Smoke Jumping

Folkwinds a unique small artisanal brand evocatively captures American landscapes through olfactory art. This unique offering evokes the smell of the Napa winemaking area which also deals with constant forest fires. The scent opens with a lovely wine note, with a distinct smoke accord. The heart is mostly oak and slight tobacco. The perfume settles into a base of real deer musk and vanilla. The masculine leaning natural scent has a whopping 55 percent absolutes concentration and has moderate sillage and good longevity. Very nostalgic and well composed scent. Unfortunately a very limited edition and sold out but worth seeking on the secondary market for those inclined. Enjoy!

I think the overall rating on this one is a tad low. Wondering if there might have been some folks who saw the price and gave it a hate score reflexively. I kinda get it if so-- these are crazy expensive. But this is good, though. Not amazing in my opinion, pretty masculine, but if you tend to be a fan of the genre that this brand gets lumped into, this'll probably be up your alley. It doesn't come across as super complicated: wine accord, smoke, wood, tobacco. But it's pleasant for what it is. On my skin, the smoke reads as charcoal smoke rather than wood, and the wine aspect kinda leans a bit cough syrupy at fist, but it does smooth out into a much more balanced wine note as it settles. I don't really have many negative notes here other than the price. At $500, this is among the most affordable offerings from the brand, and in this case, I'm not really interested in parting with that much money to smell like this. I'd be interested to sample one of the brands really prohibitively expensive scents to see if there's some sort of massive leap in quality if you're willing to shell out $1900, but in this particular case, it's a like not a love. Definitely worth sampling, though. 3.9/5

Recently got a sample of this and wow its good. This is my first sample of Folkwinds and as of now I really like them. On paper this scent is more Grape/Wine but when I tried it on skin it definitely got Smokey. As it dries down this really nice grape comes out almost like some sort of candy grape but not cheap candy grape. As well as a nice dark woody note as the smokiness fades away. Overall I really like this scent and I think its a good introduction to Folkwinds for me. I'm excited to try more of there scents if I can find samples lol.

When I reviewed smugglers notch I had request: "Jono if you see this...More of this pls! Concord grape Smugglers notch would be insane! lol" While Smoke Jumping is not in the same vein as Smugglers notch we do have that grape!!! I spoke to Jono about this one. It can be viewed as and improvement on American Pharoah with the most noteable addition being the new smoke accord that he developed. Fans of American Pharoah that are Folkwinds collectors must have this. Sit with the 2 and note the similarities.

The notes were intriguing, so I got a sample. I love the artistic risks this fragrance takes, but I can’t wear it. I get heavy cloves, wet cigar tobacco, camphor, moth balls (which I actually don’t dislike) and cough medicine. It’s got a rich darkness that is definitely strong and leans masculine, but I couldn’t wear it. Even as woman who loves masculine fragrances, I still can’t get into this one. I respect it, but I don’t want to smell it. I wonder what this house would do with a jasmine musk. I think if they took their artistry in the direction of something more carnal, it would be amazing.
