Vanille des Rois

This is a beautiful, light and airy vanilla. I’m struggling to understand the low rating. I can’t understand how anyone could find this woody or leathery either. Maybe this is down to skin chemistry .... Vanilla Des Rois is sweet but not nauseating, like fire at will which I grew to hate and decluttered. To me this is closest to the vanilla in Initio’s Absolute Aphrodisiac, which I also have. It’s softer, without any animalic note. I do get a light citrus in the opening then a beautiful, creamy, praline/vanilla in the dry down. I don’t detect any other notes at all. I would say this is probably one of the few vanillas that is light enough to be worn all year round, and easily layer-able with other scents. I get a good 6-8 hours wear on skin from this, but it lasts much longer (12hrs +) on fabrics. It is a straight forward vanilla scent, but it’s done very well and one of the best vanillas available in my opinion.

I really like this one - I can’t decide if I will want a full bottle or not yet. I had a very different experience with this fragrance than some of the other reviewers. I suspect this performs differently based on skin chemistry. First- on my skin there’s very little citrus. Even the opening had very minimal (but still detectable) citrus on my skin. Once it dried down, I could no longer detect it. Vanille des Rois smells very sweet and very vanilla forward. Like a vanilla-almond pastry with confectioner’s sugar dusted on top. The vanilla has both a syrupy quality and a powdery quality, increasingly powdery over the wear for me. I’ve tried hundreds of vanillas and collect the ones I love— and I can’t think of any that smell like this that I’ve tried. So if you’re looking for a sweet and unique, rich vanilla option this is a good one to try.

smells like old basement and vanilla in the worst possible way

This was such a flop for me. Disappointing and linear. No wonder why I haven’t seen many people praising it as much as the prev launches. I think the house itself knows what a disaster it is. It smells like so many vanilla fragrances on the market. Mirabile, Absolute Aphrodisiac, Lune Feline. On repeat 🔁 No thanks! I pass. Save your pennies and don’t blind buy this mess.

I get a lot of citrus notes and neroli, a very intense tolu balsam note, then it comes the praline and the vanilla... the drydown is dominated by woody notes, labdanum and a very green patchouli. This is not a nice and sweet vanilla. This scent has many layers and complexity. Unfortunately on my skin the green sharp notes of patchouli, labdanum are clashing with a very synthetic praline. It feels like a patchouli scent with some praline in the drydown. Not so sure this is wearable. At least not on my skin. A sample is more than enough for me.

Very balsamic at first, almost like vanilla tar. It subsides into an intense almost black vanilla that is sweet deep down. There’s a lot of dept, it’s very well blended, none of the notes clash or stand out, not even the patchouli or the floral. It’s placid but dark and it smells very intriguing.
