Fatih Sultan Mehmed

My skin really amplifies apple notes, so that's what I smelled most strongly for the first ten minutes: a crisp, sweet apple on a woody base. It kind of settled down after that, allowing a truly gorgeous ambergris to shine through. I also smelled the oud quite clearly (and was surprised to see it so low in the list of featured notes, because it's pretty obvious to me), as well as a lovely dry-yet-smooth cedar. I can't really distinguish between the individual floral notes, which seem a bit blunted to my nose, but the idea of a flower garden does make it through, just in a rather subdued way (as if you were smelling the garden as you passed under its walls, rather than being allowed to take a walk through it). An earthy, oh-so-slightly rough patchouli peeks through, bringing in a darker aspect to the experience. There's a hint of lightly-smoky vanilla there as well - not obvious, but it's that little drop of je ne sais quoi that this perfume needs. Something in it also creates the illusion of black pepper, although I'm not sure what it could be. The drydown turned out to be relatively woody, with the cedar most apparent and the amber and benzoin giving it a richly opulent feel. This, in my opinion, is a chypre of the best tradition, bringing a new twist to a relatively classic note pyramid by playing with proportions and showcasing ingredients in a decidedly modern way. It's not cutting-edge perfumery by any means, but given the inspiration behind the perfume, I think it makes sense to work within a more timeless framework, rather than bringing in experimental elements. I enjoyed every minute of it, and so far it's probably my favourite among the Fort & Manle line - not necessarily in terms of sheer artistry, but just because of how wonderful it makes me feel when I put it on.

The scent is a work of art... Surely one of the most beautifully blended fragrances out there. None of the notes are particularly pickable at any one time, but the blend is just masterful. A superb blend of fruity, floral and woody, without leaning towards any one in particular. The only real note I can orientate is the vanilla, which isn't there as such, but you get this soften to the scent as the vanilla comes in and it just rounds the scent off superbly. The sillage is the downer for me, as it just doesn't punch, and that's a crying shame as it's so nice, you just want everyone to experience it. The longevity isn't a world beater, I get around three hours, but within an hour it's very much a skin scent. Despite the sillage issue, I find myself consistently reaching for this as I just can't get enough of it. If it just packed a bit more punch, I'd have found perfection. I adore it nonetheless, though. From working my way through the discovery set, I made FB purchases of Bojnokopff, Amber Absolutely and Fatih Sultan Mehmed. They are all excellent in their own right, but this one in particular is the best scent, by a long margin. If you're going to full bottle any from this excellent house, I urge you to plump this one, despite the sillage issues.

Firstly I'd like to thank my darling husband for my surprise samples of all the delicious Fort & Manle range. What a gorgeous enabler! My interest in Fort & Manle was piqued really recently, my eye was caught by Fatih Sultan Mehmed. This fragrance is hauntingly beautiful to me, I use the word hauntingly as it just follows you, with whispers of of every note. This isn't a loud sillage monster because it doesn't need to be, but you notice it and other people do, it is a quietly, personal luxurious scent. Unfortunately (to my nose) this doesn't evoke the scent of a palace garden with its beautiful Turkish roses. This smells to me as I imagine the man Fatih Sultan Mehmed himself smelling, the scent of salty, clean skin on his cheek, the heavy silk he wears fragranced with the air and flowers from his walk in the garden, his hand still holds the scent of the sweet apple he has just eaten, hints of burning incense, attar oils and although not listed black pepper nuances. Would I like this in my collection? Absolutely. Although, I do need to sample the other six offerings from this outstanding house....but there was no way Fatih Sultan Mehmed wasn't going to leave his mark first.

I am reviewing this frag based off the sample I ordered. Its quite a beautiful scent and I really like it. Its a sweet woody ambery fragrance with some incense vibe. The combination of notes and accords rocks. To my nose, it leans just a tad point towards the feminine side but definitely unisex. Formal or semi formal get up would be best to style this frag and seem more appropriate for cooler weather. Probably caters towards 30+ age group. Projection and performance may not be the best considering its price point and that's the downside. Simply gorgeous but wanting in terms of longevity and projection. I'll give this juice an 8/10 “Let us spread the scents of peace and kindness. It is clear on first sniff why Fatih Sultan Mehmed was chosen as one of the finalists for “The Art and Olfaction Awards” in 2017. A blend that screams opulence & sophistication, infusing sweet juicy bergamot and crisp apple with immaculate iris and radiant tulips (tulipan) accord that blends in with sensual musk adding a feeling of royalty, cleanliness with a twist in the heart,introducing subtle use of oud and noticeable patchouli for some earthy woody nuances to darken up the olfactive experience a bit. Ambergris adds the final touch to this majestic fusion in the heart and base creating an airy sweet and salty contrast to the blend, somewhat aquatic floral, but simultaneously earthy and dark, this scent is the smell of life. Fatih Sultan Mehmed is a perfume of profoundly magical proportions.

As others have said, this one just does NOT project far at all -- in fact, I need to press my nose into my wrist to even get the scent -- but with all that aside, this is an amazing scent, no question. A sweet, rosey apple with an ambergris background and it does have that house DNA to it, as others have said -- a sweet, fruity resin that can be found in most of the scents. For me, it does lean a little femme -- but just a little -- and I am more than okay to wear this (I don't believe in gender in scent, anyway...) Nonetheless, this is a stunning scent that develops over the day and really REALLY comes alive a few hours in -- lovely scent, I just love it.

Whenever I smell it I get a very specific image in my head from my childhood. I grew up in Central Asia where summer is quite hot and dry and to freshen the air a little bit, people dump wicker broom in water bucket and sprinkle the ground around. This blows a little bit of dust and then come this smell - a wet dust a hot dry air. Add beautifully smelling rose and a bit of tulip on top and you get this perfume. Very unique and very pleasant. 10/10, it's a masterpiece!!! Not for summer though, it can be a bit too cloying in the most hot days.

This fragrance is something that took one or two wearings to fully appreciate. The first time I smelt it... I couldn't smell anything. The second time was unusual and the third time, now, I love it A very soft oriental, that doesn't invade your nose. At times, you can't smell much and other times it wafts gently. It's very powdery, and that ambergris is to die for. Panda said it best, middle eastern royalty!

Fort & Manle Fatih Sultan Mehmed (2016) - smoky apple roses - #raseifort starts with crunchy Green apples mixed with Roses. Candied & Powdery combining Iris, Violets and Vanilla. A rich and nuanced drydown of Ambergris, smoky resins with damp and earthy Patchouli. Radiant projection emanating from the wearer. A combination of turkish delight, rose bouquets, incense and human skin. Creative and memorable.

My goodness, I do love this one. Very fruity, floral (tulip and rose), and a bit salty because of the ambergris. The whole concoction kind of reminds me of fruity tea, I do enjoy that a lot. Sadly it is just a whisper in the wind. Longevity is 3 hours at best, with average projection turning soft quite quickly. Oh well... I will enjoy my sample for the short period of time that it will last me.

Indescribable modern beauty. Fatih Sultan Mehmed is a hard to describe, phenomenal blend that impeccably combines sensations one would usually get from things like galaxolide, rose, lightly sweet incense, iris butter, vanilla, clean florals, fruity molecules, and ambergris. It does not project much, but it still is an exquisitely comfy, light, soapy, unique, exotic, and lovely creation!

It’s the scent you want to wear after cleaning yourself from conquering a city (or a ship), the calming breeze after intense effort. Apple, vanilla and rose, masculine sweet oriental. Performance is ok. It’s last 4-6 hours, the silage is weak. its a bit disappointing on the performance price side, on that level of price I expect it to be more potent.

This fragrance is beautiful. It is unique and masterfully blended. One of the absolute best fragrances on the market today and despite being a niche scent this fragrance gets A LOT of compliments. Fruity. Spicy. A bit of Oud. A bit floral. It's special.

Lovely incense scent! My fav from this house. A bit to much vanilla in the base for me though.

Very (and I mean very) interesting. Another frontier of perfumery. All seasoned fragrance enthusiasts need to get their nose on this. My thoughts about it change practically every time I smell my hand, but I'll give this a go. When I sprayed it on, my initial reaction was repulsion. It just smelled awful. Sharp, sour, but somehow skanky green apple. But now it has settled down, it is much more palatable - I suppose its the ambergris which needs time. As mentioned, the ambergris is a main player here. Apple and the vanilla/benzoin/amber accord back it up, which perhaps a few florals in the background (specifically iris). But just listing the notes doesn't really do the smell justice. I was mulling over how to put it into words, but Peter from FragranceView hit the nail on the head, I think. He described it as somewhere between soap and incense, which sounds inconceivable, but FSM somehow achieves it. I sometimes get straight up chlorine, and sometimes regal oriental prince - I just can't pin it down. Is it a good smell? Hard to say. I think so. The performance is lacking, but if it were massive I don't think I could ever wear this, so I think that's a positive in a way. Very difficult to give an overall rating, but given its ability to intrigue me and keep me coming back I'd say: I like it a lot, potentially bottle-worthy. (dislike/indifferent/like, but not BW/like a lot, potentially BW/love, definitely BW/masterpiece)

Very very deep and complex, surely the products of several months perhaps years of refining. The opening tart green apple with a minty touch to it, fleeting but initially intensely fresh and watery fruity. The vanilla quickly swells through, fluffy and sweet. I would expect this rapid transition to be jarring and strange, but it has been blended with a musky ethereal, slightly waxy sheen (ambergris perhaps with some iris-like materials?) that seems to bridge coolness and warmth creating a wonderful total of fresh fruity, but fluffy and warm vanillic. The benzoin definitely enters the picture soon after and is there to stay. I don't get heaps of florals or woods, definitely nothing solid, but they are definitely there forming the background. The woodiness increases in the dry down, without spelling out a clear oud accord. Definitely an interesting exploration into artistic perfumery, indeed excellent as a fragrance, highly complex, a nice balance between freshness and warmth. Something I would wear on a daily basis? Probably not, although you could if you wanted without upsetting anyone. For me it is more so something I would enjoy at home alone, as it comes with a certain aloof tranquility with a focus on balance and proportion.

This perfume has been a Big dissapointment for me. I had Big expectstives with this one but not... The scent is good but is not oriental and not intense at all...for me is like most of designer perfumes or...even worse... I have almost bought It blind because of the notes and... I am glad i havent done It because for me this stuff doent worth the price! When i smelt It i thoughtm..mmm i have smelt this before! And yes... I went to my room..Sprayed dolce & gabanna the one for men EDT on the other hand and... Almost the same!! The only difference is the ambergris in fatih sultán which makes It a bit Richer, dirtier and more animalic but the rest is very very similar. If you can buy the one for a good price It is not necessary to buy this one for probably 6 or 7 times more money. And the projection is even better on the d&g one... I always try ti be honest i am not usually so hard with an opinión as i am being now but It my sample was kaputt (that i think is not possible because i have bought an official Discovery set), or this perfume is a Joke... The worst of the líne imho! Scent: 8 Longevity: 6 Sillage: 4 Quality/price: 4 Versatility: 7 Originality: 5 Global: 6.5

Fatih Sultan Mehmed is the second entry I've tried in the house that distinctly strikes me as something that should be worn in the colder weather strictly, and mainly seems suited for men, though I imagine people of all sorts could enjoy this. It's starts with a burst of citrus but quickly becomes a mix of amber, oud, iris, patchouli, cedar, and vanilla. Sweet, woody, and every so slightly dirty, this is a blend that would work for most men and many others. An agreeable wintry mix, it could satisfy fans of many genres, of various tolerance. It's difficult to think that this would be disliked. On the other hand, I'm not smitten by it really since it's not all that daring in any one area. Perhaps accentuation of one of the notes would give it an edge. Still, it's a very good performer (probably not quite as good as Amber Absolutely), yet with the standard pricing (230 AUD, 178 USD for 50ml) it's not cheap enough to hastily buy just for the heck of it, but it merits some trying for sure. I could see it fitting the bill well for many. 7 out of 10

A very nice blend of green apple, dewy jammy rose, benzoin-vanilla sweet accord, and ambergris. I also get something camphoric like a smoky-floral minty-ness. There are other florals present besides the rose. The rose mainly blends into the apple to create one unified applerose effect. It is pretty good. Sweet and a bit bright. Best for spring. I think comparisons to Layton are appropriate but they have a vast number of differences. Layton is more vanilla custard heavy and its thick camphor comes from a Vick’s eucalyptus menthol. Fatih Sultan Mehmed is more airy, floral, and full of ambergris. This one is definitely better for me. It is unisex but could be interpreted as feminine to some noses, due to a large presence of florals and sweets. 8.6/10

Got spray samples of the new F+M line at Ministry of Scent -- they give you the price of the sample and shipping off of a full bottle which I appreciate. It's a less juicy, more balanced version of the original. Great if the apple note on the original was too strong for you..it was too loud on my skin — almost a shisha vibe — so I'm enjoying this more. I think the official line from the brand is that these are mostly the same formulas but i have both the old and new discovery set and all the scents feel a bit more balanced/wearable and, in exchange, a bit less bold. Probably makes them more likeable overall. Up to y'all to decide!

3rd of 7 from the F&M discovery set. This starts off super thick and heady. It's complex, opulent, and very well blended. The opening is this kind of bittersweet mixture of apple and bergamot with light florals, which reminds me somewhat of Layton. The vanilla kicks in shortly after and makes it smell even more delicious. However, major weak points are sillage and longevity, which are way less than other scents from F&M. Not FB worthy based on that alone, but it smells amazing. This house is 3 for 3 so far with scents. Looking forward to checking out the other scents in the discovery set.

Apple and vanilla are delicious together, as anyone who has tried PdM's famous Layton knows; but where that is woody and best suited for the cold months, this is a light chypre suitable for all but the very hottest weather. The rose and the ambergris really open this up and make it smell quite invigorating, and (with the oud) add the Ottoman touch the name promises. This is surprisingly debonair (it's not the slightest bit heavy thanks to the skillful deployment of the notes), and would make a good office fragrance.

A pleasing Floriental scent which is delicate and sophisticated. The perfume opens with notes of green apple, begamont, petitgrain and vanilla and then moves to the floral heart of rose, iris and tulip. The perfume settles on a powdery benzoin, amber and synthetic musk with slight traces of cedar, oud and patchouli. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and good longevity. Like being in an exotic Arabian nights garden. Enjoy!

Apple, Vanilla supported with a strong note of petitgrain! I love the opening! And this opening, which was a green fruitiness slowly transitions into something else. The noticeable iris at the background is responsible for the change in the character of the perfume The drydown becomes something sweeter. I like this but as a collector of over 1000+ perfumes, this isn't something remarkable.

It is a beautiful, mystical scent that tastes ancient. Too bad for the sillage really poor and longevity 2-3 hours.... i recommend steaming from time to time because the projection is very weak, for the rest is a nice parfum, suitable for autumn days. Overall i like it! Sillage: 5.5./10 Longevity: 6./10 Scent: 7.5/10 Overall: 7.5/10

This is the best of Fort and Manle that I have tried in terms of smell and you get a full-on sense of purely natural ingredients. The only problem is that it lasts 2 hours on my skin and projects poorly. Even Rasei Fort's Kolonya lasts longer than this! Extremely disappointing.

Mostly apple on top with a lovely salty ambergris and floral heart supported by the woody base. It leans slightly masculine but the apple keeps it safely unisex. It’s nice on this frigid February day, but I suspect it will really come alive in warm weather. Very nice!

Apple and ambergris are intense! It’s warm and fresh simultaneously, sweet and salty. On its own it’s fantastic, but this is also a great layering fragrance as well. (Layered over Shalimar edp, the combination is incredible.)

The reviews are all over the place on this one and I see why. The sharp dirty green opening is 1 of a kind but that quickly transforms into a moderate performing floral scent with light hints of balsamic notes. The amber and benzoin are just too light for me and it leans 70/30 feminine on my skin. One would expect better performance as it's almost $4 per ml but keep expecting. This is the third from my set that I have sampled and have very low hopes for the 7 left.

Tested sample...very low performance on my skin. It became a skin scent after an hour! Does not project. The fragrance is ok, nothing special, and not bottle worthy for me especially because of the low performance.

Vanilla, caramel, roses and amber blend. It's like a powdery Turkish delight, there are apples,there are doses of roses, chunks of vanilla, amber, musk, and patchouli. As it said before, the longevity is quite bad, and the blend itself is quite MEH. I don't see anything interesting in this one... in short, it's vanilla, apples, amber, and rose, and you can neglect the rest of the notes cause you won't define them unless you have hella strong of a nose. Edit (26th June 2018) Testing it again today, i smell a sweet vanilla amber with benzoin, musk, apples, & petitgrain. An overly sweet appled amber & musk. Remains fair nothing more.

The smell is great, performance is not. It has the fort signature smell, which i really like, with an added oud that is very western and easy to like. However, at the price point there is no way to really like it. You can get the same kind of scent from montale at half the price. This is not putting this fragrance house down however, I love everything they put out. Purple hat being my fav, Maduro second, and amber absolute this. All of these have good projection and longevity. I'm getting a fb of purple hat, love that stuff

Holy petitgrain! Huge, sharp blast of it upon first spray. It goes away quickly, and softens down to a rose and other florals-based scent similar to Harem Rose from this line, but a bit sweeter. That first blast was so acrid, though. I'm testing samples from this line, and though I like the drydown on this, that initial acrid blast was a bit too much for me. The longer I sniff this, the more it smells like a combo of Amber Absolutely and Harem Rose from this line.

Starts very sweet to my nose, I do get the apple and a floral vibe. In the drydown it has a similarity to LDDM with the ambergris but overall softer and much sweeter and without the dryness. For me it lasts quite a while, 8 hours+ and I do get some projection for the first hour but soft. I find it interesting but ultimately can't see myself wearing this often. Do love the bottles though!

Like a chai tea in some ways, but dusty, fizzy/effervescent, green. Then I get a huge whiff of so much cinnamon, but not in the notes!! Like a redhot candy. Then less cinnamon, more fruity rose. Then slightly “sweaty” musk... it’s very interesting, just not something I’d enjoy every time I put it on. After reading all the reviews maybe I’ll retest... my experience seems so different

FORT AND MANLE ~ Fatih Sultan Mehmed... What a beautifully structured Chypre... From the opening to the drydown its such a great fragrance... Starts of with a dose of bergamot and a bit of apple after which the beautiful tulip and iris unravel resting in a delicious bed of vanilla and some abergris..

A very pleasant smelling fragrance that is not too woody or barbershop like. Those of you that say it has weak projection and performance are dead wrong. This projects massively. Even after taking a soapy shower you can still smell it on your skin. It's just not a loud, obnoxious fragrance.

Faith SM is slightly powdery and sweet with much better performance for me compared to Suleyman. Faith SM is the sibling of Amber Absolutely and Suleyman in the way they share Fort's signature fruity-ambery feel. This is my second favourite F&M - and the metal embossed plaque, beautiful.

Love love love this I can just imagine it being worn by a sultan, it’s woody yet sweet fruity has a crispness green in the opening and dries down for me to more rose iris and ambergris. Lasts well on my skin. A beautiful scent but not oriental, I didn’t get any oriental at all.

This whole collection is BANGIN'!! You would be hard pressed to find a dud among their offerings. My wallet is in heart attack mode. lol

A very overhyped skin scent. Terrible longevity. Zero projection. Incredibly disappointing.
