Süleyman Le Magnifique

11 - Apples! First thing I smelled before scrolling down to see the notes. Followed by a more chilled out version of cinnamon than I usually get in perfumes. There's a dirty vegetation hanging out in the background, making this sexier than the description makes things sound. This is very, very, very good, but so light on first whiff that I just doused myself in like, 5 more sample sprays. We will see if I regret this. There is a floral tobacco note that I don't see listed, so it's probably some combo or another fooling my nose. I like this! Yay! I'm thinking this is one that can lean strongly femme or masculine depending on individual chemistry. Five minutes later and I can barely smell it, but maybe that's my nose and not the perfume. Coworker says she has allergies and hasn't been able to smell anything at all for two days. Will wait until someone visits the office and will report back. The musk is randomly making an appearance in a nice, fresh laundry type way. 12 - A faint vanilla. Sort of cocoa butter vanilla, not nauseating, which I appreciate, but meh. 3 - Forgot to ask anyone if they could smell it on me, but several people I spoke to today decided to stand way closer than normal social rules dictate. That could be because I'm a cutie pie and totally charming, though. Probably not, but it could be. Respraying 3:45 - ARGH, gone again. I feel cheated. Will try again under different conditions because the open is 100% wonderful and worth it.

Suleyman is my second favourite of the whole bunch of Fort n Manle frags I have tested so far after Amber Absolutely. Made as a tribute to the Great Ottoman Emperor, This Suleyman starts his reign in a burst of fruity apple and cinnamon and it grabs your attention right away. Then notes like Ambergris, benzoin and amber show up and pay homage, accompanied by fleeting appearances of Court dancers like Rose, Green galbanum and sandalwood. All in all, a blend of notes worthy of tribute. The real Suleyman reigned for 46 years, this one unfortunately is a Pretender to the throne in that regard, again barely touching 5 hours on skin. Seems to last a bit longer on cloth but until they fix the longevity issues or come out with an extrait version, I dont see myself paying the Emperor's ransom for 50 ml of this juice despite the juice being magnificent and the Bottle glorious. If you are an Emperor yourself with money to burn, go for it. It smells great. The rest of us humble peons will wait for the price to come down or one of the great Perfume Merchant Houses to put out a great deal. :)

Suleyman Le Magnifique is another sweet, resinous entry from Fort & Manle that's excellently blended and walks the line between sophistication and comfort very effectively. Its mix of resins (benzoin, galbanum), sandalwood, cinnamon, and apple provide a warm, sweet comfort but SLM also comes off as quite refined. The apple and cinnamon are faint but just involved enough to provide an interesting spicy/sweet angle to what is on the whole a resinous/woody creation Performance is strong, as with other sweet, resolute entries (and my two favorites) like Amber Absolutely and Bojnokopff, though of course SLM offers something different, and is not quite as strong as the other two. 8 out of 10

Labyrinths of olfactive complexity, Süleyman Le Magnifique is a fusion of beauty, where every element plays a significant role yet not one single note dominantes, a very difficult scent to describe, it is somewhat of an amber, folded in a majestic woody base with just enough sweetness to add a provocative character to the overall blend with a noticeable spicy green facet that carries throughout from the very first spray on skin.

Absolutely delicious. Apple cinnamon crumble pie, add in some oriental vibes, this is like a moroccan or middle eastern delicious dessert. Getting Dev Main act vibes, but without the leathery masculine feel, this is very unisex, very gourmand. Realistic, tart apple. Christmassy even.

This is so unique and I really am enjoying my sample. Smells like a completely different fragrance on my skin than it does on paper. On paper, the greener notes come through and on skin the softness of the fragrance are dominant. Can't explain it but I'm a huge fan

Absolutely exceptional amber-rose gourmand fragrance that exudes apple and cinnamon in the opening. The perfume then dries down into a warm spicy floral middle eastern masterpiece. If this isn’t your wish list, we can’t be friends. Just brilliant.

Deep, intoxicating, melancholic and dark. Totally unisex. This perfume gives me extra confidence when I need to get things done.. I could write & write how opulent & regal this scent feels to me, but @ mlleghoul have described it perfectly!

Not spectacular. Fort & Manle fragrances are almost all interesting, and this one is no different. It shares some similarities with Fatih Sultan Mehmed, with that ambergris giving the fragrance some cleanness in the background (much less pronounced than FSM however). Suleyman is mainly red apple and cinnamon built upon sweet amber and the aforementioned ambergris. You tend to notice different aspects to the scent the more you smell it. It's sweet, fruity, spicy, clean and a bit floral all at once, and these different facets seem to vary in what is accentuated. It's certainly very complex. With that being said, I don't know whether I would wear it. While it's fun for me to sample and explore it, it is not something which I sniff and think 'that smells great'. Sure it's interesting, unique, mysterious, challenging etc. - but however complex it is, it doesn't smell good enough to make me consider shelling out for it. The performance is also very poor for the type of fragrance. It has some ambery weight to it, and some heavy spices, so should not be fading this fast. I like it, but not bottle-worthy. (dislike/indifferent/like, but not BW/like a lot, potentially BW/love, definitely BW/masterpiece)

Very nice opening. Imagine Amber Narguile amped to the extreme. An exaggerated punch of cinamon apple and a big chunk of noticable (royal oud style) galbanum backing it up. Unfortunately while that opening is lovely this doesn't keep on for that long and starts to fade much earlier than you'd want, at which point a faint clean rose starts poking through (where it starts to overlap a little with Amber Absolutely). Ater this it rapidly goes to a skin scent, which does last in that stage for a while to be fair. Very nice but I have to mark it down for its longevity. The opening is great, but you'd perhaps be better served going for Amber Narguile or PdM Oajan if you want this style in a fragrance that lasts.

At first, I notice intense cinnamon and cedar shavings. Spiced apple. Then creamy sandalwood. Wow. Fort and Manle continue to impress! Amber and resins. Bitter green galbanum. Florals that I can't put my finger on. Lots of spices, and something sweet. Reminiscent of a health food store I go to, odd as that sounds, it isn't a bad thing. It's very interesting and beautifully blended. Definitely has an Arabian perfume vibe. Too spicy for my tastes, but I would love it on the right person. 8/10.

Beautiful scent but very poor projection and silage on my skin, and considering the price tag it makes it quite disappointing. Sample first.

A seriously delicious scent that plays a little close to skin, but still really enchants. Apple features here again, but with the cinnamon it comes across differently. I like this, but I don't love it. I could wear it happily, though, but I'm not sure I'd chase it...

A beautiful but very understated modern Oriental hampered by extremely weak projection issues. The perfume begins with notes of apple, cinnamon, ambergris, and vetiver. It proceeds to a central resinous whiff of galbanum, vanilla, slight tuberose and rose, slight oud, and benzoin. Finally, it settles into its powdery base of vanilla, sandalwood, musk and amber. Although well blended, the unisex perfume has only weak sillage / projection and only moderate longevity. The juxtaposition of the sweeter floral notes with the woody notes is nice but the perfume itself is too watery to make an impact.

The first few times I tried Süleyman Le Magnifique from Fort & Manle, I couldn’t figure it out, but for whatever reason, today it feels different. This is a dispassionate cool, woody floral incense. An ornate, centuries-old chest with polished wrought iron embellishments, once brimming with rare woods, precious flowers, and sacred resins, but which has slowly emptied over the years. It is a vessel which now holds but the barest perfumed memory of its past riches, alongside the bitter, vanillic fragrance of the aged container itself, and a thin scrap of parchment, a fragment of poem; not of youthful frenzied hearts and fevered love, but a sober observation from one who has been around the block and seen some things– and has something to say about it. Perhaps in the vein of these lines from Sappho’s tablets: Death is an evil. That’s what the gods must think. Or surely they would die. Süleyman Le Magnifique is the scent of your collected wisdom and experiences– and having lost some parts of yourself in the process of gathering. Some of those pieces you lost were hope. But many of them were fear. And if you want to give the gods a piece of your mind, this is the perfume to reach for before fearlessly airing your grievances.

Galibanum, ambergris, cinnamon, and amber. It's musky, with elemi, vetiver, underneath the ambergris, cinnamon, amber, and patchouli. The apples are there but OH GOD it's just too much & it lacks quality specially that it accompanies a candy sweet cinnamon vanilla mix. This blend tries so hard to be strong but it just can't, i sense some creativity in here yes, but the quality is hideously horrifying in away that the cinnamon smells like dust, the amber is extremely faked up, and over all the blend smells like a dusty sweet weather. It's just not really good as the hype around it. Edit (30th Jan 2019) I'm back to it again, now this smells like sweet henna! the ambergris and apples are creating this effect! it's kind of cute to be hones and i was wrong in my previous comment! i believe i gave it a bad review & it doesn't deserve that! as a matter of fact it's cute, dark, and sweet. I believe the top notes are the apples, the ambergris then comes the cinnamon. It has amber yes with some slightly sweetness that comes from the sweet Turkish roses and bits of galbanum. This one is cute, and i believe i should ive the whole sample another chance!

I am really surprised with this perfume...and in a good way! Honestly i thought that i wouldnt like this perfume very much... I thought this would be the typical oriental with a fruitytchouli vibe... However i have found a very special perfume. The only issue i find is the longevity as in most perfumes of the brand...It last only 4-5 hours on my skin with a very soft sillage... And this is something that i cant understand because It is a very rich and intense fragance at the opening, very oily and with a very good quality ingredients but... It fades away too Soon... :( The perfume is centered in an apple & cinnamon combinatión (but not the typical home spray scent)... The background is resinous and very ambery with a soft touch of flowers... I think It is a very versatile oriental perfume, similar to rodoass by bebolar but a bit weaker and weareable most of times (but maybe avoiding summer days). Totally unisex and very pleasant! Scent: 9 Longevity: 7 Sillage: 6 Q/p: 5 Versatility: 8 Originality: 8 Global: 8.5

For me the galbanum is the star of this perfume. It smells so amazing... I would have to say Suleyman nods towards Amber Absolutely for me but a bit different. I would echo that performance is less than ideal for the extra price tag. In fact, I might even go so far as to say performance-wise, Suleyman could be one of the weakest of the collection. However - It probably wouldn't stop me buying a bottle because the plaque on the bottle is my favourite of the whole collection and the scent overall is my third favourite. Rasei Fort prefers to create beautiful compositions rather than compromise just to gain extra sillage and projection. I know it's the biggest challenge in perfumery to create strong, long lasting perfumes without throwing in a bunch of strong aroma molecules. Awesome review @henri345que! Agree. If only this had just a bit more nudge.

Rasei Fort is a superbly talented perfumer, creating one of the most quixotic fragrances I've smelled. Notes join seamlessly in this light spicy elixir. It's hard to pick out individual essences, but there are surges when cinnamon, apple, rose, amber and tuberose are recognizable. A lovely surprise swell that makes you go 'aaaaah' in delight. Especially during the opening. It dries down to a delicate ambery-appley-cedar sachet. The apple note in particular was one of my favorites. It's festive and gives the perfume a freshness and sparkle. Sillage moderate, although stronger than a skin scent. Longevity good. Lasted several hours with complexity, still smelled faint traces of it the next morning.

Notes: Galbanum, Cinnamon, Amber, Musk, Oud, Benzoin, Patchouli, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Rose, Vanilla, Red Apple A gorgeous, smooth, classy and Hypnotic fragrance. Starts on a fruity side with Apple note being prominent followed by Cinnamon, which fades away pretty quickly. As the fragrance develops Ambergris, Benzoin and Amber are noticeable and give this fragrance a warm and comfy feeling. As the fragrance drys down the woody aspect of the fragrance comes alie bring forth vetiver, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Oud. Even with all these heavy accords this fragrance give moderate sillage and projection. This one is blended to perfection by Rasei Fort.

Immediately this reminds me Khan al Kalhili market in Cairo. Spices and ambergris are doing the hokey-kokey around burning incense, a punch of amber and cinnamon stand by applauding their performance while musk and vanilla are watching from behind an antique sandalwood screen. Everything about this is oriental, ancient but timeless. Quite a masculine mix of ingredients, unique, unmistakably expensive, and very, very wearable. As my other half says, "Big bottle worthy?". Hell yes!

Beautiful scent from one of my favourite houses. It has that slightly smoky DNA found in many of Fort & Manley’s scents. I find it quite unique and very well blended. Its difficult to pick out single notes, at least from my little dabber sample. Unfortunately its very weak in performance. I like subtle scents, but this could benefit by «turning up the volume» a bit. The scent itself is lovely.

I guess you have to be real artsy or something to get this fragrance. I'm trying on the sample now ( from Luckyscent ) and people smelling Apples? This straight up smells like an old woman's perfume that has been sitting in her bedroom for a 100 years. This is such a hard pass for me, I don't even know how a man could wear this honestly.

A masculine fragrance with a dry, dusty woody scent, led by red apple, amber, and vetiver, with a smoky note resembling the scent of shisha because of the apples.
