V For Vetiver

I was pleasantly surprised. And having tried thousands of fragrances and owning more than 500 not many can evoke that response for me. Though my one complaint is that i wish it lasted longer. It quickly turns skin and then disappears. Still, i love this so much. A very welcome surprise. I like vetiver a lot and this has a remarkable spin to a very traditional note. For me it's nostalgic. It reminds me of working women in the 70s and 80s. Cigarettes, perfume, incense to an extent. What is missing is the Turkish coffee. I adore this so much! I am so going to get a bottle of this just to pour into a pillow and hug. It reminds me of all the powerful women I grew up around. Thank you fort & Manle for this beautiful fragrance.

V for Vetiver is very masculine. I can smell carnation and grape mix and I’m not a fan. Not a safe blind buy as i do not find this to be mass appealing in any way. My husband did not like it for himself as well, but I’m sure some men will appreciate this profile.

I just receive a sample of V for Vetiver from LuckyScents. As I am generally drawn to many vetiver based colognes, I was looking forward to trying this. Frankly, I found it immensely disappointing largely because I do not identify vetiver as a primary scent and it is far too sweet a fragrance for my taste. As rbalkris (below) said, on first application, I found it to be "overstuffed" to the point of confusion. Likewise, it struck me as sickly sweet, not something I associate with vetiver. It was too spicey, too sugary, candy-like. After several hours, I found much of the complexity (or confusion) gone, but what lingered was a marshmellowy sweetness. The only reason I purchased a sample was because of vetiver in the name. If I had been able to try it in a commercial setting on a test strip, I would not have bothered further with it. I label this a disappointment. By the way, Aussie Fragrance (below) says that he has been searching for the ultimate vetiver; I wonder if Guerlain or Carven were among his first tries. I seem to always return to them after a blind alley like this one.

Inspired supposedly by the ancient Vardhana dynasty of India, this woody gourmand offering centered around a nice earthy note is sadly an overstuffed mess that could repel many. The scent opens with a flurry of spices (cloves, cinnamon, cumin) leading to a stuffy floral gourmand heart comprised of cherry, cacao, grape , rose and carnation. The perfume settles on an earthy woody base of the vetiver surrounded by cedar, birch, vanilla, incense and synthetic musk. The selection of notes do not really concur with the inspiration behind the perfume (they seem largely western). Quite frankly the perfume feels like some of the perfumers older work has been clobbered together with some vetiver. The masculine leaning scent has moderate projection and longevity. Like eating an Indian dish at an American restaurant. A bit uncomfortable.

Oh dang... I've been on the hunt for the ultimate Vetiver fragrance for a while. Have found a few bangers.. But from experience with other F&M fragrances, this could be the Holy Grail.... I need to hunt down a sample!
