Beau de Provence

Beau de provance is a fantastic new unisex fragrance by Fragonard released in 2020. The opening is excellent with fruity fig note and a fresh zesty, almost bitter grapefruit. I can't really smell the Bergamot.The Ylang-ylang comes through shortly after with a subtle mintiness.It reminds me almost immediately of Penhaligon's Lothair. The dry down is creamy with this luxurious well balanced mix of base notes: sandlewood, Atlas cedar & Java vetiver. I think most may find it suited to evening time rather than daytime but personally I love having this warm comforting scent wrapped around me all day long.The projection is above average and longevity also.

It’s beautiful. I’ve been looking for a fig smell, because I grew up with fig trees in the Mediterranean and it’s comforting, but I hadn’t been able to find one that didn’t cause me a headache. This is the one. The bright grapefruit mixes with a creamy fig scent, including the leaves and milk I love so much. The sandalwood base shines through as well, grounding it in wood. It lasts enough, and at its price range, you can spray with peace of mind.

Fig and soap. Fresh, aromatisch, a little sharp, lovely summer scent. Leans masculine, but if you are a girl who is not afraid of her after shave side, give it a try. 😉

The woodiest fig I encountered so far. Even more aromatic that usual with mint and basil's help, but they are in support role. I like it very much, it has rich, multi layered structure with gorgeous woody base. The comparaison with Black Orchid stands, it has similar feeling of rich earthiness, but is nowhere near as extravagant or potent. It could be summer option for Black Orchid fans, or just something simpler to alternate a bit. Figs are tricky, even for the fig lovers and I count myself among them. But even I can't stand most of them. I enjoy them at the beginning, but after few hours they start to incommodate me. If I don't wash them off, the most persistent ones revolt me. The only ones I can stand in the long term are Philosykos and Premier Figuier. Both created by Olivia Giacobetti early on and very naturalistic interpretations. There are also Ninfeo Mio, Dune pour homme and Un Jardin En Méditerranée, but they are not all about fig. This one is surprising because I'm still wearing and enjoying it. The nose behind it is Karine Dubreuil and it's more robust and masculine in nature. Longevity is respectable and quality, outstanding, as usual.

First impression: fig infused with green tea, mint like from toothpaste, probably rose and violets. Not fresh enough to refer this perfume to fresh compositions and not too sweet to make it noticeable. I’d say that it reminds me of that cheap 3$ perfumery for a 800ml bottle that I use to disinfect surfaces on my house. After a while medicinal herbal notes appear and perfume finally gain its character. Close to base notes I would even describe it as fresh aromatic oriental composition that can easy be worn by a man. Drastic transformation! And by the end fig as main note still can be heard in a trail.

I usually go for unashamedly feminine perfumes, so I am surprised how much I like this one. The fig is creamy and not too overpowering, and there is a lovely powdery softness that doesn't feel masculine to me. I think this is a lovely fragrance for spring and cooler summer days, and will happily wear it when I want a change from my usually sweeter fragrances. And the bottle is lovely! If you have been put off by comments saying it leans too masculine, then just give it a try - it maybe depends very much on your own chemistry.

It's my first time trying a fig scent, and it seems like a note I somewhat enjoy. This is also one of the first time sandalwood going a little like celery on me worked for the scent, rather than against it. It allowed the scent to come across rather fresh. I also think patchouli goes nicely with this sort of profile. I'm not in a big rush to buy it but I probably will at some point. An easy 7/10.

This is fig, basil, sandalwood and vetiver for warm weather! I can see the comparison with Gris Charnel, and I am a huge fan of Liam Gray, which is a dupe. This one would be the warm weather, less creamy and more aromatic cousin version. Pretty unisex, great value and flexible perfume. It has a punch on the first hour, but then dries down close to the skin. I'd say it's office-friendly.

For me it is a bright creamy fig. Natural smelling. Lasts long enough. Pleasant to wear. Very happy with this one. I like fragonard smells. This one seems to have a bit more performance then the others i have from this house.

This is an almost mineralic scent that leans masculine to me. It is like a man mermaid scent. Lovely

Solid fig cologne in vein of Philosykos

Not sure why this is marketed to women, the composition feels like it pulls far more masculine to my nose, traditional woods and herbs and Vetiver made it smell like a traditional fougère fragrance just with a fig top note. Nice enough casual daytime scent sits close to the skin and seems pretty mature and classy. Doesn’t smell like Philosykos from Diptyque at all to me (lacks the greenery). If anything the opening has a similar feel to the noir from le labo and the dry down is a dead ringer for lothair from penhaligons. Definitely feels more expensive and luxurious than the price suggests. Not for me but would definitely suggest this to someone else a decent dupe.

Tested from a wet towel sample. Opening is sweet and a little figgy. Once dry, it’s like a more generic and light interpretation of Gris Charnel. On my skin it’s quite unisex. Dried on the towel I smell a fresh-ish masculine scent like Irish soap (or some type of men’s soap) on the dry down on the towel, kind of screechy and sour. It’s nice but nothing special. Nothing like Bleu Turquoise nor Black Orchid (referring to reviews below).

It totally see the comparisons to black orchid! I tested this on my arms and it really reminded me of something that I'd never wear in summer but I couldn't remember what it was (it was actually driving me mad!) and then I read the reviews and bam! Yes indeed, a very similar profile to Black Orchid but a summer version. Like if Black Orchid came in an eau de cologne. Safely unisex.

A creamy powdery patchouli for men. It’s clean and sweet. Floral - airy and heavy at the same time. Could be used in any situation, work, formal, day, night. It’s okay, allround. Last eternally. If you like sweet patchouli give it a go.

I wore this on one wrist and Black Orchid on the other. Unlike Black Orchid, Beau de Provence doesn't have any creamy white florals, and is probably more easily worn in hot weather. Otherwise the two are similar. There isn't anything green or sharp, so I don't really compare it with Philosykos; however, the fig note here does remind me of the same in Un Jardin en Mediterranee. Not the rest of the perfume, just the fig component. I prefer green/aromatic/woody fig scents and thought I couldn't possibly go wrong with this, but it's too masculine for me, although I usually wear unisex perfumes. There is a medicinal element that also reminds me on Encre Noire, although aside from style, there aren't many similarities since Beau de Provence is quite sweet (at least on me) and a bit spicy. I even found it slightly formal. I gave it to my boyfriend since he was born during fig season in a country with plenty of fig trees, garrigue, sea, etc. Lasting power is alright, a few hours. Packaging is great, and I ought to mention that the patchouli note is absolutely stunning.

I started my Fragonard fig/maquis journey with Garrigue of Fragonard years ago. I’m from Turkey and it reminded me of the Aegean coast. Then it disappeared, I was devastated. Then I took a chance on Fleur de Figuier and realized that was Garrigue under a different name (I think). Now that’s disappeared, too. I started looking for a Mediterranean reference among Fragonard perfumes and found this. Yes, this may be another rename. Is that it? Does anyone remember the two other fragrances above?

If you like figs, you'll love this, they certainly dominate this fragrance. It is very, very well blended, it smells like it's full of quality ingredients. The figs are creamy and not overly sweet, present also are sandalwood and patchouli, but it's definitely the fig note that dominates. Performance is actually pretty decent. Quality fragrance.

Today I’m testing this fragrance, it’s fresh and light, with fig and grapefruit, herbs, and a hint of wood. An everyday fragrance, perfect for spring and summer.
