Ile d'Amour

Gosh, this is one beauitful perfume. My sister was in France a couple of weeks ago and she and her friends toured the Fragonard warehouse. She bought Ile d'amour for herself and Belle de Nuit for my mom. When I smelled Ile d'amour on my sister I fell in love, it's a beautiful blend of floral and fruity, yet also aquatic.... it almost has a citrusy quality to it, it is the perfect blend. I was so in love with this that I googled it and to my pleasant surprise it can be bought on the Fragonard website in EDP and EDT. My sister has the EDP and while the sillage is soft, you get wafts of it walking near her. I just may have to purchase it. It is expensive, but after smelling this I cannot be content with anything else. EDIT: I now own this, it came in the mail today. When I sprayed it I just couldn't believe how sort of pure and non-synthetic this smells. It reminds me of something and I just can't put my finger on it, but it's something from home. I am from Argentina, and maybe this smells like a perfume my grandmother used to wear, or maybe it smells of the flowers there, or maybe of the sea... I am not sure that it is sexy or daring or cute, but I know it's beautiful. My first impression is that like Issey Miyake’s perfume it has a distinct oceanwater air, but unlike the Issey, Ile d’Amour is less melon poolwater and more vintage chypre-like. There’s some inherent soapiness to its floral-oceanic mixing but its unmistakeably... salt-like. (Good!) I enjoy Fragonard Amour’s semi-savoury osmanthus, jasmine, rosewater. Lilacs, I recall, imply powderiness which to me isn’t how I’d describe this parfum. There’s something Amouage-femme-lite included thanks to its chypre aura, I will assume this comes from its salty-haylike-soapishness. Reminds me of my Myths (female) but that would give the Amour a decadent upper class demeanour it does not have— the richness of Fragonard Amour is less socialite, less decadent and more reserved, more Francophile (the smell is classic-era French perfume house... basically A Fragonard But Especially This Fragonard.) My favourite of this house, along with Rose Lavande (different experience and also recommended, especially for its fine-tuned richness with good price.) So lastly, why did I buy this first if Rose Lavande is technically one of Fragonard’s masterpieces? Preference! Amour is satisfyingly artful, and expresses the tastes of an established fragrance creator. Especially for the price. Recommended.

Île d'amour is a nostalgic rendition of love and romance, an idealistic and innocent love, as opposed to a passionate carnal one. It's like an olfactory memory of childhood and early adolescence, reminiscent of spring and high hopes. Lilac is the biggest note on me, with lily of the valley and a very tart rose in the heart. The watery notes are not so obvious and make the sweet floral bouquet more airy and translucent. What I picture is a wind-swept abundant garden in the spring sun, with the sea nearby but still cold for a dip. I get the Miyake comparison and I think it is similar to Clinique Happy, but Fragonard's notes seem less santitised, and are generous, floral and classic in a very harmonious way. I also tried it side by side with Chloe EdP and the wet rose note immediately stood out to my nose. Île d'amour EDT was an unexpected and appreciated gift and this is my first experience with this house. Update: I have been wearing this every day. A very complimented perfume. It grows on me every time I wear it. It radiates softly and lasts long.

Some years ago my interest to Ile d'Amour led me to Fragrantica for the first time. My mother brought many perfumes from Fragonard museum in Grasse and gifted this one to me. Ile d'Amour is a glorious day scent, so romantic and so French. It is really all about love. The tender florals with a touch of sea water create the picture of a small private garden at the seaside. Maybe the town of Grasse itself has inspired the master who composed this masterpiece (I regret so much that I don't know the name of the perfumer). Indeed, if most famous perfumes are more likely to bring associations with big cities like Milan, New York, of course Paris, Ile d'Amour tells you of a beautiful province that is far from the "big life", from social events and fashion but it has its own story full of timeless charm. That is the feeling that makes Ile d'Amour so special for me. I live from one big city to another, but my soul will always be coming back here to my dear little garden at the sea... I have loved Fragonard as a house ever since I got a chance to visit the factory in Nice as a teenager. Ile D'Amour is a dreamy fresh summer scent that just feels bright, youthful and happy. This is a lifer fragrance for me, it just isn't summer without this scent to me. If it veers a bit too juvenile for some, I suggest layering it with Jo Malone's Wood Sage and Sea Salt which helps cut through some of the florals and sweetness and give it a bit more a woody-grown up edge without losing the uplifting quality of Ile D'Amour.

This scent is stunning. Ethereal. Fresh. The notes blend perfectly. Has a light sweetness to it but isn't sugary sweet. It's just.... beautiful. Elegant. Light, yet noticeable. It's fitting any time you just want to feel good, smell good, or lift your spirits. Perfect for a night out, for a company dinner, a special date night, a walk through the park.

On me Ile D'amour is a gorgeous but not overpowering mix of florals, heavy on the romance and the island being only metaphorical as I don't get any salty/sea salt notes at all! It is a lovely day perfume with a decent lasting power. I have the perfume version. A very wearable scent for a long weekend.

Takes me on a journey, to the sea, it's a hot summers day, a light breeze and a waft of freshness. Reminds me a little of Rain, splash by Marc Jacobs. Discovered today, that I can get it in the UK from Marks and Spence, online, EDT same price as Nice airport.

When I first noticed this perfume...I fell in love with It .... Its like Paris in a bottle... Like a beautiful fairytale .... It has so much class...event If It is not modern or sexy...but simply beautiful... Like a pot full of gold :)

On me this is fresh, crisp, elegant, somehow powdery, and very inoffensive fragrance. I love using this on warmer days. Definitely a modern classic smell.

smells like all the things I love: watermelon, sea, flowers! It is a soft but long-lasting smell. I've had it for a month now and I am totally in love.

I like it for it's lovely freshness .I get the Lily of the Valley above other notes . It's light but beautiful.

Starts out very hairspray, reminds me of a theatre dressing room but colder, fresher, springier. Gets a little floral as it dries, and warmer. As it goes it develops a very gentle spice note and something rice-like, while remaining a very fresh white floral. I am very impressed with Fragonard’s ability to repeatedly bring scents that would otherwise be rather cloying into a fresh, wet, dewy territory that renders them quite delightful. Towards the end of the dry down, when it’s but a skin scent, it is very fresh-shower soapy. Smells clean and cozy and posh but demure. If I reapply, just on first application I get a whiff of the cleaning supplies aisle at Dollar General. Those who have lived in the American southeast will know what I mean. It’s a different smell than a similar aisle in the grocery store - more dusty and lonely smelling. But this only lasts momentarily, and only if I apply a second layer over a first application that has fully dried down. 7/10

Definitely smells like Issey Miyaki's L'eau d'Issey but lighter, less intense on thefirst spray, dry down has better similarity. Floral (lilac, rose and lily of valley) and salty sea water (marine) notes are very easily picked out. It's beautiful on it own and easier on the budget thay Miyaki's.

This perfume will always remind my of my French class because my teacher always wore this, and it filled the classroom with a part of France. Maybe one day I'll experience France in person, but for now I'll survive with this beautiful fragrance. :)

I recently had ile d'amour and its the Parfum version i guess. It has a very inoffensive but strong and fresh scent thats safe to wear anywhere. It is more of a spring/summer day scent. I can pick out every note and i just love this one

Fragonard's riff on Arden Sunflowers. I find it a little irritating in the same way that Sunflowers can be too sharp. I like it, but this one has to be applied sparingly (at least for me) and I have to be in the mood for it.

It is the only marine that fits my chemistry. Marines turn scratchy and loud most of the time. This one is well balanced and in great harmony. Better than issey miyake’s i believe.

Agree with a lot of reviewers , my first thoughts were L’eau D’Issey by Issey Miyaki. Always loved it on my sister in law and my daughter loves it.

This perfume reminds me of visiting the South of France for a holiday. It seems to be quite strong on me so I can't wear a lot, but I do like it.
