Rose Ambre

I bought this on a recent trip to Paris at the Fragonard store in Montmartre, where I must say the service was excellent. Although, with a name like Rose Ambre, it might automatically be thought to be a very sweet and feminine fragrance. The opposite is true, with the rose being slightly green as opposed to cloying. The blend as it dries down with Tonka and Patchouli with the amber is absolutely beautifully done resulting in a warm skin scent with surprising projection. I am happy to describe this as Unisex as it works very well on male skin and I am happy to wear this for pretty much any occasion. At this price for an EdP, it is an absolute steal. Highly recommended.

In a word: Shalimar. But with something unique in the blend, a bit peppery, a bit syrupy. Lovely. Warm, sweetish, spicy. Nothing particularly new, perhaps, but well crafted, as usual with Fragonard.

An excellent perfume, very natural, long-lasting, sweet and warm. Tonka bean and bergamot, my favourites, are among the most noticeable notes. The always irresistible lovely French-Riviera-style!

The first impression to me was this is a twin sister of Mauboussin, because of the patchouli and somehow the initial spray on me has all the other notes too, then as it starts to dry down it becomes a lovely rich amber, also somewhat unisex. The rose is undetectable or else if it's there it is very well hidden. It's most definitely NOT like Rochas Tocade, not the slightest. But it's rich and interesting - at one point I even get a hint of tobacco or something slightly woody but it fades then. I live this entire line of Fragonard.

It's a more complex fragrance than the name would suggest - there is no overwhelming rose, or amber for that matter. Instead, it's an intimate oriental perfume that is wearable during the day, Not in your face "you're at a spice bazaar!" oriental, but a soft, velvety, gentle one. Trying it on a rainy autumn day feels like putting on a light cashmere shawl. A gentle and luxurious scent that comes of maybe a little touch too sweet for my taste

pleasant frag! despite the name this one does not have a dominant rose, so quite safe for those who are not the fan of its velvety petals. well blended cosy and powdery vanilla, not projecting massively or lasting for a long time but it smells natural

Interestingly, this starts out herbal and medicine-y which was a complete surprise. Black currant and bergamot are not particularly detectable. I feel the medicine aspect is presenting in the form of almonds (more artificial like the smell/taste of marzipan made with almond extract) combined with the patchouli. Amber and tonka lurking in the background gradually coming forward. Can’t smell rose as a note, but there is a floral aspect in the mix somewhere. Overall pleasant and long lasting but not my cup of tea, considering I’ve always hated sweets made with almond extract (but still love real almonds).

Ambery, vanilla and a bit mysterious rose.First sniffs, truly promising let us expect something Shalimar-like.And there are some similarities between those two. Shalimar is a bit animalic, dry and leathery perfume.Rose Ambre is much sweeter with tonka in front. Next given a handful of almonds edged with spicy notes.Develops rather slowly from rose to the liquid amber in her heart to woodsy base.Slight fruity accents are present too. The drydown is about vanilla and sandalwood. If Shalimar is a statement, Rose Ambre is a whisper. Fragile, silent, telling a story of liaisons (not even dangerous;)between flowers and woods as well as their beautiful consequences.Close to your skin, ideal for midsummer nights and really blooms in a hot weather. Definitely kind of east culture beautifully translated into a scent.Not especially longlasting (4-5 hours ) maybe it`s a matter of applying or skin PH .Frankly I`d rather not expect such a high level of Fragonard scent taking into account the price and other parameters. Really worth trying !

I first tried this perfume on a cold and humid afternoon. On my skin, I find a lot of similarities with Hypnotic Poison edt, because of the combination of rose, almond, amber and tonka notes. The dry-down is a creamy/powdery combination of amber and vanilla. I found the longevity to be good, about 5 hour presence on skin, a bit more on clothes. It stays close to the skin but projects enough to enjoy it around you. It is a very wearable perfume. After a nearly finished bottle I have to point out that this perfume works best in humidity as, for some reason, it unveils its notes much better. It's also very good for indoor professional situations.

I went looking for the damp-leaves note in the pyramid, but couldn't find it! This unusual note asserted itself in the second hour. I can only assume it's the almond not working with the other notes (and perhaps my skin is the reason). Unexpected, because I love the almond in Hypnotic Poison, and it interacts in HP with many notes that are in common with this fragrance. Fortunately, this only happened during the second hour. I'm writing this 10 hours after applying the tester. There is a lovely skin scent of tonka beans and a bit of amber still around after all that time. The first hour is what the fragrance says it is - Rose and Amber!
