Secret Tryst Extrait de Parfum

Update after ~1month with Outlands and longer with ST. Reminiscent, not redundant. You can, if looking for it, find the similarity in construction - BY A LOT, Secret Tryst is the more wearable and elegant but, honestly, Outlands in the air is not as aggressive - the latter calls for commitment while Secret Tryst would even go well in any evening occasion. I have both and will keep both. I will wear them separately/to their specific occasions and, even in a small collection like mine, they are not necessarily redundant. In scent, Secret Tryst is a comfortable slightly spicy soft rose "darker" fragrance. There is a slight bit of maturity required to appreciate the scent, not super recommendable blind buy, but fragrances in the ball park of Noir Extreme and Jubilation 25 could lead you to enjoy ST (both probably more challenging, but the brands are likely paths to FDB is what I mean). It's very comfortable, wears great for 7h or so and will linger on skin for a few more hours, but the magic is achieving that with a moderate-soft projection. Very beautiful and even airy for a night appropriate frag. @aborsa so far, doing a service to many. Once Outlands began settling down post-opening, I immediately went to my closet to spray Secret Tryst on. There is a resemblance as it dries down but again, density and performance on the FDB are much more respectful/elegant than in the Amouage - which, in the 5h I've been testing them side by side has NOT STOPPED PROJECTING. More to come on this.

When I smelled Secret Tryst I was like, "Whoah, I was not expecting it to smell like this," but I loved it. A warm, vanillic, smoky, spicy fragrance. The vanilla in here is unique (or maybe the other notes make this vanilla unique) as it is not a standard vanilla or cupcake vanilla, but something that is darker but not dirty or animalic... it's almost like a masculine type of vanilla. There is a smokiness in here, I believe from the frankincense. My nose detects something that smells like ginger, but there is not an actual ginger note in this fragrance. My only gripe is that this fragrance doesn't last long, so for it to be categorized as an extrait de parfum, I would have expected more. It has moderate projection but goes to a skin scent in about four hours. I still love this fragrance though, and when I smell it, I feel like it gives me a boost of oxytocin. It is often my go to fragrance when I go out. It is unisex leaning masculine, and I like the idea of sharing fragrances with a significant other as this is how Cavort and Secret Tryst were marketed. I rate this 8.5/10 due to the performance issue, but otherwise it is a unique fragrance I love having in my collection.

I am going to section this review out into a few different examples of how I see this fragrance to offer a multi-faceted perspective on such a beautiful and classy perfume. Example 1 - What it smells like to me: - TOP: Blast of olibanum, a little tangy bergamot, and a heavy dose of sweet saffron with a leathery facet that becomes apparent about 30 seconds into this fragrance's life. - MIDDLE: I get a slight woody scent, with rose and jasmine making an appearance. The rose here is quite jammy, combining with the jasmine to make a really enjoyable sweet/floral middle. - BASE: In the base I get a resinous facet that's paired very nicely with a touch of vanilla and patchouli. The labdanum is present throughout the end of the middle and the base. There is an animalic touch that adds complexity as well. Example 2 - A song that embodies what this smells like: - Hurt You by The Weeknd Example 3 - A real life description of the scent: - Imagine having sex in an incredibly lavish room in a middle-eastern castle. @Bestamigo - You are delusional. Iommi was revealed around the 25th of November 2021, Secret Tryst was around the 9th of December 2021. So FDB took Iommi, and had the scent, the name, the bottling and the rest of it ready in 2 weeks? You can keep that commentary to yourself. Subsequently to posting this, I actually got a bottle. So I edit this in mid-July 2023. Secret Tryst is a fruity, soft-warm spicy fragrance. It is line with product like Amouage's "Jubilation XXV", as there is sweetness and some mild powderiness in the scent profile. I'd say unisex, but if it leaned in a direction, it would be masculine. Sillage may seem strong for 30 minutes but that's it - mostly intimate-to-moderate; it is mostly a skin scent after the 1st hour and the longevity on this is around 6 hours, since after hour 4 it's already pretty faint. Value... yeah, it's bad. Most of these FDBs just don't perform at all - either they last little or project little, and that does not align with the price they are charging. But I do like the scent a lot (rating 9/10). I ended up buying a bottle with a 15% code I got from the brand, so €285 for 100ml.

Opening with sharp olibanum, warm cardamom and sweet saffron, Secret Tryst takes you on a romantic and complex journey from start to finish. These notes comprise the majority of the scent profile, creating a spicy and alluring experience. It starts off sharp and tangy, but quickly dries down to an incredibly smooth and well-blended scent. This is a fragrance that is perfectly unisex. It combines masculine notes of earthy vetiver and patchouli, with gentle touches of sensual femininity with rose and jasmine. Saffron, labdanum and vanilla bridge the gap to unite these notes, leaving you with something beautifully romantic and unique. A tryst is a private meeting between two lovers, secretive and scandalous which is conveyed perfectly in this fragrance. Secret Tryst is the epitome of high class and romantic sensuality, exquisitely crafted and perfect for date nights between couples, or to attract those around you. A must have fragrance in my opinion.

Gorgeous, perfectly-proportioned amber. The saffron, rose and cardamom provide a tasteful Middle Eastern tilt. Dried fruit sweetness and deep, beautiful resins give a classic Serge Lutens feel. It even omits the powderiness that mars some other great ambers. “BuT iS It wOrtH tHe Pr-“ hey man, listen. Do I show up at your family birthdays just to remind you we’re all gonna die someday? Do I come to your work, expound on the problems of capitalism and demand you justify yourself? Sure, there’s a flaw in the system. We can name lots of ambers just as fine and less than half the price. Like Cypher, aware that he’s inside the Matrix but still savoring his steak, I’m just gonna enjoy it while it lasts.

A beautiful warm, spicy, smoky, woody fragrance, with touches of vanilla and amber. I think this would be perfect to wear when you want a hint of an amber powerhouse, but don't want to be projecting to the point of annoyance of others. I think @emerson10 phrased it well in that it's like you just made love to someone wearing a strong warm amber fragrance, and how it is a "whisper" of amber. That is pretty dead on. This one lasts fine, just doesn't project much. But the scent itself...pure delight. Scent: 4/5 Longevity: 3/5 Sillage: 1.5/5

Sweet Jesus this is good. Spicy, slightly sweet, slightly woody on skin. When I sprayed this on paper there was a slightly swampy note (lol) but swampy in a good way - I’m guessing that was the vetiver. There’s something sexy and addicting about the fragrance like I can’t stop sniffing my skin. I definitely think this is a true unisex fragrance. Depending on how much you spray, it could work for day or night and any season except maybe summer. In hot weather, I’d probably suggest using this as a nighttime only scent. Yummy.

Fragrance Du Bois have the worst performance ever, worse than Creed, that being said, their fragrances make me as happy as Creed do, and therefore I love them. Their price point is extremely painful, but they can usually be nabbed at lower prices and that takes the sting out of it. This fragrance is not any different and is gorgeous fragrance but a skin scent at best but it lasts and lasts and is gorgeous.

I received a sample of this when I purchased Minuit et Demi and let me tell you....i instantly fell in loveeeee. The patchouli, cardamom and rose truly make this a very very seductive fragrance and pairs excellently with coffee and caramel based fragrances. I just upgraded my sample to a full bottle because there was no way I couldn’t add this gem to the collection

I get the comments about outlands. But this is much more wearable. Heavily under the radar atm and i like that about this. Almost barnyardy all the way through, but in the best way. Citrus, saffron, frankincense and vanilla fragrance for me. I don’t get any rose in this but still. 9/10

Secret Tryst is excellent especially if your like me a lover of notes like cardamon, patchouli and amber. I’ve never smelled anything quite like this though. Heady, sensual opulent date night fragrance. 4.75/5 One of the most unique in the best way frags I’ve had a chance to try.

Saffron-forward floriental; a lovely tango between masculine earthiness and feminine florals. Leans warm, slightly woody, very spicy, the vanilla rounds everything out nicely. Autumn/winter only, no other feasible season to wear this. Lasts, but no more than arms' length.

I love this! For some reason it reminds me of Ani by Nishane. It is perfect for date night or any evening out.

I’ve tried many perfumes in my journey but I still can’t pinpoint what exactly olibanum is. If I hadn’t looked at this note list I’d never be able to guess that was in here. I do get a spicy woody scent that kind of gives me Christmas feels. There’s something warming in here like a fuzzy blanket and a hot spicy apple cider or chai tea and snickerdoodle cookies, though it’s not as gourmand as I’m making it out to be. I honestly would’ve guessed sandalwood but I’m guessing it’s a mix between the patchouli and cedar. The patchouli almost gives this a minty feel which is where I’m also getting Christmas associations from. I get the same smell from Tom Ford Black Orchid but they’re not dupes, I’m just saying the patchouli used is similar. It’s the earthy green mint chococolate chip kind of patchouli, nothing skunky or unpleasant here. I definitely get the cardamom, and I would have thought there are other spices too it really reminds me of some sort of holiday baking. In the deep dry down I’m getting the faintest whiff of a banana bread smell, but it’s not overly obvious. For the majority of this scent’s wear time it’s quite linear. Great performance just not as much development as I would have hoped and I have to admit after an hour or two I start to get annoyed with it and would rather put something else on or have it do something different than the creamy Christmas patchouli spice blend. It does smell incredibly high quality and for those of you who love “beast mode” scents and expect your niche fragrances to out perform your designer scents I’m sure you’d be pleased with this, but I like a more tame and humble type of fragrance most days. I’d never be able to go through a full bottle or even decant of this, but I will enjoy my little 2ml sample and probably have it for years to come (provided it doesn’t evaporate away on me) and I’m content with that.

I totally get the comparison to a mix of Ani by Nishane and Grand Soir by MFK in the opening! The spices are not as edgy/sharp as in Ani, but has got a similar aromatic sweetness like you would find in Grand Soir. However, in the dry down it slowly transforms more and more into something similar to Frederic Malle's Musc Ravageur. If you have either Grand Soir or Musc Ravageur in your collection, you probably won't need this as well. I think it's unisex, but leaning a tad bit more masculine - in the same way you find with Musc Ravageur and Grand Soir. But it can absolutely be worn by a woman as well imo, especially if you love a bold statement scent.

Was excited about this fragrance. The opening is gorgeous. Very sexy...dark, deep luxurious woods, amber, boozy vanilla, and a spike of cardamom. It wears closer to the skin, and does not last more than an hour or two (with my body chemistry). In the dry down the amber/patchouli remain, but it turns a tad powdery, with a strong presence of rose...most of the notes I find absolutely intoxicating seem to disappear. Well formulated, quality ingredient, and wanted to love it (based on scent/accord profile) but does not work with my body chemistry. Prefer Xeroff Empiryan...long lasting and not a lot of scent decay

A well-mixed 'sustainable' resins, patchouli & vanilla, which makes it more full-bodied, warm, wearable, and mass-appealing. Also get some fruity, tangy aspects from benzoin. It's 'ornated' by dusty, dry, woody vetiver and not so much of saffron & cardamom. On my skin, it's more woody than spicy. I particularly love and prefer the opening, which has a blast of spices & rose, with less vanilla and wish it'd remain that way (please give me a shout if you know something similar!). Gets sweeter and warmer towards the drydown — very vanillary. Highly-skilled blend. Uniqueness? Not so much.

This name is perfect. It's a whisper of an amber scent. It's everything you love about loud, bold ambers, but feels also like a skin-scent, or like your little secret. Smells like you snuck out on your lunch break, got down and dirty with someone wearing a warm sensual amber fragrance, then tucked your shirt in, splashed your face with water, and went back to your desk like nothing happened. There's a remnant of their scent on you, but in a lipstick-on-the-collar kind of way.

Beautiful, subtle warm spicy ambery scent. Not too unique, but it smells gorgeous and elegant for a perfume mainly of spices, vanilla, olibanum and patchouli. If you like vanilla+patchouli combinations, this could a more interesting, more subtle version to test.

Delectable. Dense. Refined. Resinous saffron. Saffron done right. First time I’ve ever written that. Deep nuance. Cardamom and sweet vanilla. Rose and patchouli. 🌹🤤 Smoooooooooooth blend. Harmonics kick in about 10 minutes post application.

tested it on paper, i get cardamom, saffron, cedar and rose on a sweet vanilla and olibanum base. i can detect patchouli too but the sweetness just overpowers it hard. a feminine leading and safe scent overall.

this amber is a great scent, to me it has low to moderate projection and the scent reminds me of intio parfums side effect.

Top shelf from the house. Vanilla and cardamom blend with resinous rose, amber and saffron. Strong, potent unisex mix.

It's a nice one, pleasant, easy on the senses. Has that mossy vetiver smell that is the dominant to me along with the cedar with the pink rose sneaking in with a touch of vanilla. it's nice but worthy of the price tag? I'd say try a sample before buying. It's not worth the price tag for me. Either can wear this, although If I had to pick, I'd say it's more for the feminine crowd. As for season, cool/colder Fall/Winter times.

The opening is such a strong animalic with sweet Christmas cinnamon spices. The bold animalic’s calm at the dry-down into a smooth amber/vanilla/olibanum which comes across as a rich leather with crystallizaed honey-benzoin. It’s the ultimate in comforting oriental spicy resins. If you adore resinous fragrances, then it doesn’t get better than this. Longevity on skin is excellent compared to other FDB.

Secret Tryst is just that...a hidden affair...from my nose and everyone else's. If you're sensitive to fragrances, then try this. Shhhh....Nobody will ever know. UPDATE: I tried it again and it's still a no. Something about this fragrance makes me smell musky. Like I've been wrestling alligators or something. I was quite shocked at the visceral reaction I had to Secret Tryst.

I stealth-like scent which goes under the radar and becomes a spicy skin scent. The cardamon is prominent and when combined with the olibanum, it gives an almost ground coffee-like resinous base. A gender-neutral scent with a spicy, resin dry-down.

A multifaceted, sophisticated amber. I’ve had Secret Tryst for about 3 months now and I absolutely love it. This is my second bottle from FdB (the first was Parisian, which I don’t really enjoy wearing, unfortunately). What I like most about this composition is the complexity and smoothness. It really plays on your skin and gives something new with every wear; in the rain, I get a lot of flowers, while on other days it’s mostly amber with some spices. It is super refined and beautiful, though it has a major Middle Eastern vibe (this might be a turn-off for some, so please test it). To my nose, this has absolutely nothing to do with Outlands (I’m baffled, in fact, because I also own Outlands and they are nothing alike). Outlands is three times beefier and louder, which makes it a tough wear for me, and it feels rough around the edges by comparison. I’m fairly convinced that the nose behind Secret Tryst is Shady Samra, although it is not confirmed. If you look at the note breakdown, it looks very classic and straightforward: spices up top with a floral heart and a resinous vanillic dry down. That’s pretty much what you get. However, what makes it a standout is how these notes are intertwined; it is truly remarkably refined. This would make a really great gift for someone who appreciates luxury-smelling oriental woody/amber fragrances. Totally worth it.

Secret Tryst opens like a light summer rain as we get caught in a sprinkle of sweet saffron. It's one of the most delightful expressions of the spice, all soft and shimmering. As we move into a woody and floral heart, the saffron coats the petals of the rose and jasmine, forming a lovely counterpoint to the fragrant cedar and vetiver. The scent remains light and airy in its initial moments and slowly grows richer as the amber starts blooming, a heady, nuanced amber experience that combines fragrant labdanum and spicy olibanum. I don't pick up on the patchouli and vanilla specifically but they ground things into a sweet, spicy and lightly earthy affair. Secret Tryst is one of two scents from the FDB For Lovers collection and as the lettering on the bottle indicates, is perfectly unisex, the masculine and feminine components achieving a joyous symphony. We get softness from the florals, vanilla and saffron but also a touch of smoke, warm amber and rich woods. I find the composition to be beautifully balanced. It shines in cooler weather and is a scent that feels incredibly romantic and special, something that could be shared between a couple on a date night. I get a light to moderate projection and sillage and generally good longevity, the scent coming back to me in delicious, tantalising whiffs throughout the night.

This is a great oriental scent where rose is hidden between a cardamom opening and an amber dry down with hints of something flinty. The performance is OK (6-8 h) but projection is a bit weak. It is a dark complex and unique scent in a lighter concentration. So what I did was layer it with FDB Borneo Oud (their best release, period) in a ratio of 4 sprays to 1 and got something quite heavenly. There is a whiskey-floral-chocolate-shoe polish-driftwood vibe about Borneo Oud and is has a slightly fizzy quality due to the terpenes in this type of oud. Layering it with Secret Tryst gives Secret Tryst more body and depth without sacrificing the bright top end, and covers up the greener terpenoid and drift wood side of Borneo Oud. A match made in heaven and if they mixed the 2 in a single release it would be their best scent and rival the best from Xerfoff and Roja.

This is my favourite of the new releases along with Solstis. I did not care for PM because the leather was too strong and it just seemed like Reflection Man + leather. I like Milano far more, which is a better leather fragrance from this same brand. Secret Tryst reminds me of MFK Grand Soir in its amber dominance, but it goes in a far different direction in that it is much less sweet and not even slightly vanillin, although vanilla is there in a sprinkle. It also has more complexity and spiciness and to me is a better fragrance that Grand Soir. The florals and cardamom give it an exoticism while the amber gives it a Middle Eastern warmth. Grand Soir seems simple and too sweet in comparison. I bought this and Solstis, this for Winter and Fall, Solstis for spring and summer.

I've heard a few YT influencers review this fragrance. I ordered a decant from lucky scent and at first sniff, this fragrance is reminiscent of Nishane Ani and MFK Oud Satin Mood mixed together in the opening and then dries dow to something reminiscent of a luxe hairspray. Not sure if it's worth getting since I have both of the previously mentioned scents and since the drydown is the most lasting part of a scent, I'm not feeling the hairspray smell. The opening is beautiful tho. It's a like, not a love.

If Fragrance Du Bois smells something from the other houses and gets a good ideea, then the house realises a better smelling fragrance, in most of the cases. This time the smell of Xerjoff Tony Iommi Monkey Special was replicate. If someone is not into leather and boozy, than should skip the Xerjoff's offering and go for this one. I am going to use both of them, but more often I will go with T.I.Monkey Special as I find it so special, on the boozy aspect and also on the projection.

I did not see a note breakdown before sniffing and it was not what I was expecting. Something really irked me on first sniff and I think it was the vetiver, as I’m not enjoying that not currently. I think I’ll spend more time with this fragrance because it is complex, high quality and unique for sure for to me, and when I don’t like it straight away, I sometimes end up discovering they are my favourites.

When i first sniffed it, i loved it, and the drydown made me realize that this blend is "Ambre Russ" by Parfum D'Empire :) I kept on sniffing the vanilla cognac, with cardamom, saffron, olibanum, patchouli, and worm amber. This blend is superbly similar as well to: "Amber Sultan" by Serge Lutens "1740 Marquis de Sade" by Histoires de Parfums And i believe now you got the whole idea :)

I’m a huge Fragrance Du Bois fan, but this is disappointing. The smell is nice, but I can’t get more than 3 hours of longevity. I’m not that person who constantly complains about longevity, either. It could just be my skin, but the performance is just atrocious. I highly recommend you fully wear it once before committing to a full bottle.

Think soft candlelight and whispered secrets — it’s not loud, but magnetic and addictive in close proximity. But prefer Moresque Soul Batik; leans richer and more resinous, with a sensual Middle Eastern flair. It has a commanding presence and wears luxuriously. Stronger projection than Secret Tryst; richer and more enveloping.

I was impressed by this earlier today. It's a very gentle character - doesn't lean too far in one direction or the other. Silky smooth blend - softly spiced, subtly clean, floral tones throughout and sweet woods discrete. Perfect for evenings where you're not sure what to wear; I wish I could pair a cocktail with this.

A beautiful niche blend, doesn't project nor stay for long though. Patchouli and rose are quite prevalent in this, and there's also something that causes noseblindness unfortunately. Saffron is beautiful here. Secret Tryst is worthy of sampling but with its current (lack of) staying power it's not worth a fb.

This smells exactly like Amouage Material!! I currently have both on my arms and you can’t tell the difference! I won’t bash the fragrance but I expect more from fragrance du bois, especially with their lofty prices. I’m actually disappointed in them for making such an unoriginal fragrance...

Wow, classic true amber. It even is a bit sour on me, so not gonna be one of my ambers, but my sister, who can wear those almost animalic ambers, will love this. It’s an excellent amber, without clear florals or anything messing it up. Not too buttery or sweet, not too dry.

I am sampling a sample from Lucky scent and I do not really smell anything other than slightly woody water when smelled from up close. Perhaps I am anosmic to it, but to me it feels like slightly ambery woody molecular water. I can not even rate it, the scent is this faint.

Smelled it in store today and quite liked it to be honest, the opening was slightly fresh, guessing it comes from the olibanum and the bergamot with the drydown becoming more warm and subtle

FDB "Secret Tryst" is a high quality fragrance but it's a boring fragrance and is bland and totally forgettable. 6/10
