Velvet Amber

I don’t post reviews often, but it’s shocking to me that Velvet Amber is rated so low. I absolutely love it and get compliments every time I wear it. It doesn’t just smell nice - it intrigues people. This is in my top 5 overall. Performance is 12+ hours.

the scent that i cannot live without! everything about this perfume represent me and my personality. sadly it's discountinued already and so hard to get nowadays :') please bring this back Fragrance Du Bois!

3 words: Spicy,oud,warm Got a sample from lucky scent. At first wearing I got a was very boring, grey, and blah scent. After 2nd and 3rd round I started to understand this scent better. Opening doesn't stand on its own it's just bolsters the middle and base notes. Cardamom sticks from the top notes as the other notes fade off. Cardamon mixes nicely with the saffron. Oud oil, amber, cypriol oil, and rose are present from the start. This is where the scent stays the remainder of its life. The oud is not fecal or dirty. I get some sweetness which I think comes from the rose. Background is Woody, green, a little bit of sweetness. I wouldn't say this scent is anything new, but it can be appreciated for its blend and quality of ingredients. You can pick apart notes but still enjoy this fragrance as one big accord. Performance is very good. Easy on the nose to beginners, but enjoyable for seasoned noses. One drawback is price. PROS Blend "Mass appealing" Performance CONS Price Can come off boring Overall 7/10 points I would recommend a sample on this. It's nice but doesn't move me enough to add this my collection.

Strong mature woody leather combo straight from the beginning. I wouldn't say off-putting but first seconds close enough to want to was it of. Good I didn't do it. After 5 minutes it starts to mellow down and gains more depts. Ambery facets appear after an hour and that's when the best part begins. Good longevity, pretty astonishing projection. If I ever buy it it would be decant, more is not neccessary to last a lifetime. Careful with spraying close to face, may get overwhelming.

Weird, I over sprayed and all I get is tire smell! Update: a few hours later I now get oil mixed in! This is awful!

Fecal rotten opening that lasts just too long for me. Barnyard skanky oud blended with rough leather and patchouli. Velvet Amber is totally misleading in the same way that Le Labo misleads with their names. Not a pinch of sweetness as the amber and vanilla notes just don't exist.It lasts 8 hours easily and the dry down is a bit less harsh as rose and saffron become noticeable but it's not enough to save this. The only type of female that I can see pulling this off is a dominatrix or someone built like WWE's China, R.I.P.

New York, 1965; A tall, mature woman enters a bar, her blonde hair in a strict bun, holding a cigarette holder, smoke following her footsteps, wearing a long mink coat that touches the ground. All eyes on her. @fragrancedubois Velvet Amber is that woman - so many thoughts come to mind when I am trying to describe this fragrance. First of all, the name is misleading. When I imagined Velvet Amber, I imagine a sweet, almost syrupy fragrance accompanied by spices - however I could not be more wrong. Velvet Amber is not the sweet ambery fragrance you would imagine; it is piercing, strict, and dark and mysterious. The base is gorgeous musk, vanilla, amber and in the middle you can find the best quality oud oil, saffron and cardamom, cypriol oil. The top is rich with citrus. I dont get the freshness of the top here; what I immediately get is piercing woodiness and smokiness, accopanied by spices, but also an animalic facet - maybe the oud oil? Or the cypriol oil? Not sure what, but the initial smell is very animalic to my nose. This threw me off on the first tries - but that harshness only lasts a couple of minutes - then it dries down to woody, spicy and smoky, all blended together with rose. In the drydown you can definitely feel the rose. This fragrance is how I imagine that woman - smoke, natural odours of fur, a sweet fragrance put underneath all mixed together - this reeks wealth. And I find this to be very true - this scent is rich, wealthy, dark and adventurous. Easily one of the most complex fragrances in my collection. But the name should be something else. Something that reflects its gorgeous qualities better. ♥️

I don’t know what people talking about this being fecal rotten or too animalic. It’s OUD and the earthy Cypriol and Patchouli here that shocked you. The opening is strong and sharp, leather is harsh, yes but didn’t associate it with those things. After an hour or so, I start to understand why it’s called Velvet Amber. It’s warm, woody amber with dark and resinous facets to it. Quite powerful amber accord. The rose is quite jammy but stays in the background as the leather and woodsy facets take the main stage. Absolutely a unicorn in their range and sadly it’s already gone. This is something a scent connoisseur would appreciate. Not for a faint of heart for sure!

Are you, guys and girls, sure that you do not like this ? Are you, guys and girls, sure that you do like Monsieur, by Frederic Malle? Well, they smell almost the same. This one is more powerful than Monsieur. It stays 20+ hours on the skin. Is it unisex ? I don't think so, as it smells very masculine on me. It is very heavy on the leather aspect. So, girls, stay away from it, and stop complaining ! 🤭
