Green Sapphire

First few days (if your bottle hasn't settled down just yet): Imagine that on a misty afternoon/evening you go on a stroll in the forest and you get lost like those teenagers in Horror movies. Eventually you find a small clearing between the trees that happens to be a long forgotten, over 200 years old graveyard that has been overgrown with conifers, deciduous trees, bushes, cypresses and wild grasses. In the air you can smell heavy vapors of damp, still slightly warm soil, rotting deadwood, mosses and fallen leaves. Cypresses are unforgiving, dry, bitter, cold, herbaceous, very powerful and almost choking you out. The smell of this place is gothic, dark, moist, heavy, bit moldy and cold, however after a while you start smelling something pleasant, almost out of the place - a lone, slightly sour note of a raspberry. 30 min later the mist settles, woods and moss dry down and some sweet notes of amber and sandalwood sweeten up the place creating a strange comforting sensation that further deepens the sensoric dissonance. It's a really dynamic and captivating scent that evolves through time. At the beginning it can be unpleasant (although after the second wear I was yearning for more and since then I begun to like it a lot) then dries down to a very realistic fresh wood with notes of resin, amber and dark but slightly sweet sandalwood accompanied with both sweet and sour raspberry (or cherry). Scent of the wood outlives all other notes by a lot. I can smell it on my skin in the evening of the next day, even after shower. It's photorealistic and absolutely amazing. I wouldn't complain if this fragrance had only this single note throughout its whole duration - it doesn't get boring for me. #### After 2-3 weeks: If those initial sprays felt like an unfamiliar, strange, scary place hidden between dying woods in the misty and dark location, then after "maturation" it has changed a lot. The sun has risen, mist and mold are gone and someone has clearly taken care of the place taking away all the rot and dead leaves. Cypresses smell "fresh green" and are no longer suffocating, resins became sweeter, come sooner and blend well with the green notes so everything smells much more like a sunny, warm place at the edge of the forest. Fresh pine needles, warm sunny soil and heavy, resinous woods, sweetened up with sandalwood and with a hint of refreshing sour raspberry in the background. ### Amazing conceptual fragrance. The "sunny" version is beautiful, easy to wear and elegant albeit not fitting every situation. I usually cycle my fragrances every day, however this is the one that tempts me and calls for attention every single day, and it's the one of which I've spent the most of juice so far. It's pretty strong and works really well when you spray it under the clothes - slowing down the diffusion, making it smoother and sweeter. I really love it. If I could, I'd also buy the earlier gothic version of it (before maturation did its work) - a moody, damp, cold, dark and moldy edition, to occasionally wear it when the right mood hits.

#1334 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I love greenies, and Fragrance World is on a roll with me right now. I've not tried out Boadicea's "Green Sapphire." It's pointless. Most of my guitars didn't cost me over $700 and I've earned money with them. The only Boadicea scent I have is "Complex", and I do love it, but I found it on sale for $160. So I can't say one way or the other if this is an accurate dupe of that scent. I can say with absolutely certitude it is not a dupe of Amouage "Epic" which I own, but there is some similarity to Armani "Stronger with You Sandalwood" which I also own. What I can say is this is the best $18 you'll spend on a fragrance if you're a fan of green-leaning fragrances. This is a great smelling, high quality greenie that does not disappoint. If Jacques Bogart would do EDPs of their greenies (Bogart pour Homme, Jacques Bogart, One Man Show, One Man Show Emerald), they would smell like this. Cypriol, oak moss and pine needles play on my love for that evergreen forest smell that had me mountain climbing and hiking in the Cascades every weekend when I lived there, just to be able to breathe that crisp conifer-scented air. It can be overdone (Pino Sylvestre's horrid scents for example), but this is just right. High quality, very long-lasting and good sillage. So go easy in tight spaces, and I'd save this for cooler weather.

A little bit of mint, more cypriol, pine which emerges quite strongly as it dries down , cedar, a little moss and finishing on long lasting musk. A nice Monday morning in Springtime. Performs well and I've been told that it smells amazing on me.

This one is quite different from others in my collection - I've been searching for a foresty pine needle forward scent for a while (I like pine forests) and despite the notes... this isn't it. I just got the bottle so I am going to revisit this in a few weeks but it smells... funky. Opening notes are sweet and woody, with a tinge of something that smells like decay. Not decay in the bad sense but decay in a noble sense... it's just really different and that to me is the sweetness - I do not smell raspberry. But that passes reasonably quickly in the first 30-60 minutes and you get ... wood. An overwhelming dose of white pine or oak wood. Not incense, not sandalwood, I'm talking... lumber - like walking in the Home Depot lumber. Chopping down trees wood. Woodworking with a band saw wood. And that wood note really lasts quite a while. Last I checked, 12 hours on clothing as a 'skin' scent. My first impressions are that Green Sapphire is to wood as Ombre Leather (or Godolphin) is to Leather. A big, heavy blast of it. I think this is a mature scent and I wouldn't even bother with it if a man was under 30, unless he has a passion for woodworking in which case it will take him in his mind right to his workshop. Its not the scent I was looking for (maybe Pino Sylvestri?) but it is intriguing. I wouldn't call the scent sexy, but I think on a well dressed 60 year old wearing a tweed jacket and smoking a cigar it would fit in with that huge daddy energy. Come back in a month.

I'm choosing to like this for what it is, instead of disliking it for what it isn't. I've had this for about a year. Initially, it was so sharp that it made me sneeze, plus it smelled like pine and eucalyptus toilet spray ... not what I was hoping for, of course. So I sprayed it out a lot (used it for layering), adding oxygen to the bottle, and simply waited. Now it smells so good! Perfect for rainy summer days or autumn (it's too cool of a scent for me in winter and spring). Wearing this immediately takes me on a walk after the rain through a pine forest, with green moss everywhere, and the sun beaming on some logs, introducing damp, sweet, woody scents into the air. This is why I really like Green Sapphire: it emanates a forest witch vibe. I love the simplicity of the bottle and the beautiful Boadicea-inspired cap design. But here's why I won't repurchase. I have to spray this over thirty times just to get some projection out of it. Within three hours, the smell has evaporated from my skin, and even though I douse my clothing in it, it's almost gone. So I am just enjoying this whilst it lasts, and when I want it to perform for a longer period of time, I just bring a decant with me.
