Nose Note #813 This is absolutely amazing. It immediately became one of my favourites. Despite all the "black", "vinyl" or "lacquer" I find it to be a very pleasant experience, it doesn't offer anything crazy niche or weird. It's giving me the strongest reminisence of a turkish or a finnish wooden bath (the hot bath) when the temperature rises and the wood heats up - this is exactly how Kohl smells like, like very hot wood plus some classic fir soap or balm. So so good, just incredible. Brings up warm childhood memories of going to the public baths with my dad. I haven't smelled anything like this. It reminds me very distantly of Ebene Fume which to my nose has a strong red berry note and something slightly tomato-like. This is purely hot wood, or maybe this is just what ebony smells like. I guess you can say it also smells inky. Performance is between medium and strong, but more strong. Of course I wish it was eternal so I could never part with this smell... 9.5/10, just wow

Frag. Review #1 Fragrance World Kohl, a dupe of TF Black Lacquer. Quick review: This is more pungent than the original! To my nose, it’s about 90–95% similar to TF’s. If emos 🥺 and vampires 🧛 had a scent in general, this is what they would smell like. The dominant notes are vinyl and ink. Just from that, you might already be asking yourself: is this blind-buy safe? Is it for you? If you’re into smelling different and unique—into dark, incense-like scents, and enjoy sniffing something like floral ink (if that makes sense)—then the answer is YES 👍 When and where to wear it? At the upcoming My Chemical Romance concert, or while listening to early 20s emo music in the rain. Kidding aside, I don’t find this very friendly for our weather. It’s better worn in an air-conditioned room or when it’s cooler. Get your money’s worth! (Or buy the OG, idc it's your money anyway) 😆

I loved Black Lacquer so much that I went through two bottles of it last fall/winter. I have only gone through an entire bottle of a couple fragrances in my entire life, so when I breezed through two 50ml of it, I knew I had to start buying dupes because it is way too rich for my blood. I got this and it 100% does it for me. It's a little harsher when you spray it, but after you let it dry for a few minutes it's almost the exact same. Don't get me wrong, no dupe is going to be 100%, but I sprayed these side by side and had to go back and forth. Even if you can tell the minute differences in them, they both still smell amazing. If this is your type of scent, it's a no brainer when looking at the price.

Never had a chance to smell the Tom Ford that this is supposed to be a clone of. The notes looked right up my alley and for $40 pulled the trigger on a blind buy and I'm glad I did. This is nice, for someone who is sick of all the sweet girly girly fragrances being released this is a breath of fresh air. Starts a bit dirty but then turns magical. Not sure if it's the peony because I've never smelt one before but something gives this a lightness to the rest of the dark notes and balances it nicely. Wearing this in the winter but working so I'm sweating as well just gives off a beautiful scent. Not sure about this being weak because I noticed it for a full 12 hours easy. Gate keeping this one. 9/10

I absolutely love this fragrance in the opening. That inky black sharpie smell is amazing. Maybe I love it because I've spent years drawing, but I'm in love with it. It's like Black Lacquer and Laudano Nero had a baby. I still prefer Black Lacquer, but I love this. The only draw back is the opening only lasts about 30 seconds and then it turns into an incensey, woody, pepper bomb you can't scrub off if you try. The woods smell stayed on the back of my hand for 4 days despite washing multiple times. Thank God the projection was limited. Overall, I like this fragrance, but I love the opening, and I love the bottle design. 7/10 for me. If the opening lasted longer it would be 10/10.

I smelt Tom Ford Black lacquer one day and on a whim I looked up a dupe and ordered Kohl. It's divine, but I think maybe I'll give it to my husband as it may be a tad too masculine for me. It will be a sexy date night scent for him to wear. I might layer it with something vanillic first and see if that makes it wearable for me. Either way, it's a dead ringer for the TF fragrance in my opinion. Update: It was too masculine for me to wear, so I gave it to my husband and he loves it. I still think it is an amazing dupe for TF Black Laquer and a classy fragrance.

Kohl is a DARK, woody, smoky, & resinous masterpiece. It leaves hint of sweetness in the air, the same way ink can smell a bit sweet to the nose. There’s something mysterious and introspective about this fragrance that’s very somber, yet intoxicatingly sensual. It is BOLD, addictive, and unforgettable. It smells like something a 300 year old vampire would wear while strolling at midnight. (Not for kids, or fans of modern tutti frutti unisex scents) (95% resemblance to TF Black Lacquer)

Opening is strong, cold, murky ink and vinyl - amazingly realistic. Like Lalique Encre Noir gives u a bit of a dark unsettling (graveyard) feeling... this cold ink/vinyl does similar. The intensity softens in the drydown, and then u also get a smokey, slightly rubber smell, along with wood and incense. The wood/incense reminds me of Lattafa 'Hala' which reminds one of an old catholic church. It being a bit 'different' and not the usual mass appealing DNA.. is why I like it! 😁

I originally bought this for my husband and although this is more a masculine scent, by god I love wearing this as a lady. It reminds me of sitting in an old wooden hot tub as a child but make that hot tub in the back of an old church. It’s warm, resinous and deeply woody, in an homely and welcoming way like an old church on a wet winters night.

Just recently picked this up in Australia and it's an instant love for me. It's a very dark and heavily masculine scent but in a really good way. It's very thick, musky and resinous, quite smoky on the top notes but dries down into a really nice warm scent. It reminds me a little bit of Hugo Boss the Scent, but way better.

Love it! So addictive. Primarily getting the frankincense throughout and stays long. Worth the purchase.

It reminds me of Sudanese type of incense they burn on the daily

As a fifty yr old this makes me nostalgic for a place i don't remember. it reminds me of people i used to know, garages and shops - could name none of them but i know them and they know me. it's not friendly but it does make you welcome. dark, plasticky, old pages with thick biro, none of it smells natural but nothing feels out of place either. there's little warmth but reminds you it's colder elsewhere. not mass appealing to the point of standing pretty firmly in niche territory. a lot of people will despise it, and i'd guess the younger you are the more that would be true, but if you wear scent for the pleasure of thought and memory this has the capacity to build you a little world to visit and be quite captivating in the process. not blind buy safe but is also the best way to experience it.

This smells like sitting by a fireplace that just got put out, on a cold summer night, and that one hippy girl who is camping together is burning 5 sticks of incense right in the middle of the camp. Its literally all there is to it - just burnt wood and incense, and not the churchy kind, the annoying, cheap kind. Doesnt necessarily smell bad, but theres no ink or vinyl note, no depth to it, it doesnt progress as it dries down. It might be nice to get a whiff of this once in a while, but its not really wearable, even if youre looking for something UNIQUE or DARK, everyone whos ever been in a wet sauna or an incense shop will recognize this smell. If youre expecting this black, glossy, inky, plastic vinyl vibe like i was - this is definitely not it. 4.5/10

Update: Longevity is good now after 6 months. Not sure when it maturated enough for longevity to be fixed. --- Original review: This is an incense bomb with a licorice nuance. It's like Amouage Royal Tobacco without the concrete accord. I've smelt Tom Ford Black Lacquer a few times from the in-store tester, and this seems to be very accurate. I haven't compared side-by-side yet though. I've had this fragrance for 1 week now, and the longevity is shockingly poor. This fragrance is so weak, has no projection, and has poor longevity of maybe 30-60 minutes on my skin. This performs worse than a lot of freshies, which is wild because this is an incense bomb. Hopefully maturation fixes this, otherwise expect to have to spray 3-4 times as much for a normal wear experience, and therefore think of the 100ml bottle as really being a maximum of 33ml. I love this smell, and this is my favourite incense DNA, but I'm highly disappointed in the performance so far.

I would say it that most reviewers below are correct and to my nose it smells niche and the notes listed can be smelled - the ink and vinyl are kind of realistic. This DNA is for sure unique, rather manly scent that is projecting very well. But there is some funky note that I can't smell on a skin but on a shirt or a strip instead of vinyl note it gives me a strange smell that I would describe as mix of body odour, cat piss and it is kind of sour maybe from apricot.

Wow crazy, there were like 10-15 reviews for this fragrance on here a few days ago and now they are all gone. They all praised the performance and scent profile, I wonder if they were fake. I almost just bought this too.
