Absinthe

Of all the absinthe fragrances out there, this one is much less licorice and anise smelling, rather this focuses on wormwood. I actually appreciate that, because that makes this fragrance more wearable. That is not to say that this is a crowd pleaser, it is definitely not. Do not expect compliments wearing this. This is something you should wear for your own enjoyment, which is a good thing because it only projects moderately for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half. Then it becomes a very nice, long lasting skin scent that you will want to keep bringing your arm up to smell. It has a similar vibe to Fou d'Absinthe by L'Artisan Parfumeur, but this is dryer, woodier, less spicy, more focused, longer lasting, and cheaper. I imagine most people won't go for this, but as far as absinthe fragrances go it's one of the best in my opinion.

Absinthe is very, very well crafted fragrance. It starts with big dose of bitterness and sweetness of artemisia and heliotrope respectively. Than Absinthe continues as woody, rather dry (rhubarb and vetiver) but heaving little sweet, viscous background (heliotrope, amber and leather). It is jumping up and down between these two features. In my opinion this is one of the most unobvious fragrances I have in my collection. This is because each second Absinthe remains very unexpected in its behaviour changing like crazy on the skin depending on the mood, humidity, temperature around you. Shortly – this is chameleon among fragrances, as the name “absinthe” should suggests. Thus I would recommend it to wear in any weather you want. It always be good if you want feel special. Believe me this is fragrance worth its price.

edit: I have bottle of this and Beau de Jour now, they are somewhat similar but the Boclet is a little creamy and BdJ a bit more austere and amber tinged. Both are great, the Boclet is the far better value buy and BdJ is a bit better quality (the lavender is cleaner and stronger). ---- Opens creamy green herbs and lavender, not anis like I associate with Absinthe. Notes say wormwood and I suppose its that but its unlike any other herbal notes I've smelled before. Not just unusual though, very pleasant scent that is neither dark or bright. Leather and bitter florals start to come through a little later which adds even more depth which then eventually turns more soapy barbershop in deeper dry down. Really interesting stuff imho and a nice twist on a fougere that can be had on the cheaper end of a niche house. Possibly bottle worthy to me, as is their Tobacco release.

I didn't know what wormwood smells like, and now I know. Out of the sample set, this is the only one that I hated so much, I washed it off my arm. The first frgrance that I would descibe as unpleasant.
