Cedre

Another risky blind buy in my quest for unknown and interesting fragrances... It's nothing like what I'd expected. I was worried it'd be old-mannish, too woody, muggy, maybe have that pickleish sandalwood kind of scent. None of that is the case, this is the easiest and most unisex wearing fragrance in my humble collection, that much was clear right away. It opens clean, milky, coconutty, I don't know if it's the pepper in a way, but at first it smells like you stepped out of a warm, coconutty bubble bath. Super clean, warm and lactonic. It develops very linearly from there, getting just more and more woody as it dries down, yet the coconut never leaves throughout. Making it feel more like I'm smelling just a roasted coconut shell, with slightly caramelized flesh within, than a piece of wood. If I strain I can pick out the sandalwood and maybe some leather, but with how smoothly this is blended, it is impossible to tell whether those are just nuances of the coconut and wood notes. I could easily see myself wearing this in summer, at work, on a date, for chores, at home, anywhere, anytime really Extremely inoffensive, laid back, woody, lightly sweet coconut scent. You're not gonna offend or wow anyone with this, unless they feel strongly about coconut, be that positive or negative. Also impossible to overspray this since the projection is never past elbow length. It functions more like a 5-6 hour lasting body spray than a pafrum. Beastmode this is not. I dont know whether that should disappoint me or not, but it lends itself well to the relaxed scent persona honestly. I'll be getting a lot of use out of this! Scent: 8/10 (for coconut enjoyers) Performance: intimate Occasion: any Thus, at last, concludes my hunt for a not so sweet, 'humble' coconut scent. :] This is Fan your Flames without the tobacco and booze, Le Beau without the coumarin nuke and fruits.

#1580 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant out of caution for the low rating even, though I mostly don't bother to get decants of scents under $100 like this $60 scent. I'm also mindful that Franck Boclet gets no respect. Maybe it's the outdated bottles? Maybe it's the lack of luscious models in magazines caressing the products like they're climaxing? I mean, when was the last time Boclet spent a buck on marketing and advertising? They just don't. But that's probably also why they produce some really nice scents at a reasonable price. Take this "Cedre." With a low 3.46 rating you'd expect something genuinely offensive like Etat Libre d'Orange "Secretions Mangnifiques" which really is sewer water and earns its 2.44 rating. But "Cedre" is a great fragrance, a simple cedar-coconut-tobacco scent that's not fruity, not floral, masculine, but unisex enough for women, and just $60. I also get the resemblance to Nishane "Fan Your Flames", but minus the flourishes. I find the Boclets to be very simple scents and I'm here for it. Throwing in the laboratory sink never really works for me. This scent is good quality, versatile for any use, any environment. I'm in for a bottle!

This is in my opinion, crystal noir's (edp) younger and more quiet sister. CN is stronger and has better lasting power. It is a beautiful perfume, and it can be worn in the office as it's non offensive. I'd like the cedre to be a bit stronger but it's nonetheless a beautiful perfume.

I've been wearing Cedre on and off for the past week, trying to completely get my arms around it, to understand it better. I am nevertheless still struggling to describe it. So for now, I'll just throw out some snapshot thoughts of my early impressions. First off, this is oily stuff, right out of the sprayer, so be careful where you spray it. The first note I pick up is a dry cedar, natural and definitively masculine. If I were to stand this note on its own, it would be in similar vein to the cedar/woods in Gucci Pour Homme. But here's the thing - it doesn't stand alone here, but rather integrates a dry, woody sandalwood/cypriol combination right behind it, complimenting but never dominating that cedar backbone. I also get just a slight touch of black pepper, accentuating that dusty sharpness of the combined woods. So far, so good, right? Here's the twist: coconut. As in every part of the coconut. Sweet milk pressed from white, fresh-scraped meat, a splash of slightly tangy coconut water and somehow lightly toasted bits of the coconut shell -- are all jammed in there, enough that you can pick them all out if you're patient enough. And yet, all of these coconut nuances still play a secondary role to the wood elements, complimenting, adding warmth and sweetness. If amber is in there, it's very subtle for added sweetness, but I'm not sure I can pick it out here. I do get a touch of musk, which helps carry the scent forward much longer than I suspect it would go otherwise. Speaking of which, this is no beast. Far from it. At most, it extends to arm's length if you're lucky. Sillage is probably not going to be much, either. Personally, that suits me fine. I wear this stuff for me, not everyone else. I can understand others taking issue with a perceived lack of longevity -- I fell for that one too, the first time. Be patient, this one comes and goes throughout the day. You and your nose just forget it's there. I don't know if it's a matter of big molecules or what, but it's still there for several hours. Overall, I am really enjoying the alternating impressions this one provides -- dry, kind of "old mannish" woodsiness, tropical coconut, fresh laundry (in similar fashion to Creed Santal's dry down). As with the other Franck Boclet creations I've tried, it takes some time to parse out all of what's going on -- which to me is a reflection of quality, subtlety and artistry in a fragrance. It also suggests to me that what I'm smelling right now of this may evolve and even improve over time -- both in terms of scent and performance. Looking forward to that journey. This one is a keeper.

Really unique scent , first sniff is a little bit sweet because of coconut, but that’s the main reason why I like it so much. Sweetness makes it sexy and noticeable scent. This amazing Combination of coconut, cedar, little bit spices, woody, earthy(for me), musky, amber notes. Performance is not a best but scent is really amazing. I think, It will be great to wear on date.
