Tonka

Firstly, I say that I've grown more to like this perfume than I initially thought I would. The reason for it is paradoxically what I consider this perfume lacks: a contrasting note that balances the other overwhelming and dominating sweet notes. It is, though, a clean and natural scent in a way, because it resembles bodily odors, but without any stench. It presents no or very little bitterness, brightness or greenness. My guess is that this is more of a polarizing scent, that somebody will absolutely love for its warmth and cosiness, linearity and serenity, yet someone else will despise it for being nauseating, boring, reminiscing of some foods or detergents, lipsticks and your-old-auntie-style of perfume. Fig, almond, tonka, sandalwood and peach are a mighty combo of notes here. They kind of drift in the same direction. The perfume is very dry and powdery. The sillage is quite potent, specially in the first hours. When it comes to gender, I gather the scent is more on the feminine side, but it is by far not a daring perfume for men, so as a male, you'll be good. It is suitable for many occasions, but it is not an all-rounder. It can be invasive for those who dislike these kind of note combinations, and in this way, I would not recommend it for work environment, colleague evening out or as perfume for dating. On the other hand, for family gatherings, for shopping, for hiking and even for sports, it'll do just fine.

Like the reviewer below, I’ve also grown to like this over time. At first I thought, another vanillic fragrance but I put in back of my armoire and let it sit for a month. Once the weather got colder and I wanted a more cozy scent I grabbed it out and sprayed, wow it turns into a beautiful comfort scent. I am a woman, and this is unisex not just masculine which I am kinda of confused in the description here. It’s such a beautiful vanilla tonka scent with a hint of citrus. I believe that I am getting this from the fig and lemon. If any of this house of fragrances is compared to Lira, then it is this one! This is much more complex and fuller than Lira and the lasting power is phenomenal much past 6 to 8 hours. once it hits the 6th hour it sits closer to the skin. This to me is wearable in the fall and winter as the notes are deeper and heavier. I would highly recommend this if you are a huge Lira lover or anything in the gourmand notes. Frank Boclet does not disappoint and I am looking to try some more from this house. I am not sure why this doesn’t get much love but please check them out. Highly recommended 10/10.

I think people are more accustomed with vanilla than tonka, and to be honest, 3 years ago when I came across Franck Boclet perfumes, i had no idea what tonka was... It's different with vanilla. We have known vanilla since we were little in the form of ice cream. And that's why, i think, tonka receives less warm welcome than vanilla, considering that they are supposed to have the more or less alike scent. Tonka is a very warm gourmandish scent with stellar projection and longevity even though it's only an edp. For me the main player is still tonka from the first spray to the end, for sure, she was accompanied by many angels (think Charlie's Angels), the first one is almond, then on the second phase almond is replaced by sandalwood, and the last angel is peru balsam who takes Tonka to the end destination. Superb!!!

This is a very nice tonka-centred perfume. We're all familiar with tonka as a ubiquitous base note in many contemporary fragrances, but it's rarely placed front and centre - except maybe in Dior Feve Delicieuse. The most popular mainstream perfume with prominent tonka is CH Good Girl - however in that one tonka is overpowered by cocoa, coffee and tuberose. Here in FB Tonka, these sweet beans are complemented with almonds and some leafy and balsamic notes. Tonka is strong and long lasting, but not overpowering; the projection is just right. The scent is unisex, slightly leaning feminine. 10/10

Absolutely beautiful! Since I’m a collector, and yes I love to give positive reviews and if negative I try and go easy. This is a beautiful Tonka and on me me it has an almost citrus undertone, it’s the fig and lemon coming out. I do have to over spray because it fades if not oversprayed about 10 to make sure. This is def unisex and sillage is arms length but leaves a trail. Cozy and warm, even with the fig ginger and lemon. This is on my fall and winter tray. I can’t wait to smell this on my sweater this winter. Recommended 10/10 I reviewed this not that long ago but this is 2 years after.
