Sunrise Vetiver

Opens with a beautiful blast of citruses. Then, the heart will develop a strong green facet thanks to the verbena (the main player here) and a subtle creaminess, thanks to the orange blossom. The base will have a smoky (but not earthy/dirty) vetiver develop supported by nutmeg (getting similar to Guerlain Vetiver's tobacco/vetiver opening at that stage), as well as some vanillic incense (elemi?). Some say that Mark Buxton is the nose behind this one, and given the great result, it might be very true. I will agree with a previous reviewer, that this one reminds of the thin (but well defined) citrus-y structure of PE Vetiver Indien, but the similarities with Tauer Vetiver Dance are limited to a remote facet. While it shares (some) common facets with other vetiver fragrances, it is the clone of none, and has its own story to tell. Projection is on the softer side, but at just $20, one can spray generously to bring it to a moderate level, and the presentation is more than expected at that price point (nice heavy glass bottle with magnetic cap !!). I would still recommend Guerlain Vetiver over this one to people on a budget, because for just $5 more (testers can be found for ~$25 on ebay), you'll get the reference, but I have to admit that the Franck Olivier brand did a great job, and it might even be more suited than Guerlain's on hotter Summer days. I consider it a solid addition to my vetiver-centric 50+ bottles, and highly recommend it to whom is looking for a lighter verbena/citrus forward fragrance, with noticeable vetiver in the base. Wonderful. The bright citrus "sunrise" is extremely short-lived, refreshing though it is at the opening. The rest of this fragrance's life is one of the best interpretations of vetiver currently for sale at any price. It's linear with its inherent smokiness, reigned in by just enough green for rounded depth. Is that a bit of cardboard that makes itself known from time to time? Sure seems that way. And it's terrific. As far as vetivers go overall, I guess this could be "sunny" .. it's not somber at all, as vetivers can sometimes be. It's light yet not weak; very present in its wearing without being like a cloak. This is not an everyday fragrance for me, but it is surely a solid love. This makes me want to try other creations by Mark Buxton (listed elsewhere as the nose for all fragrances by this house). Well done.

Great vetiver scent, quite superior in fact if you ask me. I like vetiver with the right amount of citruses, right contrast, and this is what you find here. A citrusy vetiver scent profile. Its more similar to Grey vetiver than to Guerlain vetiver, though shares facets of both and then adds some. I tried all the big Vetiver names, I prefer this! If you like it, grab extra bottles while you still can, it's discontinued now.

Just got this today, got a steal on it. Happy I got it as it's been discontinued. Simple fun, light, high quality vetiver scent with some citrus. Reminds me of a much lighter version of Encre Noire Sport. This will be great for layering with other scents come the warmer months.

You can definitely smell the dusty, light smokiness of the vetiver. Now imagine that mixed with "orangeness" of the orange blossom and a tinge of herbal, slightly sour greenness from the verbena and the citrus mixed with the rosemary and a tad bit of cardamom. My description sounds so unappealing, but I like the way it smells. For me, it smells fresh, clean, and soapy, but I think the fragrance would appeal to a younger guy or an older, casual guy that has a youthful personality. It is a daytime, spring-summer fragrance. Again, I like it. BUT DO NOT let my review influence your buy. Assess it yourself and have your own thoughts, rather than strictly going off someone else's thoughts and opinions. If you can, I suggest getting a sample first...or looking up the notes to ensure you will like it. Read reviews before buying a fragrance, but take them with a grain of salt. Everyone has their own opinion regarding smells. IF you do buy it, enjoy it :-)

Not sure I got the cirtus notes in the opening; nutmeg and cardamon notes were mild, too. Vetiver quickly occupied the scent profile after ~1 hour of application on my skin, and other notes became barely detectable. I love vetiver, so that is great for me! Longevity and sillage are weak; it turns into skin scent in about 3 hours. Multiple applications or maybe spraying on clothes would help the performance. At ~$20 USD, Sunrise Vetiver EdT from Franck Olivier is a great buy and I have no complains.

It’s a pleasant Vetiver offering. Citrus up front in Lemon Verbena and working its way from a nice clean and very soapy scent to a smokey masculine finish with just a touch of Vetiver. Nice change of pace warm weather frag. It’s definitely a daytime, warmer weather one that I like as a pleasant, serviceable and surprisingly good fragrance. I love this one. It's an easy-to-wear casual vetiver scent which is something I was looking for. Does remind me of Guerlain Vetiver and Encre Noire Sport; however not as refined but unlike those two I think this is something you can wear in more casual situations such as the gym or just running errands. Super fresh and has lots of citruses which adds to its casual nature. Its also more suitable in the summer compared to those two. Solid 9/10

This is a pretty good vetiver scent, especially given the price. I think it is a good scent for those who are testing the waters for a juice that is primarily vetiver as it is not as spicy as Guerlain Vetiver, TF Grey Vetiver, nor as dark and moody as Encre Noir. It goes on bright and light (for vetiver) and lasts for about 4-5 hours. At the end of a work day I cannot smell it on my skin. Layers well with other scents too.

Really close to Guerlain Vetiver. I'd say it's the little brother l, where as Extreme is big brother. Lasts less, it's fresher and brighter. I appreciate this scent for its value and quality.

Damn I didn't like it that much... First disappointment from Franck Oliviers'. I was expecting a Citrus fragrance with green-woody-minty-fresh-spicy masculine colors, but instead I found too much Floral with those citruses. There is no wood or earth in here, it's a very gay vetiver, more like a Citrus-Floral fragrance with only a tiny bit of "green". And the performance is very bad (I'm even considering the possibility that I was sold with a fake refilled bottle, but it's pretty unlike considering the high quality of the bottle along with the low price this fragrance is sold at). It smells ok, like a warm spring day in a garden of lemon trees in bloom while drinking a margarita... but why would you wanna smell like that. I know I'm never gonna use this, unfortunately.

Disappointing performance and fragrance. I had luck with a previous Olivier, but not this time. There's a reason for its discontinuation. It's quite lackluster and devoid of any personality.

This popped up briefly on a discounter for $18, so I couldn't resist snagging it. Firmly gender neutral vetiver, that is indeed in between a simplified Guerlain Vetiver and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver but with a bit stronger and feminine leaning iris. It has the refreshing, grassy-green, aspects of vetiver from those but stripped of the husky masculine notes from both. Gone is the tobacco and performance of Guerlain, and the warm spice and humid amberwood of Grey Vetiver. It's simplified, light, refreshing and polite in performance. I really enjoy it, and don't always need or want a complex, long lasting, beast mode, or avant garde artsy experience. Sometimes just a simple refreshment is what I seek, and this delivers there. I've never understood the "Dentist/Doctor Office" association with vetiver fragrances that I've seen made until this. Makes sense now, there's something about this that takes me to waiting rooms and sterile environments. In a non-negative, nostalgic way. My partner said "you smell like my Grandma" but she has also said the same about Guerlain Vetiver, Private Label, and most vetiver scents I wear. As far as price, I don't think this is worth the discontinued prices of upwards of $100/bottle, but could be worth it under $40. If found around $20, it's a steal for simple vetiver lovers. I would highly recommend CDG Vettiveru 2 as an upgrade pick for this, rather than pay discontinued prices. Very similar with the citrus, white flowers, and grassy vetiver, but Vettiveru has a bit more complexity, and while still gender neutral has a bit more earthy tones with the base cedar/woody notes that bring it a touch more in the masculine direction.

Great fresh vetiver and ideal for those rainy/damp summer days. Sunrise is the perfect name for this beauty. It's similar to the king of all vetivers (Guerlain) but less dry and performance is not as good. Don't wear it much because I already have too many vetiver scents. P.S. Sunrise Vetiver is discontinued so ebay hawks are asking $90+ for it. Do NOT pay that! My bottle was $20 about 5 years ago and that's about right price for this scent. If you want to spend $90+ on a vetiver scent go for the Guerlain or the Grey Vetiver. If you insist on a discontinued vetiver hunt down Vetiver Hombre because that's worth every penny!
