Frank No.1

This is a classy, sophisticated, clean and sensual fragrance which is extremely well blended and quite unique. Opening with a lusty fruity blast of lime, bergamot and pink pepper, it's a fresh and clean fragrance with a spiciness from the cardamom and the cloves. The notes for are well blended and in the heart there is a lovely juxtaposition between sweeter notes like violet, iris and lavender - all purple flowers which I appreciate in fragrances - and the more sour geranium, juniper, tomato leaf and clary sage. The base is a sweet woody bend with moss and leather. It lasts for quite some time although in the drydown it does become a sweet yet spicy tobacco and one can still scent the lavender and juniper which both uplifts and gives it a masculine kick. It's more masculine than unisex and reminds me of the type of fragrance one would apply after showering. It smells fresh and clean and has just the right touch of spiciness and leather to suit a mature and confidant man. It might have benefited from some sandalwood in the base notes and maybe more citrus in the opening with neroli and orange blended in with grapefruit and pineapple to provide even more of a fruity citrus blast for the first 20-30 minutes. This fragrance is definitely suited for the office and corporate climates yet because it's also quite unique it could easily become a man's signature scent. It's best suited to cooler weather and the day time. It does seem a bit pricey but it's a complex well-blended fragrance that's uplifting and somewhat exotic whilst being warmly seductive and masculine. I keep wanting to smell it - it's quite intoxicating! This is one of those fragrances people seem to either love or find run-of-the-mill. I personally love it and enjoy it when my husband wears this!.

I really like this one, particularly the start/top. A rich, fruity, citrusy punch that just makes me smile and think "yum". Bright, natural lime and bergamot. Wonderful on my skin. The drydown starts almost immediately and sets in motion flowery (lavender, iris, geranium) mids. Throughout there are spices that elevate the flowers and tame the fruits, like pink pepper, licorice, cloves and sage. But there's also some tanginess, possibly brought on by the tomato leaf and juniper. Suffice to say, this is complex, and masterfully blended. The citruses are not too sour. The tang is not too tangy. The flowers are not too medicinal. I think they all work with each other to prevent anything from becoming too "much". It finally all settles into what I can only describe as a delicate (maybe too soft) green fougere with hints of a rich wood like sandalwood. Overall, it's kind of genius. My biggest gripe is that once it starts drying down, the skin scent, still quite pleasant, just doesn't project or last. Once past the initial punch, it seems to vapor off into near-nothingness. If this thing lasted, I would absolutely make it a signature. If it was just a bit less expensive, I'd keep dousing myself with it throughout the day and make it work. People seem to be really blown away by Frank #2, so that is 100% on my list of frags to try. Because for me this one was almost a total winner and it's clear to me these folks know what they're doing.

This is actually a Chypre, and not a Fougere, as the classical structure and traits are evident which make this one citrusy, woodsy and floral. It's a lot similar to Christopher Street but a bit more sophisticated and aromatic. It also strongly resembles al03 biehl but is much better composed and chic. The review below actually did a fantastic job describing the scent. The scent starts off with lime, bergamot, and spices, wrapped with subtle hints of smoke. After a few minutes, iris and violet, along with a lovely licorice accord join in, producing something calm and soothing -- before ultimately intertwining beautifully over an elegant leather and warm woodsy base. All in all, very classy and elegant. This, by the way, shares no similarities to La Nuit, nor Invasion for that matter.

The black currant open in the form of the cassis is excellent but fleeting.On my nose the sandalwood in this is dominant and takes over. Personally I wish the top notes fought a little harder to stick around longer. This original Frank Los Angeles is much different than the more popular Frank No. 2. Note: This review is of the Frank No. 1 fragrance that was originally introduced in 2004 and has since been replaced by a new Frank No. 1 that has entirely different notes.

A great fougere, and a great high quality alternative to much more expensive competitors on that shelf. It's definitely not a cheapie, but still, it's 3 times less expensive (per ml) than MDCI Invasion Barbare, with which it shares strong similarities. A beautiful creation by Duchaufour, and a win for Luckyscent owner's brand. Spring, 30+

This scent is so fantastic, original, unique and fascinating! It took me a few wears to totally get it. Was a blind buy btw. I thought it was ok at first spray/ wear and a few hours later, i realized i was getting obssessed. It has now been a few days and i cannot help wearing it every day. Love it!

I dont know why I get a sense of a banana scent, it must be the matte and Cloves with the citrus.....it smells great. I love FLA 2 but this one is just as good for a different setting It does have a decent resemblance to Ormond Jayne for Men. But not the same and you can own both.

This is wonderful, quite fresh, refreshing and addicting. The cardamon-clove-lavender-juniper combination is stunning and you can't stop sniffing it. The licorice at the base really cements everything. I have to say this is a real gem. Full-bottle worthy.

Frank Los Angeles before it was discontinued and changed dramatically : A blend of over 100 essential oils???? I believe it! It is so unique. This is the KING of the natural smelling, green, fresh, floral tea-type colognes. A slight hint of grapefruit, not much lemon at all. There is a very light and elegant treatment of the citrus notes. They are supportive and at times only lightly noticeable. As it mellows there is a tea note paired with a floral note which I'm assuming is the marigold but it's very light and once again a supportive note. It also has a clean & wet feeling in the middle notes but not a aqua cologne type of wet. It's natural water - cool, shimmering and clean. A wonderfully fresh & clear yet complex fragrance that suggests a just out of the shower wet cleanliness yet is complex with nice natural notes and an airiness that's always evident throughout. If you're someone who wants a fresh natural fragrance without an overplayed citrus and almost no contemporary aqua type notes this is one to put on the 'to test' list. A unique scent, nothing else smells like it. Highly recommend. Get it while you still can. EDIT : The new #1 has Nothing in common with the old version in this review ... why use the same name???

I never tried the Frank Los Angeles Frank No. 1 original release from 2004 but ordered the trio of Nos 1,2,3 in 2016 and in trying No. 1, I get a classic fougere, a refined barbershop scent that could easily be a man's signature scent. The opening mix of green and citrus dries down into a masculine mix of tobacco and leather, a relatively safe combination that does have a very slight but remote sweetness. I'd use this more during the day than at night, as it's not too heavy or distractive. It's a little too borderline to be one that I'd reach for often and frequently as a signature scent that I could make my own, certainly not along the lines of a Chanel Pour Monsieur or Dior Eau Sauvage, but it's an option that some men might find to be a good fit for them. At $130 for 100ml EDP, as the online reviewer Brad puts it, it's appropriately priced for a small house, but in my opinion, it's pricey if you don't find it exceptional. 7 out of 10

Can't get around the fact that I like this fragrance it has that Herbal essences shampoo (not that I've smelled it in years) vibe to it. Angelic seed, floral notes...it's pretty nondescript to me, it has a freshness but I can't say I get mint from it? The opening is a juicy realisic orangey/bergamot to me but that doesn't last long before the shampoo comes on strong. It's a very clean smell and doesn't offend me but couldn't wear this as it's not what I define as fine fragrance.

Minty, grapefruit, tea opening!!! Really nice! The grapefruit eventually disappears and into the drydown the tea and mint combine and mix with what I believe must be the angelica. Its a very slightly sweet at this point. Still nice and definitely different. I like it but don't really think its anything too great. I get some fir notes if I exhale onto my skin.

Doesn't smell quite as green as the notes and the juice would lead you to believe, and theres an almost vanilla like note that seems to subdue the green. I would say the iris and leather notes are more unique and there's sort of a generic greenness running throughout. There's nothing really wrong with this fragrance, but nothing really to exciting either.

Sweet fruit and ginger. Too sweet for me.

Number 1 opens very sweet and fruity, with a noticeable berry like accord. It feels dense, almost heavy and is interesting in the opening. However, once it reaches the dry down, it is sweet spicy, but not very interesting. I wish the tomato leaf was stronger and that it felt greener, because then it really would be a contender for a Spring favorite. As it is, there are lots of green fragrances I'd rather wear. After a few hours it's gone and it's hard to pick up. I think the best way to describe the way I feel about it is, a shrug. It's ok, but not amazing.

This is very well blended and at first I thought this was a mellow aromatic with some coffee and realized how wrong I was . This is a wonderful tea fragrance with some bright earthness and some coffee rind or skin This really unique and makes you think and smell it again. That being said it is easy to wear I find this unisex, but slightly masculine reminds me of spilled coffee in a kids toy section of a store Artistic, but I don't think I will buy have a sniff

A fresh, spicy masculine. Opens with a spicy burst of citrus, dries down to a sweet, tobacco-like spice, with a bit of zippiness from the pine-like juniper. A touch of soapiness from the lavender keeps this firmly in the masculine realm. Nothing amazing - it's like a lot of other masculine fragrances - but likeable and enjoyable enough. However... this smells a LOT like Lanvin's Avant Garde, which you can get for under $20 at Fragrancenet.

Fresh yet robust green/spicy scent with a noticeable but not obtrusive sweetness. Smells very authentic, high quality, well blended, and generally pleasant, albeit a bit soulless in my opinion. Can be dressed up or dressed down and would be perfect for a spring day. Like all Frank LA scents, No. 1 has a very modern, urban, youthful yet mature character. I really like the presentation as well. Can't hate it, but can't truly love it either.

Maybe I would have like this more if Frank Los Angeles #2 didn't raise the bar so high. I didn't find this fragrance to be totally male if you ask me. This kinda reminded me of something soft from Jo Malone or even L'Artisan Parfumeur. This comes off as a smooth spring time aromatic scent that will garner a few compliments here and there. Not bad but not great. The aroma justifies its $65 price tag.

Clean, fresh, and breezy, really great for spring! Unfortunately it's so light and fades to almost nothing really fast, but YMMV.....I guess that's just the nature of these particular notes. I do love how this smells, but Frank No. 2 is my favorite. Edit....to elaborate...I wish I got a little more clove and sandalwood, that might give the scent more oomph, but then again might change its character.
