Frank No.2

I love this. When I wear it i feel cozy, sexy and a little dangerous (must be that fir / cognac combination). I am absolutely crazy about the spicy plummy woody top note, but when it softens, at about 15-20 minutes in, wow....it becomes a skin hugging scent my chemistry seems made for...which has been an uphill battle for me. This? It's all warmth and enticing. I love to wear this then take the subway. Every single time the man nearest to me inhales, stops for a second (like it's something he can't quite place), then seems to go off into his own thoughts, memories, daydreams. As for what it does for me? I'm transported to a heaven where you find your most treasured friends filled with secret smiles and old jokes, fantastic conversation, good scotch, spiced nog, a crackling fire and freshly roasted coffee all on a warm night with the salty pine air from Big Sur gently blowing in from large open windows. Sigh!

I look at the notes for this and think 'How did it go wrong?' but unfortunately it does. Something fundamentally wrong with the composition in my opinion, like a mixture of oriental and fougere type elements. I think the deep, boozy powder doesn't mix with the fir and lavender in fact the combo is strange. The opening is very nice and doesn't really hint at what it's going to drydown to, it's bergamot, fir and feels classic and masculine. Then the drydown is...well a bit of a let down. I get a tonka bean type creaminess, musk and lavender which just feels a bit done and reminds me of lots of fragrances. I hate to naysay this fragrance because it's okay and I could understand it having appeal but Frank fragrances are very average affairs from the two I've tried. Not daring enough to catch my attention I'm afraid.

LANIER's review is spot on. This is autumn in LA. There is something about the composition that reminds me of the California sycamore trees that line the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley. The air is bone dry and thin, the sun is setting earlier and earlier, and the holidays are around the corner. The leaves on the deciduous trees turn brown and fall creating a dusty, dried leaf aroma in the air that gets kicked up by the Santa Ana's. This is such a nostalgic and comfortable fragrance to me. I'm very impressed and very glad someone was able to capture this.

It is wide held belief that Chypre Palatin is a Masterpiece. I agree with this statement and the much deserved accolades. But, If I had to choose one fragrance - it would be this fougere. This is a rare gem also by the same master perfumer. The luxurious ingredients are trumped only by the smell and blending. The plumb and lavender blend to create a smooth and sweet gem. Maple is very rare in fine perfumery and creates a super unique addition that only Bertrand could think of. 4.5/5

At the time of this writing 72 people have voted on this fragrance. That's simply not enough people weighing in on this fragrance for as solid as it is. There should be many more reviews as well. I've tried Frank No. 2 and the original Frank (No. 1). I like both. I pick up a creamy goodness in No. 2. The cognac booziness appeals to me as well. I was fortunate enough to pick up a bottle from a friend for $75. Glad to have added it to my collection.

Very nice scent, has a very neo-classic vibe. Has me smelling my wrist every 5 minutes. Very unique, lavender softened by plum. Lavender seems to have an after tastes to me that's bitter. But in this blend, the lavender is shown and the after taste is muted due to the plum and spice that rounds it out. Very nice scent, I got it due to Michael Kors for man is off the charts in price (the vintage for men) so I figured I'd get this. I chose well!

I had to delete my review Bc it was a first impression and I didn't care for lavender much. Fast forward to one year later and a huge niche collection, my nose has really come to appreciate this and mdci invasion barbare. Floris santal also has a similar vibe, but this... This is a great . I find this to be a clean masculine barbershop niche fragrance that's signature scent worthy. 9/10

Update 2 years in: I went from Like to Love and i now routinely wear it in cold weather or at night. It is quite original and refined, yet deep and strong. Very nice, fresh, deep lavender Opens very green and lovely Dry down is more like a soft lavender It resembles Monsillage's Aviation Club, which has an amazing opening btw

Michael Kors + Allure Pour Homme + plums = Frank No. 2. I really love this scent. The great this to me is that is seems a little "drier", if that makes any sense, than either of those two. It also seems more wearable as well. Definitely for cooler weather.

This thing is damn good. Very masculine with a barbershop vibe. A guy in a leather jacket to dressed down can wear this well. Season: Fall time/cool/colder times. Will be in my permanent collection.

I got to admit that this surprised me. It is very fresh and green, light and unassuming. It feels familiar. Refined and masculine. Worth checking out and very affordable.

Died and gone to heaven for the plum & cognac mixture. The only bottle of this stature I sprung for without hesitation, and find myself considering it, daily.

You're basically gonna smell like teak wood. Soft, warm, nostalgic.

I started with Frank No. 1, and I definitely get that DNA here, but instead of leaning into ripe, punchy, bright fruits, berries and flowers in the opening, this leans more darkly into plum, lavender and booze - making for a more masculine fougere. Spicy and clean, this strikes me as a great after-shower cologne. Both fragrances suffer a bit in the longevity department, but Frank No. 2 fares better, with a longer-lasting spiciness and woodiness that stays for a while. After the initial punch, No. 1 dries down into pleasant, bright fruits and citruses and then dissipates altogether, at least on my skin. So that makes this the better value for me, although I prefer the riper scent of No. 1. But here, maple and teak are not at all an unpleasant place to land. In fact, a very pleasant, warm place to land. While No. 1 is a trip through spring, No. 2 is a trip straight to fall. Overall I've been impressed with both of the Franks, and hope to get my nose on No. 3 some day. I wonder if we're heading to winter with that one?

Frank no. 2. is interesting in that, it gives me this personality of a easy going guy in a nice, brown leather jacket, and blue jeans. It's defiantly made for men! The fragrance is not designer nor does it seem fully niche. This was a type of frag that was missing from my collection. it has medium performance, but over spraying would give me a touch of headache! It dries down to a nice snuggly, skin scent! It is pleasant and well balanced you really could wear this anytime, although cool, damp, spring, air seems best. The best parts of this scent for me is the comforting, dryer sheet overtone with the note of fir, a particular spice, and a faint smell of the hot rocks. My favorite parts are a little plain, but there is a true personality behind it. For me the composition leans in a slightly green direction. It is a scent that some ladies may like to smell on a man, but I believe in it enough that I would wear it regardless, because I know that the scent is decent!

Woody, floral, plumy and lavender. Floralbomb opening followed by a woody drydown. Powdery, smooth, warm and slightly sweet. Weak longevity and sillage for a woody floral. Unique and unisex scent but has a feminine opening due to the floral notes. This is kind of a new catagory for me as it gives off "feminine barbershop" energy. Pretty nice and mature tbh. Dior suavage + Dakkar noir = this bottle in the best way possible.

A powdery soap. Clean spice. Bergamote and lavender to start. Nice but very unoriginal. The whole composition is beautiful and moves from one stage to the next smoothly, there's no clash of notes, one by one all the notes present themselves and leave room for the next. At the same time this may well pass by an aftershave scent or a CK creation. Far from memorable.

To me this is a bit warm, a bit sweet, and also a bit sour. A baked synthetic plum with a slightly conventional fresh aromatic backbone full of lavender. As it dries it does become a bit boozier. I don’t get coffee. All of that being said, this smells rather good actually. It might be a cousin to John Varvatos Vintage. Fougere with fruit syrup. 8.1/10

This is a much more wearable rendition of the original Michael Kors for men. Much more refined, smoother, and not as intense or dated smelling as the Kors offering. Though there's no tobacco in the note breakdown, the overall scent does a great job at creating a similar effect with accords like teakwood, maple, and fir resin.

Interesting fragrance, this one piqued my interest due to the comparison to Michael Kors and a few other fougeres. The plum and cognac notes come and go quickly. I don’t really get coffee. The dry-down is a nice combination of wood and musk. There is a slight sweetness, but it does not distinctively smell of maple.

Good balance between complexity and curb appeal. Not one-dimensional at all. There is enough space in this scent for a lot of accords to coexist and I like that. Easy to consider a full bottle since more affordable than most.

Frank of Los Angeles No. 2 is a pretty lavender, backed up by plum. I couldn't smell the teak that's in it. This was elegant and pleasing, and worthy of notice.

Good fragrance, just wish it lasted longer on my skin. Too many other great fragrances out there to own instead.

I really quite liked it at first. The combo of lavender, bergamot, coffee, wood, and cognac is fascinating and works. Even with it's interesting combo of aromas, Frank No.2 is ultimately a bit casual and comfortable, and with it not being a particularly great performer, after an hour so, its just plain not very noticeable. So despite its curious opening, this one ends up being an inoffensive softie. I envisioned this as a going-about-town scent, but realistically ain't nobody going to smell it outside, possibly including you. It might work as an office scent, however.

Ultimately very generic 💈 dna. I enjoy the subtle cleanness ( like a moist fresh shaved face ). The lingering touch of sweetness (not fruity, probably from the fir or coriander properties) I don’t care for. It’s missing that good quality sandalwood aroma. Smelling this for extended periods of time will give me a headache.. it’s just too much of your typical everyday Shaving soaps & aftershave man scent for me personally. Zero booze Zero coffee Zero fruit Definitely not worth any hype.

The perfect example of the type of fragrance that makes people say, "Niche isn't worth it, most are just marked up designer fragrances." This is the quintessential, typical masculine cool weather scent that you'd smell on a dude wearing a leather jacket who had severely oversprayed. It smells okay (not a favorite scent profile for me), but it's been done a million times over. We need to wait at least 30 years for this DNA to smell at all interesting.

Opening: a spicy green aromatic, a masculine fougere style scent. A bit soapy too. Drydown: green is going strong, with the addition of a more pronounced lavender and booze note I imagine a large percentage of men liking Frank 2—and most importantly, wearing comfortably. A scent for the average Dad. Not a bad fragrance but nothing special either.

A generic masculine-leaning fragrance, not very strong, with a musty (coriander?) quality. The notes made this sound awesome, but I didn't get any plum, cognac, coffee, or teak. This dried down to a slightly unpleasant musk and nothing else. Not for me.

First of all, death to all 2ml vial samples. That's not a knock on the fragrance, I just spilled most of it on my wrist. So take my review of the opening with a huge grain of salt: it was very off-putting. Perhaps it would just be off-putting, but I'm not going to knock this one too much for that. As it settles, the balsam fir, cognac, and plum take center stage. Very mature, Santa in a trenchcoat. It's a really odd mix. The maple nervously peaks at the audience from behind the curtain, waiting for Act 2. The floor is made of teak wood and it is gorgeous, probably my favorite note in this one. I find this one more pleasant as the balsam fir fades. However, what this does in the air is great and the fir is a part of that. On the skin, it seems to bully the other actors, but in the air, its amenable and on-cue. Instead of grabbing attention for itself, it calls attention to the rest of the cast. It is my least favorite note, yet, once its gone Frank no.2 becomes forgettable. I realize this play is called Potpurri Becomes Him. I thought this rogue cast would surprise me at some point but the plot goes nowhere. It doesn't know who it is or what it wants to be, and it suffers for it. I came for the plum and the cognac, but they had bit roles. I was expecting Rihanna and instead got 'Rochelle Rochelle' Bette Midler but it wasn't bad enough for me to leave the theatre. And that's my fault, because someone definitely dropped a deuce. The fragrance is so 'OK' that I dislike it, partially because I thought it had some promise. To be fair, I don't like this scent profile: the barbershop/fougere/manly man type. If you do, you may love this. Trying my best to be impartial, there's nothing distinct enough about this to deserve space on a shelf but if you just want a manly scent to remind people that you're over 40 and a man, look alive! Good sillage though.

Opens with a burst of bergamot and to be honest leaves me with a feeling of being nothing special. The bergamot does disappear completely for me and it develops into a lavender fragrance surrounded by plum and coriander, with a faint coffee note. The coriander gives it a distinct spice which I like a lot. To be honest, without it it would be a bland fragrance. It’s not a bad fragrance, it’s quite nice but not bottle worthy for me, especially for its price. It’s not loud and I couldn’t see it being offensive to many people. Moderate projection. Definitely a cooler weather type of fragrance. Sample before buying this one.

Creamy fruit and smoke. Too sweet for me.

There is an angry wind from the north that comes down the canyons of Los Angeles. The wind from the Mohave is as hot as the devils breath and licks relentlessly at windows and doors pushing its sandy heat through any available crack. It has been known to drive men mad and women to wanton acts of murder. It rides on the backs of rabid dogs as they scrounge the dry river beds of the Valley for something to bite. It is relentless and even as it leaves the land scraping over Long Beach, Laguna and Doheny out over the waters of the Pacific, not even the great ocean can cool its searing anger. It is called the Santa Ana and it is something to behold. From the moment I felt the touch of Frank No.2 by Frank Los Angeles on my skin I understood this fragrance as an old friend. In this unique perfume there are the familiar smells I recall from my youth in Los Angeles. When that old wind begins to howl in the opening it is rich with plum, bergamot and white Lavender, the smell of the fragrant gardens of Southern California. In the heart notes of cognac, coffee, coriander are a boozy mix of the night before as it meets the rich breakfast aromas of the morning. They do their job to enrich this fragrance and give it a creamy liqueur feeling. How about a shot of cognac in your cappuccino sir? Further into the scent the wind begins to build and heat up. The resins in Frank No.2 smell to me of sun burned rocks in the desert. The wind from the Mohave picks up that smell and carries it over the mountains where it marries with the aroma of fur trees and other woods. As it blows out of the canyon you are engulfed by the power and force of this aromatic wind. The dry down is so smoky and comfortable that you just want to linger there for hours. Frank No.2 is very bold and in your face but in a welcoming open gregarious way that belies its dark noir undercurrent. It is inviting and cozy on the surface but beware the aggressive danger it hides. And indeed though it is listed as a masculine fragrance the plum notes give it a sweet touch that would work well on a woman of urbane sophistication and style that carries danger in her purse like a derringer pistol. It projects well and lasts about six hours on my skin. This warm wind from the desert has been known to dive men mad and women to wanton acts of murder, so if you can’t be good, then go mad with Frank Los Angeles. FOUR GOLD STARS ****

The second entry by Frank Los Angeles is definitely more discussed than the first. No. 2 is a fascinating combination of bergamot, lavender, cognac, coffee, plum, maple, teak, and musk. The opening certainly focuses on the bergamot and lavender, and the rest of the experience is dominated by the coffee, cognac, and plum, rounded out with teak and musk to give it a smooth finish. Lanier Smith points out that it's seemingly an oriental and an aromatic, and I would further complicate it by offering that that lavender makes it a bit of a fougere---certainly not as much as Frank No. 1, but in the vicinity nonetheless. Performance is decent but is arguably slightly disappointing for its pricing, the same as No. 1, at $130 for 100ml (EDP), so you'd really need like it a lot in order to buy it. While I don['t personally know of any similar fragrances (the coffee/lavender vibe is the prominent balance of the discontinued Armani Attitude, for one), several reviewers describe this as being close to Michael Kors' Michael for Men, though I'm not tried it in recent memory. Still, this could be a good buy, signature scent, and one trick pony for some men. I'll have to give it further thought as far as buying a bottle. 8 out of 10

A night of drinks followed by a morning run to a coffee shop for a latte and maple & pecan danish. This is seriously one of the best frags many people have never smelled. It opens up a little sharp(reminds me of the smell of opening a bottle of whiskey) After 5-10 mins it settles into a slight woody/earthy/creamy scent reminescent of a coffee shop counter lined with pastries. The musk and plum add to the creamy sweet dynamic without making it overly sweet as i have noticed wih frags that contain vanilla or honey. It goes from a swanky dark whiskey tavern to a coffee shop on Saturday morning. Delicious frag that isnt overly heavy or sweet making it very wearable and versatile. This the ideal for the fall through early spring but would easily work on a cool summer night. It is warm and inviting and the projection is at that sweet spot where people around yyou smell a whiff an lean into get a better smell. This is my go to scent for the fall . Scores: Sillage- 7/10 Longevity- 8.5/10 Versitility- 8.5/10 Quality- 10/10 Value- 10/10 Overall- 9/10 I would love to say blind buy worthy but i would honestly rather keep this on a secret!

There are layers to this. I feel like there is a barbershop soapy classic layer, a woody musky layer, and then also a bit of a sweet layer. It all comes together surprisingly well, creating something that smells classic but with a modern twist. If I had to name it, I would call it woodsy barbershop, but I also feel like that doesn't capture it. I get echos of 80s powerhouses with the fir balsam, lavender, and soap, but I also get woody citrus notes, and then the fruity sweet accords show up with a side of coffee. And somehow this all works really well. Several reviewers have called this generic, and I kind of understand that sentiment because the individual elements are very familiar. However, I have tried nothing else that actually smells like this. I have tried fragrances that overlap with pieces but nothing that smells anything like the sum total. I have worn this several times and every time I am left wondering if I love this or am just intrigued by the novelty. I still don't know. I definitely enjoy it each time I wear it.

Love the composition but ultimately I will not purchase a bottle because it comes off a typical masculine fragrance. If I came across a put together middle aged man I'd think yup he smells exactly how I'd guess he would. However it must be said he would indeed smell amazing. This isn't necessarily a negative. If you're looking for a subdued yet beautifully blended formulation for everyday wear it would be hard not to recommend this. The opening to me is surprisingly rich. You might think you purchased a boozy-sweet-woody type fragrance. An effect which is amplified by the plum. Within the hour though it transitions into quite an outdoorsy smell. The fir in this is exquisite and the highlight of the composition- creating the sensation of walking out on a cool morning by alpine lake. It is however smoothed out by a lavender which creates a barbershop accord.

The scent specially at the beginning is dominated by a lavender note which is warm and aromatic; and slightly herbal and bitter. This lavender note is accompanied by a lush fruity note (Plum) and has a boozy facet (Cognac). One note that plays a more important role on my skin than the votes here suggest, is coffee. I think this Lavender combination smells familiar and this concept was used in a few popular mainstream scents in the past. Overall, it is a nice and pleasant scent and I enjoy it specially in the dry down. But it's not an original concept and smells a bit generic to my nose. Longevity is OK, but I don't get much projection after the first two hours. Because of my personal preferences, I won't add this to my collection. But I would recommend it to anyone interested in a warm lavender scent.

Excitingly assertive initially! Pleasant aromas of Plum and Lavender. After @ 1-2hrs the Fir and Cognac rose to the occasion. Around 6hrs later a comforting powdery yet balanced fragrance of Bergamot and Teak Wood have quieted my soul. This is a very confident juice. Further disclosure compels me to reveal the application process was at pulse-points via fingertip. I'm applying via atomizer next time and expect a much more defined description with a higher sillage. Update: Applied via aerator and I must confess it broadened the notes widely. The dry down remained salient as hoped and made me sad when it was over. Definitely one for the shelf.

Frank No. 2 - Frank Los Angeles is an aromatic fougere that is bracing, smooth, boozy and resinous. This an outstanding fragrance that includes some of my favorite notes: cognac, fir, coffee and plum. Decidedly masculine, Frank No. 2 has signature scent potential. Frank No. 2 is a largely linear fragrance which is fortunate. The plum, cognac and coffee notes blend so well that my nose would be miffed if they went their separate ways. Frank No. 2 lasts 8+ hours with good projection. Frank No. 2 is worthy of more attention. Excellent.

Man this stuff is good! I mean really?!! At $65 dollars i dare you to take the Pepsi challenge and search for a better deal for a niche product. On the other hand, the bottle design has a debilitate presentation and could prevent one from taking that leap of faith. This is a full bodied musky fragrance that leans completely toward the masculine side of things. Not bad Frank, not bad... Update: Just found out that frank "remixed" the bottle size. You can now purchase this in a 100ml as opposed to the 65ml. *BLIND BUY WORTHY AWARD*

A mess ! Right out the bottle it belts you with synthetic notes. I have a " wait I've smelled this before moment " then I realize what it is. It's the same synthetic used in my bottle of Bogart Pour Homme $20. The only difference is the BPH has a nice tobacco and cherry smell to it. Frank 2 is just the synthetic note. How odd that people rave about this fragrance. Zero stars from me. Update: Finally over an hour later a light mixed berries note shows up. Really low end juice....sorry people.

I bought this for my husband about a year ago, and thought it was a great, well balanced masculine fragrance. I would wear it myself but things tend to go sweeter on me. It is a fabulous cold weather fragrance and lucky for me our winters are long. It is perfect as is, but we've also layered it with Creme de Cuir BDK...leather and vanilla with all of this Frank is magical also. This is a great all purpose masculine scent that is very well blended. We will always have this in our collection.

In my opinion, this has sadly been lost to a bad reformulation. My husband wore this years ago and once his bottle was out, I patiently waited until Luckyscent had it back in stock. I should have known better!! New packaging is great but the scent is not the same. Seems less plush and more synthetic - like a skeleton of the original. I'm sure this would still smell quite nice to anyone who hasn't smelled the original, but for my hubs, just doesn't do the trick anymore.

Love this. As others have mentioned, Frank No. 2 smells like autumn. October in the midwest US in my case. There's something a little melancholy yet warming about this scent. Woody, dry, a bit spicy... I feel like I've come across another fragrance that has a similar vibe, but I can't quite put my finger on which one. Maybe Cooper Square by Bond No. 9? I'm going to be really tempted to invest in a full bottle of this when the leaves start to turn. Good stuff.

Love this so much! Reading the description, I was surprised at how much I like it....sometimes sweet notes stand out in my nose but nothing in this scent stands out to me above anything else. I really don't detect white musk, balsam, plum....or anything else...it's just blended together into this warm, spicy wonderfulness. I agree with 'unmistakably masculine', but at the same time it doesn't scream 'dood-fume' to me....somehow it's just right. Love it.

Opening: Very soapy and floral. Lots of lavender. Smells generic. Drydown: This is where it shines. Boozy with a sweet spice. That generic scent has become familiar, like a fatherly figure (cozy and very masculine). Nothing distinct, but a good all-around fragrance.
