Bois Blanc

[Feb. 2023] Lightly smoked sweet orange rind. Its sweetness is reminiscent of pulp juice from biting the fruit a tad bit. Not too sweet, not too bitter either, with air of weight enough that I enjoy the fragrance from a distance of my arm. The rosemary, sage, and eucalyptus give a light wood lock / tiger balm oil impression without it smelling like a hippie shop and more akin to extracted plant oil thanks to the balance of notes in this fragrance. Smells natural perhaps with the addition of cade oil. The ambroxan, cedarwood, and ginger work together to sell the impression of lightly smoked wood. Enjoyably fruit-like, but with enough woody bite as this is not tutti-fruity and the smoke leans this towards masculine and natural. Lasts appropriately for 4-6 hours and does not develop as much unless a breeze wafts outdoors and triggers the eucalyptus effect a bit. The warmer the skin, the more wood-like/smoked it smells. Not fatiguing unlike my a few of previous favourites reviewed (and I stopped looking at them because I'm no longer as wide-eyed or humored about fragrances, but I still love fragrances very much.) I enjoy it.

After smelling close to 40 to 50 various niche fragrances at a local shop I went home with 3 and this was one of them. Simply put I love it, it really is a gorgeously seductive fresh woodsy smell. I remember I wore AF woods years ago and loved it, sadly discontinued and while I haven’t smelled that in two decades I think this has a similar effect on me. I can’t really compare it to anything I own at the moment. I can see it changing with different body chemistry. I’m not one to pick out notes but it’s very woody and it’s a very addictive smell, cool bottle too with a nice wooden cap. I can see it lingering due to the ambroxan which I don’t normal love but whatever makes this work I love. I am not the biggest fan of cedar, like Bentley intense or Quorum silver, I own both but rarely wear them, Bois Blanc on the other hand I will be wearing this daily, I love it. Anne-Sophie did an amazing job creating Bois Blanc it’s beautiful! I am happy I found it.

Truly one that celebrates timberland with plume. Bois Blanc opens with zesty mandarin and bitter orange notes seasoned in the herbaceous camphor aroma of rosemary, eucalyptus and ginger that illuminates a corpulent heart of creamy Virginia cedar hinted in the customary sycophancy of violet leaf and sage that takes the spruce half towards the beautifully charred, the tempered warm dry tarmac of guaiac and cade, adding an arcadian touch to a plush composition, that is naturally dry yet richly inviting. Overall, Bois Blanc has gentlemanly traditional aura alongside a timeless vogue; one that emanates with maturity, quietude and politesse... Simply, elegant!

Lovely, relatively fresh woody spicy scent with a lot of nuances. The usual Frapin "EAU DE COLOGNE" style performance but the composition is just exquisite! To me, it reminds me of several woody fresh Creeds: Spice and Wood, Mayfair, Cedre Blanc and Royal Oud. Not directly but more like borrowing pages/chapters from Creed's books. Great office scent for a man, a little on the mature side. Longevity is 5-6 hours, so mid-day re-spray will be necessary. Highly recommend testing this one out, as long as you do not expect beastly performance (which none of the Frapin fragrances really are!!!).

Honestly my first smokey base fragrance and it got me absolutely mesmerized. The smokey note made this so addictive to me that it got the fragrance in the race to my signature perfume. It kinda has me thinking of smoked wood after using a chimney and projects some kind of confort. I had people call this addicting in the sense that they can't name the thing they like about it but there is something that makes them keep smelling and smelling.

Amazing fragrance. Smooth, creamy, woody, can be a signature scent. Smells expensive.

I agree with Dutchfrag that this wears like a 'molecule'-fragrance. It is more an effect than a scent, at least on my skin. The name covers the content; Bois Blanc smells like very light wood. Creamy, comforting, a little sweet and.....well......woody. It is pretty enough, but the piramide has me completely puzzled.....I get nothing resinous, coniferous, herbacious or citrussy. Actually, I can not smell much at all..... I'm thinking this is mostly synthetic woods (Timbersilk, Cedramber, Iso-E, that lot) with some side notes to make things just a bit more interesting. If I try very hard I can detect some orange, some sage and something remotely ambery /vanillic in there. Sillage is ultra discreet and that should have been the end of it for me, but I have to admit that there is more to Bois Blanc than just that. This fragrance really melts into skin and especially fabric, and lingers for days! And even though it doesn't smell of anything much, the effect is incredibly friendly, comforting, cocooning and long lasting. If it doesn't add drama or kick to your day, it certainly delivers a lovely 'je ne sais quoi'. An aura if you want. Perfect for people who don't like loud fragrances, or for occasions where more present perfumes would be out of place.

Gorgeous aromatic woody composition. The perfume opens with aromatic notes of ginger, rosemary, eucalyptus and orange. The heart is cedar, sage and violet leaf. The perfume settles on a bed of guaiac wood, cade and ambroxan. Reminds me of the type of scent worn for a country club or polo event by a gentleman of distinction and some maturity. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and good longevity. A sleek, sophisticated and seductive perfume. Enjoy!

I like this one. Very clean woods with warm spices. It gives that dry, dusty feeling that I got from Creed Centaurus. To me it's surprisingly best for cooler weather. I don't really get the bitter orange except for maybe at the very top. Definitely a masculine scent, and could see this working well on a tough and rugged man. Nothing that blows my mind but it's actually really good and would consider purchasing.

Piney, herbal, woody scent. Kind of cold and crisp; there is a sharpness from the ginger and eucalyptus which comes out strongly for me. It does warm up over time, but still stays at arms length. Like getting a breeze from a forest rather than being in the middle of it. It would be a good professional scent for a man, although it can be unisex.

This is a nice spicy woody scent. Opens up citrusy fresh and a little smoky green from the Eucalyptus ( I think). Dries down to a nice woody, spicy scent with ambroxan in the back. It reminds me a little of Déclaration de Cartier (woods and bitter orange). Worth sampling.

Testing blind this comes off as a soft leathery and woodsy, with herbal elements. A bit of spice like pimento cheese comes in. It was pretty mellow until I started moving around which spurred some dried ashy elements. It pretty much is a nice, but not too exciting aromatic woodsy vibe and I feel it could use a bit more amplitude in its character. Feels a little generic mountain man. Looking at the notes now there's no surprises. The ginger is more prominent in the late opening and hangs for a bit but leaves the trail before high noon. It does last pretty long if you're okay with soft wood by the end of the day. It's masculine, but isn't overt. Overall, it's nice but I need more romance and less independent lone mountain man picking herbs because it gets lonely in the middle of high desert.

Bois Blanc is an easy to wear, non descript woody-herbal scent. It’s pleasant, with Rosemary taking center stage in the opening, leaning masculine. I love guaiac wood and that note is turned down in this mix, or possibly drowned out by the other notes. I don’t hate it but I also am not compelled to try it again. There’s a familiarity that works against the composition for consideration in my 200 plus perfume collection. And I agree that Bois Blanc behaves more like a body spray after the brief opening dissipates.

I could read off the notes and pretend I caught all that, but in truth my impressions were a lot more limited. In the opening, all I got wasa blend of smoky, pungent aromatics that is strongly reminiscent of cumin. In the background there are woody elements, creamy musk and ambroxan shows up every now and again (with its famous noseblinding potential). After looking at the note breakdown, I guess cognitively it makes sense that smoky, bacon-y guaiac wood and cade plus fresh aromatics would yield something in a cumin direction. But I'm more interested in appreciating fragrances by their apparent virtue alone, not after doing reverse analysis. Performance is poor.

Could barely smell it for 5min. A fragrance that clearly designed for the Asian market (which favor Eau Fraiche de Eau de Cologne kind of fragrances that have no sillage). Reminded me a bit of Creed Cedre Blanc, both in scent profile (for the little I could perceive) and performance. Not bad, just useless.

This smells of sweet, expensive cardboard.

So I bought a decant of this to really feel it out. I no longer think it’s very close to Carved Oud. There’s a bitter, smoky wood component with a little bit of ozonic freshness that comes close, but it has none of the deeper, rich caramelized, smooth notes that the Thameen fragrance has. I can see some similarities, but it’s not a good substitute. Right out the gates it’s very sharp and spicy. I wish I got more from the citrus and a stronger violet leaf note, but the feeling is of a very dry, almost parched cedar and guaiac. As it evolves I struggle to notice it, but eventually I get hints of orange. The smoke is prominent, with a resinous quality from the cade, but it remains extremely dry with no trace of sweetness. Usually I prefer that but here it feels a little too bare. I wish there was something extra in here to make it feel more full and alive, but if you like spicy, sharp woods with a subtle presence, then maybe it’s for you.

This fragrance is basically getting no attention at all which is undeserving. Why? Because it has the same DNA as Creed's Royal oud. Allthough they don't smell the same, it has that bitter wood with sweet undertones. If you like that type of bitter woody scent, you'll like this one. It's not a loud one and probably doesn't have the same lasting power as Royal Oud, but it's very cozy, subtle and alluring. Like some pointed out here, acts like a molecule fragrance. A great scent for someone that doesn't like fragrances too. It's just subtle woody ruggedness.

Harmonious drydown of dry, crisp woods note and witchy aromatic orange rinds with spices in a mortar and pestle. Resinous and calming. Combination of notes is reminiscent of a leather jacket at times; Soft projection and neutral impression, feels like it whispers instead of screams but is magical, yet simplistic. Can’t go wrong! The black boots you can wear with anything.
