Oriental Journey (Jeanne-Marie Faugier, 2007) Scentrack Thievery Corporation – Il Grande Silencio Often the names of the fragrances are not in correlation with their actual composition, and we witness these days too much Noirs, Nights, Intenses, Spicebombs... This is not the case. Caravelle Epicee gives me a real olfactive picture of the ship loaded with spices on return from the mystic East. The ship's wood is impregnated with the smell of most expensive, most desirable spices in the world. I was pleasantly shocked with the strong kick of nutmeg. The caraway comes very soon, accompanied with black pepper and just a hint of chili peppers. The body of Frapin's ship is made of sandalwood and Guaiac wood. Tobacco is also one of the main players in this story, compatible with whiskies and cigars (I usually sip gentle Irish blends like Bushmills Black Bush). The rich amber from the base is so compatible with tobacco. The whole composition possesses some boozy, Cognac or Irish whiskey/Bourbon vibe. I brought back this gorgeous liquid from my trip to Tuscany. I wore this for the first time while dining in Villa Medicea La Ferdinanda near Artimini or known as the House of hundred chimneys- the extraordinary work of Master Buontalenti. While the rest were just eating delicious Tuscan food and talked about business plans, I wander the lonely corridors and park in the dusk while wearing Caravelle. I felt the history and perfect melting of all my senses resulting in some sweet loneliness and weird masochistic happiness. This clear moment in time was given to me by Caravelle Epicee and Frapin’s characteristic aristocratic sadness. Rating: 9.5/10

The first thing that came to my mind after applying Caravelle Epicee was the scent of a confectionery store. Caravelle Epicee has a dominant note of nutmeg that is warm, spicy and rather sweet. All other notes evolves around it. There's a beautiful creamy sandalwood note very well-blended with amber and coriander. The whole composition is masterfully formulated. It has a feminine vibe to me reminding a kind of lipsticky and soft winey note. I wish it had more longevity. It can be very appealing and sensual to younger guys in the mood of modern metrosexual scents but it's not my cup of tea. اولین چیزی که بعد از استعمال این کار به ذهنم اومد بوی شیرینی پاپیونی قدیم و در کل بوی شیرینی پزی بود. یک بوی شیرین با نت های مشابه بوی زنجبیل و نارگیل و زعفران در شیرینی ها .البته طبیعی هست چون نت غالب این کار جوزهندی هست که در خیلی از دستورات شیرینی پزی استفاده میشه. جوز یک بوی گرم و ادویه ای و نسبتا شیرین داره در این کار. بقیه نت ها حول محور جوز هستند. من بوی کرمی صندل رو که با امبر گرم و شیرین تر شده و با تخم گشنیز جذاب شده رو به خوبی حس می کنم. می دونم این کار برای کسانی که دنبال روایح مدرن و جوانانه هستند بسیاز جذاب و سکسی هست اما به هیچ وجه رایحۀ رسمی و جنتلمنی نیست. یه ته بوی شراب مانند و ماتیکی هم داره که اون رو به سمت زنانگی متمایل کرده. تنها مشکلش دوامش هست که راضی کننده نیست اما پخشش بد نیست. کیفیت کار خیلی خوبه اما مجددا بنظرم این سبک کار ارزش 500-600 هزار تومن رو نداره.

I want to say that despite belonging to oriental group of frag Caravelle Epicee is real elegant not overwhelming first off all French style perfume. almost all frags can be named oriental, because of ingredients... but the way how they develop, the delicate silage, the intelligent notes playing..,- definitely this is France/Paris charm fashion style of perfume. very sophisticated! of course, someone can say it's a spicy bomb. but, remember, this is EDP, two spritzs are enough!!! and you are keeping be elegant ) Mostly for fall/winter time as for me, however it depends... More over, I would say this is Perfume of the Days Off when you are wearing in warm soft comfortable sweater sitting with loved one in cafe... or for theater evening. it's great and more masculine layering with perfume for women Santal Blush from Tom Ford or Aoud Safran. try! ))

A gorgeous spice laden composition that hardens to sea bound voyages of the past with ships (caravelles) laden with spices from the East, this is yet another classy offering from Frapin. The perfume opens with a spice burst of nutmeg and coriander. As it settles, mone can detect chili pepper, pepper, caraway and guaiac ( may temporarily cause expectoration in sensitive airways). Finally upon dry down, a woody masculine and somewhat powdery base of sandalwood, amber, patchouli and tobacco remains on the skin. The scent has a very historical air to it. It is not a fresh citrusy fougere and its spice wood laden radiance requires a certain distinguished and confident gentleman to carry it off. Moderate to strong projection and good longevity. Enjoy!

Another fun entry from Frapin, Caravelle Epicee blends the easy duo of tobacco and amber with touches of pepper, coriander, and caraway over a bed of woods to create an effortlessly masculine option. It's easy to wear, serious enough but still relaxing like a comfort scent, and while probably more apt for the cooler weather, is porous enough that it can be enjoyed in warmer weather, as well. Unfortunately, Caravelle Epicee suffers from the same lack of performance as 1270 (and L'Humaniste, for that matter), another somewhat boozy scent that might be regarded as wonderful if a bit bolder and stronger, but is really only "good" not "great" otherwise. 7 out of 10

A very reviving fragrance right from first sniff on, backened up with wonderful resins and ambers, an absolute mood booster for rainy days when you don't feel eager to get up from bed and start the day. On those days I put my Caravelle Epicee and immediately feel energized to keep up with the day.

I wonder why Frapin Caravelle Epicée is being marketed to men? Must be the nutmeg, which is definitely dominant. But nutmeg features in a few made-for-gals scents as well (Calvin Klein Secret Obsession comes to mind...), so I would not say that nutmeg alone is sufficient to put a fragrance in the men's cologne camp. I'd definitely recommend this creation to those who like the idea of Secret Obsession but can't get past the opening fumes. In fact, this perfume, as advertised, is a very tightly blended ensemble of many different spicy elements! A perfect cold weather composition, Caravelle Epicée gets better and better as it heats up on the skin. I'd thought that there might be a touch of leather in here, but looking at the note pyramid, perhaps it is the ambergris which imparts the dark, ever-so-slightly animalic quality. Mostly, I find this to be a solid oriental perfume--and completely unisex. Neither sweet nor flowery, but also not stereotypically made-for-men. No "cologne guy" here! Some reviewers have complained about the "sweaty cumin" in this composition, but I don't notice it at all, and I'm usually quite sensitive to that note. Not at all dominant here to my nose. Is it even detectable? Perhaps it's being blocked by the nutmeg? Of course, the fact that I don't smell it does not mean that others will not. I'll have to ask around: do I smell like sweaty cumin? I hope not!

I tried this blind from a sample. At 1st I thought, "wow! What fun nutmeg, zesty freshness, and maybe clove, a few other spices, + woods? Delightful!" But as the hours passed I admit that my thoughts towards it grew far less innocent and playful. As the cumin tone rose on me too, I kept burying my face in it to get another whiff. The tiny sweetness left of the nutmeg, the fresh woody zest were still there to draw me closer but up close! Oh the bodily glory of the cumin scent! Still, somehow there's a hint of freshness to the top that floats just above the skin, beckoning. It's so perfect for me. This is a fun, dirty blend of juxtapositions. Immediately went to 'love' for this lover of skanky spice. I feel like this would be a great, sneaky 3rd date scent, if you get my drift. Starts off lighter, fresher, and playful, but reveals the adult side of the mix an hour or so in. Mmm... I for one am captivated.

This reminds me a tiny bit of Serge Lutens. In the top there is a lot of incense note. The caraway gives that kind of cumin top note his are known for. This is spicy like a cross between Chergui and Ambre Sultan but lighter. Ie reminds me also of Tauer's Eau d'Epices. This isn't as good as those but it the same family. It is not a substitute nor a copy. In the base, it is a lovely rounded amber and patchouli but is a skin scent in the way you rub your nose up your arm for Jul et Mad's Amour de Palazzo. I like it but wouldn't drop the dough for a full bottle. In the final drydown it has that cola myrrh note similar to Annick Goutal's Myrrh Ardente.

This is a really well-blended, cosy, soft and spicy scent. The notes that stand out most on me are nutmeg, pepper and sandalwood, which makes the composition sweet and perfectly unisex to me (I'm a chick and I dig it). However, it's not full bottle worthy, partly because of the poor longevity, and partly because I own a close relative, Black Angel by Mark Buxton. Black Angel is a citrus/nutmeg combination, but it's just as pleasant and lasts longer.

Another beautiful creation from Frapin house with beautiful smell but limited performance. Longevity is moderate but thr sillage/projection are soft. All I get only after 1.5 hours is mild caraeay, nutmeg, amber, tobacco, corriander and faint sandalwood. Great versatility though due to limited projection/sillage.

Reminds me Alamut from Villoresi but I prefer wearing this one due to less powdery. Alamut is more femenine than this one. So I prefer this one only for that... Alamut and this are different ones. Both are great. 17 sept 2013: My mind changed and I prefer Alamut (5/5) over this one. 4,5/5

Rich, spicy, aromatic fragrance. Suitable for colder days all year round. Develops beautifully on my skin. One of my favourite spicy fragrances.

Unlike Mr. Duchafours take on similar spicy frags ( Timbuktu, Traversee du Bosphore..) which i just can't stand and for some reason are totally cloying, with this one i don't have those problems and can breathe easily without disgust. But this is far from a proper frag imho nothing special.

CARAVELLE EPICE عطرهای اسپایسی در زمره ی عطرهایی هستن که خیلی وسوسه انگیزن برام. خیلی سخت می گیرم در موردشون و کمتر عطری از این گروه هست که نظرمو جلب کنه. چون انتظار خلق فضایی خاص که از بوییدن ادویه ها در ذهنم مونده رو دارم. پس اونا رو کنار میذارم و باهاشون خداحافظی میکنم! البته این به معنی بد بودن اون عطر نیست و قطع به یقین اکثر این عطرها؛ کارهای خوب و جذابی هستن. وقتی آکوردهای این عطر رو نگاه کردم؛ بی معطلی و با کلی هیجان سراغش رفتم. تو ذهنم رایحه ی خاک گرفته ی دونه های گشنیز با اون تم ضعیف گیاهی و کمی تند، رایحه ی گرم و خاکی و کمی دم کرده ی زیره و البته رایحه ی دوست داشتنی فلفل رو تصور میکردم که... که تمام تصوراتم مثال رویاهای آقای کاب (لئوناردو دی کاپریو) در فیلم اینسپشن؛ از هم پاشید! شروع الکلی و تند عطر خیلی زود جای خودش رو به فضایی انیمالیک و بسیار قدرتمند میده. بویی خشن و چرکین و البته طبیعی. میخک، جوز، زیره و کمی علوفه ی خشک منو از رویاهای اسپایسی و زیبام پروندن و اطرافم گاوهایی رو حس کردم که با وقار و آرامش همیشگی مشغول تناول علوفه های خشک هستن. اون هم در محیطی با سقف چوبی و کفپوشی پر از براده های الوار که رنگ روشن قبل از پخش شدن در کف این محیط رو ندارن دیگه! ببخشید که چنین مثالی طرح کردم؛ اما ده-پانزده دقیقه ی آغاز عطر واقعا چنین حسی رو بهم القا کرد! فضایی که در اون میخک و زیره حس انیمالیک؛ گشنیز و پچولی حس خاکی-علوفه ای خشک و صندل، رایحه ی براده و ریزه های چوب رو بوجود میارن. رفته رفته جوز قدرت می گیره و یه رایحه ی ترش و خاکی که شبیه به پوست خشک شده ی مرکبات هست؛ از قدرت رایحه ی انیمالیک کم میکنه و آروم آروم از اون فضا دور میکنه تا اینکه بعد از گذشت حدود 40 دقیقه از عمر عطر، رایحه ی زیبایی از دارچین و زیره، بر فضای کار حاکم میشه که اون حس خشک و مرکباتی وسایه ای از رایحه ی انیمالیک، پشت سرش در حرکت هستن. این فضا باعث میشه امیدوار بشم و کمی خودمو جمع و جور کنم و بگم مثل اینکه داره یه خبرایی میشه. اما چه حیف حدود ربع ساعت که میگذره؛ دارچین و زیره بجای صدا کردن بقیه ی دوستانشون، با حس خشک و مرکباتی جوز همراه میشن و فضایی خشک، تند و کمی ترش و چوبی ایجاد میکنن که به مرور به پایه ی پچولی-تنباکویی کار میرسن. در پایه، از هم نشینی تنباکو، پچولی و رایحه ای الکلی و حس خامه ای ضعیفی از صندل، فضای جدی و خشک توباکو عود بخوبی حس میشه اما الکلی تر و تندتر؛ کمی هم چوبی. جوز هم این فضا رو کمی خاکی-مرکباتی میکنه. اون حس چرکین آغاز هم حضور ضعیفی داره که آرام آرام ضعیف تر و بعد از مدتی محو میشه. عطر در این لحظه تنباکویی(تنباکوی خشک، تلخ و دودی)، خاکی، کمی کرمی و خامه ایه. این فضا ادویه ای-خاکی، کمی دودی و گرمتر میشه . حس مرکباتی و خشک جوز، رایحه ی گرم و دوست داشتنی فلفل شیرین فضای اسپایسی و مطلوبم رو ایجاد میکنه که در حاشیه ی اون یه حس کرمی و کمی شیرین حضور داره اما حیف که در این لحظات زیبا، پخش عطر کم شده؛کمتر میشه و به پایان میرسه. Although it didn't quite work for me, I still find this lesser-known Frapin a very interesting choice. It opens with a unique spice explosion. Big woody-nutmeg blast. Too much in fact. Plus some honeyed sweetness and a boozy note. A whole raft of the spices jump out, very strong and bold at first. This is definitely a full-bodied fragrance. But nothing like the harshness and dryness of the similar sounding Lutens Ambre Sultan. I prefer this, more sweetness and a relaxing soothing vibe to the whole mix that make it very intriguing instead of downright offensive. Eventually two accords or notes dominate but sadly not the ideal ones for me. A strong wood (cedar-like) mixed with probably clove/nutmeg and cumin give a very strange effect. Sort of drowned out what other notes may have been going on, which annoyed. I did also get some caraway and maybe cinnamon. And pepper. There's an unrelenting effect of heat throughout this scent, this must be the pepper/chilli and nutmeg accord. It will simply be too spicy for some, including me. There are simply no cooling notes to balance this heatwave. Rather, just more spices as listed in the notes above! All in all, the blend did not move me as much as I was expecting but still had some balance and quality. The dry-down is again the star for me. The whole blend calms down much more. Very sexy smooth, sweet amber is what being niche is all about! I did not quite get any tobacco sadly. Unfortunately the preceedings couldn't match up, but this can still be a very appealing choice for the correct person and so is very underrated at that. Scent: 5/10. Quality: 8/10.

This is yet another scent I tested blindly, so I had no idea that it is marketed to men, and at no time in my sampling did I ever suspect that. So truly unisex. When I sample blindly I tend to focus on emotional and sensate experiences, rather than tryign to identify listed notes. With Caravee I felt 'intellectual centering'. Strange, huh? But I really did get clarity of thought when wearing this, and I"m keeping it around for when I need to do revisions. Spicy. I too suspected cinnamon and was surprised to see it not listed. There are two notes in perfumery that surprise me every time as 'jiving' on my skin. Pepper and tobacco. What I shake on my pasta and run from in public is difficult to imagine in fragrance. But both of these, when done well as they are here, really snap. Oi, glorious! I tend not like to like Oriental spicies because it's rare that they work for me, but this one is a sizzling exception.

I have heard many times the following phrase ''sweaty caraway'' but I never had the chance to smell how caraway or its similar cumin can be sweaty. Caraway is one of my beloved notes,considering that my signature scent is Arabie which is a cumin bomb! Caravelle Epicee is a full rich spicy perfume which opens with caraway and spices in general.After a while I get caraway with patchouli which makes it really sweaty.I suspect that it's not the caraway alone but the combination of patchouli and caraway that produces this effect(in fact sweaty feet effect on me).It's fresh spicy,not really warm spicy meaning that when it dries down it doesn't provide the warmth and thick spicy layer of Arabie. I find it more suitable for men,it has that ''macho'' characteristic which turns me off sadly..Nice try though and good lasting power.

The main thing that comes to mind with this is pungent. It may be the strong pachouli - I suspect that it is, I often pick up on that as something not so nice and cheap (to me - I think I have bad associations) however I checked a lot of the perfumes I love have pachouli in them so it might just be more prominent here. I can't imagine what else it can be maybe the caraway. I don't get a huge sense of spice because the pungentness is overbearing. Definitely won't be on my buy list, but some might like it. In the opening, the combination of coriander, chilli pepper, amber,and nutmeg creates an accord that proclaims, ''CINNAMON!'' This cinnamon note is tenacious through the drydown. Nevertheless, the guaiac wood, sandalwood, patchouli, and tobacco anchor the spiciness and sweetness just enough to prevent the fragrance from being too gourmand. It is, indeed, a lovely, spicy, sweet, woody fragrance.

Reminds me of a more refined, more masculine version of The One. A bit simple but I like the tobacco and sandalwood/guaiac combo, and the chili pepper keeps things from getting too generic. I appreciate that the cumin is close to non-detectable, everything is smooth and polished as expected from Frapin. A touch of smoke would have made it even better.

Cumin, cognac, tobacco, & nutmeg This is a herbal spicy blend with a tiny sweetness. It has cumin, cognac, tobacco ashes, nutmeg, sweet amber, dates, & guaiac wood. It's quite mean and filthy beauty indeed. I liked it's harshness from it's first spray, and when it settles it goes sweet animalic herbal. Beautiful.

I imagine people that like this might also like something like that desert marocain scent. But didnt do anything for me. Very warm, spicey, hot pepper, woody. As it dries down it gets better. But at the end of the day just feels like ive put some sort of seasoning on my body. Another frapin bites the dust for me!

A beautiful spicy amber ruined by an overdose of cumin. Sweaty, curry cumin overpowers the whole mix. If your skin doesn't amplify cumin, this might be a great scent for you in that it's warm and spicy and rich. But that cumin, argh!Not for me.

Opens with a huge dose of Cumin, but as the Caravelle gets closer to the shore there is a breeze of cinnamon, lavender and tobacco. Now you can see the promised land. Pros: This Caravelle is made of Guaicwood. Adorable.

Lavender, booze, musk, leather, rose, cinnamon, patchouli. And a lot of cumin in the dry down (body odor). Opening is very nice, dry down is not so much to my taste.

It is the best Spicy -Boozy fragrance that I smelled. It's scent is rich, luxury and very nice. A masterpiece . 8.5/10
