Terre de Sarment

A classy, uplifting aromatic gourmand fragrance that does not overpower. The impression it gives you is of waking up to a sunny morning in some Mediterranean island villa. The perfume opens with citrusy notes of grapefruit, grapes, neroli and caraway. It moves into a more spicier base of cinnamon, nutmeg, amyris and orange blossoms. Finally it settles into a nice spicy powdery base of frankincense, myrrh and benzoin. A bit masculine leaning with moderate sillage/projection and longevity, this is lovely understated slow burn of a perfume. Enjoy!

In contrast to the many lackluster reviews, the perfumer hit my sweet spot dead center with this one. I knew I'd purchase a fb long before the dry down. I appreciate it to the degree that I don't wear it on my wrists in public to avoid constantly sniffing myself. But privately!....I repeatedly, deeply inhale this amazing creation (for the head rush) well into its final stage. Mood altering in a very good way. Thank you, J Faugier!

I love this. I sprayed some out of the little sample vial I bought and was quickly looking for the price of regular bottles. I'm a huge fan of nutmeg in perfumes and this one really has it. The only downside for me is that although it gushes forth a good 2 1/2 hours, it suddenly disappears at the 4th hour. It's just gone. I wish it had left more gradually.

Very beautiful! I find it quite feminine and it reminds me very much of the middle of Valentina Assoluto minus the fabric softener finish. Not overly spicy, I get more of the creamy orange blossom and a bit of the incense... not much of the spices at all. Quite linear and wears close to the body, but a very nice fragrance.

This is an incredible bright woody fragrance. It's very unique and smells nothing like anything else in my collection. It's slightly on the masculine side of unisex, so for the bolder woman. The projection is good but the longevity is excellent. This has been my go to summer frag for 2012!

Terre de Sarment comes from Frapin, a house I mainly associate with good quality cognac, and while the scent itself is quite likeable, the performance leaves something to be desired. This is a smooth, sweet-spicy aromatic amber that feels unisex but leans slightly masculine and works best in warm weather and daytime settings. It’s well blended, pleasantly linear, and never overly sweet — just balanced and easygoing. The grape note is the star here, and surprisingly, it lasts for the entire wear. The spices, however, are very soft and restrained, almost too subdued for my taste. It does have a boozy quality and together with the grapes and spiced it feels to me like a nod to the cognac region with its grapevine yards and temperate climate. Performance is moderate overall, but it sits close to the skin for most of its life. Pleasant, polished, but ultimately a bit too gentle and modest for my liking.

Great fragrance! So, as someone mentioned, this opens with a very potent fabric softer vibe that sticks around for the duration of the fragrance. Cinnamon and nutmeg are present, woods, and incense are there as well. Overall, a great fragrance; needs more sillage, more projection after an hour-projects well once sprayed. Unisex, however, with the barometer leaning towards the masculine side of things. It is very different, unlike anything else in my wardrobe and probably yours also!! This is definitely worth a sample, even a bottle. Work, office, date-night, grocery store, not the kind of fragrance where one has to worry about offending. Try it!! This is very similar to 1697!...from the a boozy standpoint.

This is a very pleasant perfume. It ́s kind of slowstarter and very comforting. As F_A I detect a note of some kind of nettle in it, very green but in a light and subtle way. It warms up very slow, but all the time I find it to be a perfect perfume for spring, the time of spring when only the earliest flowers bloom, and you can see the first butterflies... Sensual, laidback and softspoken. This is very unique but in a quiet way. Would be excellent on men to. Recommend you to try this one, maybe not a super wow favourite at once, but you might like it more than you think from the beginning. In the top among perfumes that are very personal but still not make a lot of noise.

Leans a little more masculine than feminine on my skin, but I'm not deterred. I pick up benzoin, lemon, incense and the spices; myrrh, cinnamon and caraway, but none of the florals or grape scent. For me this is easy to wear, and I'm looking forward to trying it in warmer weather. Not much projection but it lasts more than 10 hours on my skin. Worth checking out if you like dry, natural scents. EDIT: love wearing this in Spring weather, its a beautiful aromatic and nothing in my collection comes close. I find it more unisex now. I don't throw the word original around, but that's just what TdS feels like. I adore this composition.

While this is too fruity for my liking, with a strong grape opening and the sweet orange blossom middle note, there is a bit going on that I really appreciate. The first time I wore it, it ended up spicy and resiny but the next time was quite different: the top notes linger, most of all the caraway, and once it loses the stronger aromatic notes the dry down makes it smell like buttery pastry - like having a fresh fruit danish in front of you. I am fast thinking that Frapins are their best at the dry down.

I like the scent but I don't like its performance. This is a nice unisex, linear and pleasant scent for warm weather, daytime. Performance is moderate overall but it stays close to the skin most of its life. It is a smooth, spicy, sweet scent very well blended. Not overly sweet, just as it should be. Dominant notes are benzoin, a green note, sweet grapes, caraway, nutmeg and soft incense/myrrh. Beautiful blend but not for me.

I find Terre de sarment as a solifloral fragrance. Why, you would ask. On my skin, it smells like the blossoms of White dead nettle from the beginning to the very base! For those who doesn't know how this plant smells like, it has the flowery scent of sweet honey with some powdery notes. Very specific and extremely pleasant:) A must try!

Reminds me of less intense Terra Mia by Carthusia. Interesting and evocative but Terra Mia offered clearer view. This is subtle in comparison.

Approaching a fragrance that sits as a quiet, relatively untalked about hidden gem within the brand portfolio, the question remains whether Terre de Sarment can deliver the transportive realism and exceptional blending required to stand out as a cold weather staple, or if its complex arrangement of fruits and heavy resins will feel muddy on skin. Let’s see if this fragrance stands as a gorgeous, comforting masterpiece of independent liquid art or if it is simply an over-engineered concept. Opening: The opening is fruity, spicy, and balsamic. The primary notes I get are grapes, caraway, nutmeg, and benzoin, with the grapes and caraway leading the introduction. The grapes confidently take the lead in the opening as a distinct, beautifully realized fruity and sweet accord, naturally different than any other fruit note I have ever encountered in a fragrance. They don't read as wine specifically, but of grapes still on the vine, and I believe that's the point. The caraway joins the grape at the top as a dry and slightly savory seed like spiciness. I have often heard this specific note compared directly to the distinct aroma of rye bread, and I can easily pick up on clear hints of that texture here. The nutmeg works as a vital supporting note of warm spiciness, blending seamlessly with the caraway to drive home the unapologetically spicy nature of the opening minutes. Lastly, the benzoin wraps the opening in a beautifully glowing and resinous balsamic accord, assisted in part by the accompanying myrrh and amyris lingering beneath. The result is an opening that delivers a truly unique, highly texturized fruity and spicy introduction. Dry Down The dry down transitions into a balsamic, spicy, and sweet experience. The primary notes I get are benzoin, nutmeg, myrrh, and caraway, with the benzoin and nutmeg leading the composition. Structurally, the benzoin has moved definitively into the spotlight as the central main note, establishing a much denser and more potent balsamic and sweet accord on skin. The nutmeg has also noticeably increased in overall strength to sit proudly alongside the benzoin, providing a much larger, dustier dose of its signature warm spiciness. The myrrh has officially emerged as a prominent supporting note in the dry down, layering in more balsamic tones but with a noticeably deeper, darker, and more resinous accord. Lastly, the caraway remains present in the background, providing gentle, persistent puffs of that bready spiciness from the opening hours. The result is a dry down that completely steps away from the initial fruity sweetness of the grape, choosing instead to lean heavily into a much deeper, more atmospheric resinous tone. Performance The initial projection within the first hour of wear is moderate, hovering consistently around four to five feet. The sillage matches that range, casting a trailing scent trail that is completely noticeable to others but remains strictly controlled and polite. After about three to four hours on skin, the projection draws in further to sit right around arm's length, and the scent trail lightens up significantly until it is only faintly noticeable. The fragrance officially becomes a true skin scent around this same milestone, demonstrating a disappointingly mediocre performance level that stops short of expectations for such a deep profile. When to Wear Terre de Sarment is a fall and winter fragrance that is highly versatile, proving completely suitable for both daytime and evening wear. Its structural core is entirely anchored by warm, balsamic resins, making it a stellar, sophisticated pick for after hours gatherings, but the juicy sweetness of the grapes and the fresh spiciness of the caraway ensure it possesses enough brightness for wearing under the autumn sun as well. This is a profile that leans naturally towards casual luxury special occasion wear, but it functions just as beautifully as a cozy, comforting choice for relaxed days at home. However, I would avoid selecting it for high level formal events or professional office environments where its unique spice profile might feel out of place. Blind Buy I would not consider Terre de Sarment to be a safe blind buy, although this warning is not for the reason you might initially assume. The prominent grape note is certainly a novel and uncommon inclusion, but it is not a challenging or abrasive element by its own right. The truly polarizing side of this fragrance comes directly from the heavy caraway note. I find that this element works exceptionally well in dry juxtaposition with the sweet grapes and rich resins, but that highly specific, savory, bready spice accord will definitely not resonate with everyone's personal tastes. In addition to that risk, the subdued, quieter performance level of the composition will certainly be a major mark against it for many collectors. Sampling is completely essential before pursuing a full bottle. Final Verdict Experiencing the concept behind Terre de Sarment reveals something extraordinary. It takes the abstract idea of a sun drenched vineyard aroma and runs with it wholeheartedly, while crucially sidestepping the trap of becoming a pure, unwearable novelty. The intelligent blend of harvest grapes, old world spices, and thick resins tells a beautifully cohesive, highly wearable olfactory story on skin. However, as incredible as a fragrance might smell, or regardless of how accurately it captures its intended inspiration, an artistic fragrance creation is ultimately only as good as the actual length of time I can smell it. From the very first application, I could immediately tell that this formulation was going to be underwhelming in its technical strength, and encountering such a rich, gorgeous note profile with this kind of fleeting life span is truly disappointing. Olfactory pyramid from Frapin website: Top: Grapefruit, Neroli, Cumin Heart: Incense, Nutmeg, Orange blossom, Cinnamon Base: Benzoin absolute, Amyris, Vanilla, Tobacco I like Frapin. And TDS wasn't bad at all untill vanilla came out of the shade. The base mix is far from good for my nose. Vanilla feels pretty overwhelming. I had mostly benzoin vanilla with a little hint of a tobacco. Or maybe I just wished tobacco was there, who knows.

More of an aromatic spicy than anything. I have never smelled grapes in a scent but the note lasts the duration of the scent. All the spicy notes are so tamed and light that it does no justice here. The pyramid looks great but that's about it.

The notes looked good but the smell is aweful. Opens up with a fruity ambery note, dries down to a weird ambery, churchy resinous scent with spices in the back. Really strange scent and I dont like it.

All the Frapin fragrances are slowly unfolding stories, journeys of discovery that lead to unique memories in the corners of your mind. I have to admit that the opening of intense neroli made me judge too quickly that I wasn't going to like this one. I find it a little headache-inducing for its slightly sickly qualities on my skin. This, luckily, faded quite quickly into the grapefruit & caraway. Somehow the caraway takes the edge off the grapefruit and turns it slightly soapy - only slightly, and a very pleasing stage which makes one feel fresh, reminds you of clean sheets dappled by sunshine. Next we have the beautifully creamy orange blossom cushioned by nutmeg, cinnamon & myrhh. Often with Frapin's perfumes you find yourself reading the notes as you let the fragrance settle on your skin and ask "where is that? I don't smell it at all.... aha! There it is!" as a fresh wave of notes bursts forth. This is what I mean by a story unfolding - you think you know where it's going and then, turning the page, you discover something new & exciting. As the incense appeared, I found myself sniffing more deeply at my wrists - just beautiful and my favourite stage thus far. Subtly handled, never harsh, as usual for Frapin: a perfectly balanced masterpiece of the perfumer's art. The drydown of benzoin, vanilla & tobacco is so comforting, so warm & all-enveloping. Frapin use a very light hand with their vanilla, by the way, in case you don't usually care for that in a perfume. They blend it in such a way that you aren't really aware it's there, but the perfume would be all the less wonderful without it. A true skill. For men and women? Yes, certainly, I can imagine myself wearing this on a fresh spring day, or a warm summer's morning. However, I think this one edges slightly more into the category of masculine. I'm going out for a meal with my fiance later this evening and have asked him to test it for me - it will be interesting to smell it on his skin, too, so I can compare. I am sorry for eulogising, but even though I haven't liked this as much as their divine '1270' (which was the first Frapin perfume I reviewed), it is still head and shoulders above so many other fragrances out there. To me, Frapin are creating some of the most enchanting, stunningly blended fragrances I have smelled for a VERY long time. Bravo, Frapin! Long may they continue their stories in scent...

TERRE DE SARMENT همین ابتدای کار، تنفر و برائت خودم از دخانیات، خصوصا قلیون لعنتی که این روزا آفت وار به جون مردم افتاده رو اعلام میکنم! چیزی که تنفرم رو از قلیون بیشتر میکنه؛ بوی افتضاح و مشمئز کننده ی دودیه که از ریه های بی زبون مصرف کننده هاش خارج میشه و محیط رو آلوده میکنه و وقتی که این بو رو با بوی تنباکوی معطر و عجیبی که تو برخی مناطق به شیوه ای کاملا طبیعی تهیه میکنن؛ مقایسه میکنم؛ تنفرم بیشتر میشه! هرچند تنباکوی طبیعی هم توجیهی برای استفاده از قلیون نیست! این تنباکو رو بسیار استادانه تهیه میکنن و تنها چیزی که از پروسه ی پیچیده ی تولیدش دستگیرم شد اینه که شهد غلیظی از انگورهای سرخ و سیاهو که درش نوعی خاک بنام خاک شیره حل شده و عطری عجیب و قدرتمند داره؛ روی تنباکویی که کمی از سبزی و آبداری اون کم شده می ریزن و اینجاست که ما وارد داستان تغ د ساغمنت میشیم! عطر شروعی نسبتا سنگین و انیمالیک داره که کمی ادویه ای هست و رایحه ی ضعیف اما قابل تشخیصی از انگور همراهیش می کنه. ده دقیقه که میگذره حس انیمالیک که به نظر از زیره و میخک ایجاد شده آرومتر میشه و انگور و صمغها قدرت بیشتری می گیرن. یه فضای الکلی-صمغی که کمی خاکی و کمی انیمالیکه و بسیار زیباست. اینجاست که تنباکوی شهد خورده و معطری که عرض کردم برام به زیبایی زنده میشه. یه بوم کاهگلی که مساحت وسیعی ازش توسط برگها و ساقه های تنباکویی که معطر به شهد انگور خاک شیره خورده هست؛ اشغال شده. این لحظه ی عطر مثل تنباکوی دل فریب و دهن آب انداز وصف شده؛ خیلی زیبا و اغواگره، خیلی با کیفیته، خیلی جذاب و نابه! هم نشینی انگور و صمغها به مرور کمی دودی میشه و قدرت فضای صمغی افزایش پیدا میکنه. از طرفی نسیمی از گلها، فضا رو تلطیف و دلنشین میکنه و حس انیمالیک رو بیشتر به حاشیه می بره. گذشت زمان عطر رو ملایمتر میکنه. حس چرکین و انیمالیک تقریبا محو شده؛ فضای اسموکی-رزینی کمی ضعیف شده و حس الکلی-تنباکویی انگور کمی بالاتر اومده و هنوزم اون عطر دوست داشتنی تنباکوی شهد خورده رو بخوبی حس میکنم که نسیم زیبایی از گلها، زیبایی این حس و حال رو دو چندان میکنه. تو این لحظه ها یه رایحه ی ضعیف از دارچین که کمی چوبیه حس میشه و این ترکیب رو مستحکم و بسیار زیبا میکنه. هر چه زمان میگذره؛ این رایحه ی خنک و تازه فضای عطر رو ملایم تر و دلنشین تر میکنه و چیزی که در انتها به مشام میرسه عطر دلنشین تنباکوی غنی شده با انگوره که کمی هم الکلی و شیطون!! شده و استشمامش حسابی سر ذوقتون میاره. رایحه ای لطیف و ملایم که الکلی-دودی، شیرین و تند و البته خشک و جدیه! کامنت: م.ع (سایت لوکس بایر (با امکان تست سمپل

I'm not overly familiar with Frapin & Cie fragrances, however, I'm aware that they are quite popular amongst the perfume community. I did own a bottle of 1697 but sold it on when I realised that the rum and vanilla did not work well with my skin chemistry. I'm giving this brand another chance and thought I'd start with Terre de Sarment, a well-received oriental described as 'inoffensive' and 'comforting'. Terre de Sarment is a unique fragrance in that it features a dominant note of grape. This fruity, abstract opening makes this an oriental fragrance suitable for the warmer weather. If this fragrance were a beverage it would be a chilled glass of Lambrusco, an Italian red sparkling wine best enjoyed outdoors. The heart and drydown feature an array of soft spices, white florals and resins. There is a tendency to expect a predictable dark, smoky oriental when reading the scent pyramid, yet the reality is a smooth, wearable and sparkling fruity-oriental. Having tested Terre de Sarment I am keen to try more from this niche brand. From the two fragrances I've tried so far, they are not afraid of experimentation and thinking outside of the box. I like witnessing this daring approach to perfumery, it distracts from the mundane perfume releases of recent years. This is a very clever composition and I applaud the fine work of perfumer Jeanne-Marie Faugier. Although I may never buy a bottle of this fragrance, I thoroughly enjoyed wearing Terre de Sarment and would happily test it again.

This is very odd, unlike anything I've yet smelled. Warm and cool at once; I get predominantly caraway/amaryis(?)/myrrh, and a touch of sweet grapes that keep it from being totally resins and spice. Cinnamon and nutmeg are definitely present adding spicy warmth. My overall impression is of a sun ripened but tart green grape squished over a carven wooden bowl that's filled with deep, warm spices as part of some odd nature ritual. There is a definite tartness to it that keeps the scent interesting overall. An hour or so in: there is some note or combo smelling like CHILE PEPPER here! Not quite fresh-cut and hot (as L'artisan's Piment Brulant) but a definite spicy red pepper note! Intriguing, what could that be? It's very real and very noteworthy. Interesting enough for me to definitely click 'like' (I've been pickier lately about not pressing 'like' when what I really mean is 'meh, it's ok') Random personal association sidenote: It reminds me of the smell of a Spencer's store (in the malls in USA) for some unexplicable reason... honest. EDIT TO ADD: The drier, woodier spiced facets come out on my bf. Not so much of the sweetness and not getting that spicy note on his skin. Very subtle, natural, slightly warm and just masculine enough on him. Really enjoy this on both of us! Glad to have aquired a 10ml decant from another fragrantican in a swap :D

Some of the Frapin perfumes have been a bit too congested for my taste--more concoctions than wearable perfumes. Terre de Sarment, in contrast, is a very likeable and wearable unisex composition. Beatrice Cointreau is not a perfumer but a Frapin family member and creative director, right? So I'm not sure that she should be listed as the perfumer in this case. They obviously hired someone to put this together, but perhaps it is her vision which binds all of these rich oriental perfumes together. Her "signature" taste is definitely on display, as she apparently prefers lots of spices and heavy oriental elements. Needless to say, the Frapin collection perfumes are not office-ready-inoffensive-fruity-floral frags. Instead, they are more the sorts of perfumes to wear under a cozy cashmere sweater at home on a frosty cold day while drinking tea--or Cointreau! Anyway, there are several spices and oriental base elements blended together in this composition, along with a notable tobacco leaf note which balances everything nicely. I feel that this blend is more harmonic than some of the other creations from this house. Smooth and rich but not very sweet and not overly caloric (metaphorically speaking). The nutmeg and the benzoin are both dominant and coexist nicely in Terre de Sarment.

I've to be honest, I'm not very impressed by Terre De Sarment. The first time I tested it, it was on paper and the spicy-citrus opening was way more appealing if compared to the skin test. A full wear revealed a spicy woody fragrance that, while it's far from being unpleasant, it's still a little too pale to be outstanding or even remarkable. For the same price you can have much better alternatives (i.e. Idole de Lubin, Bois D'Ombrie). Nice but somehow not completely satisfying. Rating: 6.5/10

to widescope Hey guys, we all here to share our opinion about perfumes. The other reviews are out of the topic! Please do not ruin the atmosphere by these kinds of reviews!! It is needed to mention that all the people who share their opinion can not write their reviews in English very well because they are from other countries (Like me). So they have a very limited vocabulary option or It is hard for them to write a complete review.

A balsamic resin affair that’s not unpleasant but doesn’t go to any real lengths to distinguish itself. There are some tasty white florals upfront, but they’re quickly accosted by the tonka-esque powderiness of resins which are smooth and nicely formed, but lack the edge I’d hoped. It’s pleasant, comfortable, but powdery and safe. It becomes a mundane, resinous oriental with hints of bergamot. Nothing to see here, folks.

All I get from this is clay and something vaguely peppery. It smells exactly like clay. That makes it very true to its name, but as a perfume, it's not really something I'd be looking to wear on my skin. It's very dry - almost arid - and I once caught the tiniest little hint of lemon, but it was gone almost as soon as I noticed it. I'm sorry I can't say much more about this, but that was all I got from it.

A fruit basket in a large tabble in the countryside with vegetables, plants and grapes. The first 15 minutes are really strange, but still beautiful. A melange of spices, resins and citrus. But the drydown is perfection: A mix of orange blossom, amyris and myhrr and that is the mock, the ingredients that create the grape note. Terre de Sarment, troppo bene!

@Widescope. Bullying is still bullying no matter which way you try to disguise it. Please remember that this member's review is just as informative to others as are the many novels I have read on here that in the end say, "good longevity, good projection...I love it..."

The combination of the myrrh, benzoin, nutmeg give this a clay like, terre, feel. Its very odd. Similar to the earthiness of Memoirs of a Trespasser. Not my style, I'll be sticking to Passion Boisee and Speakeasy from this line. Those two are stars IMO.

I wanted to like this but I don't. It feels current, well put together, yet it's missing charisma. I find it to be more masculine then feminine, so maybe on a guy it will smell better. This projects safe and cozy, "don't want to be noticed" vibe.

Very very nice. Inoffensive, warm; so nice that probably I'm going to buy FB, even though very "anti-statement".. but I don't have anything so nice and neutral in that category that it would become referential & safest choice...

why nobody earlier wrote that this is the very ripe scent. I think that this is typically scent for men. Is warm , not too sweet, sallow and of fruit but for man. :)

This might be too balsamic for my taste. Smells like a really strong smelling oil in a steamy and hot massage room. Very masculine and quite strong.

Booze, fig leaves, sandalwood and spices are what I get from this one. Nice and unique.
