Dormir Al Sol

I'm not sure I would've said Dormir. I get a much stronger feeling of a languid dusk in a warm tropical sun, a comfortable hammock rocking me into a state of melting contentedness, and a lush landscape of flowers and trees and loamy soil surrounding me. Or perhaps that's just me. When I dream, I dream vividly; Dormir al Sol is not what I would call vivid - it's too relaxed and elegant, whimsical and abstract. The citrus notes of lime and bergamot are devoid of any bracing and sour effervescence, and oily zest for that matter, rather they are soft, ripe, slightly sweet, and juicy. Combine these with a liquor type note - the brand says brandy, which it could be, or rum, or something like that - and it's like I have a fruity rum cocktail in my hand while the hammock gently sways. There is no heat of alcohol coming off of it, just juicy fruit and cask barrel notes. But then, mimosa. The star of this perfume. It is an exceptional mimosa material. It is as yellow and warm as the sun, sweet, powdery, hay like, and honeyed while also being a bit unctuous and green. Mimosa also has a tendency to be quite cloying and dense, but in Dormir the density doesn't come across as cloying; it is just as dense as silk while being as lightweight as air. It hovers and wafts about my skin, never seeming to settle or thicken, not even in the dry down. While we're on the dry down, the mimosa has a couple interesting partners in Dormir, those of guaiac wood and vetiver. This trio is responsible for the majority of Dormir's feeling of relaxed and whimsical elegance that leans a bit retro. It's a smart and unique pairing, with the greenness of the vetiver providing lift and levity while the guaiac provides deep richness and elegance. There are two things I'm taking away from Dormir al Sol. The first is that it is beautiful. Every note is beautiful, exceptionally smooth, and they are seamlessly stitched together - dense as silk and light as air, as mentioned earlier. The perfume is well executed, both creatively and technically, from start to finish. It is a joy to wear. The second thing is that it creates an odd tension. Well, maybe tension isn't the correct word, maybe trichotomous is a better choice. The relaxation, whimsy and abstraction to Dormir doesn't have tension per se, but it does feel like the mimosa, guaiac, and vetiver are tugging at each other ever so gently, like a gentle, loving hand holding your own that seems to lightly lift yours when it starts to go in a different direction. The mimosa wants to go to a sweet, floral, aloof, warm sunshine direction; the guaiac wants to present deep, woody, and rich stateliness; the vetiver wants to be vibrant and energetic. Dormir al Sol might be a perfume with dissociative identity disorder - indecisive or vacillating are softer ways of putting it - and as such, you might not be sure who you are dealing with at a given moment. For some wearers it might be one, for others another, and others still something else. But, I think, regardless of who/what you get, that visage is going to be very pretty and evocative.

This is a multi-faceted & layered fragrance. 1st whiff: I’m at Gramp’s & Grammy’s dining room table, 1970 something. Guiac wood smells smokey-waxy to me. Like someone just blew out taper candles that burned too long. Mimosa absolute is f/acacia tree, known for powdery floral scent, which can be comforting & sweet. Some people, (me), feel it reads as violet, cucumber & dill which is why I’m at my grandparents home. Grammy grew Violet’s & had them in little cloches that kept them humidified in cold Montana winters. They released fragrance that was distinct & smelled like lipstick, comfort & January. She canned “bread & butter” pickles which had dill, cloves & peppercorns & served them in a crystal relish tray. She lit silver candlesticks w/ taper’s in them every Sunday dinner. I smell all of this instantly & am suddenly in her arms. I had tears misting up my eyes in 3 minutes of spraying this sample from #Olfactif. It’s now softening-morphing into a spice market scent. I smell sweet orange, saffron rice w/paprika. I’m walking through a Souk of sorts but it isn’t warm out & I’m not in Dubai. Where am I? Ah. Seattle. Pike’s Market. It’s rainy-drizzling, I smell salty mist & my damp hair smells like balsam shampoo. I want almond pastry w/a latte spiked w/ a nip of the hard stuff, & I want to smoke a Virginia Slim's cigarette f/the 1970’s ...#Frassai Middle Notes Time Machine. Base: Bengal Restaurant inside the corridor of Fairmont Empress Hotel-Victoria, BC. I plan to stay here all evening on this chilly April day, w/my eyes shut & my nose open & my heart wrapped around the thick peppery cloud my Grammy’s spirit is hovering within. This isn’t like anything I own or have tried. This isn’t even a perfume. This is a part of my life. I don’t know how you did this #DormirAlSol , but you’ve taken me on quite a journey. What a gorgeous mimosa! adorned by juicy, fresh, a bit sharp citruses, delicate spices and earthy, warm booziness It opens very fresh and aromatic, I do get something like lime with cucumber and dill as one of the commentators below said, and then it quickly turns very fluffy, powdery, soft sweet floral which my mind first flashed as blurry yellow-ness which sharpened into a mimosa image this scent is so evocative and triggering, in a good way, it's really unique I am smitten by this brand as well, it goes straight to my favorites. This perfumer is doing a great job as well, I was equally awe-struck by Victoria

"To Sleep in the Sun" captures that rare balance between bright energy and earthy calm. It isn't your typical patchouli-heavy scent; instead, it uses spices and citrus to create a sophisticated, gender-neutral profile. The dry-down is the highlight—a surprising shift into a soft, powdery floral finish. I didn't expect to fall this hard for its complexity, but now I’m diving headfirst into the rest of the Frassai discovery set. This isn't a beast mode fragrance. It's personal - sitting close to the skin after the initial earthy green opening.

When I was wearing this, my friend and I were sitting by a bush and she said “that bush smells so good!” It was me! A testament to how gorgeous and natural this perfume smells. It smells like sun-warmed mimosa. A touch of sweetness from the yellow florals, balanced by the woody notes. This is my summer go-to. When I wear it I feel feminine—like a Greek goddess wearing a flower crown taking a nap in the sun. Though I think this is a true unisex and would smell lovely on people of any gender.

Beautiful fresh spices, tender citruses and soft floral notes. It’s a really nice refreshing scent with a touch of fruitiness and powderiness as well as amazing complex woody base. It’s very uplifting but also mysterious and sophisticated. My ig: scent.guide

Mimosa! I'm fairly sure I recognise the note purely through testing some other fragrances in the past that contain it, and I really don't mind it's fairly distinct green florality. It's quite unisex to my nose. Other than that, a solid backbone of vetiver, a little saffron and a touch of patchouli carry this main accord in a fairly linear fashion throughout its 7-8 hour life. I like that it's a great clean wear with a hint of 'spice' and a slight 'tanginess' from the lightly vegetal facets ( again Mimosa? ). Don't really detect any booziness in here though which is a bit of a shame. Been enjoying my sample as something to wear for work, and am currently picking up wafts as I clack away at my keyboard. I have added this to my little list of potential full bottle purchases. I may even rate it higher than the Teisenddu I bought! ( Dormir Al Sol was a sample that came with it. I was hoping for a boozy mimosa, but this comes across to me as primarily woods and vetiver, going a little sharp and slightly dill on me, leaning masculine.

I was describe this light and in soft-focus, like the moments carved out of languor, a deliberate release of all care and worry. The urge to rush, to stiffen, tensing shoulders, is released. The setting is somewhere lush and green, far away from hustle and bustle, quieter, allowing one to really notice with all senses the surroundings. It is imbibing a concoction with a twist of lime, just sweet enough to satisfy but with just enough of a bitter finish to feel stimulated. Under flowering trees, surrounded by lightly fragrant foliage, filtered afternoon sunlight through a copse, a relieving sigh is a crescendo among the chorus of songbirds. In comes mimosa as the main protagonist, feeling arpeggiated, honey rising up to cucumber water, powder and pollen lifted to the grassy green blades, distant straw bales punctuated by satin ribbons of almond softness. The underscore is through the presence of burning leaf smoke sensation of guaiacwood, with just the suggestion of tea rose in the margins. The experience is beautifully hazy and inarticulate, like a reverie rather than sober definition. Expect no blitz, no great fanfare—Dormir al Sol flirts with your senses and gently challenges your perceptions.
