Hollywood Star

I bought this from FragranceNet a few weeks ago, and I really like this one, I decided to buy this one over the original Hollywood, because I was unsure how the tuberose would be in it, because of the original Giorgio Beverly Hills perfume so I was hesitant, who knows I may get it someday. Hollywood Star is amazing on me, it goes perfect with my body chemistry! I see some people having issues with this perfume. I think this perfume is great, it reminds me of LouLou by Cacharel, but I prefer this one, because there is no incense in this, and on me the incense comes out a lot when I wear LouLou, I still think it's a great perfume, I just think Hollywood Star is better with my body chemistry, some perfumes just work better on you than others do. I feel like I am also smelling slight aldehydes in this perfume as well as ylang ylang which is in the original, maybe it's the musk? Maybe I am the only one who has voted this as a love on here. This perfume really does have an 80's vibe. R.I.P. Fred Hayman you will be missed. I feel like Fred really gave a good part to what the 80s was in general, as well as in perfume. And I just watched Pretty Woman the other day on Blu Ray, I just can't get enough!

Unlike another reviewer, I got my bottle from Fragrancenet but it is divine. I love it. My nose doesn't agree with the notes list though. I would have guessed orchid, iris, heliotrope and musk. It has a teeny bit of citrus in the opening that just keeps it bright. It's a little sharp like orchid and sweet. That's the mimosa talking. So, I would say: mimosa, rose, musk mainly after that. So glad that I blind bought it. On the final drydown this was intense musk more like civet and it lasted on my back of my hand for more than 16 hours.

Wow. It is strong and unapologetic. I don`t get any citrus, which is great, and there`s a sweetness created by the mimosa (tons of), rose and gardenia that blooms on your skin, and keeps blooming all day. I also have Hollywood and I am beyond happy having these two in my collection. Be careful with the sprayer as this is quite potent. There must be a civet hidden somewhere. Long lasting and good projection.

interesting stuff. I first dismissed it because my bottle seemed straight up turned, but something made me keep trying. I think the stuff in the straw/nozzle was off, or it needs to oxidize or something. Because this is turning into something really compelling, pollenous, rich, heady, summery, lots of (dirty) gardenia, lots of amber, warm musk, and the mimosa reads more like honeysuckle, and there's some fruit. Wouldn't say citrus. maybe honeydew? plum? apricot? something sweet-tart and almost 'naughty' + syrupy. Civet in there, definitely. Makes me think of high summer in a botanical garden, completely with 'earthy' undertones. Very vintage but fascinating and makes me feel bold lol edit: actually this is fantastic, i'm glad i didn't give up on it based on the icky stuff in the nozzle lol. Summery, amber and fruity sweet, honey-ish, zesty yellow aldehyde sparkle in the opening and then it settles down into a classic and gutsy yellow-white floral in the late 80s-early 90s style. It's actually very similar to the lost, lamented Gio Giorgio Armani, which my mother wore pretty much exclusively when i was in elementary school lol. This has the aldehydes in the opening but the gardenia-peacy-tuberose, ylang-iris, rosy spicy amber-honey dry down is very much in the same vein. Wildly intense, though, you need to use like fractional spritzes. Makes me curious about the original Hollywood scent. edit again: Deep, deep in the drydown it somehow turns to coconut. Not sweet foody coconut, but coconut nonetheless. Aspects of the Gardenia maybe.

WARNING I recently grabbed a bottle off FragranceNet because I actually really like the original, so I was curious enough about this flanker to try it at the low price. When I received the bottle and spritzed my wrist, I nearly gagged. It smelled like a fragrance that had gone totally off. I had just gotten freshened up and dressed, but I had to wash and change clothes to get rid of as much of the putrid scent as possible. It was that nauseating. Well, I've generally had great luck with FragNet, but a bad bottle can sneak through. No big deal. I tossed it in the bin. Awhile later, I stumbled across a cheap bottle from a big seller on ebay and decided to give it one more chance. Ugh! It smelled exactly the same! Luckily, this time I didn't blast myself with the stink. I could detect the rancid scent the moment I opened the box. So I'm left wondering - does Hollywood Star simply smell like a fragrance gone off to my nose, or is it one that turns easily, and I've had the bad luck of receiving two dead bottles from two different respectable sellers? Not sure, but either way, buyer beware.

Many moons ago I read a book called “ How Do I Look “ by Gale Hayman. I carried this female fashion and grooming guide around like it was the New Testament. This book made such an impression on me that at the age on 15 I decided I was going to own every Gale Hayman, Fred Hayman, and Giorgio Beverly Hills fragrance ever made. That never happened but it was on this quest that I nabbed Hollywood Star. Having already owned the original Hollywood I bought this blind thinking the scent would be in the same family. Boy was I wrong! I can’t even begin to describe what was wrong with the scent to me. It just smelled unpleasant. I am thinking Fred Hayman must have made this when he was divorcing Gale. Not being prone to waste I used the bottle as a bracelet holder. Later I tried my wrists at blending it with other scents. The Hollywood Star would always rear its ugly head like a bad zit. Nothing worked until I nabbed Hot Pink Delicious by Gale Hayman. I decided to blend the two because they were created by ex spouses and both had bright pink bottles. Yep, that was the basis of my logic. To my surprise my scent matrimony worked! By worked I do not mean that this combo was the marriage of Jay Z and Beyonce. More like Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones . The combined scents came together to create simple yet pleasant clean white floral scent with a hint of rose. To admit that I found this combination pleasant is actually saying a lot since I don’t typically like white floral or rose.

I recently blind bought this because I love several Fred Hayman perfumes (Touch, Touch with Love, 273 Rodeo Drive). What a mistake I made! The description of this states that it is an oriental floral...I feel so sorry for anyone who has flowers that smell like this in their home or yard! Upon impact with my skin, rotten fruits of every description burst their way into my nostrils, and I'm not proud of it, but I actually gagged. I have NEVER had that bad of a reaction to any fragrance before in my life! Also, recently I was "lucky" enough to find a new bottle of 273 Red. I was sure that this one would be awesome both because I love the original 273 and because every other time I have tried a fragrance described as "red" it has gone on to become one of my favorites (Diamonds and Rubies, Charlie Red, Red Door, Giorgio Red, etc). GACK! One spray, and again, upon impact with my skin, rotten fruit! So much rotten fruit! I would love to figure out another scent that I could put on before or after one or both of these so that they could be transformed into something that doesn't make me gag. So far I haven't had any luck with anything. It just smells horrible!

Yeah it smells like an Oscar Night fragrance of the 80's. Powerful stuff. It opens with aldehydes, citrus, and mimosa. The opening is reminiscent of Shalimar and Emeraude. The rest of the performance is floral with gardenia and rose. So this is a floral fragrance heavy on gardenia. If you're familiar with gardenia and how it wears on your skin as a fragrance, you will know whether or not to buy this. I thought this was very fresh and yet strong so it doesn't require me to spray too much. Just one spritz on my neck or collar bone and I'm good to go. The dry down is the most beautiful part of the fragrance. It turns into a lot of things: powdery, musky and amber. It smells expensive and vintage, luxurious and elegant. Don't be turned off by the price. This is an affordable but very expensive smelling fragrance not too different from fragrances that tried to evoke Hollywood glamour, movie stars, movie star's dressing rooms, and the Red Carpet on Oscar Night. Other scents that did this include Fred Hayman's Hollywood, Michael Kors Very Hollywood, Jennifer Lopez Love and Glamour and Paris Hilton Tease. This one is much stronger and dated compared to the others but I liked it. My chemistry can handle strong scents but I only wear stronger perfume at night for formal events. This is beautiful, glamorous sexy and very Hollywood. The notes do not follow the perfume pyramid formula of top middle and base notes so the scents come at you at once if you're familiar with how those type of scents are like you won't mind this but if you prefer the progression in stages skip this one. This has mandarin mimosa gardenia rose amber and musk. I didn't like it at first but then I warmed up to it.

Fragrance Review For Hollywood Star Fred Hayman Notes: Mimosa gardenia amber mandarin musk rose Hollywood Star is a better choice than Fred Hayman's Hollywood which is a poorly made white floral. In it's vintage form it was pretty good but the reformulation suffers. This is a flanker for Hollywood and according to a friend of mine who wore it and bought it for me it smells the same as it did when first launched. This is a beautiful amber perfume. I picked up on the amber touches right away. A rich gold creamy amber. Around it are musk and even some vanilla. It's funny how it has no top middle base note formulaic structure but it behaves as if it did. It would have a top note of citrus mandarin orange bergamot and gardenia, a heart note of rose and mimosa and a base note of vanilla musk and amber. I agree with the reviewer who compared it to Shalimar. Of course it does not smell exactly like Shalimar or Emeraude for that matter. There is an Oriental flair to it and it has that big citrus punch as it opens. Fresh, sweet, cool and refreshing. The floral aspects become apparent as the frag develops into mimosa and rose. It has a classic vintage feel, very glamorous and Old Hollywood. It is rather strong and so it has excellent sillage and it's the kind of perfume that stays on you for quite a while. Perfect for formal wear and formal evening events. It's a mature perfume that takes itself very seriously and so should you. I liked it. The price is awfully cheap but the scent is very enjoyable and a tad more sophisticated than other frags at that price range - 16 bucks on Fragrance X. Beautiful, sweet citrusy floral perfume with a glamorous sex appeal.

I find this ambery citrus, almost mulled oranges, def zesty/spicy, soapy clean, soft rose and musk with a little bit of intoxicating gardenia. Don’t get vanilla, thankfully. I don’t like cantaloupy melon smells, but Im ok with the honeydew accord. Overall, I think it gives zingy, soft, and strong vibes. I am one that needs a strong base or a perfume that isn’t so sheer - my skin gobbles up scents, but this is one that I prefer to be sure I get a mist vs a puddle on my skin. I guess I can see how this isn’t really for the masses. Its got the kind of depth that I have rarely seen since the 70’s. Was this really launched in 2003? So good. Great value. Seems like almost no one wears this, yet Black Orchid went gangbusters? I just don’t understand.

Hello everyone! On initial spritz this perfume is very heavy and overwhelming. Every note seems to be fighting for the spotlight. However, the dry down is heavenly. The rose, amber and musk combine to leave a warm, powdery cloud that lasts for hours on my skin and days on my clothes. This perfume reminds me of Emeraude by Coty, and Angel Rose by Thierry Mugler. I love Angel Rose, but Emeraude is a bit to matronly for me. This is probably because Emeraude was my Grandmother's signature fragrance in the 70's, ;).

Really bad! Harsh, chemical...yuck! The drydown smells sour, bitter. I can't detect any of the notes mentioned here. On the back of the package it says there is honeydew and citrus in it - don't smell those either. Thumbs down! (Maybe I got a bad bottle or cheap reformulation; I purchased it at Marshall's.)

This is a very nice floral/oriental for the money. I really could not smell the mandarin but the rose, amber, and musk are obvious. It is well blended and would be suitable for night more than day. It has average sillage and a decent life span...maybe five to six hours.

I like this! I smell mainly fresh oranges with a subtle floral backdrop. Great bottle too. Would go perfectly on an old-fashioned vanity.

I forgot to say sillage is medium and lasting power good: 6 hours on my skin.
