Hollywoodland The first time I smelled Hollywood by Fred Hayman (AKA Giorgio Beverly Hils) was in the Manhattan townhouse of my mother's employers. It was 1989. The couple had just returned from a trip Los Angeles California where they had tried their luck with getting into the movie business - as actors, of course. They brought back a lot of merchandise and this was among the items. I could never dream of putting on this fragrance because I was under 10 years old. However I had the habit of smelling adult women's fragrances, as there was nothing wrong with just smelling it lol..That first day that they were back in New York City they went out to Long Island for some business and had to be away the next day as well. My mother and I stayed in the townhouse overnight. When my mother watched an old movie and fell asleep, I sneaked into the Mrs of the house's walk in closet where she had put the fragrance on small dresser. It was already out of the box so I quickly grabbed it and sprayed once on my wrist. I remember smelling a lot of alcohol, and then something very powdery yet very warm. I couldn't identify the notes then. I remembered the scent and loved it but I was never able to find it again. Lo and behold in my discovery of classic vintage perfumes I found that it was selling for a very low price on Amazon.com. I bought it and when I got it in the mail I became that innocent child again. Then I smelled the fragrance which I put on myself. Now it was all mine. And having more of a nose I detected: an aldehyde opening, a peach, a gardenia, a mimosa, a jasmine and tuberose, amber and musk. For some reason these notes don't really go well together. Also, the frag selling right now on Amazon.com is a reformulation. The original had an animalic accord of civet. The new one appears to have only musk. It's leathery and warm but very bizarre. The white flower and musk combination simply don't go together. They would have done better pairing the white flowers with incense or myrrh. The dry down becomes very powdery but it's not a pleasant smell. It smells like a cheaply made fragrance with very little thought and originality. Smells like an old fashioned body spray, air freshner or car freshner. The white flowers are still there and I love them but the original was heavier on mimosa which this is now missing. I also don't get how this is supposed to evoke Hollywood California or Hollywood movie studios. I think their idea was to recreate fragrances worn by such classic stars as Joan Crawofrd, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwick Ava Gardner and Elizabeth Taylor, each who had worn a white floral fragrance called Jungle Gardenia. Well this is nothing like Jungle Gardenia which is a million times better. This was a bad idea. They should have just stuck to a strong gardenia scent with base notes of incense and amber. The amber in the new formula is gone and it seems to be replaced by vanilla (not listed). The whole thing just doesn't work. So in conclusion don't buy this on Amazon. Look for the original vintage 1988 version selling on ebay. That one at least has a more balanced blend of peach, mimosa, gardenia, jasmine, tuberose, and then the animalic scents of musk and civet, and the warmth of amber. The original was what I was smelling on that night in that woman's closet and I loved what I was smelling!

[ATUALIZAÇÃO] Percebi que o lado mais desgostoso da fragrância para mim se dá pela presença da mimosa, definitivamente uma nota que me causa estranheza e sinto a entonação dela em todos os perfumes que tenho, peguei tanto ranço que identifico bem rápido, porém, ainda acho este perfume lindíssimo e trás uma experiência que foge do óbvio e que é prazerosa, o momento mais gostoso da performance é quando a gardênia se pronuncia do meio pro final. [PRIMEIRA RESENHA] Nunca senti uma tuberosa tão boneca como essa! Uma saída verde aldeídica (não sinto TÃO forte) pontuda misturada com fruta que é um tanto agressiva, lembrou um xarope espesso caseiro que meu pai fez na infância para tratar minha asma, chega a dar repulsa dele no começo mas depois ele vai amansando, vai fechando na nota de tuberosa emborrachada com um dulçor e cremosidade leves (que lembra condicionador de marca antiga) mas um tanto medicinal, ele traz essa conotação medicinal pra mim durante quase toda a duração do perfume (acho que também por conta da nota de sândalo que ficou forte na minha pele). Pra algumas pessoas pode ser bem exótica essa mistura tuberosa verde medicinal (lembra incenso também), mas é lindamente clássica, uma fragrância pra quem pode carregar, com poucas borrifadas e sem uso no calor, performou na minha pele moderadamente e depois do banho ainda permaneceu o cheiro de boneca bem leve e cremosinho. [EDIT] No final ele fica mais cremoso e floralzão indol BRANQUÍSSIMO, fica bem menos verde (mas AINDA verde). Por incrível que pareça eu gostei mais deste do que o 273 Rodeo Drive da mesma marca! ⚝✧✶✵☆✵✯ não recomendo blind

What a jewel! It can be a bit harsh as soon as you spray, but give it 10 min, you`ll get the creamiest warm tuberose that will put a smile on your face. And it will stay all day on skin and clothes. Projection is moderate, but it becomes a beast if you over spray. Wonderful find, a must for tuberose aficionados. I was a bit afraid of the civet, but this is not skanky or a big vintage/dated fragrance. Glad to have it in my collection, highly recommended!

This is a 90s perfume. This is very powdery. If you dont like powdery scents, this is not for you. Kind of classic and elegant perfume. Tuberose, Ylang Ylang and mimosa are the most presents notes. If you like powdery and flower scents with the 90s perfume twist, you can give to this a try.

I love this it is sweet and a very happy scent. I dont think it smells like Red Door. Red Door makes me sick to my stomach. And this one dosnt, My daughter who is 13 loves it and my sons girlfriend who is 19 like it to and plans to buy it Just give it a chance !!.

Very tuberose-y😍 like almost smells like the actual flower. Tuberose smells kinda slightly minty and I’m definitely getting that in this too

If you like te note of mimosa and tuberose, then i tink this perfume is for you. Dont be scared about the mimosa because is not super powdery perfume but it is in its dry down. If you like the note of tuberose like a mix of sweetness and green then you will probably like the tuberose in here. I recommend you to test it before you buy it. If you dont like powdery perfumes, this is a little bit powdery so this cant be a blind buy for you. Dont be scare for the aldehydes. It tend to smell like old lady (aldehydes), but not in this perfume. Its ok performance and longevity but i recommend to use it on clothes for better longevity

I can understand the bad reviews, I think many people find the aldehydes just too intense because when you first apply it ,it is very strong and harsh. I have a dab bottle rather than a spray of this,so I can control the amount I use . Once the initial slightly ammonic notes wear off,the florals make an appearance,the most noticeable to me are jasmine,mimosa and tuberose. Most of the other notes are quite subtle so you catch them fleetingly,but I find the scent does develop nicely and becomes softer, and it is fairly long lasting. I like it, but don't love it.

Opening is strong. I applied the tiniest dab from a vintage mini in good condition. At first, it seemed overwhelming, but after a few moments, I like it very much. Yes it is a powerhouse, but there is something very attractive about it. A spray bottle would be too much, as the smallest amount is best of this radio active bombshell. This could be Jessica Rabbit ́s signature scent as it almost touches the line of caricature but it is appealing at the same time. May be a candidate for laying a wood note to balance the sweet notes.

Fruity, bright, floral, green, spring. Those are the words that come to mind when I smell this perfume. It smells very nice, it's not something I would have sought out normally, but I grabbed it at the thrift store for just a few dollars. It's a cute bottle, I don't have the cap though but it looks pretty in the picture. I could imagine wearing this perfume if I went on a date in the evening. It's pleasant, and I don't personally smell the powdery notes that others seem to smell.

gtabasso's review says exactly what I was going to write. Hollywood is a lovely feminine perfume, with a cheerful, sunny attitude. I only wish it had better lasting power.

HORRIBLE, CANT STAND IT, I HATE IT, NEVER AGAIN,

I use to like everything, even the most weird perfumes. But can't like this one for nothing. I gave my bottle for someone who could appreciate it. It smells like 70's Avon's fragrances. No offense, but the world of fragrances has too much more to offer.

Dreadful! This fragrance has gone the way of our lavatory. We use it in lieu of air freshener. It has an astonishing cheapness about it.

One of the worst perfumes ever made! I was so excited to get this perfume but it stunk like dirty money. A BIG NO-NO

There are two versions of this. A number of reviews report the fact that one of these versions stinks to high heaven, and it does. That was my first experience when I ordered this. However, I sampled a smaller vial of this, and it was really good. So, buyer beware. Make sure that you are ordering the version that is the more vintage variety. ---------- I had a great experience with Fred Hayman's "273 Rodeo Drive" perfume and "Touch", both of which are fabulous with my chemistry. The first version of this: Hollywood goes on super strong. There are a couple of raw dissonant notes that clash when this is first sprayed on the skin. I tried this alone, and it was a disaster -- simply hideous with my chemistry. On a whim, I sprayed this over Lady Million as it was softening after several hours of wear - and the notes in the chord were harmonious - as if Lady Million was the "peace-maker" that tied this whole composition together. Never underestimate the role of a peacemaker or someone who is really good with mediation. This composition was needing something to bridge the gap in the composition, which turned out beautifully with Lady Million as the base. ------------ The first shipment order was actually much nicer when I tried to scrub it off -- it toned down the two screeching notes, quite a bit -- and the lift off the skin was absolutely amazing. I can see why people would like the first formula, but for me -- this had to be toned down. I felt like the soprano notes were turning sharp/sour on my skin - until I washed this off, then it had a really nice bloom to it. ---------- 2nd Version: I ordered a smaller sample of this perfume and it is labeled "Hollywood" - and smells like it carries some of the base and alto notes of the first perfume that I was sent after ordering it. In this sample version of Hollywood, this is a really great fragrance...kind of along the lines of First, without the strong aldehydes at the opening. It has a "hay" type smell to it, which is earthy and appealing. (This did NOT have the 2 notes which were clashing in the first perfume spray that I had tried). The notes wear much closer to the skin and the overall mood and vibe of this perfume is a professional, well blended, everyday perfume which could be worn in the evening. It is a versatile perfume and one that would draw compliments. This is signature worthy, I would have to sample it more to know for sure -- but I was very impressed with this. This is totally different than the "Hollywood" perfume that was sent to me in the mail, first. These were two completely different perfumes... (a little similarity in the base and alto notes - minus the screeeeeching soprano notes which clashed in the first batch that was sent to me). I would be very careful placing orders for this without actually smelling the batch first. You don't want to waste money on shipments. This is not a good blind buy because you really need to smell this with your chemistry and make sure that this will blend well with your pH levels. ------------ Fred Hayman makes a great perfume. I simply LOVE "Rodeo Drive 273" -- and "Touch" is a very feminine perfume that smells like a warm hug. If you haven't tried these, you really should put them on your "to sample" list!

A very feminine make-up bag smelling perfume. Smells pretty good and lasts pretty decent. Good buy for a collection if you can get it cheap from a discounter.

Im with Malker, this stuff is aweful! Who would ware this stuff? I don't like any of the Hayman lines of perfume, its cheap and cheap smelling!

I agree with Sheridanellis, this fragrance is similar to Lou Lou. I like the fragrance.
