Geranium Pour Monsieur

(Original review written in 2022. "Dislike") Definitely needs some time to cool down after the initial applications. The top notes have a very brief hint of toothpastey mint, and then it immediately smells like a designer citronella candle - which is not at all appealing. There is a bit of vague spice, a bit of vague animalic musks, a touch of synthetic woods. And that's about all she wrote. The performance in this first wearing was quite poor, and the whole of the experience was generally unpleasant. Later revisitations to the perfume only reinforced my initial thoughts of it smelling like a designer citronella candle. It does geranium leaf relatively well, with a hint of tasteful mint to add a cooling dimension and touches of spices and woods for a bit of complexity, but geranium leaf is far from interesting (or pleasant enough) on its own to be the only true star of this fragrance. Additionally, the performance was poor with every subsequent wearing despite application and seasonal variations, altogether making Geranium Pour Monsieur far from notable or praiseworthy in the context of the Malle line-up. And, at its price point it is certainly not within the realm of consideration for ownership. Every brand has a dud or two, and this is one of Malle's. (Updated review 2026) This one bothered me. A lot. I found it hard to accept that Malle and Ropion screwed this up. It has remained in the back of my mind for years. I got to discussing Malle with a fellow enthusiast and Geranium Pour Monsieur came up, and I mentioned my nagging disappointment. They replied with a simple statement: "Sounds about right, you smelled the Lauder reformulation." Of course. I should've known better or guessed as much. Since then, I was on a patient hunt to track down an original formulation and I finally got my hands on one from 2010, going all in to try to correct this opinion with a full bottle blind buy. What I would like to say next directly to Estee Lauder is not professional nor appropriate for a public forum, so I will let you use your imagination. This is what I was looking for all along. The geranium and mint are largely the same as they are in newer formulations, but the cinnamon and clove are far more pronounced providing the geranium with significantly needed breadth and depth. The musk and ambroxan base is actually present in this original formulation, adding a salty and sweaty skin accord that turns geranium's annoyingly chipper grin into a sultry smirk. A gentle touch of styrax helps this along. I still hold that geranium, the plant, stinks. There is a reason it repels pests and animals - myself included. However, the well-judged supporting characters incorporated into the composition give this geranium a magnetic personality that doesn't cause it to lose its fresh and invigorating feeling but adds just enough darkness and raunch to keep it interesting and strip it of its puerile annoyance. Additionally, unlike the new formulations, the original wears long into the day. This, the original, is superb and what I hoped Geranium Pour Monsieur to be. But what's the point. Though I would love to add it to heavy rotation in the spring and summer months do I really want to keep scouring the aftermarket for expensive vintage formulations? No, not really. But at least now my mind is at ease and I have finally experienced what I needed to all along.

Weeks before, Song for the Rose was my default warm weather scent. Already, it has been usurped by Geranium pour Monsieur. Normally, I'd look forward to colder weather to break out my jackets and heavier winter fragrances. With GpM, I have something to tip the balance towards the heat, towards Summer. It's the only scent I've tried that physically cools you down due to the cold sensation of menthol. The opener is bright, clean, fresh and minty, perfect for a pick me up. Sweetness of light rosy-amber compliments the brightness of the opener creating a complex and unique accord. Although the spices are not immediately apparent, they're present to add an additional layer and depth to the scent (the effect is very hard to describe). I can also smell elemi or frankincense imparting a lemony spiciness. Mint subsides after 30 minutes leaving a fresh aromatic sweetness thickened with clove. There is surprising depth and complexity to this fragrance, for what should be a light fresh scent. Two to three hours later, the freshness subsides, leaving musk and benzoin to reveal the 'creamy' undercurrent hidden beneath the higher frequency notes all along. The entire ride produces such starkly different transformations that it exemplifies modern perfumery. Though longevity of the fresher top notes lasts 2-3 hours, the base stays on for over 7. I'm able to catch the scent long after I think its gone. On my first wear, only after an hour, there was a ringing, growing recognition that I had smelled this before. This wasn't from sampling earlier in the year. It must've been the first time I I was introduced to Malle over 8 years ago. I wasn't an enthusiast, didn't think anything of the scent or know anything about the brand. The only thing I took away was the memory of the stoic looking bottles. This story has taken an almost decade long turn before rediscovering the scent, falling for it and owning a bottle. I've come full circle and the closure I get from it is delicious. Give GpM a go, if you can overcome the associations to toothpaste, you may discover a masterpiece.

It's incredible how much a nose can develop and learn to distinguish perfume notes. Never has this seemed more apparent to me than now, having just sprayed GPM on my inner elbows while lazing around on a Sunday. The first time I got my nose on this in the boutique on Avenue Victor Hugo (RIP) it was on card, and I smelled almost the whole range with the wonderful sales assistant (my first time experiencing Frédéric Malle fragrances). I immediately thought "toothpaste blast"! Months later I got my hands on three 10mls in a set, and wore it properly, and of course I noticed a whole lot more, notably that the dry down was vastly different to the opening, and there was more complexity to the minty geranium (although it was still giving me Colgate freshness). I noticed some sort of fixative base after a few hours, my least favourite bit of this scent. Now, today, I get spices! My first thoughts were "woah, this is skanky". I never noticed the skank before. Perhaps it's the cloves. I've been delving into retro spicy scents recently (Tabu, Équipage, Derby, Opium, Sybaris, Mandate, Parfum Sacré...) plus some less retro ones (Serge Noire, Fate Man, Figment Woman, Heaven Can Wait, 8 88...) and so I feel like my nose has started perceiving spices differently. Géranium Pour Monsieur seems like a different scent now, a shifting, complex, earthy, spicy, green, foresty bouquet. While the mint is there, it's far from my mind. Of course I shouldn't blow my own sophisticated nose horn too much, this is actually a testament to the genius of this perfume. I'm really taken aback by how much can come from a simple little flacon. It's never going to feel like me, as in I don't think I'm ever going to buy a full bottle, because I just don't wear it that much. It's more olfactive art to me than the type of scent I reach for, but what a marvel, honestly.

I have to say I really enjoyed this fragrance, I kinda expected monsieur geranium to be a modified version of Monsieur, despite being from different perfumers and the fact FM doesn't do flankers, not sure why I thought that then? In any case I love geranium as an ingredient, it's up there with labdanum as a favourite of mine and I appreciate that it does have somewhat of a minty quality but this is definitely amped up by the addition of a hefty mint note. I really like the smell of fresh mint and always have it growing in my garden but I can't say that I like it so much in perfume. I suppose the little hint in some perfumes is nice and I do like stuff like Guerlain Homme intense so why not? This stuff is UBER minty and opens with a real smack in the face of mint, but it's still very refined and not too sharp and in some senses addictive. There's a kind of woody powder surrounding it and hints of clove and anise but very fresh like a fennel sort of vibe. It's lovely and as the minty smell dies back (which incidenatally takes a couple of hours) the geranium really shines as a lovely thing. Masculine, clean and just plain lovely, I'm huge fan of geranium and this smells very high quality and precise in it's delivery. It's a low lying scent for me which does project to begin with but becomes more subdued. I have to say I adored the drydown, I thought it was heavenly but makes me want to seek out the Guerlain and Dyptique listed in the smells like because I'd like a cheaper alternative. Without smelling either this could be far superior but a very nice perfume when the geranium starts to shine and the base comes out later on. I liked it.

A few months back, an upstart indie perfumer told me that he was going to revolutionize the fragrance world by using mint in his compositions as it has "never been done before." I cocked my head like a befuddled Bichon Frise as I immediately thought of Geranium Pour Monsieur. Impressed with his certainty and confidence, I attempted to share outstanding examples of mint in perfumery, including this one, to which he replied that he had no interest in learning about other perfumer's works. Godspeed, I guess? Geranium Pour Monsieur is indeed just as much geranium leaves as it is mint, though some who give it a sniff would have you guessing otherwise, as they can't seem to shake off the association of mint with toothpaste and mouthwash. I can respect that, but the mockery some have toward Geranium Pour Monsieur leaves me feeling suspicious as to their discernment of scent even if particular notes don't please them personally. I for one, perhaps because I am familiar with fresh mint leaves, only perceive their beauty here as they accompany, even enhance the geranium in Dominique Ropion's composition. Geranium is one of my favorite notes in fragrance, and to my nose this is much more geranium than mint (a whole lot of Pelargonium graveolens oil!), but the latter does play a significant role, just as much as the anise, clove, cinnamon fleshes out the accord and makes this a more modern interpretation of an old school men's aromatic, with exceptional ingredients and dynamics. In the dry down I detect benzoin, sheer white musks, a somewhat powdery sandalwood, and traces of geranium are still there. Truly stunning, in my humble opinion.

Geranium Pour Monsieur (or indeed Pour the women who know Monsieur, for this is a unisex fragrance to my nose) highlights the cool green aspects of geranium with the even cooler green of a sparkling mint accord. This scent is not in the least "dental" or toothpaste twinged, the mint is more bracing than that. The geranium is lovely and together these two notes, which endure throughout the life of the scent, make this among the most cool and refreshing fragrances you'll find. This fragrance, along with Guerlain's minty Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca, excels in hot weather. I use this scent when I want to make a change from citrus fresh fragrances during extended periods of intensely hot weather. There is enough substance in the base notes (musk, incense and resins) here that this scent also works on cooler sunny spring days. Perhaps for this same reason, I prefer the previously mentioned Herba Fresca on days where the temperature soars above 40° (about 104° F). There is a great few minutes in the progression of this fragrance where a cinnamon note asserts itself, marking the turn from the very mint-forward opening phase to a slightly richer, geranium dominated dry down. Aside from this transition, the progression here is somewhat minimal. Given the light structure of this scent, it is not surprising that longevity is not much beyond 4-5 hours here. Projection, on the other hand, is formidable for the first hour, so be judicious with the sprays until you learn how this fragrance spreads off your skin. Geranium Pour Monsieur is virtually unique and a true love for me in spring and summer. Highly recommended.

Brilliant, original freshy. I'm coming to the very end of a 100ml bottle of this, perhaps one or two wears left, and I'd be remiss not to write a review somewhere for this wonderful perfume. A supposed precursor to the much more famous Portrait of a Lady by the same brand, which is a glowing red rose, Geranium pour Monsieur is a glowing green geranium and mint scent. It is (in my humble opinion) the best mint perfume of all time, and is one of my all-time favourites from the brand. GpM opens with an ultra fresh, clarifying mint note with lots of flickering herbal nuances. It's so refreshing, like an instant splash of ice-cold water which makes it perfect for summer wear. It has a glassy texture, and isn't actually especially green. It's bright but not sharp, transparent... there's a lot of stillness in the perfume. Some compare it to toothpaste and while I agree that the mint is strong enough to warrant such a comparison, GpM has a luxuriant feel which evokes a very high quality, natural, leafy mint which has just been misted with cooling water. Imagine a fountain of crystal clear, icy water which is scented with mint. In the drydown (~6 hours) the texture transitions from hard to soft, as white musks and softly milled spices rise up as the mint dies away. As with some other Frederic Malles, the name is a tad questionable to me. The mint is every bit as strong as the geranium if not stronger, and this is totally unisex to my nose and would smell amazing on a woman. If you like mint notes this is an absolute must-try, 10/10.

Before I get misunderstood here: I love Geranium pour monsieur. I have it, wear it and recommend anyone to give it a proper try. I used to worship it until I sprayed some bugspray in Thailand and thought: "what? this is it!!!" you know the very cheap and not chemical citronella bugspray you can get in supermarkets, the one that irritates your skin upon spraying as if someone was burning you and smells so strong. Well... this stuff is 99% the same at the beginning. It doesnt mean it smells bad at all but given the price and the extra benefit the anti mosquitoes provides... However, after the initial stage, these two cousins drift apart and it is then when the Malle inspires the best odes I can think of. The drydown is gorgeous, sexy and longlasting. I always think of eucalyptus, not mint. The amazing finishing is classy, of wonderful quality and definitely different from any other niche fragrance I have sampled. A bit weird, yes, but fabulous. This morning I put this on and when I met my friend's daughter (she's 12) she screamed: "who is wearing bugspray??? there are no mosquitoes here!!!" I kindly replied: "oh no no... it is not bugspray, it might give you that impression but it is actually..." and she stopped me: "it is bugspray, fullstop". It's up to you to decide if this is worth the money... I chose to fall in love but I cannot deny this one also burns upon application.

The aroma of crushing generous handfuls of fresh mint and geranium leaves in your hands. This is a wonderfully green and invigorating masterpiece, almost able to take your breath away with it's mentholated cooling spirit. It's one to use when you wish to wake yourself up and refresh yourself. Much like splashing your face with ice cold water. I even find that it actually creates the sensation of coldness upon the skin surface where you've sprayed yourself, which I would assume is to do with the concentration of peppermint oil found it this perfume. This cooling phenomenon is unlike any other perfume I know of, which makes this one special to me and a pleasure to use in the heat of the summer (although I like it all year round). This is mainly a love story between mint and geraniums. I don't find the mint cheap or toothpastesque in this one at all, instead it's a dark herbaceous, highly aromatic, emerald green, which sparkles at the center. The geranium here is photorealistic with its spicy and herbal edge exagerated by the use of sharp, dry cloves, the star anise and a hint of cinnamon, which adds a little warmth after the ice in the opening. However, overall this remains a cold profile, despite the spicy notes happening. At the base we find a rich woods and musk blend, along with a little incense hidden there at the back, if you go looking for it.

This is a masterpiece and a magical composition, lovely in its restraint. The opening bursts with anise and fresh, crisp, high quality mint, picked from the garden, with dirt on it. Peppery geranium, spicy cinnamon and clove join the mix to spice and zest it up. After a beat, everything is mellowed by the benzoin and styrax resins, and smoothed out with creamy sandalwood in a musky base. There is just the very slightest smokiness underneath, but it’s extremely subtle and barely noticeable. There is nothing out of balance here, and all the ingredients are perfectly complementary to one another, causing me to appreciate notes that I sometimes don’t appreciate so much. For instance, the benzoin is reigned in and not allowed to become cloyingly sweet, and the sandalwood is restrained and of a quality that does not become overly soapy laundry detergent. The mint is fresh and crisp, but reigned in and complemented perfectly by the other notes, and the cinnamon and clove are just a touch, and are not untamed. The anise adds interest and doesn’t take over (though I’ll admit I do love anise and licorice, so I never mind when it does). This composition shows how any note can be pleasant, depending how it’s handled. Even though it’s marketed to men, I’d enjoy wearing this very much, and probably will be seeking out a FB

When sniffing the atomizer, it smells exactly like a mixture of fluoride toothpaste and white tiger balm. Right after I apply it to my skin, it smells different. I can detect a strong, fresh mint note with a mixture of spices and geranium. It smells green, floral, and fresh spicy. It is cold rather than warm, soft rather than acrid, and very refreshing - smelling it up close gives me a feeling that I associate with nasal spray. It feels like it cleanses my nose despite not being sharp at all. It has a lot going on and it is very interesting. After maybe 15-30 minutes, I begin to pick up more spices. It has started to feel warmer. Even though the mint has started to fade, I think it is the star anise and the cloves that carry on the minty feeling while adding a slight sweetness. The cinnamon is dry and powdery, and adds warmth. The dry-down is dominated by sandalwood and probably the cleanest musk I have come across. It is now slightly warmer and sweeter than it was in the opening thanks to the resins, and it has maintained its minty spicyness. Even if it is warmer now than it was in the opening, it is still very cold and fresh. This is definitely a spring/summer wear. One of the most refreshing fragrances I have smelled, it is just pure freshness. 8/10.

I would have to disagree with the people saying that this is geranium through and through. The geranium sings in harmony with the other aromatics and spices here, so much so that you would think the mint for geranium, and yet confuse the geranium for mint. Of course it sounds pretentious, because it is. This is sweet mint on a bed of crushed geranium flowers and leaves, invigorating and refreshing but not eye-wateringly minty like mouthwash or toothpaste. I mean it makes sense that that is what first pops into our heads when we smell something overtly minty and spicy, but I just don't see it anymore. I would say that the projection dies down quite a bit after about 30 minutes, and the minty murmur along the skin reaches no more than half an arm's length. It catches on the wind, for sure, but it clings close to the body. As it lives on, the aromatic geranium persists as the mint recedes and they finally mix into one amalgam of fresh, never letting up on the sweetness. The woody base notes really provide a proper a fulfilling foundation to what we would consider fleeting top notes. This has been one of my recent dumb reaches, because it evokes a morning freshness that we inevitably associate with good oral hygeine. How clean!

There’s a reason this smells just like toothpaste/mouthwash, and that’s because that’s exactly what it was modelled after. In interviews Frederic said it was inspired by an old mouthwash his father used to use (“Botot Water”)... so yes, it smells like a gentleman’s oral hygiene product, that’s kinda the point of it. Fresh. Clean. Now on paper, this shouldn’t work... who wants to spend this kind of money to smell like toothpaste? But man... it just does work, it really does. I don’t know what it is about this scent that intrigues me so much, maybe it’s the fact that Frederic was audacious enough to actually make a niche fragrance that smells like mouthwash and maybe it’s what Mr Ropion has masterfully done with the notes in the background to somehow make it smell classy and refined, but man... it just works. The base of this fragrance is also the base of Portrait of a Lady (which was designed as a female version of this base DNA). This tells you that there’s more going on here than first meets the nose, you just have to give it time to settle down a bit and come alive on your skin. Try it. Just try it. You might hate it, you might love it, but just try it. On skin. Give it time to settle. Man, this stuff is fascinating.

My first thoughts:"its Odd!" Day second - "I need to understand why its so odd yet..intriguing" Third day - "I hate geranium, apart of that its great" Day four - "I will just spray tiny little bit on the sleeve of my coat" Day five - "I got it, I love it, maybe I EVEN like geranium now?..." I would agree if first thing that people smell here is fresh, minty toothpaste, not even toothpaste itself but freshly cleansed and rinsed by sort of minty Listerine mouth) Odd, isnt it?..) You feel so cold and fresh inside, like whole your flesh got an extra internal vacuuming. then what! Geranium, real, big time real geranium fresh leaves, rubbed in palms, - my cat loved to destroy Granny's geranium pots, so I know the exact smell of crashed geranium stalks. And after all this super-clean, agressive even freshness you suddenly relaxed - anis...Ohhh greek Ouzo, I love you, people who love ouzo like me will understand - its unlike anything else and you still able to have this taste IN your mouth. Last and final accord - you got spiced and incensed. So overall, this fragrance that cooks you! first it will clean you, then it will soak you in alcohol, put spices on top and eat you alive. Cant be without this monster now.

Reference Geranium I truly enjoy this fragrance. The main player here is Geranium. Geranium is a very interesting note to me, it is a floral, aromatic, and complex scent with minty and medicinal facets. Geranium is an important note that has been used in masculine fragrances throughout history. I think the best description of the fragrance comes from the brand: "Geranium Pour Monsieur is certainly a new alternative for men who are searching for ultra-chic freshness combined with natural essences framed with modern technologies." This proofs when you give freedom to a perfumer, he can go beyond marketing and create something unique, original, and timeless. A good option for masculine sgnature. This fragrance is both classic and modern. Classic because of the concept behind that, the notes used, and the timeless Genetelman effect it has, but at the same time it's modern because it does not very complex fragrance with many notes and layers. But its simple and right to the point. Very elegant fragrance for successful, smart, and mature guys. 8.5/10

Fuzzy, dewy geranium buds, not yet in bloom, on a cool spring morning. Extremely soft and extremely delicate. I'd be shocked if this isn't the exact same geranium that's in Rose and Cuir. The mint is somewhat lost on me because I'm just realizing I've developed partial anosmia to it by using peppermint soap for years; I still get the overall brightness it lends to the scent, however, especially the opening. The anise is similarly brilliant, in a shimmer-y sort of way. The rest of it (cinnamon, cloves) melts into a delicious cool, sweet spice for me; it's something you might smell in a high-end bakery. There's something else here, a darker quality I can just barely pick up on (maybe the musk combined with the incense? though I can't say I get any smoke here) that pushes it over the top for me. It's as if those buds I mentioned earlier briefly flicker from bright red to a deep wine color when you're not looking. This could easily be my signature scent.

Tested twice at the perfume counter on paper strip and I really love this perfume! Totally agree that it should be named Minthe Pour Monsieur. The opening is such a beautiful blast of fresh mint that instantly freshen you up. And hours down, I get this constant minty-spicy-geranium until the scent disappear totally. I was quite amazed that I didn't really catch the rest of the notes despite the fact that most perfumes with cinnamon, sandalwood, incense tends to overpower other notes in the pefume pyramid. The next closest perfume to this is Diptyque's Eau De Minthe, except that the mint in EdM does slowly fades off and dry down to a more floral-patchouli scent. As a mint lover, I will definitely get a bottle of this. And in fact, I've already placed an order. Many have mentioned the way mint opens with a sensory equivalent to a slap. It is almost as if I had picked some fresh mint and rubbed it between my thumb and forefinger. It is a fresh mint. A lot has been written about toothpaste and this scent, and I have to say it is a bit like comparing Bud Light to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Both are beers but the difference is in the subtle but exceptionally high quality ingredients the high end products include. I know of no toothpaste that has a distinct and lasting geranium scent. Ropion has produced some of the top fragrances of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. He does not have to make every scent a beast like Portrait of a Lady. Is this a masculine scent? To me anyone could wear this in warm weather. It is something that people will notice when you pass by but in a low key way. Some bouquets are meant to be smelled best when up close. Ropion has created another great fragrance.

Everytime i smell it i feel so emotional. GPM is for sure in my top 3 list FM-s (maybe even no.1 but is hard to say) This scent makes me feel younger, it is so nostalgic yet sophisticated. I’m also feeling a bit sad because i can’t smelling it again like for the first time! That was....love at the first sniff. For those who still don’t know, GPM is an older brother of POAL which they are smell indentical in the base. Opening part it can be too much for many, smells like lot of mint in natures form, bolded cold, it leaves an truly cooling efect on skin for the first hour. This blend of geranium and mint together can make the pseudo-smelling of citronella, but it except citronella, GPM unfortunately doesn’t kills mosquitoes. Late in the drydown becomes woody smooth, spicy sweeter and warmer. Performances is great, it lasts all day long. Fresh / crisp / clean / bright My 1st choice for the hotest days.

I grew up with both geranium and mint in my backyard, and I’m a fan of FM, so I was excited to try this and purchased a well used bottle. Mint and geranium have very similar attributes, and mint pops in the opening, but this is a true geranium frag. I got some geranium essential oil, mixed it with a neutral carrier oil and wore it on one wrist while wearing GPM on the other. The ‘mintiness’ of GPM was similar to the geranium oil whisks the anise really popped as the differentiator. There is a sweetness in GPM that might be the clove and benzoin, but I’m not sure. It’s nice and doesn’t smell cheap or overpower. Sometimes I get a whisp of smoke, sometimes I don’t. In the end I think this is nice, versatile and I feel it’s white classy (after the first 5 minutes), so I’ll wear it to work when I’m dressing up. I also wore it dressed down on a tropical island it also felt suitable.

Soapy mint/anise combo, supported by a strong geranium that will prevent the mint to express any hint of sweetness. It's sparkling, refreshing, but not as a vulgar summer blue fragrance. No. It will always stay very classy. Projection was moderate/strong in the first hour, then became moderate for another 2-3hours before settling as a skin scent. Overall decent performance, but that is expected at that price point. Will I buy it? No. After having smelt a lot of fragrances, I think it's a great (even if very linear and not really original) take on the mint/geranium combo, but still, much too pricey for what it is. $100 for a 3.4oz bottle seems the fair price for this one. Over that, there are more interesting options around. Spring/Summer days, 30+

The fragrance opens with an explosion of icy mint, and I mean MINT in every sense of the word. Within moments the intensity of the mint is mellowed by star anise, cinnamon and a touch of clove warming the icy opening and giving life to the fragrance. After a few more minutes on the skin the fragrance evolves again as geranium rises to the top lending a beautiful green aromatic edge. GERANIUM POUR MONSIEUR is effortlessly sophisticated, entirely office appropriate and a little bit fun. So if you haven’t had the opportunity to get your nose on this yet, you are missing out on one of my favourites from this incredible house. Performance is excellent to. I was intrigued by all of the promising reviews posted on Fragrantica and elsewhere of this, and had been dying to try it out as it sounded right up my alley. Fast forward to today, when I finally got the chance to spray this on my wrist - love at first scent! I fully intend to purchase this after receiving my bonus - and I could definitely see this as my signature scent. Truly a lovely modern take on gernanium infused with mint and spices - it is dynamic and seems to project a great deal. It is light, fun, interesting and not overly masculine, perfect balance on this one! I love how it is both minty fresh and also warm at the same time. Will write a full review after purchasing a sample, or dare I say, full bottle?

My signature Fragrance !! I love mint which is actually the main note with geraniol (like geranium). A freshness, even coldness few minutes after application: incredible ! The top and middle note are mint & geraniol, then scent evolves to become incredibly warm, hard to describe but it stay for long long time in a confortable warm, exclusive and unique note. This perfume is particular, not so easy to wear but original and different from others for miles !! Edit: This is a real compliment getter !!!! I own a lot of perfumes and never gotten particularly complimented with, but when I went out with GPM, girls felt in love with it !! Now I wear it mainly for my girlfriend for special occasion :) she loves it !

Frederic Malle's Geranium Pour Monsieur is one of my favorite perfumes. What a masterpiece. I have the newest version of it now (got a bottle in early 2024) and I think it might be weaker than the original. It also smells slightly different, even though I still love how it smells. I recommend you get a new tester before purchasing again. ---------------- >>> EDIT: My skin might not hold on to perfume well. I tried GPM today again after a while and it worked fine. So I could be wrong about the performance and about my assumption that it smells differently now. In any case, the perfume is still BEAUTIFUL. One of the BEST perfumes out there. If you can afford it, it's worth it.

As an Australian, I celebrate Christmas in Summer. Sometimes it can be overwhelmingly hot and for that reason, scents like this will be worn. As I applied it, I was taken straight to a typical Australian Christmas day. Luxurious, herbaeceous and glorious. The mint is the first thing you'll probably smell with a touch of sweet anise. Then the earthy geranium appears, as if straight from an Aesop body wash. Cloves and other spices do appear, disappear slowly after only leaving the geranium, anise and mint (but far less strong than in the opening) I'd buy it. It lasts a while, smells great and just feels like a gentleman's cologne from the 1900s.

I am on cloud nine for finally finding the perfect summer scent for myself. It is a real masterpiece in my opinion. Not choking, truly fresh, realistic geranium with mint. Man, this is perfect blending. I think it is totaly unisex and very suitable for madames too :) Geranium is usually perceived as a minty note in human brain so it is understandable that there are many comments about this perfume being tootpasty or minty. However mint dissolves after the opening and the geranium lasts forever. I love how these two combined together. Also the incense and the cloves add uniqueness to this perfume. Geranium Pour Personnes... Perfect 10/10!

I see why it's similar to Diptyque Eau De Minthé. Very bright mint opening, almost toothpaste/mouthwash like quality, but dries down is a different story. Eau De Minthé is fresh, strong and modern "sporty fresh" scent AKA more mass appeal, not a bad fragrance at all. Whereas, FM Geranium PM is way more complex and well blended. Harsh opening to some people but let it blends with your skin chemical it will transform into a very professional, clean, dry and safe scent. It reminds me of a well put together doctor. Clean, trustworthy and reliable person that you enjoy his charisma and the way he get his job done in a very professional way.

Smells like toothpaste. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily but it's also not something you like to smell like every single day in my humble opinion. For every day wear the fragrance is too monotone and offers little development from the opening. Yes,the toothpaste vibe settles down just a little bit and the musky character gets a bit stronger but overall it still emits a pretty strong colgate vibe. I would not call this sexy, daring, evocative or adventurous in any way but it will make you smell minty fresh in the purest sense of the words. Lasting power is pretty great

This is a minty fresh smell, and I can smell the geranium as well – I am not that found of Geraniums – In the 80’s many people had Geraniums on their windowsill and I have never been impressed by these flowers nor their beauty nor their smell, though the mixed composition smells really well this is a typical niche fragrance, it smells very different than all the designer fragrances, it’s a more daring fragrance, the silage is not overwhelming, the longevity could have been better for the price-tag, so that keeps me from buying a full bottle

I love this! I bought it the summer of 2018, the summer where we had a three month heat wave in northern Europe. This one was the perfume I reached for every day. The shower gel is fantastic too, and it is so refreshing and cool that it almost has an icing effect on the skin. Geranium pour Monsieur is minty fresh, but so much more that a toothpaste smell. The geranium note is realistic, and the dry down is heavenly with spices, incense, benzoin and a bit of sandalwood. I don ́t get much musk though. And by the way this is totally unisex.

When I really like a perfume it's hard for me to review it. This is one of the best perfumes I've known. It starts off like a very fresh and cold mint that grows into a torn geranium leaf, which is very natural, green and refreshing - and yet calm. If you take a geranium stem and break it in two is smells exactly like this perfume. The quality of this fragrance is extremely high. It is like therapy in a bottle, so refreshing, beautiful. It saves me during the summer months. You really cannot stop smelling it. 10/10

A freshness coming from the brain, not only from the nose. A deep invention, recreation of mint-cold brought to the next level. LSD laced geranium and that oh so magnifico note of anise! What I find unique, surprising and exciting about this fragrance, is that the musk holds to the skin for hours and yet that cooling-bomb mint-geranium-anise keeps on, endures on and on, just like no cologne could ever be able to even dream of lasting? It is as transparent as glass, in my eyes. And makes you want to go out.

If you're focused on the mint in this fragrance, you don't "get it". The mint lasts about five minutes and the cologne blossoms into a lightly floral, heavily woody clean smell that is mostly incense and sandalwood. I wouldn't say this is only appropriate for summer, once it comes down to the basenotes, this will work in any season. It's a pretty perfect combination, some bracing mint to wake you up followed by wonderful incense/sandalwood that is completely appropriate for any situation.

Mint I would say industrial mint same as the ones that are used in toothpastes and mouthwash so it’s not actually easy to wear especially if you associate this with cheapness To me I loved it The mint is undoubtedly crazy but in a good way In the mid and dry down the mint tones down by the hour and it settles to a very creamy base i would associate it with sandalwood mainly but beware the mint is still there ever so slightly Longevity is very good Favorable in the hot weather definitely

There is a part in Anastatia where she talks about her grandma's mint perfume being spilled on a carpet. That's how it must have smelled for me. It's super clean, has a good longevity near the skin and it's kind of cold in a way. I really like it. I saw a lot of people mentioning Eau de minthé from Diptyque, it would be the poor cousin of Géranium pour monsieur, it smells more like an old school guy cologne where Géranium is the refined, unisex version even if I love both.

I could say " WOW " and fell in LOVE when I first sniffed Geranium Pour Monsieur bcoz this smells weird and surprisingly fresh at the same time. IMO this is a menthol balm combined with camphor and sage plus a little bit of marshmallow/cotton candy but not too sweet, smell so unique, it's not that as same as toothpaste or mouthwash, there is something more delighted, sexy and brighter, the best for uplifting my mood for a very hot and humid day.

Frederic Malle Geranium pour Monsieur (2009) - Freshly shaved - #dominiqueropion ‘s creation was my first frederic malle. It was love at first sniff - a shock of mouthwash mint, followed by beautiful geranium that had part rose, part fresh mint. Yes the geranium is longer lasting than others, but what got me interested was the base of spices, sandalwood and incense. 10 years ago this was unique and creative. Today, it still is.

Gorgeous perfume! Masterpiece! I am a woman and I can say that this one should be called pour monsieur et madames because I find it totally unisex. And gorgeous! The opening is strong minty geranium and that part is not my favorite. But after 5-10min it transforms into the most beautiful unisex rose-geranium combo supported by soft eucaliptys and incense. Just beautiful. It lifts me up like no other perfume. Love it!

I have only few words for Geranium Pour Monsieur. It's about the juxtaposition of hot and cold: a cool - and in this case almost rapturous - mint and geranium cuddled by the warmth of clove and musk in a seamless transition. It feels like body heat under the covers in an air-conditioned bedroom. Crisp, calm, comforting and relaxing. For balmy nights and lazy mornings. A masterful fragrance.

Fortunately I don't get toothpaste. I think it's a wonderful freshy for casual or the office. I wore TDH for a long time and whilst the fragrances have nothing to do with each other on a note basis, I get a similar feeling as they're both fresh and at the same time sophisticated. GPM develops over the wear and it stays interesting. I get full work day's wear from it.

I've tried this early in July were the temp. was 35C and i rejected it. Was given to a friend the same day i bought it....yesterday i went to the store and i bought again a sample to see it now in autumn...and indeed i loved it...now is not all mint, now the geranium comes out and is great. truly unique perfume and definitely i will buy it again....

Magical - opens up with soft peppermint and notes of citronella (but in a pleasant way, not mosquito repellent way), followed by delightful notes of musk and myrhh. I absolutely love with this, and am tempted to splurge on yet another FM perfume! If you like the top notes for a cheaper version I’d recommend Diptique’s Citronelle and Geranium.

I received a tester of this with a purchase of a different perfume. Neglected to read the 'pour Monsieur' part of the label, and applied it to my wrist. Instant love. I don't care that it's for men, I absolutely adore it. It's so close to being perfect. Super fresh, and perfect for summer.

This doesn't smell like toothpaste at all to me. Yes, it's very minty, but it's more herbal than anything. It's not clove or cinnamon heavy by any means. The incense in here gives it sort of an old school bathroom soap kind of feel. It's a very clean/fresh scent.

Update a year in: i truly love this masterpiece! Perfect for hot days or days when you want to feel the freshness and bracing effect of mint, geranium, anise. Blasting freshness with spiciness, bracing but deep, classy, strong. One of my favorites.

A blast of freshness. Androgyny is in its DNA. Some may hate a perfume's top note smells like a mouthwash, on the contrary, I want to smell like a fresh kiss. I want to bathe in this scent. The ultimate intimacy should smell this heavenly clean.

Spicy, insence and styrax base which is build up by geranium and mint. You get blasted by the mint and rose like opening, very nice combo indeed. It dries down to a fresh, spicy benzoine fragrance that is just awesome. Unisex. 91

Tried this today and I was disappointed...it's smells like a toothpaste, nothing from geranium...and I through that this was one of the best FM as per reviews....nothing! only mint, MINT POUR MONSIEUR is the correct name.
