Rose Tonnerre

Une Rose (AC9, 2019, 50 ml., barely use - 70% Alcohol ratio) Extension 2 on Friday 24 January 2025 00:47 hrs. FINAL ASSETMENT I declutter my fragrance collection down recently. Currently, Geranium Red Rose is my weapon of Choice for Charm and Alluring mood. I do 2-3 times wear of Une Rose recently in past 3 months. I think this is the "Best Dark Rose Fragrance".. But it is not a rose in their true habitat, it a manmade rose. During the wear, The scent prime time is around first 4 hours. Just enough as a weapon of choice of the night. The harmonic of Bloom red-rose until it starts to be a mist of shopiticate red musk is just right, vanish sleek. It smells Naturally correct. However, once it post 4 marks dry-down it the aroma chemical woody-amber. Start taking the stage, then it is not a really good show. It's ok, kind of crisp musk amber experience you often meet when it reach far dry down of these rosy scent. Une Rose is stable during the wear; gives a moderate silage (slight stronger than arm range) and strong scent tails. It's kind of covering you with good charming silage. In the first 4 hours. Still, it will be in my collection as one of greatest manmade rose with beautiful dial facet. I will use this as weapon of choice at night along with POTL (It less mysterious). For personal likeness, I really enjoy how "Love Kills" walk. It seems to have higher Natural and Envelope across the wear. And Closer to nature of Rose. I don't think I need any further assessment for Une Rose. Extension 3: 28 Jan - I remove POAT from a list and with venture future. ===== Extension 1 on October 7, 2024 NOTE on REFORMULATION My perfumer friend, creator of Butterfly Reserved Collection (local brand in Thailand) told me that only 1 ingredient missing is “Karanal”. Karanal is super amber found in 1987. As fragrance ingredient, Super Amber always extend the longevity of formula well as projection. Unique quality of Karanal is being Amber with Green leaf tint, to date still much a unique profile for Karanal. They is no replacement yet. Due to recent IFRA registration, Rose Tornerre, revamp of original Une Rose is missing this ingredient however no impact - how rose construct, only lower the performance / projection. I don’t think you have to hunt down Une Rose.. Rose Tornerre will be just fine. ===== First impression (July 12, 2024 10:10 hrs.) I would totally agree & disagree at the same time That this smell like La Fille de Berlin by Serge Lutens. It’s yes and no. Yes, they both are rose fragrance and they both are properly constructed in the name of rose solifores. Rose solifores fragrance are based on nameable repeating materials (Phenylethyl alcohol, Geraniol, Citronellol), sometime natual ingredients like Rose Absolute or Rose Essential Oil and support ingredients like β-ionone, β-damascone, β-damascenone, Rose Oxide, Raspberry ketone even patchouli. What’s make them difference? It is all about dial ratio to make a perfect rose solifores. MOD after MOD, If you keep sniff rose fragrance, you notice - sometime, some rose leans fruity, some rose leans velvety, some rose leans jammy. It all about dial ratio... Une Rose, might be only fragrance that use all rose material I can name of, pure rose EO resulting in balmy quality, velvet feel, no sharp patchouli, metalic rose oxide is noticeable yet merge to profile, develop to strong rose and dry down powdery, with green touch all of this is very natural smelling, perfect rose with stem. However, after all, you can conclude that This is just another rose solifores, and I agree. I don’t mind admit the truth. There is no such a big gap between Le Fille de Berlin and Une Rose, but For me Une Rose, is, in all regards, perfect-ever-created rose solifores, seamless, masterly blend. I am truly happy with my 50 ml. bottle. As appreciable wearable perfect art... Do you need a bottle of Une Rose.. (?) My personal assumption as any rose lover. Any rose fragrances are easily appreciable.. from us. (Ps. I received this bottle from my friend on swap, thank you, thank you..)

"Une Rose" is, it seems to me, a misnomer because this fragrance smells like a few different roses: the opening rose is pure, strong, sweet and jammy--If you have ever had the experience of opening a floral cooler containing roses after it has been closed for a while (I once worked in a supermarket with a floral section), that is what this aspect of UR recalls for me; the next rose note I get from this scent is a green, bright rose that has not yet come to full bloom and is cool and crisp; & the last rose I experience is dried, earthy, roses in an urn at a grave (but not in a morbid way). In fact, as I write this blurb, I've begun to think that perhaps it really is just one rose note here and that it is being influenced by the notes surrounding it. The incredibly sweet opening may involve the honey adding to the rose. The green geranium and pelargonium morphing the rose into a minty, green iteration of itself may give rise to the notes in phase two of the scent. In phase three, the truffle and musk may giving rise to the dry, earthy rose also encountered in this fragrance. Either way, this rose scent is fulsome, complex and far from being a mere solifleur like rose oil on skin. While this scent is all rose, it is rose that is evolving and changing its character. I believe this scent is unisex even though it is marketed toward women. The closest fragrance I can think of when considering smell alikes is Toy Boy by Moschino which has similar transitioning rose notes and is marketed towards men. I am a guy who wears Toy Boy and UR and enjoys both. Projection here is strong and longevity is considerable. In high heat, this scent is too much for me. Indeed, while the sweetness in this scent is made tolerable for those who do not enjoy syrupy scents by the moderating effect of the red wine (still in the barrel) note in the opening, this fragrance can easily fall across the line into sickening sugariness in summer heat or if you over spray. Use this scent judiciously and it is delightful. In fact, given the prices it commands, you will probably want to spray this fragrance cautiously just to reduce the hit to your bank balances. I do not use this scent for business situations because of the formidable way it fills a room with the smell of roses. I do not like to wear powerful fragrances in work settings. But for a night out, this stuff is great. (If you are compliment driven, I will let you know that this fragrance has garnered many unsolicited compliments for me in party and club settings--even in Dubai where heady, strong scents are, shall we say, rather more generally used than in many other places.) I like rose fragrances and love this scent. If you are a rose lover, you will almost certainly love Une Rose too. If you're not a rose fan, give this one a miss. Now, is this a single rose like the name suggests or several different roses playing together? I guess I don't have a clue. But whatever makes this scent smell as it does, I love it.

This perfume has been quite a personal journey for me. I bought it rather quickly after discovering it on paper one day, and then wearing it on my skin the next. I grew up in Bulgaria, and one side of my family was of Turkish origin. My childhood was naturally full of that sweet Bulgarian-Turkish Rosa damascena. It came not only as flowers in gardens, parks and vases, but also as rose oil vials that are somehow always lying around when you live in Bulgaria, as my beloved rose petal jam spread on bread, as inexpensive everyday rose-scented soaps and cosmetics, as rose-flavoured Turkish delight, sometimes even covered in dried rose petals. Having grown up with all this as a given condition, I never really cared that much for roses in perfumery, because they often smelled either too familiar and commonplace to me, or worse - simply not true enough. The rose of Rose Tonnerre captures all the memories and experiences I have ever had of rose and condenses them into one larger-than-life idea of what a rose is. Beyond all the forms and incarnations the rose has taken throughout my life, it brings me back to the rose bush in my Turkish grandparents’ garden, blooming in a soft orange-pink and smelling strongest in the morning - right back to that core, perhaps universal experience of discovering the rose as a child: sensing its sweet scent from afar, burying your face into its large flowers to inhale it fully, the golden pistils tickling your nose, your mind lost in pure bliss while your body remains subconsciously alert in fear of leaning too far into its thorns, as inevitably happened the first time you encountered and lost your guard around a rose. I have heard this perfume described as a photorealistic rose, but I think that description somehow falls short, because it is not merely the smell of a rose flower that you encounter here, but rather the idea of a rose. It is like the most magnificent rose you can imagine, purer, richer and truer than any real-life rose you can recall having ever smelled before. For me, the other ingredients no longer stand apart on their own, but are completely absorbed and fused into that rose to reveal its own sweetness, its own pepperiness, depth and groundedness. Together they conjure not simply the real flower, but the myth of the rose. I have read reviews calling this rose Gothic, vampiric - someone below even mentioned that Dracula himself would have worn this perfume. One could perhaps add The Name of the Rose to that dark-fantasy lineage as well. But to me this rose feels more glorious than dark. Still, I am curious to explore that vampiric interpretation too, having just sprayed myself all over with Rose Tonnerre, an unread copy of Dracula resting on my lap.

I love this one. I love rose and in my search for “the rose” fragrance for my collection, this one really hits the mark. I currently have a sample of it, and in my sample testing today I compared this to MFK’s A La Rose—one on each wrist. While I think both are beautiful, FM’s Rose Tonnerre is more dark at the open and complex throughout its wear. A La Rose is a bright, young rose with that high-pitch juicy floral rose note at the open and pretty much stays the same throughout. This particular scent or “note” I’m describing is one I have noticed in a lot of feminine, rose marketed fragrances, so while it’s not unique, I like it. It’s the rose that’s in A La Rose and Delina, but not in POAL, for example. It’s the juicy, enveloping, delicious floral rose. And when I think of my designated rose fragrance, that bottle’s got to have it. I did this one-on-each-wrist test before too, but didn’t really evaluate them the first time, but I remember thinking at one point when I took a sniff of each of them “wow, they both smell extremely similar”. Now I know it’s because, at least on my skin, at one point they do. But that’s only because RT changes and evolves in such a beautiful and masterful way Here’s how RT evolves: 0-1 hours: deep, dark, juicy rose. It is floral and smells like straight up rose but darker. It’s a sexy, enveloping feminine rose. 2-4 hours: Still lovely and predominantly rose. Around the 2 hour mark it is very similar to A La Rose to my nose on my skin, this is the point that as I sniff both wrists, they smell the exact same. Around hour 3 it transitions to a greener and fresher scent. You can smell the whole of the rose plant, leaves and all. Still rose but it really evolves here. 5-6 hours: Much more musky than rose. This part surprised me. It reminds me a lot of Musc ravageur at this point, but maybe with more with that greenery and rose overlay. More of a skin scent at this point but still beautiful. Overall I love Rose Tonnerre. I enjoy most rose fragrances but what makes this one special, and why I’ll probably purchase a full bottle of this over other rose fragrances (such as MFK’s A La rose, diptique’s Eau Rose) is because this feels more masterfully done and more complex. FM is just so, so good at that.

I've never smelt anything so wonderful in my life! Went to Target and was standing in line, and a whiff of scent passed my nose. I followed the scent and realized a man and a woman standing there. I didn't want to be rude, or embarrass myself for being a curious nose. But I just had to. I'll be kicking myself for the rest of my life if I didn't find out what this scent was. I asked, and the lady said it was "Une Rose." I knew what that meant as I took French in school. "A Rose," never heard of it. And of course she says they only sell it at Barney's. A store I've never been to and am nowhere near. This fragrance surprised me and open me up to a whole new world of fragrances. Mind blowing fragrances that really change the way you feel. Not the kinds that you see at smaller malls and fragrance shops. The scent was DANCING around the whole place. It was unique, never smelled anything like it. It has a woman quality to it, but not exactly feminine. I wouldn't say I smelt "Rose". All the rose scents I've ever smelt smelled sickly sweet or too rosy to wear, this on the other hand, was nothing like that. There was different notes popping out all at once and it was difficult for me to distinguish them. It was all one in unity, but changing at the same time if that makes any sense. The only reason why I might hesitate to wear this scent is that it's explosive. In a good way, but still drawing ALL the attention to yourself. And I'm not the kind that likes drawing attention to myself. But I'd probably buy it for my own enjoyment. Not only is it an explosive attention-seeking scent, it's also very confident and powerful. DOMINATING beautiful is more of the correct description. Thus, why I know it can't be my signature scent. Yes, it's those kind of scent where you're in a crowded room and wondering who's wearing the wonderful perfume. Surely this perfume is beautiful and amazingly delightful to my nose. I've only experienced it for a few minutes and a few notes, and it left that kind of impression. I just don't know if it'll have the same affect on my skin.

🌹 FREDERIC MALLE: Une Rose (Rose Tonnerre) Edouard Flechier 2003 🌹 SERGE LUTENS: La Fille de Berlin Christopher Sheldrake 2013 It has been rainy days In Finland lately and these two beautiful rose perfumes - especially Une Rose - performs best in rainy days and high humidity. LFdB works well in shiny weather as well. These two are often compared to each others and that’s why I wanted to make a post of them together. There are only few similarities in these two scents: both are very realistic roses, both are very bright but I don’t see them as green. The smell of them start to separate straight away after the opening. 🌹 La Fille be Berlin is a very safe choice, and if you are used to Serge Lutens’ perfumes you may even think that it’s boring. It’s not unique but it’s beautiful for sure. The petals are fragile and thin and the smell of a rose is clean. There are no other notes which I can detect, just luminous rose with a metallic undertone. I would say it’s linear and one of the easiest scents to wear and for people around you. 🌹 The petals in Une Rose are thick and a little bit shiny - like there is some waxy surface on those. The smell is much deeper and stronger. If I compare it to LFDB it reminds me of a lipstick - not in a vintage way but it feels that there is something over the instant smell of a rose. On the other hand Une Rose is like some amazing rose water but powerfull one. In sunny day I don’t understand it so well but it bursts into flower and begins to shine in the rain, there is something amazingly melancholic in it and it’s beautiful. It lingers in the air while you move and it feels that every raindrop absorbs the scent from around you. This is not so complex either but very interesting one and the longevity is very good. Agreed: this is The Rose scent. And I've sprung for a FB. As others have stated, it is a cool, wine-dark perfectly natural, blooming red rose in all its facets: petals, leaves, thorns, dew droplets. Tender, dramatic, noble, a hint of jamminess, even hiding within seems to be a very subtle musk/leather underpinning. Gorgeous balance of honey-sweet to lemon-tart inflections. Perhaps a faint honey-urinaceousness. But always "about" the rose. The perfume is like a bottomless pit: the rose just goes on and on, into infinity... Never can you say, "the scent is finished developing on my skin". Into far drydown, a slight leathery solidity comes into play, but even *it* doesn't seem to be the last word. Because this scent contains no frilly or perfumey or cosmetic notes at all, no hint of high-pitched "bridal" white flowers, no caramel or marzipan, no patchouly or sandalwood or vanilla, it is never girly, simpering, cutesy, bath gel, powdery or soapy. Neither sluttish nor Victorian. It doesn't have to be, because the rose it *is* speaks for itself. This fragrance doesn't have to "try"... there is nothing aspirational, self-consciously "suave" or trendy about this. It just...is. Such a rare thing. A man can wear this. There is a hint of pathos to this smell, a certain emotional urgency (perhaps brought on by the honey and wood underpinnings) that brings almost a pang to the heart. Other reviewers have mentioned that it might suit Lestat, Dracula or Snow White's wicked stepmother: they are not altogether wrong about this, as a certain E.A. Poe melancholy dwells within UNE ROSE... and that is by no means a "diss". The jus, when you spray, is mostly scenting oils, and will leave a sheen of oil on your skin that *doesn't* evaporate; this is certainly an Extrait de Parfum, and has the incredible lasting-power to prove it. I didn't think this sort of thing happened in perfumery anymore. Worth every penny. I'm smitten: My new reference rose.

I am slowly working my way through the entire Frédéric Malle line of fragrances. I believe Une Rose is due to be renamed soon as "Rose Tonnerre", so in case of reformulation, I purchased a full bottle. I'm not disappointed - I am fussy about rose perfumes, but this one is excellent. It is a good old-fashioned, straightforward rose scent, masterfully crafted and of the high quality expected from FM. However, it is hard to choose a definitive FM rose scent - for example, Rose & Cuir is a nice unisex interpretation of rose with arguably more depth, while POAL is a showstopper once it gets past its opening, pulling off the impression of photorealistic rose petals. Compared to older reviews of Une Rose, I believe that it has been quietly reformulated years ago, likely when Estée Lauder acquired the brand. My bottle is a rich yet subdued rose bouquet, green and woody, but I don't get truffle or any unusual accords. Une Rose has a boozy, fruity opening with rose in the background - not a great start for me. However, it quickly develops into a soft yet rich rose scent, given some inspired greenness thanks to the peppery geranium note. Geranium-rose is a great accord that I never knew I needed. There is a slight soapiness too. But the rose note is king here. As it further unfolds, it becomes a woody, true rose scent, rich and luxurious - like top quality rose oil. It manages to not be the soliflore its name suggests, instead it is bolstered by well-chosen accompanying notes. For instance, the honey note in the base gives a grown-up, opulent sweetness to Une Rose. There is no amber or vanilla in the base, which is refreshing. And something I particularly like about Une Rose - no discernable patchouli. The sweet, woody rose is joined by musky notes as it fades. Sillage and longevity are both moderate. A beautifully elegant, introverted rose scent that truly delivers. Sublime. 5/5.

Une Rose... "Une." A rose. That indefinite article, so humble and unassuming. This being *a* rose is like saying Meryl Streep is *an* actor, Prince was *a* musician, or, coming back to perfumery, Cuir de Russie is *a* leather. C'mon now! Let's be honest. Meryl Streep is *THE* actor. Prince was *THE* musician. Cuir de Russie is *THE* leather. And, yes, Une Rose is *THE* rose. Let me explain. There are several great rose fragrances out there. Serge Lutens has made a few (two of which are commonly mentioned in discussions of Une Rose, though, in my view, Rose de Nuit—his hidden gem—bests both of those). Tom Ford has Noir de Noir. Guerlain has (had?) Nahema. Shiseido produced that elusive unicorn Nombre Noir. Estée Lauder still churns out Knowing. Somehow, the Perfumer's Workshop sells gallons of Tea Rose for pennies. And Frédéric Malle somehow sells Portrait of a Lady in ounces for hundreds. All of these, good, great. Some masterful, even. But Une Rose dominates them all. It makes other rose "soliflores" feel hollow or incomplete and renders other rose perfumes too overblown. Une Rose proclaims itself as the queen of flowers, and it certainly doesn't need to juxtapose its rose against other elements. Oakmoss, patchouli, chocolate... pfff... Those notes are but "lowly commoners" that appear in other rose perfumes. Not this one. Not this queen. She's regal. She's perfect. She just... is. So, yeah, this is all rose, all the time. Velvety, red, honeyed petals. Leaves, thorns, stem—a crisp, yet bitter, greenery. Dirt and earth, the loam that clings to its roots. I get the comparisons with other rose perfumes. But those are just *some* rose perfumes. This is *THE* rose perfume. The epitome of rose, the essence of rose. Une Rose, or better yet, LA ROSE. The definite article is definitely needed.

At first it surprised me with its bubble gummy, a bit synthetic opening, but within a few minutes developed into something very refined. The store where I tested it was liquidating their Frederic Malle fragrance section so I grabbed it for a good price. The main notes I can detect are rose, raspberry, geranium, truffle, some leaves and some greenness and sweetness from other ingredients. But all of the notes are just used to describe the main one, the fresh, pink rose and everything that's beautiful about it. It's a very realistic description, but also a rose improved- it's not bitter like a natural rose can be, and it's sweet, a little royal and long staying. This fragrance it's also very multidimensional- close to skin it's mostly rose, but it also creates a bubble around me which is a little earthier and dirtier. A lot of people in their reviews here describe this fragrance as gothic. I'm not sure if I agree, since I own much darker leaning fragrances and this one feels very fresh and bright in comparison, but maybe its subtle dampness and earthiness can create such impression. Rose is also a bit of a gothic flower on its own, and maybe that can be a bit suggestive. When I'm looking for a fragrance I don't like when it feels like it's made for seniors or for young people, when it's too feminine or masculine. I think fragrance should not be defined by those superficial terms and rather be something that allows self expression. This is my first Frederic Malle fragrance and it checks all those criteria (more than POAL, which is a more popular rose themed offering from this house, but it's too mature leaning for me). A must try for rose lovers.

Renaming Une Rose to Rose Tonnerre was actually quite a good call. “The Rose” doesn’t capture the spirit of the perfume nearly as well as “Rose Thunder”. This perfume is thunderous, a maelstrom, all blacks, deep purples, and dark browns. There is no sunshine here, it’s been blocked out. Gothic almost to the point of being campy, it is also superbly rich and elegant. Dracula would have this perfume as his signature, for sure. The rose is beautiful, of course, and the greens of the geranium and the vetiver are wonderful but predictable pairings. It’s the “wine” accord, castoreum, and the truffle that stand out and take this is in a wholly different direction. With the slightly metallic turned-fruit note from an inky purple cabernet franc, the semi-garlicky earthiness from the black truffle, and soft leather-like animalics of the castoreum, the innocent red of the rose is corrupted by their poisonous blacks, purples, and browns. That was then. The thunderstorm has passed; Dracula is in his coffin for some slumber, unwarranted light is now breaking through. The new formulation is much heavier on the greens of the geranium and the vetiver, with maybe a new addition to the perfume that strikes me as mossy, while the wine chalice has been emptied, the truffle eaten, the leather gone, and the patchouli dialed back to a whisper. It actually has more in common with new formulations of POAL (also a shell these days) than it does with the original Une Rose I love. The original is a big thumbs-up. The new formulation not so much. Bram Stoker would not be pleased.

This is the ultimate scent for the rose lovers. Out of all perfumes in my past and current collection (20+ perfumes), I find that this fragrance has the most gorgeous opening of them all. The reddest, richest and fruitiest rose greets you upon the first spray, and lingers in the air for a good couple of hours. And then is where this masterpiece garners a lot of interest. In my mind, it's as it was marketed. A depiction of a rose, from its vivid and saturated red petals, its' green stalk, leaves, and thorns meet you somewhere in the middle of the perfume's life, and then you're slowly introduced to the humid soil, that gives life to the rose's roots. After the initial rose blast, an earthy base of patchouli, vetiver and truffle give this "simple" rose immense depth, while it is finished with mineral musks. Lasts for a very long while, all day, and you'll catch whiffs of it in the nightime too. Spray it on clothes and the red rose opening will stay with you all day too. Although powerful, it is signature scent worthy. A rose scent can be enjoyed on any day, and every time the weather changes, the scent changes too. So, you'll enjoy different facets as you are wearing it during the year. Luxurious, dark, gothic, ultimately sensual. A must have for those who appreciate the most beautiful flower.

Seductive Stemmy Rose 🥀 Who doesn't love the smell of rose? It's a universal love gesture we give/receive and already familiar with the scent. But generally rose dominant fragrances turnouts as ultra girly or feminine to wear. It's not the case here because there are some supporting notes here adding a layer of depth and complexity. A very unique take on rose that make me feel in love instantly from the first sniffing. The rose as the main player is very realistic bright bouquet of roses. I can pick up the freshly cut stem from the green touches of the composition. In the background red wine lift the scent creating a sparkling nuances. On the contrary truffle comes to ground them slightly with it earthiness and also gives an extra layer of luxury. Overall this a very bright but also seductive rose fragrance perfectly appropriate for grown-up mature people to wear in romantic mood/situation. I can find myself wearing this on fine dining date day or night for sure. I highly recommend this fragrance for everyone for its versatility and mood lifting it gives to the wearer. #vscentorientreview

Scent is subjective and deeply psychological and it's not even possible for two people to experience the exact same fragrance on their skin...but anyone who says this is "identical" or even "pretty close" to Fille de Berlin should consider a nose recalibration. Like, call and find out if your dealer will do a full factory reset on your nasal receptors. Rose Tonnerre is a fresh, cool, and fairly linear outdoorsy rose without any sharp edges. It's velvety and fragrant, but only because it's a big and blooming specimen at maximum petal glory (and definitely red). Like, a bigass real rose at a Pasadena garden show. It's not dried, mulled, spiced, fruited, potpourri'd, or otherwise artificially sweetened. You can almost smell the edge of the green leaf beside, or the mulch below. As others have observed, its coolness is kinda wet: dewy, freshly-watered, and even rainy. Big fat refreshing raindrops hitting your face in the springtime, in the garden, among the roses. All of the above elements merely enhance the vivid and unmistakeable rose-ness. I mean...c'est Une Rose.

Since i am a Depeche Mode fan, im feeling deep connection between Une Rose and the best DP album "Violator". Viral dark rose connected them on a best possibile way. FM has a lot of Rose fragrances, and many of them (for example): Poal is much more than just a rose. but Une Rose is particulary "just" Rose, and each single other note which were used here is just to boost the beautines and the strenght of the rose itself. Opening part is mass pleasant clear rose smell, but after that very inital part it turns into something totaly different. Easy going rose smell becomes enriched by the dark, soily, bloody, boozy and animalic facets. An overall impression is a torrid, dark yet mysterious smelling fragrance, Just immagine the picture of a bloody red rose under the storms. Scary but irresistible isn't it? You have to be sure that every time you gonna wear it you l be noticed and probably complimented by many scared faces around you. One of the deepest fragrance from the enire FM house.

Oh, Rose Tonnerre, where to start? I first smelled it in 2020 back when it was called "Une Rose". I was gifted a Frederic Malle discovery set for Valentine's Day that year. Since then I have ordered full bottles of my favorites (Portrait of a Lady, Musc Ravageur, Iris Poudre), but I could never forget the delicate scent of Une Rose. Every time I wore my sample bottle, I cherished the scent the entire day. So refined, classic, elegant. The perfect image of a rose. It is simply a masterful soliflore that gives you a full picture of a rose. I am so happy to say I own a 100ml bottle now which I know I will deeply enjoy for years to come. This is a staple scent, wearable anytime, any occasion, by any age. Definitely leans feminine. If you are a fan of the smell of a rose in the early morning when it is still covered in dew, this is for you. I cannot wait to wear it on a rainy autumn day. The best rose on the market- 10/10

A magnificent rose perfume. A real work of art. Compared to other rose perfumes I've tried this is right up there with the best of them. A rich, deep, red rose; as deep and red as the red wine listed in the notes. And unlike Nero777, I would have no problem wearing this whenever I like, wherever I like. But, I'd have to carry a travel sprayer around to do so just to touch up every two hours. Longevity is abysmal. It is truly obscene the price they are asking for something that lasts, at best, all of two hours. Estee Lauder now owns this company and I've no doubt this perfume suffered as a result. I'm sure IFRA regulations played a part too. I'm using a factory sample direct from the company, so it's not an issue of having a fake either. No, longevity is really that bad. Though I would love to own a bottle, the lousy performance makes this a waste of money. Too bad, because it really is a glorious perfume.

I love rose perfume and to me this is the best. I know everyone loves Portrait of a lady, but I wore bot for a while and this one screams alone in the wind in a wild rose garden. It's so good. It stays on for a decent amount of time. I used to wear Sa majesté la rose from Serge Lutens and I switched for this one. Maybe it's a little bit dirtier, there is a bit of mud, a bit of rain and some wet faded roses involved in the opening notes of Rose tonnerre. But it's a real rose perfume not a perfume with rose in it like Portrait of a lady. I don't have anything special against Portrait, I'm just bored by how hard the people that works at Frederic Malle try to sell it as the best rose you will ever smell. I think it's one of my only perfume that gets complimented every time I wear it. IDK about other people saying it dries down as waxy, soapy not for me, I still get the roses after a few hours.

I just found out that Edouard Fléchier is the nose behind the iconic Poison by Dior- and it makes so much sense! I didn't know that before but on my perfume tray I instinctively placed my Poison bottle next to Rose Tonnerre. Dior was one of my first designer perfume loves, and Rose Tonnerre is the first and only Frederic Malle in my collection. They are both subtly dark, a little cold and beautifully timeless. Both out of this world, a little alien and strange. Elegant and mature, but ageless at the same time. They are also both some of the few fragrances that I still enjoy wearing while having a migraine, and that always made me think that the man who created them must have an exceptionally sensitive nose. (I almost had a stroke when I saw that people comparing it to the Tea Rose perfume. It's nothing like it, please stop comparing literally every rose perfume to this crap.)

Following the catastrophic reformulation of Guerlain's Nahema which, for me, is the last word in rose, I have been searching for a captivating floral which isn't dominated by the ubiquitous kitsch-feminine sugary note which lesser perfumers seem to think defines 'woman'. Now, as a gardener, I have a potent obsession with scented old roses. Une Rose is an extraordinarily faithful representation of this botanical old rose scent. I was, indeed, captivated. For the first half of the day, I thought I had found my new signature, but as the day wore on, the excitement waned. It really does smell of nothing but rose, to the extent that I could not help thinking of air freshener, albeit exquisite, expensive air freshener. I desperately wanted to love it. Up to a point, I do. It is technically very impressive, and if I spot it on someone else I will certainly inhale deeply.

This is THE rose perfume. That's it, really. I love rose and have favorites from every house for a different reason (like Le Labo's Rose 31 for its spicy rose, Diptyque Eau Rose for its fresh and green rose, Chloe EDP for its soapy rose, Armani Prive Rose D'Arabie for its synthetic oud and rose, and just plain rosewater itself!), but this perfume is something special. It smells exactly like a dark, red Turkish rose that's been cultivated all the way to the end of summer and is bending its stalk with the sheer size of itself. My family cultivates roses in our gardens, its the Persian in us lol, and this perfume is the first to transport me to my own garden as opposed to a fantasy rose garden somewhere in England or France. The longevity of this one is insane and I think its sillage is even greater than Musc Ravageur.

My friend recently bought this so I tried it at her place. I've heard a lot of advertising and fragrance influencers associating this perfume with "dark", "power", "revenge"--one of them actually said it's the scent you should wear to your ex's funeral. But it's actually very pleasant, inoffensive and wearable! It smells like a summary of various forms of roses--fresh rose, rose jam, rose water, rose cosmetic powder... It opens with a mixture of fresh rose, rose jam, and sweet-and-sour pink berries, and dries down to a powdery rose. I love powdery scents and this is very powdery yet not sweet. It's strong and projects well but, as it smells so classic and well-educated, few people would be offended by it. It can be powerful but in a soft, feminine way. I think the ex will enjoy smelling it from his tomb ;-)

What a sweet rose scent! I’ve smelled my share of rose scents, but this one is a delight. It comes across as a honeyed rose or a candied rose for me. And the sweetness never cloys to the skin. Quite linear, but this smells expensive, just like any other Frederic Malle scent. The longevity is great. It goes on and on for nearly 24 hours, but I do smell it becoming weaker after 18 hours. I can’t seem to scrub it off my skin that well, and the projection is decent. I don’t need multiple sprays to get the strength of the scent out like other fragrances. This can become an office scent with one slight spray, and it will work in any situation. It gives off such a classy vibe that even if it is a very simple scent, I would always like to have this in my collection.

As true a tribute to a rose as they come. When first sprayed, it gives the impression of a full rose with a slight green note of the stem. Slightly juicy, perfectly sweet, tame enough to wear all year round. Upon dry down, it does not lose it's sweetness, and never loses it's rose centric identity. It lasts long enough that you can appreciate the beauty of the flower throughout the day, catching whiffs of it now and then, and yet it is never cloying, In my mind, this leans more feminine, the ultimate sensual rose perfume. I love every facet of it, but I would much prefer smelling this on my partner than on myself. My first 10/10 if we ignore the egregious pricing, and yet I can't help but feel like I would part ways with my money for a full bottle some day.

I definitely agree with the other Fragranticians: This perfume is THE ROSE. The first impression is a bit greenish, freshly cut rose, and then it evolves into a pure rose oil smell. After that, it starts to develop into a bit dirtier, earthier rose. The last phase is an incredible combination of red wine and geranium, which gives an oily character, along with the sweet touch of honey. I can feel a tiny bit of powderiness, which gives a very beautiful balance. Regardless of these phases, the rose is always in the centre and never gets shadowed by any of the other notes. One of the most beautiful rose fragrances I have ever smelt along with Tom Ford's Noir de Noir. This one is a very bold, velvet red, melancholic rose.

Je Suis Rose, and all other rose scents, kneel before me. Well, I don't know all other rose scents, but 'regal' is the word that popped up after a temporary lull in brain activity. I've just unpacked and sprayed my sample and gotten a royal slap in the face. Thank you Your Majesty, I deserved that. And may I say, the first flush of this fragrance is blooming gorgeous. The second one too by the way. And the third. Honeyed sharpness, flicker of ruby red wine, warmly thorny. Sweet but never ever cloying, because after all, that would be common. From spiky crown to velvet hem this perfume is majestic, and it's deep red trail leaves no room for apology. Do I have anything to add? No Ma'am, buying my full bottle now.

I was planning to enter my "fume of the day" as Une Rose, only to see it's no longer listed here, but Rose Tonnere is. I sprayed it on ~ 2 1/2 hours ago (guesstimate), my bottle is prolly 6-7 years old. I'm getting rose, more rose, lotsa rose, wine, and more rose. For me she's Queen Diva Rose and she knows it. I'm not really looking for notes, because she just is who she is. I'm surprised I never added my review to this (as Une Rose) because she always seemed to be The Boss of Roses. I do have a question though, as I do have the Flechier masterpiece, should I sample Rose Tonnerre? I just LOVE my bottle. It is desert island worthy (of course). I suspect the new version would be a disappointment.

I genuinely cannot get enough of this beautiful, intoxicating fragrance. I'm finally buying a 50mL of this and couldn't be happier. I've gone through a 10mL, several decants and tried it in store on multiple occassions but could never afford a full bottle. The scent is this full on, jammy and hyper fealistic rose with a hit of nose confusing menthol at the very beginning. It dries down to a rose stem and mildly grassy scent with a lot of body. It lasts forever and smells beautiful from start to finish. Is it complex? Somewhat. Does it shift and change over time? A little. It doesn't really need to, though. It's so, so beautiful. THE rose scent for rose lovers. So romantic.

A beautifully dimensional, extremely well-balanced rose fragrance that's equal parts honey-sweet, lemony-tart, woody-green, and warmly balsamic. Very nuanced and classy. It's the kind of elegant yet not overwhelming fragrance that can be effortlessly dressed up or down—worn most places and for most things, without feeling out of place. The comparison to La Fille De Berlin is fair, IMO, though the two fragrances are quite different. They are like divergent siblings; the family resemblance is there, but that's where the similarities stop. Rose Tonnerre is the even-keeled sibling; well-dressed and well-rounded. LFDB is darker and more intense; a bit edgy, a bit defiant.

My attention was drawn to the fact that the perfumer who created this (stunningly beautiful) fragrance, certainly nurtured it as one would a child. Perhaps for this reason, he did not create too many fragrances. I don’t know if you checked how “ROSE TONNERRE” is translated from French. But for me, this is the meaning of the fragrance. I cannot describe the shades and the opening, and the gradual birth of peace, without saying - discover it yourself. This passion is created for the sophisticated. I will only say that for 30 years now I have missed the aroma of “Wrappings” by Clinique, - and now I find echoes of those old “embraces” ❤️🤝❤️

My favourite rose, hands down. Not speaking on rose/oud combos, just rose. Rose is my favourite note in perfumery and I own many rose centred perfumes and have a bunch that are classic favs (masque Milano’s, tauer’s, Ormonde Jayne, jovoy, ELDO, Boadecia the victorious, Terenzi, perris Monte Carlo, amouage, SL, and many many more) but this is the one I reach for almost every single time. It’s just classic, uncomplicated and absolutely stunning. I wear this all seasons and any time of day and any occasion. It’s so versatile, remarkable quality, and just so so fucking beautiful. 10/10

The fruits give flesh and blood to this rose, and the woods give it a backbone! It is the most perfect, onctuous,incredibly beautiful and opullente rose that I've ever smelled, it is alive, it's breathing and taking my breath away, it's pulsating and making me shiver, it's a rose with a heartbeat! The most amazing rendition, a stunning beauty of colossal proportions, it will make you feel like a queen, but you need guts to wear it! Expensive, but worth it's price tenfold! It lasts a good 12 hours on skin, and I wish the bottle would last me a lifetime!

This is my first fragrance from the house of Frédéric Malle, and I’m absolutely in love. The scent captures a deep, dark rose with an air of complexity and sophistication. It feels perfectly suited to a confident, mature woman who knows what she wants. The sillage is moderate, projecting to about arm’s length for the first two hours before softening into a skin scent that lingers for another 3–4 hours. The dry-down reveals a sweet, powdery rose that feels intimate and non-offensive. A truly captivating fragrance. Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 4/10

So much has already been said about this outstanding fragrance, it truly has no equal. Try wearing it in the rain... This Rose wants storms. I wore Une Rose/Rose Tonnerre during a rainstorm in the spring - and I experienced something of a divine enlightment, a revelation. The air around me filled with the most stunning, otherworldly scent - it seemed that all the ingredients of this potion were just waiting for the storm, the open air, the ozone. Rose Tonnerre is Bach's adagios. The beauty so striking and harmonious that I cried.

Reviewing “une rose” batch 2019 It is the rose to get if you are into rose fragrances Sweet enough nothing jam-like Spices are there but thankfully nothing overwhelming Performance is excellent projection is moderate I tried the new one with the changed name “Rose Tonnerre” and I think the newer variation has a lot more sourness and spice What I appreciate the most about it is the focus on the main note “rose” I found a bottle in a retailer overboard and was happy to buy it since the new variation wasn’t my cup of tea

A rose where you can smell every single minute detail in every fold and crinkle of its many cascading petals. There’s the honeyed fruity sweetness of damascones, clovey eugenol, metallic geraniol, bitter tannins, earthy green woodiness accented by the truffle, patchouli, vetiver and some well used woody-amber aromachemicals. Simply stunning. And boy is it loud. Walked into my grandmother’s flat about 30 minutes after spraying this and she could smell me from several metres away when I came in through the front door.

This is an incredibly photorealistic fresh and dewy rose fragrance. Upon spraying we get such a sparkling fizzy burst of fresh roses, florals and pink pepper that is amazingly green and juicy. Than the middle notes emerge and it is soft, fluffy, feminine. The hint of Saffron is so delightful and geranium, which I typically dislike, is blended beautifully to uplift the whole scent. It is a beautiful, very fragrant rose dominant bouquet. Blended harmoniously to stays true to the spirit of freshly picked roses.

I need to be friends with sallyming below because we have the same taste with rose fragrances. Byedo’s Rose of No Man’s Land is also my favorite rose perfume albeit the sucker performance. This perfumes in fact hints to that of Byredo’s the way the Rose is used here which is made fresh and sparkly, and its base but a lot denser and darker. What I love about this perfume is how effervescent the rose is. It literally lifts from my skin leaving a great fresh rosy sillage. What an amazing perfume this is!

I adore Une Rose. Its a little tart, a little sweet, a little crisp, a little balsamic, and its really just a perfect vision of a rose. I say vision because its clearly an 'ideal' rose in the eye (or nose) of Edouard Flechier, rather than a recreation of something purely natural. Its quite a cool rose as well. I am not blanketed in warmth from it-- but that makes it all the more delightful, its really an exquisite rose solifleur and a must in any rose collectors line-up.

Rose Tonnerre IS a reformulation of Une Rose, despite what Fragrantica says. They should have two entries. Une Rose utilized Karanal, which was banned in the EU in 2023, though typically there is several years' notice, hence the 2021 rebranding and, yes, reformulation. Both scents are lovely and if anything Rose Tonnerre smells more of truffle than Une Rose, seemingly having a higher opoponax content. Une Rose just has that dark garden je ne sais quoi, though.

Une Rose conjures an image of a crisp deep velvet red rose, floating atop a crystal glass of the finest red wine. The glass sits in a woodland forest, where truffles lay underneath the earth as wild pelargonium grow around natural bee hives & deers frolic. Evoking an appreciation of natures wonder and the riches that abound from the earth. More than simply a fragrance, Une Rose is a work of art, a contemplation. The juice is potent and lasts all day.

Beautiful and impressive opening with a fresh green rose that turns woody and slightly animalic in the dry down. Feels extremely well blended and balanced, not one element is overpowering, which was exactly what I was hoping, although not necessarily expecting after reading so many reviews about this being dirty and gothic. No thunders here, but a sudden summer rain shower inside this 2023 batch mini.

This fragrance is absolutely a masterpiece in perfume history, it's unique, it's soulful, it contains stories. I'm making it my signature scent, however the price tag is too expensive. Does any experts here know what's the alternative to this specific one? Dupes or which perfumer can clone it? I'm going to try Generic Perfume Frederic Malle samples, but would like to hear your opinion, dear friends!

I bought a 100ml tester of this blind and am so glad I did. It doesn't smell exactly like the flower, but is about 85% there. Une Rose is a 2-note fragrance for me: just rose and tannin. For me, that brings to mind black tea. The astringency of the tannins really helps to brighten this scent up - it's lasting without being heavy. I absolutely love how fresh, natural and uncomplicated this scent is.

I've always steered away form scents that are too rose forward but got this on accident I stead of promise. I have smelled this in store before and did not find any interesting qualities in it then, just a nice rose. Giving this a few wears changed this. The rose is just so lovely and realistic with just enough depth, density and beautifully blended supporting notes to keep me engaged.

This is not your grandmother's rose. Une Rose is acidic and intellectual. She doesn't come to please but to do as she wishes, and seduces with her wit and her sharp tongue. She is poised; she sees everything even if she does not always speak. Une Rose may even give you good posture in case you dare to wear this and slouch. Best for nights out, evening gown preferred.

This smells like a beautiful bouquet of pink roses to me. This is a fresh, juicy rose. It is not too green and sharp like some fresh rose scents. It is neither faint and fleeting like a rose water. Une Rose (Rose Tonnerre) has enough depth to be interesting and make itself known, yet keeps the integrity of the simple beauty of the rose. I love this fragrance.

Frederic Malle Une Rose (2003) - rosey rose - #edouardflechier created such a powerful rose soliflore. I get a blood red #rose mixed with Geranium. Dewy and fresh. This is mixed with an earthy accord at the base supported by woods and white musk. Reminds me of black tie events, weddings and special dinner dates. Rose at its core with layered nuanced facets.

The three-faced rose; beginning is a green and more photorealistic rose, transforms into a boozier & spicier rose oil, and then settles into an earthy truffle-forward rose with woody accents. Love in transitioning weather, so spring or autumn. Lasts around 10 hrs, projects very loudly for the first half of the fragrance's life.

This is devine. Such a fresh and full bodied rose. Vibrant and robust. It's like being hit smak in the middle of the face with a huge luscious, deeply plum red rose, freshly picked from the garden where it grew with aromatic minty herbs and berries. The person wearing this, is living life at its fullest. Truly a masterpiece.
