Cruz del Sur

Finally Cruz del Sur is added to the library for reviews and I am delighted. I love this fragrance. In my opinion, it is one of the very best from Fueguia. It is very deep, natural, sensual, and transportive. It reflects the infinity of the sky, the depths of the night, the raw beauty of nature. To me, it is more of a smell than perfume in its traditional sense. It is something that I love for myself anytime and everywhere. But it is not a blind buy safe whatsoever. Just because I love it and find it transportive and evocative, does not mean that others will. Like I said, I do not think that it is a mass-appealing scent in a traditional perfume sort of way, especially given the high price and scarcity of testing options. I truly can not compare it to any other fragrance I’ve smelled before, not even from Fueguia. However, those who are familiar with the brand will unmistakably recognize Fueguia DNA here. I rarely ware it as a perfume of the day. More often I spray it on the sleeve and smell it for myself. Edit: I wore Cruz del Sur today and I will try to describe the scent itself. To me this scent is mostly woody with herbal bitterness. The woodiness is very natural, like a freshly cut natural wood. I do not get frank oud, perhaps it’s what gives this fragrance it’s incredible depth, but there is no funk, just natural scent. The sandalwood is not like in Santal 33 or Sacred Wood and not even like in La Joven Noche. If I would not have read that it’s sandalwood, I would not have guessed it. I don’t really get any tuberose or florals either. I would describe Cruz del Sur as a scent of nature. Cruz del Sur has the Fueguia DNA and I believe it wares best in spring and fall, but can be worn any season. To me this is completely unisex, but I suppose that many people can perceive it as slightly masculine leaning because of woodiness with herbal or grassy aspect. Like many Fueguia fragrances, I don’t see Cru del Sur to be a good fragrance for formal occasions, but rather a scent for casual ware for oneself.

This fragrance lasts forever and ever. I wear it when I’m planning to be out all day and may work up a sweat because when it blooms on my skin it turns so complex and beautiful. I smell like sexy celery. THATS A GOOD THING! It’s unexpected, spiced, vegetal/herbal, totally unique and interesting.

Of all the fragrances I've encountered over the past several years, this one was the most striking and the most captivating. I've since made it my signature scent. I used to wear Diptyque's Tam Dao, but this feels more mysterious and dense in character. Oud and tuberose are blended in perfect balance, evoking the rituals of a sweltering tropical night. It carries a sensual atmosphere while simultaneously holding a certain strictness. 99% of tuberose fragrances in existence are crafted to bring forward the sweet, glamorous, and tropical character of the tuberose flower. This one approaches tuberose from a completely different angle. Anyone who has smelled a real tuberose flower in person knows its green, bitter, and fresh side. That is exactly what is contained in this bottle. Smoky oud, balsam, and sandalwood envelop the flower with great strength. oody fragrances like this are typically considered autumn and winter scents, but this one should absolutely be worn in summer. There is something deeply satisfying about going through a humid summer night wearing this fragrance.
