El Mono de la Tinta

Another lovely simple natural woody aromatic from Fuegeia. The scent opens with notes of amyris, and moves to a heart of copaiba resin. It settles into a base of cinnamon, sandalwood and plant based musk. The scent is named after a mythical monkey which lives on plant resin ink. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and excellent longevity. A unique pleasant offering that is reflective of South American nature and a tribute to the fantastical literature of Jorge Luis Borges. Beautiful warm and brown fizzy amber. I was trying to burn through a ton of samples and just happened to have puredistance m on the other arm; they have a surprisingly similar drydown. I actually enjoy this one better; it has more of a “raw” element.

Bit of a shape shifter on me, this one - it kicks off with a simple but gorgeous mid-woody sandalwood, then goes all diva-like and almost rose/oud at moments as the sweetness ratchets up - there were moments I could have sworn it was Aoud Damascus or something - then modulates back down to some rich mahogany/ebony tones, and then - the only bit I didn't like - went real dark-dirty-sweaty-vetiver right at the very end. Intermittently very seductive but it is so weird and ever-changing I couldn't quite stay in sync with it. Pretty strong sillage and longevity; like every other 1833 I've tried, completely unisex and saturated with real natural smells of real woods. Gorgeous but in total perhaps a bit much for me. (If it's true that this and Biblioteca de Babel are very close - I tried both and found Biblioteca smoother and easier to deal with, but Mono de la Tinta a lot more playful, sweeter and multifaceted.)

It smells exactly like the "coca cola flavored" popsicles i used to love as a child. And I definitely love it! Its sexy, edible but not exesively sweet. Spicy, woodsy and sort or "sweet earthy" if that exists. Also, it develops into very different acchords over time. You will smell a different fragance every 15 minutes. Great longevity (over 12 hours) and good sillage.

I have to agree with the reviewer below who likened this to "Iso-E Super and cinnamon chewing gum". That's unfortunately exactly what it smells like :/ The sandalwood seems to my nose to be extremely synthetic, and has none of the smooth, milky qualities of pure sandalwood. What I do get is a cold, abrasive cedar-type texture which seems to vanish the more I try to smell it. The cinnamon also has a high-pitched artificial sweetness, which makes me think of Big Red chewing gum and Cola Pops, etc, but not in a pleasant way. I have no idea what copaiba balm smells like, so I can't tell how it's affecting the composition. I'm surprised considering that the other cinnamon scent in Fueguia's catalog, "Biblioteca de Babel", smells very natural, with a rich, inviting spicy-sweet warmth. "El mono" smells like a failed rough draft of "Biblioteca" and it doesn't have good performance either. Very amateurish.

I fell in love right away. This is such a well balanced perfume. It is all at the same time biting, pungent, inviting, tasty, and soft. Edible in a sexy way. I could get used to wearing this, a lot.

Another strike from this house. It smells like Iso-e-super and cinnamon chewing gum. Quite synthetic.
