La Cautiva

I'm obsessed!!!!!! I mostly buy from niche perfumers, as I am generally drawn to unique scents. But I often find there's some sort of obligatory dissonant note in there just to sway the scent into 'niche' territory, without being particularly well blended, which I find so unnecessary. So I applaud Fueguia 1833 for making something undoubtedly unique but likeable, but without any polarizing go-f*ck-yourself notes undermining what's otherwise lovely, or without that two-faced quality that seduces one minute and then attacks you the next (I'm looking at you, Juan Manuel!!!). Call me nuts, but it smells a little like a pile of young, fluffy, golden, milk-drunk puppies (just fur and milk and warmth). Or a perfect shortbread cookie. If someone were to smell this on you, I don't believe anyone could identify any specific note, just that it's warm and magnetic. It's so expertly blended. The scent is quite linear. It wears quite close to the body, the warm, salty, skin-like musk radiates maybe 12" from the skin. It leans every so slightly sweet, but the sweet is perfectly balanced with a warm buttery musk, and neither ever overpowers the other. The longevity is good. I got maybe 8-10 hours. The vanilla and cassis "blackberry ice-cream" notes are undetectable to me unless I literally press my nose to my skin and inhale deeply. I'm happy it doesn't project because those layers are definitely too sweet for my taste; the cassis has no bitterness or sourness. Probably a safe blind buy for anyone who likes vanilla, cassis, but especially salt/skin/musk scents that lean a little fuzzy and sweet, or anyone who wants to smell like a puppy. :)

La Cautiva is a really beautiful fragrance that is great for warm weather. It is juicy, tropical fruity, and a bit musky, but in a soft refined way (not strong harsh musk). Fueguia fragrances do differ from slightly to quiet significantly between the editions from different years. This is the major reason why I do not prefer Fueguia as a house since it is always a gamble with each new bottle: you may like the new edition more than the one you had before or you can be left disappointed with the new edition. For La Cautiva I have a i-xxii edition and I also just tried the i-xxiii (I believe, it’s wherever the newest edition they have now) and i am a bit disappointed with the new one. The older edition is more concentrated, fruiter, and juicier, while the newer edition is more transparent, sweet, and vanilla is stronger. The newer edition is still nice, but compared to the older one it is not a love. The newer edition feels more watered down and less juicy. I may contact Fueguia and ask if they can make the older edition for me like it says on their website.

La Cautiva is a beautiful soft, fresh scent, very feminine. It's like a fresh sweet breeze from a garden with some flowers and berry bushes. It has some sillage and I had originally thought that longevity is lacking, but after wearing this for three days, I was wrong. The sillage lasts only about 4 hours, but the scent stays with you for about 10 hours. I wore it one evening and it was still there the next morning just as glorious. I know the notes given do not include florals but I swear there are some floral notes in the topnotes. I smell them. The vanilla is light and fresh as is the musk. There is a faint woodiness, also, and I do not find the blackcurrant too sweet when it enters in the drydown. I find it still retains just a bit of tartness to balance the vanilla. This is a light, ethereal scent that reminds me of the dry soft air in parts of Argentina and California. This is one of my 3 favorites from this line.

I’ve been wearing this perfume on and off for almost a year now. Fragrantica lists notes of blackcurrant, musk and even vanilla in the opening, but to me it doesn’t quite smell like that. On my skin, it’s more the scent of flowers from Argentina – White Guayabo, Queen of the Night and Blue Passionflower (as listed on the box). I haven’t smelled them in nature, but I can imagine them through comparison with some exotic plants I know. At first, I found the fragrance rather confusing, but over time I’ve grown to appreciate and enjoy these floral notes, and the way they feel so different from the flora of my Nordic homeland – especially now, in damp and chilly November, when these flowers bring back the brightness of summer. Well you better love it because it ain't going away for roughly 24h. Shower included. Sprayed it on my arm, used another perfume the next day. Couldn’t figure out what was that smell I kept smelling from time to time...finally I stuck my nose into my arm and there it was calling me the day after. Elusive, sexy, carnal, tart, bitter sweetish... a lady with a dark, dirty secret...dressed in quite luxurious fabrics...looks clean, talks clean...until she doesn’t. Or maybe she is a wild woman in the jungle feasting on berries barefoot, hunting in the night. Taking a bath in the waterfalls naked... Who knows, maybe she is both...psychotic? Psychedelic? Dreamer? Fraud? Does it matter? To her it doesn’t.

Masterpiece! Blackcurrant, vanilla and musk, but in the best way you could imagine! Love at first spray and I think one of the best fragrances I have ever tried. It is warm, creamy and sweet, but not overly sweet. Love the blackcurrant in this. I know now, what I want for my birthday... yet, I think I can not wait until that. Definitely will get this one. After wearing it now for a month or more, I can say, that it is still the favourite of mine, I can't get enough of it 🥰 good projection and lasting power, unique, sweet, fluffy, delicious scent.. suitable for all year round.

"La Cautiva" opens with a note that smells curiously like anise or fennel. It then bounces back and forth between a thin, sharp green note, juicy, tangy blackcurrant and sweet playful vanilla. The tone of this is quite high pitched, bright, bubbly and very feminine. It has an intense clarity that cuts through other scents in the room. The blackcurrant here thankfully stays away from the cat-piss side of things, but has just the right amount of greenness to balance the sweetness of the vanilla. Quite charming, innocent and will definitely get a girl noticed.

Sparkling dark berries are the centerpiece of this fragrance, wrapped in a warm veil of vanilla and musk. I fell in love with it from the very first sniff, though I can see how it might feel a bit too vibrant or pungent for some. The vanilla is soft and mellow, adding just enough sweetness without overpowering the crisp, fresh blackcurrant, which stays the true star from start to finish. To my nose, the musks are so subtle they’re almost undetectable—this is unabashedly a blackcurrant celebration, and I’m absolutely here for it.

Another fragrance different Fueguia's 1833. Curious mas that I spend to myself with this fragrance, is that the destatan who almost does not use perfumes or they never emphasize a designer's fragrance. The mixture of vanilla with black currants, is an agreeable, sweet aroma and I am bitter at the same time, balanced well. It wanted to use her already, with low temperatures, but in Argentina now it is hot. Good projection, good longevity. Raw materials of first, at all, not generic at all. Another Fueguia's masterpiece.

Black currant can go pissy on my skin, but not in this gorgeous fragrance. I think this is perfect for year-round wear, with the possible exception of arctic conditions. The musk and vanilla give this overall fresh scent some grounding. It also lasts all day and into the night. Their website lists the following notes: Passion Flower, Musk, Jasmine, Iris, Patchouli, Blackcurrant, Vanilla, Rose.

La Cautiva is a soft, fresh, feminine scent. I usually do not gravitate towards musks or fruity accords, but this is blended to perfection... It moves with you like a sweet, airy meringue cloud which makes it such an easy reach, and perfect for signature wear. The correct notes are: White Guava, Passion Flower, Musk, Jasmine, Iris, Patchouli, Blackcurrant, Vanilla, & Rose.

As someone who does not normally enjoy gourmand, fruity fragrances, I'm glad I gave La Cautiva a try. Its scent profile is so luscious and deep. La Cautiva is sultry and self-assured. She is magnetic, hypnotic, and distinct from many other vanilla fragrances. I get more of an amber quality from this scent (less blackcurrant), but I enjoy it nonetheless.

Reviewing extrait: This is amazing! Creamy, sweet, elegant and invigorating. It's strong but not overwhelming. Scent development is linear, so there are no surprises here, it's always awesome from start to finish. Incredible performance, duration and sillage (fills all of the rooms)! I think it's one of the best perfumes for women I have ever smelled.

Every time I wear this I get a different wear experience ... sometimes the blackcurrant stands out, sometimes the cassis stands out, sometimes the vanilla pops out more. Incredibly intriguing. 8.5/10 Edit: I declutterred this from my collection. Although the perfume is beautiful, I never found myself wanting to wear this.

Very intense scent of intoxicating tropical flowers and sweet candied fruits. I can smell lots of exotic flowers (frangipani and tiare) as well as fruits (banana, guava, coconut). Fresh yet creamy. This is simply amazing if you, like me, love black currants in perfume. It’s beautifully crafted with vanilla and white musk in the base. The black currants is at first candied and sweet and slowly becomes greener, with leafs and stems shining through. I love it.

This is lovely! This scent proves that you don’t need a long list of notes to make a memorable fragrance. With only three commonly used notes, I wouldn’t call this boring or simple at all. There is definitely some personality here. The black currant is strong and like another reviewer said...a little fizzy, yet the scent itself is soft and warm. It’s pretty sweet and I’m honestly surprised there is no cotton candy note listed. The longer it dries down, the better it gets. Longevity and sillage are great and even though it’s soft, limited sprays is all you need. I could still smell this faintly on my wrist the next day when I put my nose to it. Every single time I moved my arms or walked, beautiful wafts filled my scent bubble. I’m really impressed and this was a wonderful introduction to Fueguia 1833. I want to explore more from this house.

A simple and happy natural scent with only three notes. A delicate vanilla, a luscious black currant and plant based musk mallow. The scent immediately transports you to happy memories of childhood and eating confectionaries. The slightly feminine leaning scent has moderate sillage and lasts forever. Absolutely must try for vanilla and gourmand lovers. Enjoy!

My first thought when I sprayed this was, “Hmmm... that’s different!” It’s much more black currant than vanilla or musk. There is a heavy floral present here, too - especially in the dry down. But I think I’d classify it as a fruity fragrance. I think I like it but it may have to grow on me, so I’ll update later on.

now this one smells mouthwateringly good. I am tempted for sure... but then the performance isn't stellar, sits very close, escapes too soon. I'll opt for one of the solstice oils, they are just as yummy and yet won't break the bank.

This smells like Hallon/lakrits skalle, in english Raspberry/Liquorice Skull. It's a Swedish candy in the shape of a skull with one black half and the other half is red. What color tastes like what I guess all gets.

Such a warm, creamy fragrance. Be careful if you have cats though, they absolutely love it and scratch my sweater so much if I leave it lying around after wearing it with this scent!

This smells like a fruitier Rania J Musc Moschus. It’s also much softer. I find Rania J to be a bit loud for a musk fragrance. I enjoy this more.

Surprised by this one. Loved the opening as it reminded me of summers with my mum. Straight up sunshine and her gleaming fragrantly covered in Piz Buin suntan oil. Bougie suntanning oil - before growing ever more fruity and at last smelling like Classique Intense (gold bustier on the clear bottle) ... too fruity for me. But I did enjoy the opening. Beastly and lasts forever.

on the box from the house it is classified as a musk/gourmand with notes of cassis, vanilla and rose. packaging was beautiful too. This fragrance does something to me. It is pretty simplistic but thats what makes it beautiful. A fruity vanilla that is nothing like anything I've smelled before.

Blackcurrant takes the lead, paired with a vanilla note that isn't sweet and even carries a slightly medicinal feel. It's really simple — whether you like it or not depends on how you feel about blackcurrant. Personally, I find it a bit too fruity.

Soft and fruity with a gentle musky touch. Easy to wear and feels nicely blended.

I read the lovely reviews, so ordered a sample from Luckyscent. I truly wanted to like this, musk, blackcurrant and vanilla...yum! However, I was put off after trying it. Maybe my chemistry did not mix well, but after about an hour I had to wash it off. Sorry!

Usually I'm not the lover of vanilla and musk in fragrance but this mix here makes it smell like blackcurrant ice cream. Very smooth and sweet. loved it in the crispy cold morning reminded me of summer. Edit: Somehow I smell amber in it.

It’s not my type of musk. To me, it smells very cheap and sticky. It reminds me of hairspray.

I had the pleasure of visiting a Fueguia 1833 store today and was taken on an olfactory journey I didn't think was possible. I never heard of this company prior to today, but out of boredom I decided to see what visiting a niche house was like and I was not disappointed. I originally came in thinking that I would pick up Quilombos. I had checked the notes out online and thought that it was right up my alley. Sweet, caramel, and creamy. However, I found it to be a bit too milky for me. The woman working in the store then showed me a few other scents (Xocotal which is sexy and dark, and Juan Manuel which is one of the best roses I've ever smelled) however, I had to stop in my tracks when she sprayed La Cautiva on me. I was shocked. The scent is so unique and elegant, while remaining comforting and fun. La Cautiva opens up with a juicy musk. Idk if that's even possible, but it's what I get. It's full of life, dare I say a little bit fizzy, but very opulent. As the scent dries down it gets sweet and creamy -- so far away from cloying. It smells like homemade vanilla ice cream, smooth and buttery, with pieces of black currant woven within this enchanting little potion. Maybe even a bit of confectionary sugar sprinkled on top. It's not gourmand in the warm cake/cookie/candied kind of way, but in a very cool -- slightly frosted -- kind of way. I actually cannot stop smelling my hand where I placed the tester. This scent is so romantic. I think this would be perfect for dates, brunches, meeting parents for the first time (lol), etc. All the moments in life where that tinge of sweetness, hope, comfort, and love may need an extra boost. This scent is perfectly versatile. You really could wear this anywhere, in any situation, in any season. The vanilla keeps this fragrances slightly warm enough to comfort you in the cold weather, but the cassius and musk keep it cool and grounded. I honestly cannot wait until the summer rolls around. I think in the summer this fragrance will literally be magic. It is sweet in all the right ways without shouting. It's dazzling. A hidden gem, if I've ever found one. Longevity on this is very good. One spray on my wrist from trying it in the store has lasted 8 hours, it's faint now but still there and very fluffy when I smell myself. I'm sure that spraying this 2 or three times would last you all day long, and when a good breeze blows your way? A dream. Projection is good, but leans more on the intimate side with the small amount I've tried. It's one of those scents where it walks in with you, and not before you. Anyone close enough to you will pick up on it and will be trying to bury their face in the crook of your neck. So excited for my bottle to come in the mail. Julian, if you are reading this, please send me another bottle to have when I run out of this. You are a marvel perfumer.

Oh man buying anything from this house is a GAMBLE :-( Let me explain why, I think I can save some of you quite a lot of money. And also explain why they don't sell samples... Their batches are not consistent at all. Each year the perfume is slightly or significantly different. Same applies to this one. It is really unfortunate because when I first tested it from a small sample years ago it was amazing. I then went ahead and ordered a bigger decant - this is something I always do with such expensive perfumes. Guess what, it was like a different perfume! I was so confused I tested it again from a different place and then again. Until I actually talked to someone in the business of selling perfumes and they explained that this house is notorious for (sadly) inconsistent quality of their perfumes. And that they don't age well which means once you start using it you better use it up quickly - this shouldn't be a problem because if you love it you will be using it almost every day haha :-D No wonder the reviews are all over the place here :-D But after telling you about the problem with this house I'd like to offer a way to solve it if you want this or another perfume from them. Find a seller who is willing to decant a little for you from their own bottle and, if you like it, buy that same bottle. I find that this is the only way you can avoid buying $450 bottle only to then sell it for half the price on the second hand market. As for me personally I haven't yet pulled the trigger :-D I was hoping that Rania J's perfume could be a substitute but sadly it's not even close.

As a feminist, I had mixed emotions about the name, the story behind it, and implications of it, but it smells so good, I went for a FB. Great longevity and intensity. The strongest part of the scent is a very warm musk that hits you the minute you smell it. It smells like a clean body that has been wrapped in too many blankets and sweated while asleep. It's not a dark, funky musk in any way, but warm and fresh. Like humans wish they smelled naturally. (maybe that's supposed to be the scent of the captive woman's neck, I have no idea) The musk is all you smell for the first 5-10 minutes, when the juicy, green blackcurrant buds come in. The blackcurrants are the heart of the fragrance. When I burn my Diptyque Baies candle, I notice the similarity. The vanilla is the least pronounced part of the scent. I like things sweet so I wear a vanilla body lotion with it. It basically keeps the blackcurrants on the sweet side rather than green. Not as sweet as Falling in Love, but sweeter than Trish McEvoy, and smells endlessly more expensive than either of them. But it is more of a fruity scent than a vanilla scent. The mint I don't smell in this bottle at all, but I have smelled it in earlier samples. It dries down sweet into a finely mixed, elevated version of blackberry jam. Nothing stays on me, but this is still full tilt a couple hours later

Not gonna lie, this one is my favorite perfume by Julian Bedel. I think I am being basic but I just can't help myself, the smell - it's beautiful! I think I could even say this is one of the most incredible 'light' vanilla scents I have ever encountered in my life. It's feminine, intoxicating, and enveloping though out the day. But it's not your basic girly vanilla! It's a vanilla scent for the most beautiful woman! It is mass appealing, but I think it is just because it is made to the point of perfection. From me 10/10! I love this perfume house because they use just a couple of ingredients and make miracles out of them, and all of the scents play with your skin chemistry so they become very unique. I can't put this scent in one category for me it could be a scent for a wild summer night, but also great for a calm joyful and in a way elegant day. Very versatile vanilla scent. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! And I also want to appreciate the longevity!!!! You will have this smell lingering on you throughout the day. It is radiating its magic because people will tell you compliments with this one trust me. Heavenly scent!

Mature take on a powdery and mildly sour fruity floral, achieving that somewhat tropical yet very floral feel that many guava-focused perfumes go after, unlike Yrupé or Mbucuruyá which are much more straightforward in their fruitiness. I personally don't get much of that "cat urine" feel to this, the blackcurrant is very well blended and does give off more of a guava feel, making this one of the least experimental creations by the brand. Given that this is one of the most popular fragrances by Fueguia 1833, I wanted to mention the wonderful experience I've had with the EU site support team: I initially received the wrong 6 perfumes on my "Bitácora de Composición", but shortly after getting in contact, I was not only shipped my new order with priority and taxes paid, but I was also given 6 free samples and allowed to keep the incorrect kit as well. I very much recommend the brand to anyone curious, it's as interesting as it seems, yet not as experimental or scary as it might look. I received a sample of this from a company with my bottle of Mbucuruya just recently and my sample smelled very green with almost no fruitiness or vanilla. Almost even minty in the background and bitter. Just not good. I just sprayed it out of a full bottle today and it smells completely different! Now I get the fruitiness and sweetness. Wondering what the heck happened. Good thing I tried it again, I love it! Edited to add: I’ve had this for 8 months now and it’s changed quite a bit over that time. It’s gotten sweeter and juicier. I even bought a backup bottle after hearing it may be harder to get in the U.S going forward.

On application, sweet vanilla cotton candy, subtle flower, and musk. I like this scent a lot! A total gourmand. A little feminine, but totally delicious. As with all Fueguia frags, this recipe is unique just like what you would expect from a niche, top quality perfumer. Yes, Fueguia is expensive in the USA and this is ONLY because of the artificially inflated exchange rate of the AR peso - not the fault of Fueguia! If you exchange your dolares using the bluedolar rate, you will see that these frags are very affordable. I bought 7 absoluts (stronger than EDP) from the store in Recoleta.

the official story behind this is that its the smell of a captive's neck when caught by the Indians: "Vanilla and musk for the milky skin, and flowers in her hair.." I don't get that association - its very young, playful, happy smell. the official fueguia site also lists rose. I like how it's blended with the blackcurrant note giving a yummy sour-powdery accord. opens a bit bubblegummy, but the sweetness is not cloying, its fresh and airy. the brands signature base is also very prominent.

I never liked black current until now. It always smelled artificial and syrupy. This fragrance smells so sweet, fresh and realistic, like you're wearing an actual sweet juicy, slightly green minty berry. And then there's the vanilla. This doesn't seem gourmand to me as in it doesn't smell edible or like a baked good. But it is very sweet. Sweet and fruity, but realistic and not synthetic and headache inducing as many other "sweet fruity" perfumes come across to me.

I thought I liked vanilla and blackcurrant, so I jumped at the chance to get this perfume. However, something is bothering me-one of the notes is just too much. I am still in the process of learning what notes I like vs. I don't like, so this review is a reflection of my taste more than it is of the perfume. This vanilla smells very similar to the 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods perfume, so if you're a fan of that one, you'll like this too.

It starts fruity but not particularly fresh. It has a designer-ish quality to it. Unfortunately in the very dry down, within in about 1 hour, it starts getting a very heavy smell on the skin. Like a cheap vanilla-patchouli but heavy and sickly sweet. I smell the same thing in the drydown of Mbucuruya, I can see why some people voted it as a resembling fragrance. I would definetely not wear it during summer. Do not blind buy it.

Do not feel anything floral or fruity in this perfume. Musk, vanilla and black currant which any of them I feel transformed on my skin into the unique struggle of two scents - the homy flavor of the baked milk against some animalistic odor. Surprisingly it is like yin and yang where no one wins or loses. Definitely it is a very interesting fragrance to try on.

This is my first time experiencing black currant and there’s something about it in this particular fragrance that reminds me of cilantro. I like it but I feel like overall this is very shampoo-ish. It’s not as special as the reviews made it seem. Just my opinion.

Sniffed this one just from the bottle today and immediately liked it! That is extremely rare for me! Almost NEVER happens. But I had been trying out other perfumes and got tired, so I didn't even test it on the strip. I have to go back and check it out properly.

I was looking forward to trying this because I love black currant, but, unfortunately, it’s mostly sugar and vanilla. I didn’t smell black currant/cassis at all. A simple fragrance, very sweet and sugary.

I have it, though it s really sweet, you never get tired and it s refreshing, a positive fragrance, a good mood one. I like la cautiva a lot! But I would like more consistence or personality on this one.

Sooo much better than Rania J. The dry down of that one is just too woody and loud- gives me a headache. This one is soft, delicate, fruity...amazing!
