Malón

review from my wife Malón Fueguia 1833. The one who has withdrawn from the world. Depending on the purpose. It could be a monk, secluded with his prayers, balancing both light and dark energies. A Mapuche reconnaissance warrior, traveling alone, scanning the expanse of the land of "clayey water" with all senses. A master of roads, practicing his asceticism, slashing through the pampas, desert, and mountain ridges. Or someone else... It doesn't matter which religion the person carries within themselves. In their travel bag - a clay vessel entwined with old vines, remnants of cracked sealing wax around the neck, with red dry wild plum jam, dried apricots, a piece of hard goat cheese, honeycombs wrapped in parchment, boldo leaves, a variety of spices blended into a common mass, rosin, copper plates. The satchel warms up under the sun's rays, much like the traveler's clothing. It emits "its" scent, where everything has blended, and it's no longer clear if the person who imparted their scent to the items or if the scent of the items has penetrated them. It seems as if there's steam rising from the horse's back, carrying warmth from the pasture, along with the scent of warm hay and cow dung "cakes." And Malón hasn't washed his clothes for a long time. It all sounds so harmonious that you'd want to cling to the recluse's shoulder and never let go. Never! One of my favorite fragrances from the brand! About the beauty of the surrounding world, the warmth of the sun, and the embrace of "one's" person. I mentioned the boldo plant in the previous post, and in the photo around the bottle, you can see its dried leaves. Boldo is an endemic plant growing in Argentina and Chile between 33 and 40 degrees south latitude. It's the first local tea we tried when we arrived in the country. Upon the first inhale and sip, I realized I knew this scent! It's in Malón! I pondered before the journey, which component is responsible for this lactonic, camphoraceous, the scent of sun-warmed, ripe hay, tangy spiciness... Something I didn't know. And how joyful it was to get acquainted with boldo here! Yes, local brands use Boldo Leaf Oil in perfumery. And IFRA prohibits it. The plant is valued mostly for its medicinal properties, extensively described on the internet. Its indications for use suit me, so I enjoy tea from its leaves and wish to have boldo in a pot at home.

A beautiful though not very complex expression of resinous labdanum and smooth, woody oud. I see why some would call it animalic, but certainly not in the barnyard way. Fueguia’s Patagonian oud isn’t stinky like that—it is woody, smooth, and a little floral/fruity. I tried both the first and second batches from 2022. Ultimately, bought the second batch. It came across as stronger, darker, more animalic. The first batch is brighter, lighter, but maybe with clearer note articulation. Would love to hear other’s thoughts on the batch differences.

A lovely simple musky wood scent designed as a tribute to warrior raids conducted in the Patagonian desert. The scent like most Fuegeias has the simplest of construction. It begins with plant based pheromones, moves to a labdanum resin heart and settles on Patagonian Oud. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. Naturally beautiful, but not extraordinary. Enjoy!

Malon is a resinous and animalic fragrance. The opening is sharp. There is also some rather noticeable oud, and it is not the sweet western type. As time passes, the sharp animalic opening softens and the fragrance becomes more resinous. It is a well crafted and high-quality fragrance that to my nose leans heavily to the masculine side. Amazing for men who are into high-quality animalic fragrances. Great for colder weather wear. The performance is very good as well.

Labdanum heavily tinged with the dry scent of goat hair, dry animalic dusty accords wrap around the Oud and musk to paint a rugged picture. Lots of a dynamone type smell. Very sweaty and resinous. Awesome
