Otro Poema de los Dones

This is my favorite all-wood scent and I’ve sampled a ton. It’s neck and neck with Tom Ford’s Oud Wood as my all time top fragrance. It’s also the most unique, over-the-top woody scent I’ve ever tried – uniqueness is definitely a trend with Fueguia. There’s no overpowering pencil shavings or hamster cage effect to this wood, which seems to be the downfall of many other wood scents. There is what I think is a subtle citrus note but I can’t put my finger on it exactly. I have the eau de parfum version and wow, does this last forever. It lingers for days on my sweaters and scarves. Projection is really impressive as well. I wish the nozzle had an option for a less voluminous spray because one spray really fills the room.

I like it and wear it, but on my skin it eventually smells like a single note - cedar shavings. I don't hate cedar shavings, mind you, but I wish the lasting scent was a little more complex.

One of my favorites, together with the pre reformulated El Otro Tigre, Candido López and Juan Manuel de Rosas. Unfortuantely, discontinued. Since my bottle was gone I decided to get a new one without being aware of the news. Once in the store I was told it was out of production, thus I decided on one close to it: Dunas del Cuerpo (Oud, Olibanum, Sandalwood) was the logical decision since the original was all about oud. However, Otro Poema had a seriousness Dunas lacks, and it was a tiny bit more complex from what is usual among the ones I tried, I guess this is one of the Houses characteristics. I had the chance of trying one of Byredo's sharing notes with Otro Poema, unfortunately I can't remember which (was it Bibliotheque? However it is described as sweet, while Otro Poema was far from it). As to Dunas del Cuerpo (unlisted here in Fragrantica), it has notes in common with Histoires de Parfum 1720. Edit: Once home I tried it and found to my surprise that the notes after the tester were not the same as to the ones after the one I bought. And, as a matter of fact, this had more points in common with the one I had. Two possible causes: their production line is a mess, or ageing of raw materials is the cause of this. As a matter of fact, many of the ones I knew that I retried during my visit to the shop smelt somehow different to what I recalled. So take Fueguia's reviews with a pinch of salt. You don't know what you will find.

Facts: Nice packaging. Looks great on your fragrance shelf(makes you look like a real connoisseur). This has the strength of an eau de cologne. Longevity is poor and sillage is soft. The opening smells nutty with a hint of rum. Every 5 minutes, you smell less and less till it vanishes. Opinion: I can't believe that Fueguia has the unmitigated gall to produce something so fleeting and unsavory while arrogantly placing a high price tag for this item. $240 dollars for a 47 minute fragrance? I don't think so. I don't want to hear this nonsense about[In my snob voice] "The perfume is pricey due to the obscurity of the ingredients". What's most frustrating is Otro doesn't smell bad. It's a victim of familiarity within it's own house. I guess that's what happens when you release 6,000 wood frags within a 3 year span. My vitriolic attack isn't meant to cause a furor but instead raise the awareness of the value or lack of that's presented...
