Pulpería

Lovely woody incense. Intense elemi. Upon application, it has a bit of a camphorous, pine-like effect, but it soon wears down into a beautiful and natural cedar and semi-sweet resin. The perfume is certainly not "sweet" like candy or sugar, but in comparison to another Fueguia 1833 perfume I sampled, this one is not quite as dry. The pepper seems to provide a masculine edge rather than being piquant to the nose; i.e. this is not a "nose-tickler", as I like to say. I love woody scents, and Pulperia is a wonderful one. The only drawback for me is something synthetic blended in that gives me a headache, but I love the fragrance so much that I still kind of want it!

A simple natural woody aromatic meant to evoke the smell of a unique South American combined grocery store and tavern establishments that existed couple hundreds of years ago. I can only detect about four notes here. The key is a resinous elemi surrounded by notes of pepper, cedar and the signature Fuegeia plant based pheromones. The unisex scent has moderate sillage and very good longevity . If these establishments smelt like this I would never want to leave. Enjoy!

I think there are more than 120 fragrances currently in this brand collection. I am very lucky to have a sample of over 97. I wish I could have started in alphabetical order, but I started randomly toward the end. This one is currently number 16. You may think this is not important, but it is essential to recognize and identify reoccurring traits in the brand’s identity. Initially, there is a burst of fresh wood and stemmy greens. That fades quite fast and then transitions into what the fragrance ends up being. And that is leather. Through and through. I am not the biggest fan of that particular note, so I don't have many references to give you. I do have knowledge of quality however. And there is certainly Quality here. Just like all other Julian fragrances, it is very crisp and pure smelling. There is no residual of anything. I am no expert, but I think that is very difficult to do. If I had to wear or was forced to wear a leather fragrance, this will be it. You are still connected to the Earth in a fragrance that typically does not associate with that at all. There is a spirit here. Some people don't care about stuff like that, but I find that very important. This is a solid recommendation even if I am not drawn to the construction.

So what I get with this one is the combination of three listed notes, but also with heaps of an amberwood molecule in the back, adding a massive blanket of a warm resinous resonance to the whole composition. While that may sound like critique, it isn't, the amber elements seems to mellow out the dry harsh core notes of cedar and elemi and the result evokes the sweet resinous yet harsh woody and dry scent of dense log of cedarwood caked in resin. On a personal level, I don't love it but appreciate the interpretation. It is however undoubtedly overpriced for what it is, a large woodsy accord.

The first sniff made me remember of a piece furniture I had that was rotten because of the humidity and it's what this is to me: a sharp humid wood with resin. The wood becomes more gentle when it dries down but not the sweetness of the pine like resin. Not my kind of perfume
