Floating Forest

I absolutely love this mutant fougère. From afar, it reads bittersweet and woody-oudy-goody with a tinge of pine and citrus. Very fresh and on the edge of being sharp, which I adore. As it dries down, on my chemistry, it reads animalic, almost vinegary, or like a linseed-turpentine accord. I feel like I'm oil painting outside on a winter day as I wear this. My cheeks are ruddied and cracked as I bend my head to view my painters pallette, the subject in the middle ground, the background of horizon above my easel, in the biting cold....it's bracing and feels wet but a sharp icy wet, or a metal-concrete petrichor rather than a dank forest floor carpeted in leaves. This frag also delights me with a cold, bracing throat-feel. My chest feels like when growing up I would run outside in the cold dark morning and take huffs of the air I could see. Doing laps and quickly sucking cold air deep into my lungs. It also reminds me a little of hair spray, but in a good, nostalgic association way, lol. I think that's the cedar or papyrus. Up close, Floating Forest is vanillic and ....indolic? Somehow? That totally caught me off guard, as my favorite scents often do! The indoles feel and taste a little more soapy than dirty, and yet there is a persistent dusty funk that glints on the surface there, like a skimming water bug or a moth on the breeze. I AM ADDICTED. I would say by itself, it is spicy yet cool, playful but stark. I love scents that have layers and tension, or contradicting elements. To funk up its freshness, I suggest layering Floating Forest either with Lattafa Maitha oil (two words: camphoric tonka) or vintage Femme by Rochas, which is a classic animalic-fruity chypre. All the various notes complement each other beautifully. YMMV, as my layering tastes often veer towards the unhinged. It has good sillage, radiates decently, and makes a nice scent bubble around me. It feels intimate and yet not so commanding as to offend others but I could see it being irritating to some, as others here have noted. I feel it sliiiightly giving me a headache as I wear it but it is so worth it if you pick up any of what I put down here.

This was the most surprising blind receive (FabFitFun box) I've ever had. I don't think I paid attention to anything other than it was woody and I love woody. And I love perfume so choosing this over socks wasn't hard. I got socks in my free box too so I'm blessed. I don't love aquatic or green or many florals or whatever this is supposed to be but I am now a damp mossy stone laid before the altar of Jérôme Epinette and maybe I'm strange because I love this so much I can see myself abandoning the majority of my very large mostly niche collection and wearing this on repeat, nay, as a signature scent for the foreseeable future. I do love petrichor when it plays with ancient archives but this is something else. I looked over this Master's other work and it made sense when I read he was responsible for Black Lotus by Floral Street which is another strange but very me (and very polarizing) scent. And smells like the exact opposite of this in every way. Well there's rose I guess though here it's mild compared to the freesia. It's super long lasting and full of wrist sniffing satisfaction and it's not like anything else I've ever smelled. A woman chased me down the street already and I've worn it out twice in the middle of the day running around LA and it's been highly complimented if that's your goal. I already ordered four bottles and the skin set because when I love something this much it's getting discontinued (moment of silence for Bvlgari Black...)

I got the travel samples and the first time I tried this, it was hardly there. Today was round 2 - and you can definitely over apply this. Headache. Too much bergamot at the top. Not sure I will end up using this again. Very fresh and green but soooo sharp and then too sweet. It reminds me of Pulp (Byredo) in being extra extra. Weird b/c that’s a fruit and this isn’t. Need to clear my head and see how this plays out in dry-down. Next day - the dry-down is 🔥. Love it. The sharpness recedes and by spraying on clothes (no stains that I’ve seen) I get a gentle waft here and there. Smell my wrists obsessively. My partner is sensitive to strong scents (most of the frags I like are too strong for me to use before bed - nouveau monde, looking at you), but I was able to touch up my wrists before bed and get that smell comfort throughout the night. I look at the nose and of course it’s Jérôme. Sadly, with the rollout of the wash and lotions, this line is ripe for Sephora. The price point isn’t Neiman territory, so I say stock up now.

Lush, Floral, Aquatic, Woodsy, Fresh, Immersive Smells like sitting on a rock next to a clear spring full of blooming water lilies in the center of lush forest after the rain; a rainbow peaks through the soft rays of sunshine and grey clouds. This scent is renewal in a bottle, full of possibilities yet grounded in reality. Floating Forest captivates my imagination and immerses me in another world. It makes me feel like a solarpunk princess wearing a purple draped linen dress embellished with green mossy appliques and a headpiece made from leaves, twigs, and flowers. I am not a huge Avatar fan but I have seen the movies and this is how I imagine Pandora may smell. It is is timeless as in it somehow transcends the rules of linear time and the past, present, and future meld into one. Art and science work together in harmony in the world of Floating Forest. Sillage: 3/5 Projection: 3/5 Longevity: 4/5 Scent: 5/5 Leans unisex.

This is a wow for me. I am forever on the search for a perfect petrichor scent that is complex and unusual and I think I found my true love. Yes, the wet rock scent is there but it's much more complicated and balanced with florals and pepper. Unlike Miranda Priestly, I do love freesia and I think that might be the element that takes this over the top for me. The person that described this as a wood nymph sitting on a wet rock in a stream is absolutely correct. What makes it perfect is it's somehow both a cold and warm scent if that makes any sense. My favorite cold scent is TF Soleil Neige and this one is giving it a run for it's money, yet it's warm and creamy too, depending on when you smell it on your skin. It's sheer voodoo I tell you. I'm glad Future Society hasn't sold out (yet) and I hope to never see this in Ulta or Sephora as I feel like it's my beautiful little secret. This friends, is a winner.

Wow, I love this. The notes caused the illusion of cucumber or some kind of melon at first to my inexperienced nose. That must be water lily, which I'm not sure where else I would have experienced that smell in real life. Anyway I smell the wood and rocks now! Instantly going on shopping list for full size. I want to bathe in it. Smells just like how it would feel to be a diver surfacing in a patch of lily pads, then to leave the water and dry off on a slab of sunny rock as the current swirls random leaves and branches past you lazily from faraway upstream. Update: Bought two full size bottles and the shower gel. Cannot wait. Best blind buy ever!! This scent is magical to me and I normally like very "dark" gothy things which this is definitely not.

This stuff is an eye-opening, fresh thrill. Feels brand new, foreign, challenging, and even a little dangerous. Not dangerous-sexy, but innocent-dangerous. It reminds me of my first few experiences traveling internationally as a teenager. It requires a little bravery. The synthetic smell reported is actually enjoyable and exciting to me. It makes it feel like a strange, new place with wall-to-wall, newly manufactured carpet. It almost goes to a surreal Backrooms place, which just speaks to my creepy heart. Update: 4 months later, I've put a pretty serious dent in this tiny bottle. I hope Future Society updates their bottle size options before I need to repurchase. I don't want to be without this one!

I am a fledgling fan of Future Society. The Optimal Habitat didn't make my perfumes last, but I do enjoy their scents. Floating Forest feels like a younger, fresher MFK 724. I like the freshness, with a slight floral that is very quiet. The watery and airy feel is refreshing, even in the winter. The lasting power is non-existent. If you don't mind respraying, this is a nice pick! (I picked it in the Winter Fabfitfun box. I was thrilled it was an option.) I also enjoy this scent in the K8 hair treatment limited edition collab (which is where I smelled the scent first). I also own Solar Canopy (which feels like a younger, fresher version of Delina, albeit doesn't have the lasting power).

When I say I want something light and fresh but unique, this is a perfect example. There is no coconut in Floating Forest’s DNA, but I get a soft, green, and creamy coconut anyway on my skin. There’s also a slight petrichor or wet concrete note, a touch of wood and drizzled rain, and just a hint of pepper. This is dewy and pretty and clean, but it melts into the skin in an almost waxy and flattering way. I have sniffed similar things, yes, but not nearly so well balanced and rich yet ethereal and soft. Projection grows with drydown, so be careful with sprays. This is what I wished some other fragrances had been but missed the mark due to “dry” wood or too much pepper or other things.

This is unlike any other scent I’ve met - I’m not just sniffing my arm throughout the the day, I’m finding myself deeply inhaling it the way I take deep breaths when I’m walking in a damp redwood forest or strolling along a cold foggy beach. It doesn’t actually smell like either of those places (though closer to redwood forest than beach) but my reaction is the same. It’s like an ozone or petrichor feeling without actually containing those notes. I think it’s the wet stone combined with an airy green freshness. It does have a peppery note which I think adds interesting complexity, but isn’t something everyone will love.

This might be the most impressive scent in the Future Society. When you open the box of all the samples, there’s just a nice green creamy scent that takes over the entire set. My first impression is that is smells like a Ferraro Rochelle chocolate but instead of being brown chocolate-y, it’s green kind of like it grew. After a while, you can start smelling elements of nature such as dirt and rocks. I can imagine how some people would be turned off by it but I love it. There’s also a very obvious watery mineral scent to it which makes it nostalgic. Overall, it is an awesome scent.

I adore this scent. It’s truly unique and evocative. I love anything that smells green and wet. My fave perfume ever is Bracken Woman by Amouage if that tells you anything. This fragrance makes me feel like I’m standing under giant redwood trees, somehow right next to the sea. The trees are dripping from a morning rain, sunlight filtering through the leaves.The wet stone note gives this an prehistoric feeling, like a brontosaurus might saunter through munching on leaves. For a pagan like me, it’s one of the fragrances that feels like ritual in a bottle.

I love this fragrance....it smells like lichen on an ancient boulder, after a morning rainstorm, drying in the sun. The company is using the DNA of long extinct plants and flowers to create this fragrance. It feels like being the first human to walk in a primordial forest...of course I wish it lasted longer, but for me, nothing lasts long enough. Even though there’s no coconut listed, it does smell like a creamy coconut fragrance with a slight marine air because of the damp stone quality. It’s amazing for summer. It layers amazingly with Divine by JPG.

I haven't been able to stop wearing this scent since I got it. Green, aquatic, light beautiful florals and an amazing kick of pepper and bergamot. Smells like stumbling upon a crumbling overgrown lily pond in the middle of a mangrove or cyprus swamp. I wear this almost everyday, it makes me feel a real cool girl, kinda edgy, confident vibe-- which is a great way to start the morning. This is a perfume I can easily see myself buying another bottle because believe me, I AM going to be running through a whole bottle.

This is my first love after 5 years out of the frag world! When I was finally ready earlier this year, I came across Future Society and got a discovery kit. I fell in love with Floating Forest immediately. I have never smelled anything like it and it was just so perfect for late Winter in Los Angeles. Floating Forest reminds me of when I lived in the Bay Area and would go hiking in Wildcat Canyon under the trees...green, damp, wet stone, earthiness. It's a beautiful scent.

I really like this one. It is wet, vegetal, and sweet with a delicious musky undertone. It's almost fruity in the sense that its smell reminds me very literally of the type of wild berry that tastes disgusting to everything but birds. Future Society is for people who like nature scents. This particular nature scent will hit very close to home for those who love to spend an afternoon wandering the woods near a deciduously-shaded creek or river.

This perfume is the closest I’ve ever come to actually smelling like an earthy fairy frolicking through an enchanted forest. It’s ethereal and green, and it paints a vivid picture of dewdrops on moss and sunlight filtering through ancient trees after the rain. Every time I wear it, I feel like I should be barefoot in the woods picking flowers or talking to mushrooms or something. Needless to say, I really love it lol.

This scent is WILD. Wet stone. Driftwood. This is totally atmospheric and GOOD. The more I smell it, the more I like it. Very surprising at first, though. This could easily be layered with a basic floral scent to give it an earthy grounding. Edit- I’ve had this for a couple months now and I literally crave it. I love layering it with Believe by Britney Spears, oddly? It’s like the perfect woodland fairy scent pairing.

I blind bought this perfume and I enjoy it! It smells fruity and green. It reminds me of diptyque philosykos just on that green note! It’s very aquatic and fresh. I will say it’s not a groundbreaking scent but it’s perfect for summer. If you are really curious about it and love green and aquatic notes I’d say it’s a safe blind buy for you.

I really like this! To me, it literally smells like wet pebbles or stones, soil-esque and petrichor-y. It's as if you're walking on a riverbank after it's rained, and it's an interesting atmospheric scent for sure. If you're expecting something simple or designer, this isn't it; this is more of an experimental but still likeable niche.

It’s not loud at all, but it pulls you in... cozy, grounding, and kinda emotional in the best way 🫶 Like a deep breath for your soul. Makes you feel peaceful, a bit introspective, and lowkey magical 🍃💭

I do smell like a rock that is wet but like how a poet would describe the wet rock, sitting in the middle of a sunny, but cool forest floor.

This is my favorite fragrance. It is so earthy and smells like a Zen Garden with the wet stones and water lilies.

Such a creative and unique scent. Floating forest is evocative of a marshland, with spears of green reeds poking out from a dense carpet of water lilies and other flowers. The reeds have an intense sharp and green aroma, verging on piercing in intensity, which is cradled and gentled by the musky and salty velvety dense fragrance of the florals. All this rests on top of a bed of minerality, like what you might smell in the mud rich waters the lilies grow on. But there is also a strong feeling of freshness, almost ozone, on the air. I wouldn’t call these notes well blended, they very much keep separate and remain that way, but to me this makes the perfume interesting. You can never relax into it, so it’s challenging in that way but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t smell appealing. No, it’s very appealing. It has a wonderful piquancy and tanginess that makes it energetic and stimulating. It has very long longevity on skin of 12 plus hours and a scent bubble that extends to arms length.

The longer I wear it the more obsessed I become. At first spray, I was taken aback by the strength: usually, the potency on ozonic fragrances (typically my favorite) is quite low. However, this one lasts... and lasts, and lasts, and lasts. And the more it mellows on the skin, the more natural it becomes. There is something both novel and nostalgic about this one — it’s honestly a false fougere, a contemporary reinterpretation of the typical where base: musk/moss, middle: classic flora, top: bright citrus. What really brings it all home is the pool of peppery marine all the fougere elements float in, truly making it a FLOATING FOREST!!! Edit, several hours later: still smelling my wrists over and over. I don’t understand how it can read as so dry and woody AND wet and spicy at the same time. Genuinely a poem. Stumped my Pinterest aesthetic fragrance boards. This scent is not my normal cup of tea, but it is mystical. It has a green scent that is hard to describe- with a gentle sharpness to it I usually associate with vetiver (but it’s not vetiver, it’s more delicate than that.) There is a tangyness and a very aquatic facet. It does really remind me of wet stones, surrounded by bamboo. It really does tell a story- it’s definitely a vibe. I was surprised to find that it was still detectable over six hours after I put it on, after being inside and outside, sweating, and sweating some more. The remaining scent now that it’s settled is very peppery, on top of what I think is freesia and lotus. There’s a slightly woody base. Somehow, this scent manages to be a constant paradox. It’s strong, but subtle; bold and masculine but soft and feminine. Unique, but familiar. I don’t normally like aquatic scents but it’s hard not to love this. Definitely in my top two green scents, if not my new favorite.

I'm on the fence about this one. At first it I enjoy it, but after several hours it gets a bit nauseating. I am typically a light/floral person, so the cedarwood/musk might be what's getting to me. Has quite the longevity on me, can still smell it after 10/12 hour days. Also important to note I ALWAYS get compliments asking me what it is, so perhaps I project it well. One of my best friends I see regularly always asks me what it is and it's the same every time, LOL. Highly unique scent. It definitely has grown on me since first application; I did not try again for a few weeks after that. Now I am almost to the bottom of the 9ml bottle. Not an everyday scent, but good to wear when your dressing more masc. I would say not a safe blind buy, get sample pack. I did that and found that solar canopy was more my speed, even though it is less popular from this collection. Will not be purchasing again, but was fun to try.

not what i was expecting from this scent but awesome nonetheless! I thought I'd be in for more of a damp dirty sort of smell with the wet stone note, but instead I find this wet-adjacent! not like the pond or waterfall I pictured, but more so the way the sun quickly dries the creek water off the rocks it was splashed onto. this fragrance reminds me of the movie Columbus (2017). the protagonist works in a library and has an appreciation for architecture. it makes me think of her working in a eco-brutalist library with lots of stone and concrete but also plenty of plants, and how it might smell to sit by a water feature inside said library. highly recommend the movie!

Eek- I really wish I liked it more! Doesn't suit me personally, but is a wonderful and strange scent. I would get great projection out of it when layered with a vanilla lotion. What I dislike about it is difficult to place: sticking your nose under the lid of a somewhat dirty walstad method fish tank. Like, a clean pond but with a little bit of funk, a fancy duckweed. Which is why I layer with vanilla, tends to push that weird sniff to the background. Otherwise its quite nice and peppery fresh, albeit overwhelming upon first spray. I got it as a gift (from my mother who got it out of her FabFitFun box...instant no from her).

I applaud Future Society for it's unique concept (resurrecting the scents of extinct plants). The packaging is well done. I loved the plentiful, cream-colored tissue paper everything was wrapped in. I got the Discovery set and body washes. I had such high hopes for Floating Forest. In my mind, the scent of a fairy in an ethereal forest would be Caron's Nocturnes. Or belif ""The Garden", or even something very woody like Raphael's Replique. This is celery, green bell pepper, and yes, the watery rocks after the rain. I can't get too excited about it. Sillage & longevity not so good.

Algae. Definitely has an algae undertone. Normally I would say that’s a bad thing but it works here as a part of the sum, doesn’t linger, and is soon outweighed by the floral (especially the water lily and freesia) and musky notes. Smells fresh and the longevity is decent, at least on me. This was a blind buy selection in my Fab Fit Fun seasonal box and I’m not sorry. It inspired me to buy Future Society’s discovery set and that’s been fun if not a little hit or miss. But Floating Forest is a hit for me and unlike anything else in my collection.

I didn't like this scent at first but it grew on me after a while. Very clean and slightly piney. Not an everyday scent, too elegant for your average grocery store or park. The artificial side of the scent is a bit strong at first, but it calms down quickly. My mom said it kinda reminded her of baccarat rouge, but they're really only similar in terms of freshness and elegance. I can notice the pepper and the bergamot really well, I don't know what "wet stone" is supposed to smell like though.

This is an extremely nostalgic scent. It reminds me of something from my childhood but I can’t quite pin it down. The opening is extremely spicy but the dry down is absolutely lovely! It has something about it that makes it smell almost creamy or lactonic. It sits close to the skin but lasts quite a while. I will definitely be buying a full sized bottle soon and look forward to trying the rest of the scents from the discovery set.

I received this in a FabFitFun box (cannot remember which season/year) and I use this as a general daytime perfume, especially in the spring. It is very woodsy and green smelling. It is pretty intense when first applied, but I think the longevity is decent. I don't think I would buy this one again, but I do like it enough.

wish i was smelling what a lot of other people seem to be :(( this was definitely my favorite out of the discovery set but i swear that all of future society’s fragrances (except for haunted rose) have this dry hay aroma that permeates everything. could very well just be my skin chemistry but idk

Minty peppery opening, with a milky green drydown. Smells like milkweed and wet soil. Much sweeter than I was expecting it to be, which makes this a little safer for normal wear. I'm just not sure what occasion this would fit. Maybe a day at the botanical gardens?

Very interesting scent. love how it layers with florals and green smells. giving outdoors and water, skipping rocks on a cabin trip after you just had a clean shower. Cold shower, refreshing, ice water in the sun. Very interesting.

It's a solid like for me. It's fresh, green, mineral, almost coconutty (so I can see the resemblance to Arizona Bloom). I even get the slightest hint of mint. I'll enjoy my sample, but I don't like it enough to get a full bottle.

Very nice, pleasant, hard to pin down. Standing in a dappled forest by a running stream on a warm sunny day and you take a deep breath and say, "I wish they could bottle this." That is what it smells like to me.

One of the most unique fragrances in my collection! The notes are definitely very aquatic on me, smelling like one of those round wet rocks at an outdoor spa retreat. A very peaceful scent indeed.

I dont get much of the black pepper. To me it smells like wet paper and graphite.. I really enjoy it

I really appreciate this blend, and wish it was stronger, and maybe a bit gourmand. The name brings to mind moss, green, clean breezes, urban forests, precipiation, wetness. It smells to me like green creamy coconuts and sweet post-rain soil; like it would resemble the taste of a rain droplet sliding off of a fresh leaf. It's as sweet as frosting while still being very green, and the wet stone, papyrus, and driftwood definitely dominate the florals. No sharp corners, no bitterness - very very wet and creamy. Loving the uniqueness of the blend, but strength is a concern. This is the least long-lasting out of the collection, it dissappears almost immediately. I could see this being really nice for kids for that reason, and same with solar canopy.

This is a minty version of Arizona Bloom. Floating Forest has the same creamy salted musk as AB, just not as strong or sharp and without the men's cologne touch. I would still say this leans a touch masculine. I do not smell the wet stone or petrichor note many detect, but there is a watery green quality to this with a slight spicy and very green floral in the background (definitely wouldn't say this is a floral fragrance though). This is a very unique scent but don't think it's for me. Smells like it could be good for a men's body wash or deodorant.

I sadly don't love this. I was excited to receive it in a FabFitFun box and even bought the K18 hair mask in the matching scent. It's okay, but not sparking joy in me. Cold and wet, headache inducing if oversprayed. I think it fits that whole "clean girl" aesthetic if that's what you're going for, but that is not really what I'm ever going for. I wear it on days I use the K18 hair mask, so maybe once a month or so. Will probably sell my bottle (but not the hair mask! That stuff is magic).

Very different scent, it literally smells like a wet oak forest after a rainstorm. Some notes are soft, like the floral and the dry down woody notes last forever. I can't say it's something I reach for often, but when I do, it turns heads. I'm curious about the rest of the scents from this brand. I got this bottle from a subscription box. I'm not sure I would have purchased it otherwise. But I love having a variety of scent profiles in my collection.

I want to love this but there is one note that bothers me - I can't really place it. I've layered it with a cheap Jimmy Choo Rose Passion and it tones it down quite a bit. Layered with other perfumes I really like it but I can't wear it solo due to that one smell bothering me. It seems to last a long time which is great and fairly good projection for me. Very unique scent!

A bridal bouquet washed ashore. This fragrance has a lot of promise and is ambitious in trying to balance floral and marine notes. Unfortunately to my nose, the driftwood is very dense and salty, and fights the other notes for dominance. The result is not my favorite, but I can confidently say that this is a smell I have not ever smelt.

I’ve never really smelled anything like this. It’s earthy and herbal but also kinda smells like butt. Not like disgusting asscheeks but just... butt. It’s very, very mossy. I can’t isolate very much, everything blends together to smell like sweet dirt. Very peculiar and faint, but it lasts a very long time.
