Canaica

Quite an impressive, sophisticated, and elevated patchouli-powder Oriental! Notes here are somewhat misleading, if accurate. The patchouli cannot be discounted. If you dislike patch, look elsewhere. If you dislike powder, look elsewhere. Angel is a comparison for point of reference only. I actually smell more resemblance to Fancy Nights and a niche or two of past acquaintance. But the lilac and ylang ylang makes Canaica more floral than most fragrances in this category. Smells both expensive and rather lush. Unusually strong for a Grasse, France based fragrance - one spray may be enough. Utterly delightful for those who enjoy Orientals with a punch of patchouli. HIGHLY recommended.

first and foremost a vintage floral aldehyde with a touch of cocoa but not a typical modern gourmand; mostly sweet syrupy ylang with some tuberose and a hint of vintage raspberry to give that tart not fruity note; I see the comparison to Angel; this is not the same but a vague reminder of; this is far more vintage and floral and not gourmand or powerhousey; this has a bit of a spicy feel out of the gate like some carnation might be in there; love it but I love vintages ; as it dries down and the florals mute the comparison gets stronger and it gets more gourmand and less floral; this really has lovely stages; I have the vintage 15 ml bottle

I love love love this fragrance. I received a sample from Galimard when I bought Yavana Parfum. I find it is both warm and enveloping. On me, after a quick blast of ylang and lilaccy caramel it quickly settles into a beautiful vanilla oriental. It reminded me a little of Bvlgari Omnia (which I also love). Anyway, it's a good marketing ploy of Galimard to send out such samples as within a day of receiving them I ordered a 30ml bottle of canaica parfum, and can not wait until it gets here. Viva la Galimard!

At first whiff this reminded me of an old perfume my Mother wore many years ago, Tabu. I though oh no this is going to be headache material and I almost washed it off straight away. I am so glad I didn`t and was patient enough to allow it to settle and develop on my skin. Its a Winter perfume and you can imagine the smell lingering on woolly jumpers whilst sitting in front of a warm fire and drinking caramel latte. This is a perfume which tickled all of my senses.

This is what a grown up smells like. This is what sex smells like. This bottle of amber exiliar oozes sensuality, femininity, with a hint of animalic rebelliousness. Initial spray was pungent and sweet, like a tear gas made of caramel latte. But it soon gets tamed down by the lovely and harmonious mixture of ylang-ylang, jasmine, and tuberose. A well balanced gourmand floral sex bomb for someone who has "been there and done that". Children, keep away.

This perfume attests to a quality of ingredients in Galimard creations, becauae even though I haven't sampled other Galimards, it blends together very nicely, one can pinpoint the different notes, and the base is warm with a perfumey vibe that is decidedly French.There is a touch of sweet tuberose, the sweet heaviness of ylang ylang, but they are gently buried under a caramelic amber and vanilla shade. There is a certain quantity of lilac, which is an iffy note for me. The smell of real life lilac is one of the best smells in the world, but perfume lilac can often smell weird--somewhat sweet and powdery in a nice and very unique way, with a touch of screechiness that sounds like the voice if living lilac saying "How dare you try to copy me?" That lilac powder is there, initially popping out as an unpleasant edge that ruins it all. But it warms up and smells so rich, that I keep sniffing my wrist in awe. There is even the most mute raspberry touch, that tart sweetness. Going to retest and perhaps even wear to work. This perfumey perfume smells good!

Canaica is a delightful oriental gourmand perfume along the lines of Angel by Thierry Mugler. This is the perfume for you if you are unable to wear Angel for whatever reason. Dominant notes of powdery lilac, caramel, raspberry and patchouli make this scent perfect to wear for the colder autumn/winter months and to satisfy your sweet craving. Be warned it can be quite strong and heady so go easy on the sprayer!

On first spray this blew my head off it was so intense and heavy. Tonka and Ylang ylang at war. Sickly, cloying and I hated it but left it on to see where it went. It dried down to the flower notes but I didn't get any raspberry at all on me. Still very very strong. This can't be faulted on staying power. Many hours later I was left with the vanilla and hints of the mid notes with a shade of the amber. I could still smell it the next morning after a lunchtime spray. My take on this was only use if you have a few hours alone first and can stand the wait with a peg on your nose. However one upside and the reason I'll be doing just that: It definitely appeals to the male of the species! I wore this out to a club full of gorgeous girls dressed to kill. With virtually no make up and in plain jeans and T shirt I was beating them off with a stick. The only other time I wore it out it had exactly the same effect. If it wasn't for that I'd be using it as bathroom spray.

Canaïca is sweet in a non-foody/gourmand way, it is foremost an elegant and lush floral. There is a hint of Bond No 9 Nuits de Noho and/or a little bit of Mugler Angel (except so much brighter and fresher) with this one in the beginning. The brightness from the bergamot subdues the sweetness from the caramel during the initial spray. The rich floral notes of tuberose, ylang-ylang and lilac softly dominates during the dry down, while the amber joins the floral notes and warms it up. Vanilla keeps it sweet but stays only in the background. The scent has a sensual femininity and a lovely classic feel to it. Canaïca envelopes the wearer with an understated cloud of grace and beauty. I have the Eau de Parfum version and it is quite noticeable and enduring ... lingered on my skin for over 10 hours and for days on my coat. Galimard CANAICA happily matches the perfume that I wore to bed last night: Bond no. 9 NUITS DE NOHO. Sweet floriental patchouli. Yum. Is CANAICA as good as NUITS? It's close. I'd have to wear it several times before I could decide. For now, on the basis of my 2ml sample spray vial, let's just say that I'm enjoying the experience. CANAICA is less potent than NUITS, which must be applied judiciously, as pure perfume, in order to be enjoyed, since it's very easy to over do. But the general feeling is the same. Luxury and and warmth. Patchouli and vanilla. Flowers swirling about in the midst of all of this orientalia. I like it!

Angelic opening (as in Thierry Mugler) Thick. Dark. Chocolate. Lilac. (Without looking at the notes). Why tuberose? It ruins this. Go figure. Canaïca isn't a hit perfume, but it would suit a mature lady very well. Not just any lady but a mature & sparkling one who has an appetite for life!
