Aquarose

DISCLAIMER: Review based on sampler. SUMMARY: 8/10 Refined unisex musky rose scent. Nuclear strength opening. RAMBLING THOUGHTS: Have you ever got a fancy invitation, to a wedding or something, and the cardstock has a delightful, refined musky rose smell to it? That is exactly what the opening to this fragrance smells like... except nuclear. The strength of the opening to this fragrance is a little bonkers. It will linger in the air where you sprayed it for hours. Suprisingly, however, the sillage is more moderate. Performance overall is pretty solid. Once you get past the opening, it darkens a little and becomes a distinctly unisex fragrance. The musk starts to develop more, and some of the woods and citrus poke though, but it remains predominantly a rose fragrance. Rose fragrances seem to be quite devisive, but if you like rose fragrances this is a great addition for both men and women. For me, this fragrance fits a profile I have been chasing for a long time, and it might even have been my first 10/10 for that reason, but I had to deduct some points because this can sour a little in the dry down, at least in the heat. To be fair though, I do live in a climate with extreme heat, so others will undoubtedly have better luck... and it is only an occasional problem.

This is an absolutely lovely scent for those that enjoy rose scents and/or marine scents. Rose is a beautiful flower that can have many interpretations when translated to fragrance. Many of the rose perfumes I have smelled are incredibly sweet and candy-like, or serve as a way to showcase other notes. Here is something very different. Instead we get a photorealistic rose, accompanied by a watery backing. This is a PERFECT combination to allow the rose to take center stage and smell refreshingly realistic. I understand the comparison to Rose Saltifolia, both fragrances have a rose realism and both showcase beauty of rose first & foremost, while still evoking a sea-like quality. However the comparison ends there. Rose Saltifolia relies heavily on the salt note which makes the fragrance feel very dry, whereas Aquarose is thirst quenching by show casing the rose using "sea notes". If Rose Salitifolia is walking along the beach with sand blowing in your face, Aquarose is jumping straight into the ocean.

Smells amazing! And way too feminine for me to wear as a guy...

On paper this smells BEAUTIFUL. It reminds me of a Pearl. I was so enthralled with the smell, I planned on buying a bottle to wear to the Little Mermaid premier. You can’t convince me that, if Ariel were real, she wouldn’t smell like this. But then I tried it on and my body chemistry did not allow the perfume to translate the same way. The pearlescent effect in the scent completely went away. It smelled more like fancy soap. Still pretty but not what I was hoping for. I plan to explore more perfumes with sea notes and aquatic roses.

Rating doesn't do this composition justice from a male point of view. Beautifully composed aquatic rose, doesn't smell TOO unique but the quality and blend are superb. No "pickle" likeness to my nose whatsoever. Maybe they're referring to the very light zingyness but it's much too light of a zing for me to think anywhere outside of the notes the fragrance lists. Based off Gallagher Fragrances sample set including this.

The opening was very rosy and throughout it was predominantly rosy. I didn't really get the marine notes, maybe some of the citrus. It's pleasant but since I'm not a huge rose lover, it's one where I'd use the sample and not consider repurchasing.

I am not a big fan of rose fragrances. They can be cloying. GF's Aquarose isn't cloying, but it is a strong rose scent. I've worn it several times, and today all day, and I am am not really enjoying it. In addition to the aquatic note which isn't too bad, it has a sour greeness that I don't care for. It seems they used not just the rose flower, but the leaves and stems as well. At times it seems almost vegetal. It is clean but the musk and sandalwood are quite light in the dry down. I wish this fragrance had a bit less green-rose and just a touch more musk-sandalwood. But, as this fragrance stands, it is quite unisex for any person who likes a rose fragrance. While for some it might be a great scent, it isn't for me.

This review is based on the sample of Aquarose provided by Gallagher/Pearlesence as part of their discovery set. The opening is a powerful in your face rose, though something quite interesting happened during the dry down on paper. This is the first time I needed to double check the notes of a fragrance to make sure there wasn’t a pickle note included. I assume that’s something I’m picking up from their version of ambergris. I wasn’t willing to test it on my skin to find out.

Let me preface by saying I'm primarily not a rose fan at all, with the exception of a few scents with rose as a subtle note. This perfume smells like a soapy clean rose with a bit of lemon sourness (perhaps even lemon cleaner-esque) so it's not pleasant at all to my tastes. Thankfully, the enjoyment of perfume is very subjective so we can all find scents that are in our wheelhouse.

Pretty fragrance, but it's boring. Smells like Delina Exclusif, although the price tag is probably more affordable.

I'm generally ot a fan of rose scents, so it's a pass. Got sample of Aquarose in a discovery set...

This is a very interesting and unique rose perfume. There are no citrus, oud, amber or woods here. It is a beautiful rose with an increasingly present mineralic marine note. But there is no calone or seaweed here, just sea minerals. I love it. It is unisex leaning feminine and sillage is moderate. Awesome perfume- so rare to find something really new Edit: after letting this stand for about 6 months, the woody notes are much more prominent now. It is still interesting but I would say less unique. I like the wood though- it makes it more long-lasting. I wish the rose were stronger. There is a slightly dirty aspect to this however- like slightly bitter and dank which I am finding off putting.

Aquarose is the perfect name for this perfume. It opens very rosy, it smells like a rose oil to me, the perfume oil concentration in this fragrance must be quite high. It is an extrait de parfum, so that makes sense. I also smell fresh bergamot, and strong, bracing, aquatic notes. The rest of the perfume is just a duality of surging surf spray and sweet rose oil. It's not my kind of scent, as I don't always love strong aquatic fragrances, especially with the added sweetness of the rose, but if this is your jam, you're in luck - because this is a strong scent for summer and it will last a long time.

I received the Pearlescent discovery set in the mail today and I REALLY am into several of these samples. This one is surprising to me. I’m not the biggest rose fan but I like this. It’s a wet, ocean rose. It’s like smelling a fresh green rose by an ocean shore. I must be influenced by the origins of this house because I’m picturing myself back in Ireland walking along the rocky cliffs with rose bushes growing through the ruff. It’s slightly sweet, salty, and fresh with the tiniest sprinkle of citrus.

I purchased the samples from the perfumer and received them yesterday. I sprayed this morning. I have to admit I did not like the opening. Image of old, plastic dolls flashed in my mind. I washed it off and what was left was quite beautiful...reminiscent of a scent I’ve been chasing for years...Oasis by Myrurgia (Ramón Monegal perfumer). So I sprayed again and believe that at least to my nose and skin, the magic is in the dry down. :-)

To my nose, this is rosewater with a bit of salt and spice. Definitely a flatter, more savory rose than I’d like. It’s tolerable enough with my one spray, but I’m not feeling it overall. As always, appreciate the craftsmanship that go into it, just not for me.
