Baklava

I have to speak up as someone who is not into sweet gourmand fragrances and agree with Fragrauntie down below. Baklava was in a discovery kit I purchased last week and their various scent profiles have surprised me more than I expected. Baklava is not something overly sweet or cloying. It's far more nuanced. It does open with a warm, golden syrupiness that was reminiscent of a honey and flaky pastry, but it’s balanced and not juvenile. Seriously folks. Take a look at my profile shelf which leans heavy into the niche houses from Orto Parisi Cuoium to Amouage Purpose 50 to Min New York Chef's Table to Liquide Imaginaire Blanche Bete. On my skin, Baklava evolves into something oddly sophisticated like a memory of an indulgence rather than the indulgence itself. It doesn’t scream youth; it whispers nostalgia. And for someone like me, a middle aged bloke who thinks of himself as thoughtful with a taste for the unexpected, Baklava walks the line between playful gourmand and grown man refinement. As I said in a review I left for their Wicked Good fragrance, I can appreciate the craft behind it. I can also appreciate the longevity. I could still smell the fragrance the morning after which is 12+ hours later.

I’m not sure why this has such a low rating. It smells divine! No...it doesn’t smell at all like baklava but it does smell like a well blended honey & spices with a touch of floral and nuttiness. If you go into this knowing it doesn’t smell like baklava and take it for what this is, I think most people would enjoy it! It’s along the line of Tom ford noir pour femme to me but way less spicy and softer. They did a great job keeping the spiciness from being too masculine. It’s a beautiful fragrance. I couldn’t stop sniffing my arm!

When I initially sprayed Baklava, it brought to mind milk chocolate cocoa powder. A nuttiness and citrus edge developed, and it did remind me of working in a bakery years ago and stocking the honeyed drippy baklava. I sense the pistachio, but really haven't gotten a cherry feel on my skin. It develops into a nutty and velvetty elevated gourmand. This would be most lovely in cold weather, with its warmth and coziness. It's not straight foody, it certainly has a bit of sophistication.

The initial notes surprised me greatly; the scent seemed almost animalistic, perhaps it was the patchouli that created such an impression. However, it was very fleeting because after a while, I was enveloped in a beautiful, sweet gourmand fragrance. Very long-lasting with a fairly noticeable sillage. It's sweet like a dessert, but not in excess; just right to savor it.

I love this; unusual and took me by surprise, as I was not crazy about the opening, but I used one spray in my hair and in 20 min time, it showed me a different face, creamy, green pistachio, musky and some honeyed almonds; there is a bit of a roaring lion (animalic) vibe, but tame and super wearable; this is one of those loves that needs time; glad I gave it time.

I adore this scent. I am wearing it now in early spring and it is a nutty, honey, delicious gourmand that gets down brightness from the bergamot. It’s musky, gourmand, while playful and light.

So I received a sample of this fragrance not too long ago and i was very excited to smell it. I'm a lover of sweets and i absolutely love eating Baklava it is truly one of my top 10 pastries to eat so when i heard there was a fragrance out their with the name baklava and it was gourmand and youtubers and some people that gave reviews said it smelled like baklava i was excited and had to try. I was excited enough to not purchase a full bottle though but definitely the sample first to try it lol. So when i got it i sprayed it four times on my arm and commence to sniffing. Now i will be transparent with you......this does NOT smell like Baklava to me at all on my skin. When i sprayed it with the initial blast i immediately smelled citrus which made me a little confused even though it was in the notes lol i don't know i was expecting sweetness before anything or an immediate balava smell but no lol and then the smell had a bit of confusion after 3 minutes and i immediately was like oh no i hate this thing. I gave it ten minutes and revisit the smell and then a sweetness was in the picture, my nose was picking up the honey note predominantly. As it lingered longer on my skin i got the honey with backdrop of floral. after 8 hours i can still smell the sweetness of the honey on my skin and towards the end of the fragrance cycle it cooled down to a vanilla note. I did not pick up any nutty notes or cherry or patchouli just mainly honey. Now in pearlescent parfums defense i heard it took after the Greek rendition of Baklava which i have never in my life tasted nor smelled, I have always indulged in Middles Eastern and Turkish Baklava so if your expecting it to smell similar which uses syrup or rosewater from the Middle East or turkey you will be highly disappointed. Maybe it smells like greek baklava to some people because actual honey is an overpowering smell so that's where some greek baklava eaters might make a comparison. I don't know what i was expecting because i knew beforehand it had honey in it but i wasn't sure what to expect maybe something nutty because of almond and pistachio in the notes and a slight honey smell but that honey was dominant lol. All in all i will honestly say after i got over the name of the fragrance and my EXPECTATIONS i realized it was actually a beautiful scent and i would definitely recommend it to someone it is very pleasant and amazing to smell, especially if you're looking for a honey fragrance. Now to me you can wear this fragrance for all seasons but i would say if you live in a hot state like arizona or a climate with high heat temp thats similar it will not be the best for those areas unless you spray lightly but in the northeast you may get away with it. this fragrance is very unisex in my opinion not leaning more male or more female. Longevity is immaculate lasted on my skin OVER 12 hours now the sillage i actually worn it around my mom and i only sprayed it on my arms 4 times with no other fragrance on me. she is an old woman from the caribbean so she said to me with one of those old phrases from way back when "you smell like a french whore" which indicated to me that it was strong smelling and it had a strong sillage she only says that to me when my fragrance are really strong. so 4 sprays go a long way. My conclusion is this scent is not what i expected but it is very wonderful to smell maybe on your skin it may be subjective but lower your expectations and maybe you will get a baklava surprise on your skin or maybe a good honey scent or something extraordinary but i do approve this one and i hope you enjoy it as well.

I'm not really sure why this has such a low rating (in the 2 range?!) It doesn't smell that polarizing to me, although it is not a straight forward gourmand. Baklava opens up quite medicinal, like a spiced syrup that you might pour over your Middle Eastern sweets, cardamom heavy, maybe even clove. Could be medicinal cherry? (Nicole2878 is right, definitely reminiscent of Carmex in the opening XD) I smell the sweet patchouli and salty nuttiness as well, giving an effect similar to Angel Muse. The most prominent note on my skin is the honey. Opens up with distinct neroli/orange blossom honey, and dries sweeter and thicker and stickier all the while. Like the syrup on your fingers and lips as you eat baklava - it gets everywhere! It's a beautiful honey, but it is a bit animalic, so I would probably not buy a bottle as straight honey can sometimes read as urine on my skin, and I don't want to put off other people. But I really like that honey drydown. It stays on my skin quite a while. I don't immediately picture baklava when I smell this (which is fine) but all the elements ARE there: nuts, sweet, sticky, syrupy honey, buttery dough, spice, and some slight incense for good measure. Give it a try if you like gourmands that are not straight cupcake. I think it's unique.

Review from a large decant sent my S.A. At first sniff, I didn't like it at all. There was something weird and very bitter about the nuttiness (the pistachio?) and the sweetness was a mixed between honey and sugar that made it somewhat cloying. It really was a weird experience: bitter, nutty and almost cloyingly sweet. After 5 or 10 minutes I was shocked. Wafts of an amazing scent went to my nose and I didn't knew where they came from (I was testing another fragrance on my right arm), but it was Baklava! (left arm). It morphed into this beautiful nutty-honey fragrance, so pleasant and not at all cloying. It doesn't smell at all like Baklava (the real thing) BUT if you're patient enough (just around 10 minutes) it pays off. Really nice, sweet and middle eastern-ish scent. Be patient and don't judge Baklava at first sniff. A strong like to this one.

I got this in one of the sample packs I bought. I absolutely loved this fragrance after the first spray. It smelled like honey, baklava, and citrus, just beautiful. After a few min it started to smell very powdery, floral, and slightly aldehydic like fabric softner. After 15min it remained very floral with a hint of sweet pastry in the background. It's very pretty, but I dont enjoy smelling of powdery flowers. I'm definitely a gourmand girly. The gourmand notes did come to the forefront of the fragrance after a while, which I love. It's still more floral than I'd really like, but overall, it's a beautifully done fragrance. One thing about this brand is, their fragrances are very well blended and very high quality. I could see this scent being very popular and mass appealing.

I do not enjoy the first few seconds after spraying. Then, the magic happens. It becomes sweeter, nuttier, more floral, as if they baked the baklava with neroli-infused water (if that's a thing...not sure, I've had rose/rosewater, lavender, and jasmine, but I don't believe I've eaten/drunk anything with orange blossom or neroli). I love cardamom, and I know it is often used in baklava, and I could swear I smell it in here, but it is not listed in the notes, not here, nor on the Gallagher website. I'm sad this has such a low rating. It's really quite nice once it develops on the skin, and very unique

On me this is a cherry gourmand with complex supporting notes of honey, nuts, citrus, and cake. The florals and patchouli are subtle, and they keep this fragrance from smelling like actual food. I think this is an outstanding gourmand fragrance with quality ingredients. There is nothing artificial or cheap about this one, and it’s sweet without being too sweet. I swear there is an olive oil note in here, too. To me there is a slight Middle Eastern vibe, like a Middle Eastern dessert. It’s a unisex fragrance to my nose. Highly recommended for cooler weather.

Smells like the title says. There is a nuttiness in it, that isn’t mentioned in notes but is present. I also get a sorta smokiness,like a sweet smoke. Probably a mix of notes but it’s pleasant. I like this but not an all the time wear mainly cold weather and around holidays and such. I’ll give it a 6/10

Fragrantie and BenGilliard's reviews are pretty spot on. This is a well-done pastry/bakery scent. Hard to wear. But, I think it would be greatly improved with a prominent coffee or a tobacco note.

I like it, but it is straight up a horse stable on a sunny day for me. A dusty horse in the summer heat. Sweet, but very animalic. Pleasant, but I don't know how wearable.

Honey and orange blossom, -smells like Honeysuckle. I don't mind it. Quite "perfumey" smelling but unique and pretty.

I bought a sample from their website. This has a cloying bitterness at the first spray. Maybe, that's the "almond." I don't get any of the decadent sweetness I was expecting. It feels more like "baking spices" than it does "a sugary, sweet dessert"; after all, fundamentally, isn't that what "Baklava" is? It's probably the sweetest, intensely SUGAR dessert. After a while, I get the "honey," very definitely. There's also a definite "bready" quality to the drydown, which - I suppose - reflects the pastry of a Baklava. I rated this "Ok." I was expecting a decadent dessert, just as I discovered with Tom Ford Noir Extreme -- a Neroli, vanillic bomb. It's nothing of the sort. It's sort of bitter, not sugary at all, and I only get "cherry" in the sense that cherry SKIN can smell sort of bitter. Not at all what I expected. I'll pass. It's sad, really, because I expected to be excited.

Pistachio, almond, baklava, honey. That’s all I get from this. Baklava comes across as very doughy and buttery. Unisex but masculine leaning. It’s a good fall into winter scent great for night time. It’s very food smelling-nuts, butter and honey. If you enjoy smelling like food items you’ll likely enjoy this. I only enjoy the super sweet honey dry down. Not bad, not good. I’m neutral on Baklava. I was expecting a very sweet, delicious fragrance, but this is more nutty than anything. The opening is sharp, strong and bitter. It reminds me of the Sol de Janeiro body mists. Performance is average. Sillage is arms length quickly settling into a skin scent. Longevity is 5-7 hours. At $175 for 60ml this is overpriced imo. I think the neroli just ends up clashing with all the other notes. It's not terrible but I can't see myself ever wearing this. I wanted it to be more like actual baklava but it's just...not.
