Bergamust Noir

This is the definition of an artistic niche fragrance. it takes the exact DNA of the very wearable Bergamust, a very bright, clean, bergamot/clean musk based scent, and challenges it with a huge dose of dark, dirty smoke. The result is far from harmonious: it is a clash of clean and dirty, light and dark, harsh and smooth, fresh and heavy. The battleground on your skin will be, indeed, predominately smokey to your nose, but with a whiff of smoke there also exists the nostril cooling effect of the bergamot, or the saltiness of the ambroxan, or soapiness of the orange blossom. Every whiff is a distraught contrast, and its really cool. Wearable? Not really. Unique? Hell yes. Artistic? Yes. Good for a niche lover that enjoys smoke or juxtaposition? Yes. Compliments? Not unless you're with another frag-head, but if you're wearing this you probably know that. Buy? Yes, given it is available and you like collecting. Blind buy? No. Overall: 9/10 for an artistic frag. 4/10 for a crowd pleasing frag. PS. I also believe this leans masculine.

Bergamust meets the smoke from Peaches and campfires with Birch to great effect. Perfect balance of the notes.

Bergamust Noir is the latest, limited edition (50 bottles only) release from this house of Texas now in business for about a year. I purchased a sample set July 2016 before any of the fragrances were on Fragrantica or Basenotes, and so this is my first feedback on a fragrance. The original Bergamust is a strong-performing freshie, well-liked, likely the most beloved of Daniel Gallagher's original collection (my personal favorite was Carpe Cafe). Bergamust Noir, then, conjures a mixture of the original Bergamust mixed with darker elements. In trying to achieve this balance, I believe Daniel Gallagher mostly succeeds in Bergamust Noir, as the dominant blend I get is between the orange blossom and tangy/smoky vibe. I definitely like it but I'm not sure it's full bottle worthy, though I can imagine this being quite popular for men and women alike. A nod to Bergamust while certainly being more of a cold weather fragrance, at least on my skin. 7 out of 10

Reminds of Irish Spring Aloe soap and a laundromat...

Had to scrub this one off pretty quickly, has a very potent "burnt rubber" smell to it that is not pleasant to my nose in the slightest. There is something about the way this smells that reminds me a lot of Profumum Fumidus. It is similar to Fumidus because it has a very pungent scent that evokes an odd smell of something burning (like you had thrown plastic or styrofoam into a fire kind of burnt smell... not like the smell of burning pine or other wood). It's the same kind of smokey smell that when you smell it around a campfire, you start asking if somebody threw something weird into the fire that they probably shouldn't have.

I was REALLY looking forward to sampling this knowing only 50 bottles were made but I am deeply disappointed. To my nose it doesn’t really change or develop, I’ve had it on for about 3-4 hours and it’s not really different from the start (which is decent longevity if you like it). I don’t HATE it but u don’t get ~noir~ at all nor do I smell any smoke. To me it’s a strong, one note hit of clean dry petitgrain that I’d be most likely to wear in the day time or the summer. And I was shocked that petitgrain wasn’t listed in the notes. Maybe bergamot + ocean + smoke = petitgrain? After trying to recall what this reminded me of that I already had, I realized it smells just like Ellis Brooklyn’s Fable if you were to subtract Fable’s floral notes. Which, I like Fable and own a full bottle and I currently have it and Bergamust Noir each on either wrist, and while Fable’s opening is much more femme and floral, after a few hours they’re virtually indistinguishable on my skin. Except that the BN is much stronger still by this point. Really wanted to love this one enough to purchase but imho for the price point I’d rather just pour on the Fable. EDIT: My partner tried this today and it smells incredibly different on him and really wonderful tbh. I can REALLY smell the smoke on him that I couldn’t smell at all on me. And even the jasmine comes out right in the top immediately after misting on. So yeah YMMV!

I absolutely love Bergamust so I was excited when there was going to be a Noir version. I purchased a full bottle and I could not be more disappointed. It completely ruins Bergamust. It is just an overwhelming atrocious foul smoke smell. It is like someone sat around a heavy smoke campfire for a week and got all hot and sweaty and extremely smokey. This just is not pleasant in any way, shape, or form. This purchase is one of my largest regrets.

I get zero smoke. Nice scent, reminds me a bit of Cologne Royal by MCD, with a hint of watermelon accord
