Bergamust

Wow! I actually love this scent so much that I finally joined Fragrantica to start my reviews with it. I can't believe how beautiful this composition is. I almost melted the first time I smelled it. Bergamust is definitely the standout fragrance in the sample pack I ordered from Mr Gallagher and a standout fragrance in general. I actually just ordered a full bottle. It's that good! What does it smell like? To my nose, it smells EXACTLY like a summer beach vacation. It's so “real” smelling that it is unbelievable. I smell sunscreen. I smell the salty ocean mist in the air. I smell the flowers along the side of the path down to the beach. I smell the palm trees off in the distance. I think I even smell the vegetation growing on the sand dunes. Absolutely fantastic smelling scent. How's the performance? I used only 3 sprays from the sample and I could smell it well into the evening and even when I awoke the next day. And it's very cold here in NJ right now. Imagine when it's warm outside? Suffice to say, I have zero complaints about performance. I've been on a fragrance kick lately sampling everything from Amouage to Imaginary Authors to By Killian and I have to say this is niche quality through and through. One of the first scents to truly blow me away since Creed Aventus (still my signature scent). Other scents I've loved lately are Amouage's Beach Hut and Lyric Man and Parfums Vintage's inspirations of Baccarat Rouge 540 (Sunset In Heaven) and Straight To Heaven By Killian (Bois De Mystere). I really dig John Varvatos Artisan as well which this sort of reminds me of. But where Artisan is more of a clean clothes kind of scent, this is more of an all encompassing summer scent. Absolute perfection in a bottle! EDIT: The sprayer on the bottle I received was faulty but the company actually sent out a new bottle. Really great customer support. Highly recommend this house!

Update Below! I picked up some samples from Gallagher Fragrances. I will be reviewing the rest I have as I wear them. Bergamust is the first one I chose to wear, I live in MD so right now we are having some really hot weather. Bergamust in my opinion is a perfect warm weather summer scent. It is just fresh, clean and crisp. This scent opens to a strong bergamont scent somewhat like Mugler Cologne but still different enough to notice that they are not the same. I enjoy the smell of this one, when it dies down the projection is not a beast like some other colognes I have worn but I think it being a summer scent you don't want something that is to strong with the heat. I wore this through my workout and still could smell it about a foot away from my arm. Now about 3 hours later I would say it has dried down to a nice skin scent that can still be smelled if someone got into close quarters or if I walked by them or even in an elevator together. My only complaint would be the longevity I think it will probably last around 5 to 6 hours max on my skin. That isn't bad but I know some people who will want and expect more. Update: Bergamust will now forever be a cologne I own, I wore this while proposing to my now Fiancee, as she loved the scent and wanted me to wear it out to our dinner. It really is a great scent and fit the occasion while walking through the mountains next to the river after our dinner! While walking she even asked me again what it was called because she could still smell it hours after I put it on. Great Scent, just picked up a full bottle, it is a great addition to any collection! I would suggest this cologne for anyone who wants a different clean fresh crisp scent. 2 thumbs way up for Bergamust! I only recently stumbled across this little-known gem in a discussion about the best citrus fragrances and the usual suspects were all mentioned - Xerjoff Nio and 1861 Renaissance, Le Labo Bergamot 22, Frapin L'humaniste, Creed Jardin D'Amalfi and Pure White Cologne, etc... and Gallagher Fragrances Bergamust. Fresh citrus scents are one of my favorite genres, and Bergamust had great feedback from the few reviews I could find, the notes looked great and the price point is excellent so I went ahead and bought a bottle blind. Daniel Gallagher was a pleasure to deal with and he threw in a couple extra samples as well. Long story short, I just got my bottle a few days ago and Bergamust has every right to be mentioned among the best of the best citrus scents! The notes breakdown is very accurate and it all comes across as very bright, juicy, realistic bergamot with a surprising uniqueness to it from the aquatic sea notes mixed perfectly with the cedar and orange blossom, but more interestingly the ambroxan, light iso e super and white amber musk base notes. The result is quite unique for a citrus scent with great performance - likely anchored by the ambroxan, light iso e super and semi-sweet white amber musk. So far I've gotten extremely positive feedback from my wife and even co-workers. If I had to compare it to something, it most reminds me of a bergamot-based, very citrusy Aventus. Not in smell but overall "vibe" of the fragrance. I love it. Absolutely worth a try.

I was given a very generous sample of Bergamust last time I ordered with Gallagher, and I have now opted to buy a full bottle. Bergamust is a very fresh, clean fragrance, something I can't really see anyone objecting to. It opens with a blast of very smooth bergamot along with something that kind of resembles a leathery, sort of "new car" smell that's very pleasant. As it dries, the ambroxan and musks really start to kick in and you wind up with this really nice fresh, slightly sweet, slightly woody, muskiness. To my nose, it almost resembles a little bit of a cross between Aventus and Sauvage, but without the tartness or peppery notes. The stuff is just smooth as silk. Performance wise, it's hard to beat. A few sprays will last you all day easily, in fact I sometimes will get whiffs the next morning. Easy 12 hours+ longevity. It's also quite potent. A few sprays will definitely get you noticed. I went to visit my mother the other day and I was in the car with her, she was wearing a pretty heavy perfume herself, and this stuff just cut right through it. It's a great fragrance at a very fair price, and all of my experiences in dealing with Gallagher have been exemplary. I'm gonna give Bergamust a 9.5. Very pleasant, fresh, versatile fragrance with incredible performance and a great value. I'd honestly rather wear it than some offerings from Creed or Amouage.

This is a great summer scent that leaves you smelling incredibly fresh and clean; It makes me feel like I've just stepped out of the shower. It opens with a bright sparkling bergamot note that is complemented by fresh orange blossom which is carried by a sea breeze. As it dries down musk and cedar become more noticeable. It lasts for about 6-7 hours on my skin, and it has very good projection as well. It is a must try. Overall: 8.5/10

a very dry bergamot/neroli mix with a touch of vetiver tonality, a hint of sweetness, an aquatic feel without being salty or watery, just breezy and fresh, little plastic note at times, musk. Very lovely summer aquatic that I am wearing in the fall.

Probably the best from his 2016 collection, fresh aromatic aquatics are not known for Their performance, this one checks off the boxes. Great longevity and projections...it's even better outdoors. Buy this one and won't be disappointed.

This is by far my favorite fragrance. The scent just grabs me and won’t let go!

I recently rested Wood Sage & Sea Salt, and whatever is responsible for the saltiness and marine notes in both of these is something that my skin seems to amplify...or maybe I'm sensitive to. To me, both of these fragrances are unapologetically salty, and brusque in their cold (neither is warm in the least, I think this is a decidedly cool fragrance) maritime air notes. The difference is, that the WS&SS is sweet, with a puppy's strength, and that this is a large, salty, sandy sea dog of a fragrance! Before it dries down I'm honestly taken aback by this and feel nearly overwhelmed. I've never experienced, or anticipated a citrus fragrance to have so much strength! It bears a niche price tag, but it is SO worth it. The longevity is quite frankly, baffling. The bergamot is very, very realistic and bitter, I nearly dislike the opening because it's unsweetened and smells like citrus peel tastes. It is well constructed though, and I think it's a display of realism. As it's far along in it's drydown now, it has settled into a slightly masculine (I don't care, wear whatever you want regardless of gender), neroli bomb with a hefty helping of ambroxan. I will be clear, Iso E Super is something I'm somewhat anosmic to, so I refrain from commenting on that or voting on it. Maybe if I could detect it better this might feel a little more "rounded out". Overall this is impressive, although I don't love it. Maybe I'm a wuss with neroli, but I think I'd like a little more sweetness in here. However, facets of this are insanely realistic, and I agree with nickyt99 below me, there *is* something totally addictive about this. It's compelling me to compulsively smell it - salty, citrusy bitterness with neroli. It doesn't feel summery at all to me, it's quite an odd one. If anything, it's like a chilly seascape in spring, as there's a true freshness to this as well.

I purchased the Gallagher Fragrances Core Series Discovery Set for $32 after shipping. It was supposed to contain 7 2.5 mL samples and it actually came with 9. There were the 7 from the Core Series, plus Tobacco Silk and Tulip Silk. I think the Gallager Fragrances Discovery Sets are priced very well and if more houses had such reasonable discovery sets, I would be able to sample many more niche/indie houses. This reminds me of some niche fresh fragrance, I can't quite remember which one. It may be Diptyque L'eau de Neroli or a Frederic Malle, either Bigrade Concentree or Cologne Indelibile. (If I figure out what I'm thinking of, I will edit this review.) Whatever it reminds me of, I like Bergamust. It smells "niche" and I feel it leans more feminine than masculine, although I think most men would have no problem pulling this off. As far as notes, I get mostly bergamot, orange blossom, and musk. This stays closer to the skin, but the testing I've done so far has shown it has decent longevity on my skin.

Bergamust is probably the most popular offering of Gallagher Fragrances, and it's an interesting take on a freshie concept that deviates significantly from the normal experience, mainly since the bright, citrus opening is relatively limited and gives way to a dry down that's more mixed. Specifically, the fragrance opens with bergamot and then orange blossom is added in with cedar, ambroxan, iso super E, and musk. The cedar, ambroxan, iso super E, and musk all sort of blend together and begin to first overtake the brightness of the bergamot. In this respect, it's distinct from much of what's out there on the market that stays relatively bright and citrus-dominant in the dry down. Not quite for me, but a great concept as far as taking the top out rather early and providing a different sort of freshie experience. 7 out of 10

I’m wearing Bergamust on a cold Winter day, out of season for this warm weather citrus blend. Normally I would not form judgements because in the past I’ve made incorrect assessments of perfumes when I wear them out of season. But Gallagher fragrances is running a special discount and I want to place an order. So here I am. That said, this is a very nice bergamot forward scent. I love the opening, but the drydown leans too heavily on ambroxan (or iso e) and a sour musk. At least that’s what I think is happening. Of course, I’m wondering if this would change in warm weather so Bergamust will be retested in sunnier weather. For now it’s not in my cart, which is probably a good thing since I already have two others from this brand that I do love.

A dry, fresh citrus focused scent. Not too sharp. The citrus has been softened around the edges by musk and cashmera. A soft, swirling freshness. I don't particularly get much aquatic. I guess a little ozone feeling. The top notes fade quite fast and then the musk and cashmera are more to the fore. I'm not so keen on this stage. A lovely scent for hot sticky days. It's an interesting alterative to other citrus and eau fraiche scents. It lasts a few hours as a skin scent. A very unisex scent.

Nice, fresh, clean scent. I am definitely picking up the Bergamont, clean musk, orange blossom, maybe a little Cedar. It reminds me a lot of summer line drying laundry. It’s one of the few fragrances that does orange blossom well. It’s not too overpowering and is well blended with the other notes. This is a solid like, but not a love. This is definitely a unisex fragrance, but I believe it leans a little more feminine.

Women love this and will on you. It's very soft, pretty, reminded someone of Alien ( I guess?, never smelled it ) For me, as a guy, it's definitely a nice, enjoyable one that is ideal for the summertime...daytime summer to be exact. It is floral but, not so much that it would be extremely feminine. It's very well balanced. And of course, the Bergamot is King. Worth a try for sure...

If you like Atelier scents such as Grand Neroli,Orange Sanguine etcc.. then you will absolutely love this! Longevity is twice that of the Atelier scents albeit Gallagher is pricier. 2 notes that are a bit difficult to like on my skin are orange blossom and musk. At times this smells fresh and clean and other very dirty and animalic.

I really like this as far as a scent...it is youthful, fresh, invigorating, cheerful, juicy...the opposite of what I look for in a perfume for myself...LOL. For a young adult man, this would be great...it seems to last a long while and gives off a positive masculine vibe.

Another sample acquired from a Fragrantica giveaway thanks to the lovely Mr. Gallagher. Opens with a burst of bergamot and a bit of orange flower, with the musk scent (and a pinch of cedar) becoming more prominent in the dry-down.

Bright and fresh. Blind buy safe. Compliment monster and projection and longevity are well worth a full bottle. After 10 hours projection is still there and got a compliment after hour 11.

An aquatic soapy orange blossom scent. I usually hate aquatic fragrances, but I like this one. Lasts and projects for a really decent amount of time.

When i bought Amongst Waves, i was also given a free sample of this. It is a damn nice fragrance and has a nice masculine citrus feel and it only took me a few seconds to realize what it reminded me of- John Varvatos Artisan Black. I find striking similarities. I was even contemplating getting a bottle of this too but the performance, on my skin at least, was way below average. It seems most people have better performance with this one but fortunately for my wallet, it didn't jump off my skin like i was hoping. Very nice though!

Upon initial spray, I get a salty blast of cedar with a bit of bergamot. Honestly, it seemed a bit much, but after a few minutes calm down and the orange blossom becomes much more prevalent. It's nice, but not for me and doesn't seem particularly interesting.

Pretty sure I've reviewed before. But opening smells like new shoes and/or walking into a shoe store such as shoe carnival. I liked it alot until I wore it. It's way too musky and fem for me. Screams female in my opinion. It's good but better on a female.

I love bergamot so I thought I would love this one for sure. But on the other hand I LOATHE neroli. ANd that is what I smelled with the bergamot when I sprayed this. I had to scrub it but if those two are your thing you will love this.

Literally disgusting. It smells like a dirty shirt, with a citrus cologne sprayed on it,that has been worn for way too many days in a row, after a rigorous work out. Extremely funky and animalic. Idk if I'm the only one

Smells fresh with a light orange floral sweetness. Soft and pretty.

I’m going to have to give this one an all-day test. So far, I’ve been wearing a generous back-of-hand spray for about an hour I bought it for the purported strong bergamot opening. In actuality, I got nearly no bergamot. It went straight to the middle notes for me, with the cedar pretty much taking over. I’m hoping warmer weather will give a different, more citrusy opening. Cedar isn’t my favorite note, especially as assertive as this one is. As the fragrance develops, I’m beginning to pick up the base notes, which is much, much better. The cedar is going away, thank goodness. I’m going to try to remember to post an update when the weather warms up a bit. Update: I gave up trying to like this and put my brand new bottle up for sale. I feel better. I think Gallagher Fragrances and I just don't get along. I sold their Limited Edition Vanilla Silk yesterday and I'm thinking about selling Amongst Waves, although I like it better than the other two. Sorry, Gallagher....you're just not my cup of tea.

I find this really refreshing, uplifting, and immensely attractive. This is one of the best aquatic fragrances I’ve ever encountered. It’s a beautiful orange blossom, sunshine fresh with just a hint of salty sea notes. It’s what Light Blue aspired to be but didn’t quite get there. There’s lots of ambroxan that really pushes the fragrance off the skin to project. It has some gorgeous clean cedar. It’s very natural smelling and breezy. If you’re a man an love fresh, breezy, summertime/spring, citrus- musk’s then I’d just buy it. If you love neroli, orange blossom summer scents this is one of the safest blind buys I can imagine. If my man was wearing this I’d just bury my face in his neck all day. It has very decent projection and longevity for a freshie. It leans masculine and reminds me a lot of Eau De Magnolia Fredric Malle. Beautiful.

I'm going full Gall(review 1/8). This is a fragrance perfect for espadrilles, chino pants and white t-shirts. Bergamusk is doubtless and 2nd to none in the 1st place. It's an accomplishment even if its intent is not to compete. With the entire pacific ocean seemingly on your arm, how can you lose? This is not your little brother's aquatic fragrance. You wont find a human being in your city or state with this smell unless you're Daniel Gallagher himself. Aromatics aren't usually known for their longevity but what keeps this strong and sturdy are the clean linen-like white florals. The orange blossom note has the spirit of Neroli Portofino and Dilettante. When you swim in the Bergamusk, there are no lifeguards. It's very possible that you could drown in this stuff.

This is a case where the notes aren’t always what scent I’ll get . I do get a strong Bergamot-Cedar almost as if I were cutting the citrus on a cedar table . Interestingly though as it starts to dry down 1-2 hours in I start to get a strong resemblance to Alfred Dunhill Century. I get a tart almost greenish accord that I associated with the Cypriol in Century that is not listed here . I have never smelled a bergamot from fruit or oil but it is plenty of my fragrances so I feel I know the scent . Yet the only notes shared with Century is Begamot . I’d be really interested to hear what others much more experienced than I think about that ?

Easily one of my top 5 fragrances. Definitely has that “niche” take on it with the quality and smell you get from Tom Ford, Chanel, and Creed. I realize TF and Chanel aren’t niche but quality, yes. A citrus take with some anamalic musk and flowers. Divine and a fragrance nobody else will be wearing when in public. Lasts throughout the day and easily one of my longest lasting fragrances. Looking forward to trying Fineapple. Amongst waves wasn’t my forte, but I think Fineapple will be my next purchase and excited to try it. Vanilla silk, another one on the radar for winter. A stand-alone fragrance or great for layering.

Very beautiful fragrance with a dominant note of freshly cut bergamot along with neroli that dries down into a sweeter bergamot with some amber in the background. It's very fresh and has a slight aquatic ambience to it. It reminds me oddly of Tom Ford Neroli Portofino/4711 Eau de Cologne and also Le Labo's Bergamot 22, though I think that this is probably better than both of them. Sillage is moderate while longevity on my skin is also moderate at about 4 hours (though I wore this duting a really hot day, so longevity is probably better in cooler weather). 4/5

So immediately smelling this it reminded me of something I had smelled before. Within a few minutes it came to me just as clear as crystal years ago when sampling many niche fragrances I was intrigued by an offering from Bond No. 9,it was Eau de New York! Bergamust and EDNY are leaves from the same tree. They have some differences in structure but the smiliarities are easily identifiable. Definitely give this one a try! Smells great and lasts all day long. Perfect I would say for Spring Summer and Fall.

Make no mistake, there's more than just bergamot in this beautiful composition. As it dries down it becomes more coastal, breezy, and floral. The sea notes are exceptional and I can't help but appreciate the overall silky and smooth depth. It's very similar to Osaito, but not as creamy, instead Bergamust feels more airy a bit more transparaent. I'd love to own both, as this one is better suited for hot summer days while Osaito works best during hot summer nights.

I got this scent and others as samples. I really enjoy this fragrance. Its refreshing, light, and perfect for spring summer weather. I am waiting for the 30 ml bottles to come out. I am loving 3 fragrances from this house already and I think are all full bottle worthy. The longevity is great and there is something unique about the fragrances in this house that sets them apart.

This smells exactly like a bar of neroli soap. The smell is so intense that it last for a whole day. I don't get any other note beside soap and a bitterness undertone that somehow makes it quite interesting. Is it special? No. Does it smell good? Yeah. And it also lasts. Can't wait to try this in the heat.

Bergamust is a wonderful scent from beginning to end. It is very long lasting. The fragrance is clean fresh and it reminds me so much of an oil a person I knew use to wear but I never knew the name of it. Bergamust is what I wear for Spring and Summer.

Orange blossoms and ocean breeze. It's citrucy with ocean breeze. No sea foam, no sour or bitter sea notes, just a brilliant citrus with musk. It is simple and quite good.

giving clean summer energy but with a niche twist 🌊 like super fresh bergamot at the start, then it gets kinda musky and slightly woody.

Great juice..the overall performance is outstanding considering it is a summer fragrance which usually are pretty fleeting.

Summer banger. My favorite from this house.
