Purple Powder

There is something really satisfying about Gallagher perfumes to my olfactory senses. This is going to be a vague review, because as others have said, Purple Powder is a perfume that smells of a whole, not of parts. It does, indeed smell purple. It's warm, and rich, and deep, comforting. Purple Powder is reminiscent of 80s powerhouse Poison in its texture and feel, but not in its composition or notes. It's not as sweet, overbearing, or abrasive. My favorite aunt wore Poison for as long as I can remember, and I have wonderful memories of her. This perfume feels like a relative, maybe several times removed, gender less clear. I sprayed Purple Powder on the thoughtful card enclosed with my sample a couple of days ago. I keep getting pleasurable wafts of it, and it makes me smile. On my skin, it's very similar to the card, and then it gets warmer and melds in. To be honest, I'm over cinnamon, but it's used here with such a light hand that it lends itself to just a bit of warmth. Does the note list make sense? Absolutely. Would I have been able to pick any of them out without it? Perhaps benzoin, maybe styrax. Kudos to Gallagher for yet another unique and compelling composition.

Sampling Gallagher Fragrances Purple Powder, the latest release from this house under its main brand name, a provocative and effective name as it’s a floral, yet dark, spicy, and sweet blend, consisting of main notes of yellow mandarin, black and pink pepper, iris powder, cedarwood, benzoin, and toasted cinnamon. It’s a little powdery but leans more so sweet with a bit of a spun sugar vibe, yet it refrains from being too sweet. It’s velvety smooth and refined throughout, and has just a touch of freshness (via the flowers and cedar) to keep things from being too heavy. It’s instantly one of my favorites of the house, a creative blend that delivers a bit of an elixir, something of fantasy, yet clearly rooted in an interesting ensemble of notes that makes it seem like the unique sum of its parts, with no notes really overshadowing the others. Like most of the line, Purple Powder is priced at $125 for 50ml and is EDP concentration. I think the value is very high and, as with most of the line’s fragrances, it performs very well. For now it’s sold only on the house site but I believe it will be available at Perfumology like the rest of the house’s offerings. 8 out of 10

This is really nice. I sometimes find Gallagher fragrances challenging (I’m looking at you O’Fraiche), so I was a bit nervous about blind buying, but I’m glad I did. The name says it all—powdery, purple...really lovely. It’s soft but still has body. Definitely unisex. It’s a winner for me.

Sexy, potent, unique, addictive, statement-making beast! You MUST have an open mind going into a Gallagher frag for the first time. This is a FANTASTIC fragrance. Spicy-sweet cinnamon with resinous-vanilla woods

I'm starting to feel like Gallagher Fragrances is a one trick pony. Once again, Purple Powder has that Rose All Dae DNA with different notes added to it. Many of his new releases have smelled similar, especially within the Pearlescent collection. Wish we'd see them get out of that comfort zone.

This is cinnamon, citrus and powder. I get it. “Powder” the name, yeah yeah. Zero sweetness, which is fine, but the “reminds me of fragrances...” do not even remotely resemble this. After 30 mins I get a wheaty, dry cereal vibe. Not a Fan Edit - when I go back and actually see the notes this makes more sense. For some strange reason I was expecting something like Aomassai by PierreG. Still not a fan.

Quite literally it makes me nauseous.

For some reason, I smell a spicy plum jam on the exhale, after which the fruit fades. Furthermore, a well-mixed "cinnamon" spiciness dominates.
