Vanilla Silk

Gallagher Fragrances Vanilla Silk is a simple exploration of vanilla and how it can be mixed with woods effectively. As the other reviewer points out, it smells a bit like vanilla mixed with musk and guaiac wood, soft and delicate relative to the vanilla but still providing some grounded woodiness. Vanilla Silk's non-vanilla elements can be a little difficult to pin down, but they're not really cedar or incense (that would remind me of L'Occitane Eau Des Baux) nor a more complex offering (like Le Labo Vanille 44, which is also exorbitantly expensive). The guaiac characterization really hits the heart of it---a sweet, soft wood, and it blends very well with the vanilla, which isn't a deep bourbon vanilla but rather a more floral vanilla that pairs with the wood in a year-round-friendly fashion. The pricing in the Silk series is a little lower than the main catalog of Gallagher perfumes, so at $100 for 100ml, Vanilla Silk is reasonable to acquire. Performance is very good, better than average a moderately-priced EDP. This is likely my single favorite offering from the Gallagher house thus far. Very well done. 8 out of 10

12/2021 version: Very similar to by the fireplace but a lot smoother, a lot more vanilla added and well blended. I own both and I like Gallagher’s version more. The vanilla comes through more and much quicker, although this is still very much a smoky woody vanilla. If you thought by the fireplace was too harsh on the burnt smoky wood in the opening or wish the vanilla showed up more, get Vanilla Silk instead! I have both and love both. Undecided if I’ll declutter by the fireplace because I do like Vanilla Silk more.

Very much like By The Fireplace, only much better performance. The composition is quite simple - rich, spicy vanilla and toasted marshmallow. I feel vanilla absolu, some rich resins/spices, maybe even amber/tonka, and some sweet like smoke, it is not smokey, but just like fire toasted marshmallow. I wish it was a tad more complex/richer, but as I have been anyways wanting a FS of By The Fireplace, I will probably opt for Vanilla Silk, as it has superb staying power and overall is stronger.

Not to be too reductive, but it’s as if you put MMM’s BTF x RC’s Sultán = Vanilla Silk ....together and this was their baby...dry dusty, chalky vanilla...did I say Smokey and Dusty?? Rt here ⬇️. Longevity is ridic...days maybe if you overspray, tread lightly here, a little goes a long way. Not just FB worthy but an immediate backup is almost mandatory! Instant love, this was a well researched blind buy, so happy!! 😁 🤍 Marshmallowy vanillas are more my favorites than boozey vanillas, this is nice and smells really good 👍🏽 . Performance is outstanding.

A simple, very white, dry, slate-like chalky vanilla, strong then milder, linear, lasts a moderate amount of time, not sweet. Enjoyable.

Vanilla Silk?? More like Vanilla Smoke, this is primarily woods-y and smoke-y. Yes, the vanilla is there, of course but it’s more of a toasted marshmallow vanilla, burnt to a crisp. In my opinion it’s a meh kind of perfume. It’s not that original or enticing nothing groundbreaking and it’s a pass for me. Though I am glad I got to try it.

I get those vibes of why this reminds ppl of BTFP but it’s nowhere near as strong! This is a much lighter version. I like it but not full bottle worthy. Good scent tho for just going out for some errands. I feel like a get a kind of plum scent, jammy tho.

Woody vanilla with Iso E. I am kind of down on Iso E but it is ok here. This perfume does layer very well with others as was the original intent. Gallagher’s best works (so far) are Wicked Good and Behold, Patchouli in that order but I am still happy to own this. Edit 1/12/22 - Haven't worn this in a while and it's great...maybe it macerated or something. Getting a sweet, woody vanilla w/ more nuances now with a lovely burnt, smokiness peeking in and out today.

This is a very beautiful, simplistic vanilla. Like vanilla extrait with a touch of sweetness. Although I really don't think this is like By the Fireplace or Sultan one bit. Rather, this is in the same vein as Vaniglia and Vanille West Indies; just a linear vanilla with little to no spices. It's done right for sure. I still believe Vaniglia is my favorite of this DNA, but Vanilla Silk is quite a contender.

This is a complex vanilla. It isn’t so gourmand. It is revealing the depths of vanilla beyond any sweetness and some people interpret those depths as smoke. It is not smoky. It is quite lovely. It is analogous to what Gallagher did with Behold Patchouli — he is fantastic as a perfumer today as he reveals the facets of a main note beyond the cliche and beyond what we are trained to expect.

doesn't even smell a tiny bit smoky. do you guys know what smoke smells like? like burning incense sticks, like cigarette/cigar smoke, like pipe tobacco smoke, like a campfire. this, has none of it. it's creamy, semi sweet and woody vanilla. SIMPLE and un-smoked

Delicious, smoky vanilla with burnt sugar flavor. It is a definite keeper although I blind bought it with the limited edition offer. Superb projection and longevity. I feel it's the best and the most striking vanilla in my collection.

Gorgeous! For me, it’s a woody, spicy vanilla that wears well and true throughout the day and doesn’t turn too sickly sweet or rubbery like some other vanillas can. Wonderful, immediately got a backup bottle!

I sampled this the other day and it immediately reminded me of "By the Fireplace" except that the longevity here is superior. Go easy on the trigger; this one's a beast.

Not a fan. Smells JUST like Replica's By the Fireplace. Has the same smokiness that By the Fireplace has. I can't tell them apart.

For people comparing this to By the Fireplace, you are so wrong, they are completely different.
