Berlin

Berlin is a fresh summer scent based around the contrast of a Haitian vetiver with fresh citrus an oxidized black tea. To the experienced nose this can be a very pleasant experience, or a dull one, depending on one's tastes. Berlin opens with two prominent citrus notes in my opinion: a grapefruit rind that provides bitterness and the flesh of a mandarin that provides a soured sweetness. These combine with and sharp black pepper spice to make the nostrils tingle. The opening has an aromatic nature that I believe comes from the addition of a secret pink pepper note that holds it all together. Into the mid one is introduced to the smell of everyday black tea leaves, before being brewed, with their unique scent that melds smoky woodiness with a metallic fresh state. The tea dominates for the majority of the scent before giving way to a natural-derived Haitian vetiver note: fresh, green, woody, inky, and smoky. The performance on the fragrance is soft providing a nature that can be described as "understated," which aligns well with the brand's mission. Overall, a enjoyable fresh scent that is different without being too different, exceptionable wearable, and unmistakably Gallivant.

Berlin is another freshie release from Gallivant Perfumes. Its mixed citrus opening (clementine, lemon, grapefruit) gives way to a heart of black tea and pepper and final a base of vetiver, cedar, and patchouli. The heart of black tea and pepper provides the fragrances slightly mysterious, spicy character, and distinguishes it from the mostly-fresh Brooklyn (which has a musky, powdery dry down) and Tel Aviv (which is more dominantly floral throughout its life. Berlin is one that evolves interestingly from its very fresh opening to its still-somewhat-fresh-but-spicy-and-earthy dry down. That it's not linear helps it tell a story, and it's a story I like to read. Berlin's performance is comparable to Tel Aviv and Brooklyn, so very good for a freshie, but one might still question the performance for the price ($95 for 30ml). Thus far, Berlin is the Gallivant offering I'm most inclined to buy but I still need to sample the other three more thoroughly. 8 out of 10

This VERY unisex fragrance is a well-balanced mix of cedarwood, citrus, and spice. On my skin, the star of the show is the cedarwood, with the citrus notes only playing a supporting role in keeping the wood notes bright and fresh. The black pepper is also prominent but never tries to overtake the other notes. It's easy to wear, but still interesting, which is generally the category of fragrances I look to buy in full-sized bottles: something I don't have to wait for a special occasion to wear, but is still unique enough to feel special. To me, Berlin very much fits that description. I've been looking for a wood-based scent that still managed to be light, fresh, and approachable and definitely found that in Berlin.

A very nice unisex zingy scent with equal amounts of citrus, tea and vetiver. My nose is tickled by a good dose of pepper. It's interesting that the clementine and tea seems to be the most tenacious notes on my skin. Its a shame it doesn't last very long. Less than average longevity and sillage. I guess not surprising considering the notes.

I love citrus scents so this fragrance is a winner for me. But there is more to it than just fresh citrus. There is an added sophistication. A green wood note and a slightly dusty scent that reminds me of money notes. For me this is a daytime scent and is unisex. It is fresh, clean, businesslike.

Another lovely citrus based scent from Gallivant but this one is more restrained , less bouncy. I am a fan of citrus scented based products so this is one of my go to bottles of a morning. Clean and fresh with a quiet underlying complexity of wood and pepper spice.

Definitely there are notes not listed above. I do smell jasmine and tuberose but woody notes are quite prominent so I would say it is female leaning unisex perfume. Moderate projection with 4-5 h. longevity.

Stunning green fragrance with lots of juniper berries, peppery notes and smooth woody base. I really like this refreshing and spicy combo, could be easily my everyday office scent. Lovely! IG: scent.guide

Nicely done: crisp 'n dry mix of tea, citrus and vetiver with a prickly intelligence and a peppery wit. The vetiver is ultra-clean so there's no need to fear any murky, dank, rotting notes - this is all very light-green and fresh throughout. Whatever dark work the patchouli is doing in there, it's not making itself felt much either, another possible pitfall avoided. Overall this seems pretty synthetic on me, at least at first, but it's all balanced out very very cleverly - so even though I had a tinge of worry about things being about to go metallic and fake-musky, that never happened. You definitely feel it's a modernist, lab-brewed product rather than some opulent period legend, but for that very reason, it's restrained and restful in a way a lusher scent just isn't. It's the difference between modern Scandi style and full French rococo interiors. Performance is also very pleasingly robust for the first 2-3 h - it seems to fix and hold the first sparkle of zest and tea really well, far better than other more 'quality' scents might manage - but not all that tenacious overall; I only get a usable 5-6h total before needing a top-up. Clean and discreet all the way; even your most formal colleague who's still Herr or Frau X after a decade of working together could not object to this, I think. Utterly unisex, too. It's really serviceable but I think I might have been spoiled for it by having smelled OJ Qi and Kilian Imperial Tea first - those are the luxe, high-end versions of this concept, and both are honestly a bit lovelier (though also more expensive.) This is still niche enough to be worth the step up from mass market treatments like Roger & Gallet The Fantasie and so on - it does mimic the clever aromatic stuff of Ormond Jayne smells well - but still might be judged a very little overpriced (maybe 10-20% more than it really justifies?) at full RRP; at a decent discount it would be EXCELLENT value. Strong like, but not all the way to love. Still much much more gutt than I expected. Well played!

Berlin is a bright, citrus-led aromatic freshie, nothing groundbreaking, but a nice example of its genre. The prominent grapefruit note is the only slightly unusual thing about this, but Berlin is very classic in style, reminiscent of countless other unisex freshies - citrus atop a woody base. It reminds me of Zara Emotions Vétiver Pamplemousse, but with more complexity and lasting power. Berlin opens with a juicy, realistic citrus accord, led by the aforementioned grapefruit. Bright and fresh, but with an underlying tartness, it is refreshing. Lemon follows, adding bite. The sweeter orange follows after a little while, emerging as the tang of the opening mellows, but more subdued than the grapefruit or lemon. The aromatic undertone is present from the beginning, developing in the background. The dry woods and peppery spice enhance the citrus nicely. Vetiver is particularly prominent. I get a herbal undertone, more tea than patchouli. It fades to a slightly musky, woody skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is a unisex scent for hot days. Classy yet casual, Berlin is an easy reach in warm weather. Nothing exciting, but it is nicely put-together, fuss-free and versatile - much like its namesake! 3.5/5.

Having worn this entire line a couple of times now I have to say that I've quite smitten with the easy going charm, exuded by each one of these fragrances. Berlin was the first I wore properly on skin and it didn't disappoint. Uplifting and fresh Berlin is a mixed bag of bitter citrus and tangerine qualities, with the longer lasting citrus of petitgrain. The heart of Berlin is a tea note which complements the bright opening and with vetiver backing it up adds a hint of dry smoke...but not much. It settles very smooth and considering tea and citrus can have sharp metallic qualities it's a mellow fragrance. Perhaps a little to mellow? No I can't fault it, Berlin lasted okay and really woke me up, energising my Monday morning. I like it.

Berlin opens with a light, perfumey floral, and then quickly moves into dry black tea and pepper. And *then* we get the shining citrus promised in the notes – yep, that’s a brisk woody-citrus all right, bright grapefruit and black pepper and a touch of smoke. The perfect morning pick-me-up. In the far drydown, the woods are gone and it’s just clean, light citrus, a little on the sharp side. Berlin is a lot like other instances of the woody-citrus genre – Wood Haven is similar – but they’re all good in my book. Masc-of-center, invigorating, with citrus brightness but also more smoky spine and staying power than a cologne.

A very clean, crisp citrus with lots of black pepper. This is the first of the Gallivant fragrances where I could not tell immediately why it was named after a particular city, although I guess the idea is that Berlin is cold and crisp (and peppery?). The citrus and the pepper are an interesting and even likable combination, but in this formulation, not a lovable one; I can think of many citrus scents I would wear before this one (including Nobile 1942's Fougere Nobile, which also combines pepper and citrus but much, much more winningly).

It's a combination of vetiver, grapefruit, and black pepper. Even with these notes, it is not a dark or heavy fragrance, but rather light. It's unique in that it is a freshie that you can still wear in mild fall or spring. I personally don't prefer this in the dead of summer, as I have tried this and the notes either fly off my skin or don't mingle well with one another. Now, if your summers are neither humid nor dry, then yes, it's a go.

Berlin is a nice, not too exclusive, mix of a sweet tangerine, black tea and vetyver. This is so perfectly made for a male to be open to wear tangerine, but truly unisex. It is a calm citrus-based scent for cloudy summer Days, will not cloy you, but will not make you standout. I am not sure about the price Point, I would not buy a full bottle.

A nice enough lighter smooth citrus and woody vetiver. It is inoffensive clean. Appropriate for office, heat, or crowded situations Beautifully blended but nothing ground breaking if that is your aim. No screechiness or harsh edges. Wearing from a discovery set. Istanbul seems to be the standout in this line for me.

Clean, fresh warm weather scent. Opens up really bright, citrusy and woody ( I'm supprised Neroli isnt listed as a note). Dries down to a toned down spicy vetiver and citrus smell. Nothing groundbreaking but worth checking out in my opinion. Smells similar to - Essential Parfums : Nice Bergamote. Unisex definitely.

Reminds me of a more masculine Fig Infusion from Essential. Notes are nothing special, but it does captivate a Berlin energy. Easy office and gym wear. Sits very close to skin after 2hr. Slightly overpriced, and unlikely to get compliments. Overall 3/5.

A very pleasant scent. Up close you can smell the pepper and patchouli but when I get whiffs from arm's length it's mostly a clean vetiver scent that reminds me of Armani Privé Vétiver d'Hiver. I really like it but it doesn't last that long.

I love the duality of this scent, the citrus and bright herbaceous notes contrast with the smoky feel of vetiver. It's beautifully blended. But then came the heartbreak, the longevity is very poor -- not 2 hours on me.

A very simple, light and airy citrusy vetiver. Very similar to Guerlain L'homme Boise, expected much more to be honest.

Beautiful woody citrus scent. Very casual, not pretentious.

Smells very artificial so I can't possibly go into depth with my description (it's something I just dislike too hard), it smells lemony in an almost bitter sort of way (cleaning chemicals but not full blown like Unknown Pleasures) and I could've sworn I sensed some rose deep behind all the obvious notes... Now I see it isn't listed so it remains a mystery to me. Anyway, there are people out there who don't want to smell like plastic so I'm warning them of this fragrance.

Nice realistic citrusy opening on a vetiver / woods base, similar to the Guerlain Homme line. I’m not so familiar with L’Eau Boisée but the original Homme came immediately to mind when I sprayed. On drydown however this falls short, with a scratchy laundry-soap musk overwhelming the vetiver. And the drydown comes up fast ... 8 hours of screechy synthetics is just too high a price for the opening. Outclassed by the Guerlain, for me.

Second time wearing Berlin, and I fall in the poor performance camp. My skin absorbs this scent too fast. Loved the hour or so it was noticeable: a light citrus and warm, earthy, vetiver which leans synthetic. A good summer scent. But at $95 for 30ml, it’s too expensive for what you get: a cologne style perfume.

Something about the grapefruit, tea and cedar together is hitting me like a citronella candle. It's not unpleasant but not in the same league as others from Gallivant (different families but I'm holding everything to a benchmark set by Tokyo and Naples).

After I read a review comparing Berlin to a lemon gin fizz, that's the only thing I picture when testing this. The perfect description. It's a nice lemony cocktail, cooler citrus compared to Brooklyn, a bit more masculine.

Where is the fresh and zingy top notes as the bio depicts? I’m looking and waiting yet it never appears. It’s a face full of powder and pepper good lord. Someone if this is citrus then I’m a 3 legged elephant help.

I swear I smelled rose upon first spray. It quickly became a fresh lemon and cedar. It’s subtle and smells a bit synthetic. Still a nice mild citrus shampoo scent. I’m giving it to the hubby.

A scent profile that has been done to death and better I might add. Extremely simplistic. A mild citrus woody scent. Basically a gym scent for a guy.

I'm not a big fan of this fragrance, nor this house. Ive tried all these scents, and at first when I started entering the realm of fragrances, this was kinda of nice. Now that I look in retrospect, Its because they are mainstream smells, with poor performance, and my nose didn't know any better as a beginner. This is on the level of Aqua di Gio, and I'd say that Aqua is better actually. Just a citrus boring frag. Skip on this house and try something like Amouage or Maison Francis Kurdjian or one of my absolute favorite houses ROJA. Save money for a FIRE frag, and you will never regret it, that I promise you.

Opening to a low budget citrus, perhaps Dihydromercinol, with an aromatic magnolia aroma chemical giving some body and depth. Soapy edge, with a hint of spice but thats about all for first impressions. This is said to be for ‘sexy modern bohemians’ but if they’re as bland as this is generic I pray I never meet them. Beware the throat irritating aroma chemicals I’ve found from the house. Can’t endorse the brand in quality or composition, only on the concept behind the brand - which I still love. I had high hopes... disappointed...

This is a blast of Grapefruits and black pepper to your face! Great for a fresh clean airy, scent. But rather boring with very little change on my skin. Sits softly, not extremely loud! It would be good for the beach?

Kawaii grapefruit Fanta with vauge tea facet and nondescript woody base. I will look into other Berlin renditions. Bye! ;)

The fragrance of Berlin depicts, through its creative concept, the contrasts of the largest city in Germany, whose territory houses forests, parks, gardens, rivers, and lakes that account for 1/3 of the total area. Concrete and steel stand imposingly in a city of brutal construction, elegant parquet hardwood floors, lots of leather, smoke, spices and summer days with the right to swim in the Strandbad Wannsee, considered the beach of Berliners. It has notes of grapefruit, clementine, lemon and Schinus molle (obtained through soft extraction with CO2 process) in the output, creating a refreshing citrus accord. Then, the body of the fragrance brings spicier nuances of black tea and black pepper, on a woody base with notes of vetiver from Haiti, cedar and patchouli. On the skin, Berlin behaves exactly the way it was classified: a citrus-spicy-woody scent. It contains the juiciness of the grapefruit, the blazing of black pepper, the freshness of the tea and the density of the vetiver, which combines with the cedar and, together, confer a content that is woody-fresh. Do not worry, as the patchouli is almost imperceptible in this fragrance. The problem is that, unfortunately, this perfume of 2017 did not conquer me. In part, for being very inexpressive and basic, different from the creative aspect of the other fragrances of Gallivant and also for having a performance much lower than expected, both in projection and durability. In addition, its fragrance has no innovation and although the raw materials used are of better quality, the result does not match and ends up bringing a scent that is similar to products that I have already seen on the shelves aimed at the mass market but with better durability. In summary, in terms of perfumes with more refreshing content, Berlin gets beat up by Brooklyn, which ends up delivering greater quality and resourcefulness, even in the heat of Brazil, and also has citrus facets. Particularly, I do not think it's worth investing in an Indie Perfumery product, to get a scent resembling that of a fragrance inside the portfolio of brands like Kenzo or Issey Miyake and inferior performance, taking just 30ml. It can be easy to sell, it has versatility, but it's totally dispensable!

I absolutely love this scent if you are a fan of super fresh citrus. By now we all need to stop zinging citrus scents for bad performance. Make your own purse spray and reapply. Problem solved!!! Citrus is a top not and that is always the first to go but I am a heavy hitter and like that I can fully indulge myself in a citrus scent with overpowering everyone. Also their are times when I can't smell this scent anymore and thinks it's gone to skin and someone will tell me how amazing I smell. OK so more about this scent in particular. This scent reminds of a expensive glass of lemonade that is served at 5 star hotels. The kind of lemonade that only has enough sweetener to take the edge off of the citrus. I like to keep this in the fridge and give myself a spray when I need a pick me up. It's amazing. I have Elysium by Roja and these scents are nothing alike on my noise and skin. If it has a cousin at all it would possibly be Eau d'Hadrien by Annick Goutal but Berlin still is the champion when it comes to freshness and the lightness of the scent. It's simply divine in my book.

Berlin by Gallivent triggers my allergies. But I don’t mind. It reminds me of a college trip I took to Malibu and a day spent at the J.Paul Getty museum on the coast. It smells like youth, lemons and stolen art. In the years since, Getty has returned some of its acquisitions, so fittingly, this scent does fade, but the memory remains. I would pop a claritan and wear it everyday of summer. In Winter, only when I'm blue. 8 out of 10

A bright, lightly sweet citrus scent that feels very youthful on my skin and works well for everyday wear. The bottle feels solid in hand with a nice, well-balanced design. The cap is plastic rather than stone, but it doesn’t feel cheap at all. Overall, it’s a good option as a gift thanks to its reasonable price.

Berlin is a very light, citrus style fragrance with dry wood undertones. On my skin it sits very close (very soft sillage), and quickly turns into a musky citrus skin scent. The scent its self is pleasant enough, however the longevity is quite poor for an EDP at that price.

Cold, edgy, undeniably sexy. Very much like Berlin itself. These aren’t the elements of Berlin like Galivants editions of Istanbul or Toyko but really an interesting take on the electric vibe that is Berlin.

Diptyque Orpheon EDT smells eerily identical to this and this is older and cost less. You do get less in this also than diptyque but it’s very identical.

This is a better ingredients version of Azzaro Chrome Acqua. Nothing special
