Brooklyn

The fragrance of Brooklyn portrays, in its creative concept, the routine of the New Yorkers, with their coffee breaks, a lunch in the middle of Central Park or a walk on the famous Brooklyn Bridge. It has top notes of bergamot, squeezed lemon and orange juice, which gain contrast with incense, cardamom and ozonic notes. In the body of the fragrance, we have notes of magnolia, iris root and a floral touch. Finally, at the base, notes of white woods, amber, benzoin and musks. As I applied Brooklyn on my skin, I immediately remembered my visit to New York, but not necessarily the neighborhood that inspired the fragrance. New York is known to be more than a place, but a state of mind. It is that kind of city that never stops, which attracts people from all corners of the world and breathes modernity and cosmopolitan life. And this scent reminded me of my ride on the High Line, with its side benches and flower beds. Brooklyn has that kind of fragrance that evokes fascinating memories of a place you always want to return to, exactly what the brand seeks to portray through its creations. It is citric and full of depth. The orange note is delicious and merge to the incense in an incredible way. They could be contrasting, but they connect very well. Then, the floral heart gains denser nuances, thanks to the iris. The evolution is subtle, but it happens. And when you realize, a creamy base comes up and gives the finishing touch to a story that seemed to be complete, but in fact was not. I would say that Brooklyn symbolizes the next step for those who are today fans of fragrances like Dior Homme Cologne or Guerlain L'Homme Ideal Cologne, but who are looking for olfactory evolution and more sophisticated fragrances, towards the universe of niche perfumes. In its complex simplicity, Brooklyn is perfectly unisex and full of beauty. It is a perfume that conveys joy and well-being. I really enjoyed!

To me Gallivant succeeds with its Brooklyn where Bond No 9 strives (and mostly fails) - creating scent that defines one of New York City neighborhoods. Not all Brooklyn, of cause, more like newly gentrified parts of it. It opens with masterfully blended blast of citruses, but from the very beginning both magnolia and benzoin are noticeable as well. I wish this beautiful opening would last longer. Within 30 min only hint of orange remains from all citruses, orris arrives, benzoin becomes more prominent, hints of musk and woods appear. Projection and sillage, that initially was borderline heavy at opening settles to be moderate. Scent reminds of some kind of expensive hair product, but not in unpleasant way. After one more hour scent morphs again with amber notes coming into play and woods becoming more prominent. At this stage it really reminds me of Park Slope on sunny day. It lasts 8-9 hours, but 3-4 of them only as skin scent, and applying it on clothes doesn't affect its performance much. Taking into consideration, however, that it is mostly Spring-Summer-Early Autumn type of scent, and none of citrus scents last long, it would be expected and shouldn't be criticized too harsh.

This was an unexpected love for me as I'm not normally a citrus fan. For me, the orange notes in here are more like an orange creamsicle - made soft and comforting by the florals rather than bright and sharp pure citrus. Rather than evolve over time, I found this scent remained much the same on me the whole time I wore it but just get softer over time, but I actually enjoyed that since I wanted the orange creamsicle effect to last a while. I found from the sample I got straight from Gallivant that the perfume is VERY faint. It was almost undetectable when I first sprayed it (and this was after 6 sprays!). I do not see any of the other reviewers mentioning that issue though, so it may have just been a problem with my sample. The scent I did get lasted about 3-4 hours before disappearing entirely. There is something about this scent after a couple hours that reminds me of the smell of Play-Doh from my childhood, but in a way that just makes the scent feel familiar and pleasant. No clue why, but also not a negative!

I don’t get much citrus from this, but I don’t mind that. I agree with previous comments that say this is tomboyish and it grows on you. I did not expect to like this so much when I first smelled it, but I kept coming back to it. It’s mostly powdery to me and almost papery. It reminds me of someone who studies a lot, gets straight As and plays by the rules. Someone who doesn’t bother with silly things like nail polish and makeup, has a wardrobe of common sense items and hand-me-downs. Someone who is definitely not me, but I’d like to play sometimes. It’s like it’s pretty, but doesn’t know it’s pretty. Feminine, but doesn’t try to be feminine. Seems most appropriate for daytime at the office or school. Edit: it’s August and I am really feeling this right now. It’s really pretty in the heat and as I’m starting grad school, it’s comforting during the stressfulness.

I own several perfumes from this brand and sampled a couple as well, and i've noticed that smokiness seems to be the dna of all Gallivants perfumes. That is not a bad thing at all, Brooklyn is definitely one of my favourites. It opens up smoky (but where does the smokiness come from!?) and powdery at the same time which is very interesting. It works surprisingly well and will follow you all the way to the base notes. In the dry down you get a fruity sweetness from the orange, a slight bitterness from the lemon, and the elegant floral freshness from the magnolia. They all blend very well and it's truly a well crafted masterpiece! It's a very modern perfume, and quite urban in a way. I can imagine hipsters in Brooklyn smelling like this. The longevity is great too! Lasts around eight hours on my skin. I love this scent! It's also quite affordable for being niche.

I fell in love with Brooklyn so much I bought a 100ml bottle. It's a really sweet lemon, but there is something very comforting about it. Possibly it's nostalgia because it reminds me of the smell of kids' yellow penicillin medicine, which my siblings got to take but I didn't because I'm allergic to it. It always smelled delicious to me and I'd have loved to have tasted it. With Brooklyn, I can at least enjoy the smell. I find it very fun to wear and it never fails to make me feel happy. I love it and it is my number one from Galivant with Istanbul coming in a very close second. Shout out to Gallivant's founder Nick Steward who is an absolute gent and one of the nicest people you could ever hope to talk to.

My favourite from the entire Gallivant line. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 I love it so much that I bought the largest 100ml bottle and I have zero regrets. Predominantly very sweet sugary lemons. Quite reminiscent of the smell of lemon drops and child-friendly penicillin (that luminous yellow medicine most people will be familiar with) Brooklyn layers really well with Lush's Super Milk leave-in conditioner which also reminds me of the smell of amoxicillin medicine. Wear Super Milk in your hair and Brooklyn on your skin. I guarantee you will smell chef's kiss deliciously edible. Great for Spring and Summer wear. Longevity and silage are both moderate.

Love this scent . To me, it is perfect. The initial blast of citrus is a joy, then that wonderful subtly spicy aspect is so attractive, to me. I can smell IsoE Super or some such synthetic. It doesn't overwhelm, though. Everything is in perfect balance. The only point at which one note dominates is in the opening blast of citrus. Then it softens and holds hands with the other notes. The one thing that makes me sad is the amount I have to spray in order to get an effect that pleases me and because it is expensive per ml., I want my bottle to last and last. My tiny, little, beautiful bottle of bliss.

Love it! So zingy. Orange peel and lemons! Resinous benzoin softens and melds them together. A warmth from amber and a lovely floral element from the magnolia. It's quite potent and very stimulating. If you are feeling a bit jaded then this will certainly perk you up. Nothing too harsh though. Very unisex. The orange and lemon notes are top notes so you can't expect great longevity. They last quite well in Brooklyn though. For most of its timeline it is a zingy yet warm amber based scent. Above average longevity and sillage. I think Gallivant could be turning into my new fave fragrance house.

Gorgeous and extremely unique citrus with great performance. This is completely different than any other citrus fragrance I’ve tried. It reminds me of fresh orange mixed with rain and/or wet concrete with fizzy tonic water and grassy fields if that makes any sense. This bubbly fizzy sensation mixed with rain is something I’ve never experienced in a citrus fragrance before. I put 4 sprays on and I’m still going strong 10 hours later. Bravo!

I don't get the bad reviews. This little lemony delight fills me with nostalgic joy. I find it so uplifting. Hot summer days with not a cloud in the sky. Riding your bike down a country lane with your friends, with a paper bag of fizzy lemon sweets in your pocket to share. What's not to love?

I'm not quite sure this juice reminds me of Brooklyn but what I am saying is....I need a bottle...fast. Fantastic juice. A++++

Brooklyn baffler! One of the most paradoxical shapeshifters I've ever smelled, with four entirely separate phases which don't seem to have much to do with each other... un-linear isn't in it, this tells a story bizarrely full of twists. On me it unfolds like this: CHAPTER I: Tangerine love hearts! Bright piercing orange, fake-but-charming citrus, but pretty one-note and scarily sweet, somehow like it's been smothered in huge dustings of icing sugar. Not syrup - it's got that powdery ultra-white ultra-bright sweetness. Weird, but sort of cute, for an hour or so... CHAPTER II: Metallic musk, of the sort that often spoils a citrus scent for me, creeps in and does its unwelcome thing for another 30 to 60 minutes, echoing but not really stretching the orange, but at least smelling something like slightly salted skin that's not too dirty. A cheap trick that smells it. Thumbs down. But wait! CHAPTER III: Within another hour the musk has mellowed completely and is doing something much nicer, softening, becoming far more subtle, powdery, almost-spicy with the orris, getting earthier, almost (distantly) like Malle's lovely Eau d'Hiver. What a comeback! It fades fast, making me think the curtain would fall and it would be all over by say 3 to 4h in. So I was ready to write it off totally, even if admiring its turnaround. And THEN, just to confuse me more, comes CHAPTER IV: a fully lovely, entirely beautiful dry-down of gorgeous subtle woods, now fully spicy and classy with it, but by now terribly close to skin, almost totally a private pleasure and barely there... but yes it is, giving out the odd puff of pleasure up to 7-8hours. So only two out of four acts please me. Does that make it worth living through the start? Just can't decide - I've never felt so ambivalent about different phases of the same scent. A head-scratcher, for sure. Like the rest of the Gallivants I've tried, reasonably priced, clearly niche, distinctive and not cliched at all ...but a little harsh and artificial-seeming at times to be totally seductive. It's a proper weirdo, but I have to admit a fascinating one. Not a buy for me, but given its capacity for surprise, I think you should try it - whoever you are, whatever your taste.

Brooklyn is a citrus-led, ozonic floral, nothing particularly exciting or unusual, and not the kind of thing that I'm particularly drawn to. I expected a riff on Santal 33, given the name, but I guess that the subtle, tomboyish freshness of this scent works thematically too. It is a decent, pleasant scent that manages to be both fresh and cosy - an easy everyday scent. Brooklyn is citrus-led, with lemon evident up top, more candied than acidic and juicy. Orange follows, similar in texture. The florals follow, lightweight and ozonic, with clean, sheer but synthetic magnolia most prominent to my nose. The clean, synthetic musk permeates this scent from the early stages. As it develops, I get some powdery orris, but it very much plays a supporting role here. It remains musky with some woods evident as it dries down. The ozonic airiness lingers throughout, adding to the synthetic cleanness that makes up this scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is feminine-leaning in my opinion, best worn on spring/summer days. An easy, breezy clean-girl scent, Brooklyn is fuss-free and pleasant, making good use of synthetic musks. Not my thing, but not bad. 3/5.

Brooklyn was my very first impression of Gallivant and so it seems appropriate to fully sample and review this one first. Brooklyn is, at first, a strong citrus opening but the underlying, contrasting woody/powdery/musky element quickly creates a juxtaposition that conjures the idea of an urban garden, the concrete and brick of a city mixed with the plants that inhabit it. The duality of the sharpness of the citrus and orris and the relative mildness of the musk and resins keeps Brooklyn in balance, suspended between being a true summer freshie and something heavier and earthier. Its performance is very good for a fragrance that has a lot of freshness. Even a most number of tiny squirts from a sample sprayer on each wrist yielded a significant scent could for a couple of hours and had above average longevity thereafter. 7 out of 10

It's very difficult for me to pick out individual notes in this fragrance. The overall impression is one of a slightly powdery lemon creamsicle. Very pleasant and reminds me of the types of scents that Byredo makes like Sundazed or Bal D'Afrique. It becomes a skin scent rather quickly. If this is the scent of Brooklyn then it's one of the new upscale hotels or spas to be found there. I find other Gallivant fragrances more interesting, particularly Los Angeles, but certainly would not be averse to owning a full bottle of this.

Opens with a lot of orange zest and drippy, citrus notes, almost sour, straddling the line between natural and synthetic. I think there is a light iso e super in the mix and I like how it’s used. Smells expensive. Morphs into a powdery, warm golden amber base. Decent performance with several hours before turning to a skin scent. I’d wear Brooklyn in Spring and early Summer. Another choice offering from Gallivant.

Discovery set as well, and as others said, liked Brooklyn the most. It definitely smells like Coca-Cola! Did not like how powdery it turned on my skin after a few hours but overall, enjoyed it. Also, oddly enough this was the only scent in the entire set that did not induce a headache. This says alot coming from me as I do not get headaches!

Nice one. Simple but sophisticated enough to consider paying more than for a Ck. Wanders feminine (prominent magnolia?), but man can pull it off too. Dry down similar to Jil Sanders Sun (wmns). It's the greatness of the 2nd one rather than cheapness of the Gallivant. Sprayer proofs it - impressively top-notch quality wooooof.

Could be amazing, bright fresh Amber which knocks off any threat of the citrus going the way of cleaning products. The orange is quite zesty. I hope the amber would give longevity. Unfortunately it faded so quickly on me, so won’t be a full purchase but it’s beautiful on first spray and unisex. Bah for the longevity

Certainly is citrusy. But the other elements make it much more complex than just lemons. I like to wear this in the morning when things need to be done. It is fresh, businesslike , bright and yet also sophisticated.

I love how bright and fresh Brooklyn is, but there's a rubbing alchohol quality that just ruins it for me. I've tried them all and there isn't one that doesn't have this nose burning note.

Opens with a refreshing blast of lime and then...huh? I'm amazed at the other reviews that claim good longevity. On my skin it disappeared in minutes. Must be me...

This is incredibly unique, largely citrus+amber as the "main accords" section reveals. Urban citrus with character and warmth.

This smells like a lemon hard candy. It doesn't project at all and is a skin scent. Soapy lemon.

This opens with a synthetic citrus blast, and then develops markedly into an amber/resiny base with florals behind it. It's not linear, and the development is interesting, but this certainly did not seem very natural (although why would one ever expect a perfume evoking a city to be natural?). I don't dislike this, but I would not buy a full bottle. This is the last of a long series of Gallivant samples I've tried, most from a discovery set, but others purchased individually. I've had four perfumes I've really liked--Los Angeles, London, Istanbul, and Tel Aviv (which I favor in that order, with Los Angeles being my favorite). But most of the others--like this one--have left me feeling disappointed.

Opens up citrusy fresh, dries down to a boring floral scent. Linear, uninspiring woman oriented fragrance. I dont like it.

CARBON COPY OF COLONIA? Genuinely have so much love for travel and the concept behind the brand. And I desperately want to love the compositions from the house but I have to be honest about my experience... Great little opening, fresh and floral yet zingy with citrus - and even a little burst of lemon sherbet. but then I sniffed a second, third and forth time... and then the inevitable truth - this smells almost like a carbon copy of something from the Acqua di Parma Colonia series, I believe it’s Assoluta. I’ve never been to Brooklyn but I don’t get the connection, this evokes the Amalfi coast - it’s even a in the same style as a classic style Italian cologne! And I have to be honest, if they’re picking a fight with Acqua di Parma, for the price and the quality of juice in the bottle AdP wins all day. I’m very disappointed with the cheap, scratchy aroma chemicals I’ve experienced in the first 3 scents I’ve smelled from this house. I’m holding my fingers crossed for the next 5 that I have because I’ll be the first one to sing from the rooftops... VERDICT: I love the concepts of the brand, I love travel, and I absolutely love to be transported by a scent. I’m into indie perfumery for creativity, innovation and great execution - not poor clones. Either they’ve deliberately copied a classic, or they’re not aware of the rich history of perfumery. This does nothing to forward on that art, its a cheap, scratchy but still wearable fragrance. Nice bottle, and solid concept... it’s just a shame the first 3 scents I’ve tried haven’t delivered on that concept. Hard pass on this one for me. Third disappointment from the house. I still have my fingers crossed for the next.

After a really brief citrusy-airy floral opening (less than a minute!), Brooklyn is a sweet bakery smell, a little abstracted with orris butter and a touch of floralcy, and then moves into an odd curry-spiced phase. I'm not a fan -- it's too savory and foody. Eventually the curry spice fades and we're just left with that mild shortbread-cookie scent in the base; this phase is quite graceful and likable.

Low sillage and doesn't seem special. I received a sample and won't be buying a bottle. I do own Istanbul from this house and like it better.

A dystopian vision of the future. Cyberpunk duty free synth vibes of lemon + Felce Azzurra 2077, then musky iris. Sheesh!

Smells mildly of lemon at first, like a way better version of Unknown Pleasures by Kerosene. Then within 2min it's just floral. Meh. Smells like the same magnolia in every low end girly perfume.

I am head over heels loving this! Only worn it once fully and tested twice on bits of skin so not a full review but let me have my say if you'll indulge me.... When you first spray this on you get a light lemon that is neither too tart nor syrupy but instead just freakin' pleasantly perfect. There is absolutely no hint of cleaning product in this lemon which is fantastic as so often lemon in fragrances just brings to mind some kind of cleaning chore. There's a light woodsy sweetness and a really soft fuzzly clean muskiness. Brings to mind a subtle version of 4160 Tuesdays Sexiest Scent on the Planet. If you've tried Sylvaine Delacourts Musc collection this would fit right alongside. What I love though is the way this changes on my skin throughout the day. There was a point in the day it reminded me of Guerlain's much loved and missed Iris Ganache, yes honestly. There are points when you get smoky amber but oh so light and transparent. There is the perfect amount of balance with a hint of sweetness offset by the resins, woods and lemon. I cannot wait to explore this fragrance fully. I'm spraying from a sample so being a bit tight but it does seem to sit not on the skin but about an inch or so away so perhaps not a big projector but it does last extremely well as I sprayed last night around 7pm and it was still detectable at 6am the next day. I'm seriously impressed!

Wow, after reading some reviews below I feel like mine is a little off. On first spray, I got a fizzy, powdery cola. Like those little bottlecap candies, maybe the orange & root beer flavored ones combined. Hmm. About 5 hours in, it is a faint powdery amber. Pleasant, but not full bottle worthy.

After blowing through quite a few samples over the years, finally bought a FB. I’m not getting that lemony candy as much as an ozonic woody smell. It’s airy, clean and a bit sweet. In one word, cozy. This one grows on you over time.

Recently got a full bottle as a gift after i sampled this. This is soooo godamn good! With decent longevity aswell, projection is pretty bad, which is a bad or a good thing, i would safe office safe is you control your sprays.

Really lovely effervescent citrus that’s easy to wear and not your everyday citrus. The Magnolia in this makes this scent to my nose reminiscent of Byredo’s Bal D’Afrique.

I got the discovery set and this was the nicest of the bunch. Agree w/ ritch below...not impressed by this house. All the perfumes have a synthetic feeling.

Hmmm I wonder if this is like roja's a mid summer dream because of the subtle powdery-ness linked with the lemon pez comparison?

As a reviewer of many words, the note I left on this while testing it was as follows: Lemon candy, stinky zing, urinal cake.
