Buenos Aires

By far, the best Gallivant fragrance. Unfortunately for some, it's more for men than unisex. It's well-blended and unique. Off all Gallivant fragrances this is the only one I would consider worth buying.

Beautifully made fragrance but it contains two of my least favorite notes, leather and pettigrain, so it's not for me. Someone will love this!

Wooowww Argentina in a bottle🇦🇷

This is a very leather forward scent paired with a freshly earthy and aromatic yerba mate note. This opens with a sharply citrusy petigrain note and unfortunately I get no grapes, but as the scent develops you get that mate note. It’s dry, earthy, aromatic, fresh. It gets overtaken by a very rich leather. It’s like a motorcyclist sipping on a cup of tea. The dulce de leche note peaks in a bit but the sweetness here is virtually nonexistent aside from a hint here or there. Definitely very masc leaning so not for me but honestly a very enjoyable fresh take on a leather scent.

Buenos Aires opens light, citrusy, and floral, but quickly reveals a sort of caramelized lemon-drop note in the base. Soon, it transforms into the funky-tea note of maté, still surrounded by dense caramel. Sometimes it's very sweet, sometimes more tangy, but always earthy-funky at the core. At around the 15 minute mark the leather arrives, and now we have a warm, chestnut-brown leather touched with sweet caramel and earthy-funky tea. It's definitely an original combination, but it may be too sugary for me. Yeah, by an hour in the leather has receded and Buenos Aires is *just* caramel with a funky-tea aftertaste. Not for me. By two hours in, it's dried down to pure maté, dusty and dry and olive-green. This stage is quite restful; but I still think the path getting here was a little rough.

I got my sample of this from Gallivant yesterday (£6 for 1.2ml or free with a full-size purchase).The short description given by Gallivant on the sample box is "a smooth, nutty, woody perfume. Flamboyant, romantic and sensual". The longer notes on the Gallivant site describe it as "Notes: grape accord, petitgrain, ceibo flower, yerba maté, tonka bean, dulce de leche" and "vineyards, yerba maté, dulce de leche - epicurean pleasures. Smooth & smoky, woody and nutty. Tonka bean, gaucho leather". The initial impact from the top notes is fresh and somewhat spicy. To me, it comes across as more like a traditional aftershave than a perfume for women and men. As it calms down and mellows on my skin, I don't get any of the citrus from the petit grain, but then again (thankfully, IMO), I don't get the dulce de leche either. There is a hint of leather, not unlike Gallivant's London but in Buenos Aires, it is much deeper down in the mix and I have to sniff carefully to pick it up. In London the leather is much more front and centre. Overall, the quality of Buenos Aires stands out. This is another interesting, thoughtful perfume from Gallivant. I'll be sticking with Istanbul, Naples and Tokyo, according to mood, but that's because this isn't my style, not because it isn't a great perfume. If you haven't explored this house, I'd encourage you to get their discovery set. You'll find some you love, some you want to scrub off, but all will intrigue and interest you.

What I smell: incense, leather, caramel, armpit Association: You ate a Wether’s Original caramel candy that you found at the bottom of your bag, and it tastes funny. Someone’s trying to sell gentrified incense to you, but it’s so sunny, bright, and busy out you just want to go home. On the way home, the bus stopped abruptly and your face got shoved into someone’s unwashed armpit. Overall opinion: Maybe if you hang rugs on your wall, enjoy bingo, and lost your sense of smell to covid you’ll like it. I can definitely see someone enjoying this, just not someone I would trust to order food for me or choose my outfit iykwim. 4/10
