Fern Mayo

Of the violet fragrances I own I rate Fern Mayo higher and wear it more often than: Alexander McQueen's My Queen, Berdoues 1902 Violet, Brosseau's Violet Menthe, Insolence edt, D/Squared2's She Wood, Mugler's Violet Angel, Balenciaga's Paris and L'Essence, VC&A's Feerie. Obviously, I have a LOT of violet fragrances so do take it to heart when I state that Fern Mayo is my favorite. Granted, I do prefer my violets to be more sweet (think the deep purple violets of late spring) than cool and breezy (as in the first pale lavender and white ones of early spring). Even given its gourmand candy sweetness, I think Fern Mayo is the most realistic. violet in my collection and it's also the longest lasting. Spray with a light hand though because Fern Mayo has enormous sillage. GET Fern Mayo. If you love violets you'll thank me.

I agree with Weegee’s description of this fragrance, Fern Mayo is a consistently good violet performer easily outranking some of the obvious candidates. I love the violet note and although I don’t wear it that often, when I do I want to be able to get the full force of it and have it hang around for a reasonable period of time. Worn alone or used to amp up the soft powdery factor in other fragrances, this is a must for violet lovers.

I don't know what jawbreakers smell like but this does remind me of our British Palma Violet sweets. Very powdery and not quite as sweet as palma violets. It does remind me of a much softer and fluffier Pharell William Girl scent. If you want a violet scent with good longevity and sillage then this worth checking out.

I agree with weegee’s review. This one is probably my favorite of all the Ganache line. It’s as good as all of weegee’s examples and I would add Penhaligon Violetta and Lush Kerbside Violet and Tuca Tuca to that list as well.

My favorite violet scent and my favorite from the line. There's nothing like the smell of candied violets.

I got Fern Mayo as part of a sample set from Ganache and put it on without looking up the notes. TBH, the opening blast was kind of gross, and I think it's just that the combo of the sweet "jawbreaker" accord (listed on the website) doesn't mix well with the crushed violet powderiness, at least not to my nose. It was bad enough that I tried scrubbing it off with alcohol, but this stuff is the most persistent fragrance I've ever tried and the alcohol basically did nothing. But now that it's dried down, the sweet candy notes aren't there anymore and it's just straight up crushed powdery violet, which is not one of my preferred notes but doesn't smell bad at all. In fact, someone who is looking for a pure, unadorned crushed violet fragrance should probably check this out.

While some get candy or powdered sugar from this strong, charming violet, it never turns sweet on me. In fact, it's a great floral scent for those who prefer their florals slightly tangy. I just sampled Annick Goutal's simple but elegant violet and it is almost identical to this. I prefer to buy from Indie houses, so there you are... As a sub note, if you would like an YSL Paris experience, then simply layer Fern Mayo with a rose scent such as Tea Rose or Island Rose. Paris's sister, at a fraction of the price! A versatile addition to any Violet lover's wardrobe.

Simply ionone violets with powdered sugar. Intense, long lasting, slightly powdery, simple, but still nice.
