Jackie

Jackie was relaunched in 2022, in a Parfum Extrait concentration, following the production partnership signed between Gentleman’s Nod and Mane. However, Jackie was one of the first fragrances sold by the brand within the Legacy collection (along with ERNEST, GEORGE, and JOHNNY), through the work initiated by the founder with fragrances applied to shaving products, not for the body. Its name pays homage to Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in Major League Baseball (MLB) in the modern era, immortalizing his uniform No. 42. The new formulation was created by perfumer Vincent Kuczinski and contains 27% concentration. It is classified as fougère-aromatic and has top notes of pineapple, lemon, green notes, and peppermint. In the body, notes of geranium, lavender, jasmine, and orange blossom are listed, while the base brings notes of sandalwood, tobacco, musk, and amber woods. Here we have a "remastered" example of a fougère. That's when I realized that my reactions to some current fragrances, classified as modern fougères, are not exaggerated or the result of prejudice. It is purely and truly a question of quality in delivery! Taking the traditional masculine fougère – which has spanned generations with its combo of bergamot, lavender, and oak moss – and transforming it into a contemporary fougère that is pleasant to be worn, which still exudes virility, conveys barbershop style, and carries citrus, lavender, and wood notes, inside a universe so dominated by synthetic spices and a lot of mixed OUD, it is an arduous task and deserves my respect. And Jackie is a beautiful example of it! With Jackie, that citrus acidity of the past, which we felt with the notes of bergamot, lemon, cumin, and petitgrain gives way to a lighter and juicier opening, in which the pineapple makes a stark difference. The body continues the more floral phase of the fragrance, but here it gains delicate touches of jasmine and orange blossom, giving it a unisex and current look. The base was the part that evolved the most: notes of coumarin and oak moss come out and warmer, creamier woods come in, as well as delicious tobacco, an ingredient present in most of the brand's perfumes. It’s no surprise that it’s one of the favorites of Gentleman’s Nod customers since we’re talking about a company that started in the men’s grooming products market. It's a shame that the younger generations, who today dictate a lot about market trends, didn't wear – and don't like – the more classic fragrances, causing the fougère family to suffer an immense decline. Anyway, if you're like me, born before Generation Z, there's a great chance you'll fall in love with a fougère-aromatic perfume all over again. And its name is Jackie!

This is an extremely reminiscent style of green Irish Tweed and cool water type of fragrance. Green Irish Tweed I think focuses a little bit more on the violet leaf aspect while this one I think kind of gets more into that kind of sweet Irish Spring soap style. I have a 1 ml sample but I'll continue to test it out. I have a clone of green Irish Tweed from Mod fragrances in Florida and I got to be honest that the quality is unbelievable. For me it smells like real green Irish Tweed. I appreciate the craftsmanship of Jackie as it's green Irish Tweed in a more affordable package and it's very close to the whole sent profile but for me it's redundant because I've satisfied my need for green Irish Tweed. I'll spend a little bit more time with my sample but just in case anyone needs to know what this smells like this is a almost copy of green Irish Tweed. Not bad it's a proven sent profile that works and there's no shame and attempting to copy it with a little bit of a twist but the similarities are so close that it's really a debate on how much you want to pay for that same profile. Cool water is more synthetic and doesn't last very long. Real green Irish Tweed is incredibly expensive and doesn't last as much as it used to. I satisfied my need for green Irish tweed through a clone house that in my opinion nails it perfectly. No shame to the company or the perfumer I just don't have a need for this in my collection.

For some reason when I tested a single spray of this on skin when I got it I recalled the performance being not so great. So today when I wore it out, I gave myself about 7 sprays thinking I'd help it along a bit in the projection department - whoops. I was in danger of choking myself out while I was running errands, this stuff projects very hard for the first couple of hours of wear. Once it's finished projecting it seems to mostly die off at about the same time, it doesn't linger as a skin scent for too terribly long. This is a great throwback fougere though with a bit of a modern twist - it definitely calls to mind things like Cool Water but with a very detectable fruitiness from the pineapple. Everything I've tried from this brand has been a great value, they're all extremely reasonably priced and all have been high quality. Jackie is excellent, my favorite so far has been Kensei.
