Eau de Grey Flannel

This is one of the rare times that our community gets it right when it comes to the “This perfume reminds me of” section, because the votes are bang on. Strangely enough, this is also one of the rare times that I feel lucky owning a cologne like this, and I can’t fully explain why. I suppose maybe because over here in Canada it seems as though this is the harder bottle to find from the Geoffrey Beene cologne house. Fragrance discounters on our end of the pond don’t seem to really carry this stuff, and the only things I was able to buy was Bowling Greene and the OG Grey Flannel. So I did the unthinkable, I bought the bottle off of Amazon. When I say I feel lucky it’s not just because I feel like it’s hard to find, but because I truly feel happy when wearing this stuff, I can’t quite explain it either. It does smell eerily similar to Channel Platinum Egoiste, but I would say that where it differs is in the opening, for a second when I first sprayed I thought I was going to get another Eternity/Cool Water vibe, because the lavender is so strong, but once that dissipates, there’s no mistaking that this is a beautiful interpretation of Chanel’s version, actually, I would say that this is closer to Franck Oliviers version, but what I really like about this stuff is how different it is in the opening. It’s so different that when I sprayed this stuff on and went to work all I could smell was the lavender, then I went nose blind, but throughout the day I kept getting whiffs of what I thought was someone wearing Egoiste, I asked a woman colleague of mine; Who is wearing a nice smelling cologne? She looked me dead in the eyes and said; You are...Thst smell I kept smelling was in fact coming from me, but it changed incredibly from the first spray. If you’re hesitating buying this juice don’t, Chanel’s bottle of PE is from what I hear a little harder to find these days, and I’m not sure if it’s discontinued or not, but their bottles aren’t cheap whatsoever. If you want a suitable alternative, you can’t go wrong with this stuff. I got the 120ml bottle for $28 bucks, I’m sure I overpaid, but I don’t care, I’ll have this stuff for years. I got a buddy that lives in the US and to say that I’m jealous as to their cologne selections is an understatement. It’s tough to describe this scent too, I guess I would describe it as a fresh spicey aromatic of sorts, with a slight woody musky dry down. My only complaint, if you can even call it a complaint, is that it does sit close to the skin after a couple of hours, so the projection isn’t crazy, but the longevity is 8-10 hours on my skin which is more than acceptable, especially for a 1997 cologne that’s been reformulated several times and now selling in 2021. Solid 9/10 from me.

Dear E.A. Fragrances - PLEASE STOP RUINNING THE LONGEVITY OF MY FAVORITE SCENTS!!! Is it just me, or did this used to be a LOT stronger?! This used to be my favorite when I was a teenager. Best worn on a humid and cool but not cold fall day, especially under a sweatshirt with jeans. For the record, I'm not just saying that for the imagery, I'm literally saying that because the scent changes in beautiful ways when worn under a sweatshirt on your neck/chest and wrists during cool humid weather. This scent is very similar to Nautica Voyage to me, and you'll notice it's ranked #1 in the "People who like this scent also like" section, so if you're a fan of that, which I know many people here are, then you'll absolutely find something to love about this scent. They are similar, yet different enough to justify owning both, but I personally prefer Eau de Grey Flannel, aside from its performance. Even though in most recent bottles this fragrance is quite light, the scent is still truly divine. Apply liberally and enjoy! ;)

Eau de Grey Flannel by Geoffrey Beene has really grown to become one of my favorite after-shower scents. It opens with a fresh, clean burst of citrus and soft greens that feels incredibly refreshing right out of the shower. It’s not loud or attention-seeking — just simple, clean, and calming. As it dries down, the light woods and subtle florals come through, adding a touch of smoothness without losing that fresh vibe. There’s a quiet elegance to it that feels timeless and easy to wear. It may not be the boldest or most complex fragrance out there, but that’s part of why I enjoy it so much. Sometimes you just want something that feels clean, comforting, and effortless. For me, Eau de Grey Flannel really shines in those moments when I want to feel fresh and put-together without making a statement. A true sleeper in my collection, and one I keep coming back to. No it’s nothing like nautica. Whoever said that’s a beef neck

Just came in a few days ago in the stead of the original of which I was terribly shocked and disappointed till I opened it. Talk of walking out of the shower or bath, you got that in this bottle. It is fresh, clean and crisp and sticks to the skin quite well too. A home frag, been dousing myself in it every 3-4hrs for that spotless feel factor & it ain't a screamer. I'll have to get the original though cause I love an old gold monster every now and again. Time to refresh,.,...,. I have come to notice an almost identical resemblance Halston 1-12, another classic if not better due to the longevity and projection over this one but extremely close indeed.

It is hard to explain this cologne when you are still new to the whole fragrance scene like I am. I don't know if this helps any but the color of the liquid in the bottle is sorta like what the cologne smell like. It is not cheap smelling, I don't think it smells like detergent. Beautiful and it smells way above its price range. It smells like a very concentrated floral bouquet but in a non-feminine variant. You will stand apart from others at the party, and depending on the party guest list you might stand above the other colognes!

Okay, stay with me here: This smells exactly like what would happen if there was a shower gel version of Chanel Platinum Egoïste and someone who had never heard of CPE tried to make an EDT version of the shower gel. The result is by no means an accurate interpretation of the original, but is nonetheless delightful. I'm convinced that this is, hands down, the best fresh fragrance you can buy for $11.99 USD. Plus, those cool little grey flannel drawstring bags are so handy! I've owned many bottles and will own many more!!

After testing this one out I'm not carried away. This is not the best fragrance to wear when you want to wear a fragrance, make any sense? This is a cologne to wear just to freshen up like after a shower at night or also a great gym or keep in the car scent.The scent itself smells similar to azzaro's chrome, but a little more soapy in my opinion. A very blue and late 90s scent but I actually like it. You can bathe in this stuff without someone getting irritated.

I picked it up for only 12$! Which is an insane bargain speaking it smells so fresh and clean and very masculine it last 5-6 hours and has insane sillage which absolutely blows my mind when it’s only 12$ this fragrance is a must have it smells so amazing and good longevity and good sillage this beats most fragrances 10x more money than this absolutely get it if you are on a budget it’s 12$ for 120 ml

I can best describe Eau De Grey Flannel as an elevated blue barbershop fougere similar to 'Lustray Blue Spice' minus the powder and 100x the refinement. It's a remarkable scent and if you put it in a Creed bottle it would sell for $500. I highly recommend blind-buying a strategic stockpile of this stuff. If it ever gets discontinued it's going to get traded like gold.

Just got another 120ml bottle of this. A fresh, light and clean perfume. It's quite sweet too. Also has ozonic notes. This new bottle seems to project and last longer than my last one, it has a good silage and moderate longevity. A really pleasant, fresh Summer/Spring fragrance. And.....it's unique!

This is nothing like the classic Grey Flannel but it is a good one! It has character too. This is a woody/fresh fragrance. I can smell a mint note in the opening. It's nice, soft and pleasant with decent sillage and longevity. Drydown is a soft sweet vetiver. It's very pleasant

To me it’s similar to Eau de Passion by Franck Olivier. Simple, low priced fragrance that has decent performance. Very different from the original Grey Flannel. I like it.

Love coming out of the shower and spraying this juice. For the price is an easy blind buy. Smells fresh. Bought this when it first came out on my 3rd bottle.

Very slept-on cheapie. Manages to be one of my favorites in my collection. Shaving cream scent with some complexity and class.

Got this from TJ Maxx for some peanuts plus tax. I blind purchased this due to a reviewer on youtube that I respect. Let me tell you, for the price and the quality of the juice I don't think he hyped it up enough. I think I am going to buy at least another bottle if not two. I wish I could find it in more than a 4.2. What this smells like on intial spray and top is a woodsy lemon. It is a bit metallic but more citrusy for me. At about the 2 or 3rd hour it becomes floral and soapy with hints of wood and just a little bit of citrus there. Some have said it smells like Rocky Mountain deodarant but I think it is more like a really nice male shower gel with hints of citrus in it. I get around 4 hours per 5 sprays so you will have to refresh but for 9.99 plus tax who cares. Especially with a 4.2. You can spray this 3 times a day and still felt that you robbed the store you purchased it from. Because of the price and the scent I can't give this anything less than a 5/5. Sillage is good for the first couple of hours, projection is good during the first couple of hours and the longevity on skin is about 5 hours. But again if we are looking at overall value 9.99 then you are getting a steal. Especially if you compare this to Mugler or Original Vetiver (the scent isn't as classy but just as good to the common nose). Don't try this, don't walk pass this, buy it at first sight. It is a good everyday scent when you just feel like blending in yet you will be noticed and people will say you smell nice. Perfect for the office.

Bought this because I thought I was getting the original Grey Flannel (I was intrigued by the violet and oakmoss)and I was pleasantly surprised by this. The bright aqua liquid was a visual jolt, but I like it; and the fragrance itself is crisp and fresh but not too "crystalline" or sterile. The lavender note is great, herbal but not grassy; the addition of cypress and cedar give a piney, woody note that is fresh but not "pinesol"-like. I do get a light lemon/citrus note that also moves this in a fresh direction without being too zingy. I find sandalwood in any fragrance settles the other notes into my skin and this is no exception; it quickly becomes mellow and personable while still being fresh and herbal. My chemistry doesn't usually work with aquatic fragrances or those that are too bright or too citrusy; I find this to hit a good balance for my skin, fresh and herbal while being mellow and lightly woody. To me, this hits a similar sweet-spot as Avon's Viva by Fergie (a female frag often accused of being too masculine). This style of lavender gives me confidence and cheers me greatly. I suggest this for those who enjoy lavender but don't want something too soapy or too bright. It's a good daily scent for me, and I found the longevity to be really good (10+ hours) and the projection fair-modest--I imagine those next to me could smell it but not in an overwhelming way. The bottle is kind of boring, but as I said that bright blue liquid is fun.

Blind buy, accidental purchase. Didn't take the time to read the label at a discount store and purchased for $12 thinking it was grey flannel which I had never tried, but wanted to for just $12... Finally tried grey flannel this is better. Needless to say I didn't return it after I realized I'd purchased the wrong one (it is summer after all), but I'm not impressed by it. I enjoy the scent which is just aquatic and lavender on me (no wood), but it sits right on top of my skin and lasts for only 2 hours. So while it does smell fresh and clean to me it just isn't something I'd try to wear away from the house. It will get used on the weekend mornings before going out to work in the yard or after a late evening shower before bed where I can enjoy it's clean fresh lavender scent and wear something better for away from home. Like others have said, it's more of an air freshener or body spray than an EDT. Keep that in mind if you decide to purchase; it does not have depth and it does not last or project. So it was an initial dislike for me, but it's far from offensive as I do use it when at home; really it's more of a neutral (which should be an option). Edit - I think A LOT of the negative written reviews are referencing the original Grey Flannel so I'd suggest ignoring the ones that don't describe the fragrance at all.

There will always be a place in my heart for this scent. When I didn’t have much of my own “personal money” I bought this. I was 15 at the time and it was my first entry into fragrances. Only fairly recently did I get back into fragrance but In part I attribute it to this cologne. That said this is an affordable fragrance. Don’t expect an outstanding or natural smelling fragrance. It’s slightly more unique than many other more affordable fragrances on the market though. A green watery fragrance which to me smells like spring in a bottle. The notes are fairly synthetic but harmonize well. I get eucalyptus most which actually smells a little closer to synthetic mint to my nose. Closely following I smell lavender and cypress supporting these notes. All of the notes smell as if you were smelling them after it had just rained. It’s slightly aquatic in that way however a very very green aquatic. This is a very likable scent. For this price you could do much worse!

I'm specifically reviewing the after shave, which I occasionally use as after shave but also transferred into a spray bottle. Because I'm using the after shave, you may not encounter the two minute brevity I encounter, however other reviews seem to indicate that the EDT is also painfully brief. As an after shave, it will sting because of the alcohol content. I find it to be a very pleasing and refreshing spicy aquatic aromatic, in many ways ideal for an abbreviated application like after shave or room freshener. Of course, it's not as distinct as other aromatics, no comparison to legacy aromatic fougeres like Smalto. It has next to nothing in common with Grey Flannel, such that I am confused why they didn't give a wholly different name. The bright teal juice is appealing, but doesn't exactly fit with the scent profile, which is heavily cypress, sage, eucalyptus, rosemary, sandalwood.

It's quite likeable and clean, even though has little to offer other than its stunning, electric blue, neon color - not to everybody's taste, to be sure. It's a fleeting aquatic, very calone-y (as no-fi and Kentington have rightly pointed out) with some interesting things going on in the drydown, but only very close to the skin. If you are looking for a lighter, less potent or more summery version of Grey Flannel... this is definitely NOT it. They have nothing in common, as many have justly written here before me. Edit: To my nose it performs better in a sunny, very hot weather. It is still nothing very special, but gets more interesting: from the beginning you get lavender and cypress alongside the calone (which is still notably present). Its sillage also seems better in the heat, even though it doesnt last beyond one hour, maybe an hour and a half.

This is a relatively simple earthy aquatic. Immediate cypress, lemon, and some sort of salty sweetness in the open. The middle notes hold eucalyptus and to a lesser degree lavender that develops later into some patchouli almost as an early dry down. In the base itself is light but I did find some musk, cedar, and vetiver hunting nose to skin, with a bit of the wateriness of the fragrance remaining. I wanted to test it initially as an afternoon refresher, which I think it is fine for, but I think it's better suited as a gym fragrance as it is more or less Nautica Voyage without apple and moss. If it were to be paired with a heavier citrus oceanic then I think it could turn into something better. It's a low like, but still a like.

Eau de Grey Flannel is a memory flash of my 12 year old self riding my bike along the railroad tracks on the hottest Southern California day of 1962. Where I grew up the streets and railroads were lined with eucalyptus trees, cypress trees were abundant in all the neighborhoods along with cedar, sagebrush and citrus groves. When that hot Santa Anna wind blew in through the Cajon pass of the San Bernardino Mountains it lit the air with all those aromatic woods as though the sky was a burning brazier. I loved those aromas that permeated my long ago summers. What a delight to rediscover them here in Eau de Grey Flannel. It’s a beautiful fragrance that I’m so happy to add to my collection from Geoffrey Beene.

Just picked this up today. This is straight clone of Chanel Platinum Egoiste. If you’re looking for PE on a budget look no further. It’s a classy citrus fresh, soapy green woody barbershop scent. Extremely versatile. Great for casual and formal events. Came out in the 90s but not really dated. It’s definitely more for spring and summer but can be worn in cooler weather. However this one would be phenomenal in the dead heat of summer due to the facts this will never be cloying. I can’t speak on performance yet, but I will when I’ve really experienced it.

I love Grey Flannel, Bowling Green and Eau de Grey Flannel alway have and always will, so I believe this should be in everyone's collection. I do 4-5 sprays and I get a good 8+ hours off it with good projection. I think it can be worn in spring, summer and fall but I wouldn't wear it in winter. On me it wears a little different in the fall but it's a nice different not out of place. I wouldn't suggest a blind buy on this simply because it could be mistaken as similar to Grey Flannel due to the name, but I would recommend it to anyone.

Geoffrey Beene Eau de Grey Flannel... ...is a nice and refreshing fragrance. It has got nothing do do with the original Grey Flannel which was created around a violet accord. Eau de Grey Flannel doesn't last long on me unfortunately which is a shame because it is a nice juice. After an hour it has disappeared. It is a fresh citric/ herbal fragrance on a soft woody base with a touch of sweetness added to it. For me it is an after shower fragrance because it simply doesn't last long enough to take it out.

I think where it could potentially be harshest is like 30 seconds after the opening where you will detect alcohol, but the opening has always been amazing to me for some reason and the dry down holds its weight. Fresh, inoffensive but still somewhat unique from the vegetative notes. Find this at dress for less (are we allowed to name companies on this forum?) for like $11 with the cute little knapsack and be a happy little camper.

I would’ve loved to give this a full review but unfortunately the second I got home it dropped no more than 4 feet and shattered. So beware bc this bottle is cheap as hell. Just giving my floor a sniff I can confirm that it is pretty good. But seriously only get this if you love it because you might have to deal with it for who knows how long as it seeps into the inner workings of your floor boards.

Picked this guy up at Ross for 14 bucks and I don't regret it. I purchased it under the impression I was getting the OG grey flannel and I was obviously disappointed but its honestly not that bad. It isn't too synthetic in terms of cheap fragrances and I appreciate the mandarin in the opening. The one shame is that it lasts 3 hours maximum on my skin but for 16 bucks it great.

And now I'm disappointed. Just like that I sprayed it and "oh hey, is that citrus and wood in the top? That's cool." and by the time I recognized what it was it dissipated. In it's place came a oddly 90's aquatic, soapy kind of smell, like I just sprayed something made by a sporting good company. It's not bad but it went from promising to "meh" in record time.

This is just very average at best. Nothing special. Just your typical smelling sports cologne. There is a note in this that dosent quite jive with me. Its allot better than the original grey flannel which is pretty disgusting. This is not something I would really be interested in buying again when I run out if I run out.

i bought this long before i knew what Chanel Platinum Egoiste was, i put it on my skin, and almost immediately it smells like Platinum Egoiste but slightly less mass appealing. however, the price difference between those two fragrances is absolutely ridiculous, so this is an easy pick up for me.

Scent: Generic but not bad. Good actually. Citrus, Floral, Soapy, Fresh. Longevity: OK for a summer scent.(4-5 hours) Projection: Moderate. Overall a good one for the price. Generic and would not offend anyone. Works wonders in hot climate. You might get some compliments as well. :)

Smells like it belongs in the family with Platinum Egoiste and A&F Fierce. Not as strong as Egoiste and brighter and fresher than Fierce. For $10 at TJ Maxx, that is a pretty good family to be in. This sits pretty close to the skin. It is not a loud scent.

While I personally enjoy this scent and it does have some CPE to it, for me it quickly dies down and loses any sharpness/metallic vibe that makes CPE what it is. For an inexpensive CPE alternative, I find Armaf Legesi to be a better bang for my buck.

Platinum Egoiste but make it a gin & tonic, preferably a double. Very fresh and with the astringent factor turned high. Whereas it's sparkly in Platinum Egoiste, here it leans a touch metallic and gin-like. Best for hot weather, lasts around 6 hrs.

Pleasant surprise, since I heard soo many bad things about the O.G Grey Flannel. For me it smells just like Azzaro Chrome Sport. Not really much performance, but I have the 30ml bottle, and I paid $10 for it. But still a quite good summer frag.

Smells the way that you would think of modern to smell like if you were back in the 90's. It's fresh and a bit predictable, but for the price it's exceptional. It's about as sporty as a fragrance can get. Reminds me of Swiss Army a bit as well.

Sadly this is not on the same level as Bowling Green and Grey Flannel. I love the other two so I bought this one too, but it's just "what ever". Although I'm not upset spending money on it since it was so cheap.

Found this at a Ross and I liked the little bag concept so I blind bought it. Harsh opening at first but eases after the first minute or two Not a bad summer fragrance at all, especially for the price. 8/10

Impression: Fullness of body is light and watery. Dry and astringent nose that warms. Estery and fruitful sweetness maintains character throughout sitting atop resinous wood. Wispy and bright that floats.

Boring fresh laundry smell. Not bad, but utterly boring. No reason to own this unless you want to spray them on old clothes to make then seem like they are fresh out of laundry. Dirt cheap though.

Very fresh shower gel fragrance. Can be very harsh to some but for me I personally am happy that I picked this up. While it is not an everyday wear, this can be very appealing at times.

Also very close to Cuba Blue (not sure about label names, as Parfums Des Champs products are not clearly named). Also very similar to Franck Oliver Eau de Passion.

I like the cypress, mandarin, and anise together. Fresh, but not too simple or boring. Doesn't last a long time and that's OK with me, especially for the price.

I call this my poor man's Green Irish Tweed. I have both and there is a difference but in my opinion, Grey Flannel is a fresh easy spray and go summer juice.

Clean smelling and inoffensive, but pretty plain. Layered with a tiny spritz of Zum's Frankincense-Lavender mist, it becomes very bright and pleasant.

Very dissapointed after owning and using regular Grey Flannel for 30 years I bling bought this.. Not bad but too weak.. I can't smell anything..

It represents four words to me lemony-fresh soapy-clean .....very good considering the price by the way longivity is satisfying to me ;)

Abercombie fierce meets cucumber water , nice scent if only it lasts longer than 20 minutes .
