Oriental Dream

CC always does good and quality things and her perfumes always have that note of green like very fine velvet, a noble nature. I don't see why it's "dirty"? It is a simple amber patchouli, smells of Swiss air at an altitude of over 1500 in late spring when the resins of the trees begin to come to the surface to catch pests and is warmed by the sun, this is exactly the feeling I get from this perfume half an hour after application and I claim to know the feeling, because I have been living in Switzerland for a lifetime. The first part immediately after application it's a bergamot mixed with something effervescent, it does not say here but I think it also has an aldehyde somewhere, that type of ozone aldehyde. Then comes that feeling of mountain air, you feel a wood, you feel the earth from the patchouli, a wet rock, a tree moss and as I said that amber gives me the feeling of coniferous resin. The last base retains its "mountain" ideology but due to that note of white musk combined with vanilla it creates the feeling of the evening in that cold air while the flowers intensify their scent as they close the petals overnight. I understand the dream idea, I don't understand where oriental comes from, I don't think oriental honestly. It is a perfume with which I will definitely make my next trip to the mountains.

Love this! Just bought a second bottle. Good old fashioned Patchouli scent. Like a BIba shop in the 70s. Dirty? Maybe. More like an old cellar in some ways. Or maybe a grassy meadow after rain in the dark. Not for wusses. Could be unisex. I prefer it to Molinard Patchouli intense as that has a more modern sugar candy vibe which I am not fond of and which really works against the old fashioned herbal heaviness of the patch. This one is patch, patch and more patch with a bit of woods. Available at under £20 for 100 ml. Nice quality mix with old fashioned spillage and staying power. Gonna buy a gallon..

This goes on creamy (on my male skin), and as the alcohol is evaporating and the bergamot-blast is subsiding I get what to me is a lovely combination of patchouli and sandalwood. My search for a dirty old patchouli was the start of this latest obsession of mine, collecting perfume - I blame the review sites (and whoever it was that left a trail through my workplace reminiscent of those we used to call 'Grobs' i.e. heavy metal fans). 15 minutes in and this is doing it for me, although it's getting sweeter, which worries me a bit. The vanilla/tonka/amber notes are making their presence felt although the patch is powering through. I haven't had breakfast yet so can't trust the slightly queasy feeling I'm getting! Oh, and as the perfume's just been delivered, I should remember that they take time to settle - I nearly ditched La Belle et l'ocelot because I judged it too soon. Post- bagel, I'm comparing Oriental Dream (OD) with Givency Gentleman (classic barbershop patch, therefore no comparison - more green); a decant of Dior Patchouli Imperial (unfair I know at £200 a bottle), and LM Parfums' Patchouli Boheme. Whereas the Dior is dusty and bitter, and GG green and lively drying to a creamy-sweet patch, the LM is closest to the level of patch in OD to my novice nose. BUT LM is d-r-y like old parchment. OD seems moist, even fruity in comparison - its sweetness envelops that level of patch and keeps holding it. Of course, the others are doubtless better blended - OD is cheap, but doesn't seem overly so to me after 90 mins. Slightly synthetic vibe and I worry that the long-term drydown may become that generic tonka one, but so far the patch remains good, and it seems to be heading toward a nice vanilla/patch base that's not too sweet or cloying for me - just. I'm enjoying it. IMHO not dirty/hippy, unisex leaning feminine due to tonka/amber/vanilla sweetness, so not the Holy Grail for me but I'm more than happy with it. Edit: Sill a reasonable skin-scent after 3 hrs and a sweaty dog-walk.

George Rech Oriental Dream EDP is a oriental woody, patchouli bomb; of which the notes strongly reminds me of Voleur de Roses by L'Artisan Parfumeur for a fraction of the price. It definitely isnt as cloying and thick. But no way, is it a safe blind buy. As it is the type of patchouli that smells like a hippie shop with its medicinal,dank, smoky and herbal products... So its completely unisex and could be good for layering; if you want to add a bit more sweetness with vanilla, amber and tonka..Orgo aromatic with a lavender, maybe?. At any rate, it doesn't stay as big as Voleur which I could not tolerate due to its intensity, but this works for me as it mellowed out considerably. Peace pipe anyone?

This is not a scent for women in my opinion, it is not even unisex. I think this is a masculine fragrance. Now don't get me wrong, I like some fragrances that are billed as unisex or masculine but unfortunately, not this. The patchouli in this is dirty patchouli and for me, overwhelms everything else. There are hints of wood in the drydown with the musk. It could be my chemistry of course. It has decent sillage and longevity and for the fans of bottles, it's gorgeous.

40 years ago, I loved indian cotton boho dresses (I still do) and there was one hippie store where they were sold. A mystical shop, with said long dresses, ethnic jewelry, and heavy incense candles. The dirty patchouli blasted in the face when entering the boutique past the heavy velvet purple drapes beyond the door. This fragrance is a trip down exactly that memory lane, past the velvet drapes, into the hippie lair. If you like your patch heady and dirty: this is the one!

Really gorgeous patchouli. Earthy and realistic, this smells niche to my nose, but take it with a pinch of salt because I've not properly explored patchouli yet. I have, smelled probably a few dozen, niches included, but not by far exhaustively. This goes on super nicely, earthy, subtly sweet, with lots of sandalwood. I'm not getting the typically sharp cedarwood here. Not too overpowering, absolutely unisex.

A blind buy still not sure about it a bit too much patchouli for my liking, better on dry down so I am trying using it for layering and will see what happens, a bit meh....
