Ferre Eau de Parfum

I bought a small vial of Ferre on eBay to try because I love all the notes described on Fragrantica. This is GORGEOUS. I have been looking for an actual CREAMY fragrance, and this is IT. Ferre is everything I've ever hoped for in a parfum... I think I am going to splurge and get the full bottle. This is iris cream in a WARM sense, not the usual coldness one gets from most iris perfumes. This makes me feel feminine and comforted, and everyone remarks at how soft and nice I smell, even strangers! Im already married, but had I found this sooner, Ferre would be my ideal wedding fragrance. I'm thinking this will be my SIGNATURE. You guys! It's nostalgic without being old. Let me explain: I was never able to wear Chanel No.5 because there are too many florals in that one, (especially nasty patchouli -- ugh!). But THIS!! This is creamy in a makeup sort of way, but just a tad bit of sweet, like you're eating a dallop of iris flavored Dolewhip... Without the heavy pineapple vibe, if that makes any sense. The fruit elements in this are not prevelent, whatsoever; they're just there to support the structures of the creaminess so that this beautiful iris can be warm and inviting instead of coming across as cold or austere. This is an innocent, inoffensive, creamy, feminine, not-too-sweet, heavenly perfume. Something a ballerina or a princess might wear.

Now that I've tried both of Pierre Bourdon's iris-focused perfumes, I'm finding that FERRE edp is at once more complicated and casual than the composition he created for Frederic Malle, IRIS POUDRE. That might sound like a contradiction, but it is not. FERRE edp conveys a type of glamour that is somehow informal and seemingly effortless, like a pair of small gold earrings put in as an afterthought while running out the door, or an unstructured, monochrome silk shawl with no tassels thrown over one's shoulders upon learning that it's cold outside and without caring whether it will look good. What makes this perfume less formal than IRIS POUDRE is the fruit, which makes FERRE less rigid and more relaxed. Added to that, IRIS POUDRE includes a hefty dose of aldehydes. But I like each of these two Boudoir creations in its own way. I agree with celina that these are fraternal twins: similar in some ways, yet with distinct personalities and mannerisms. I don't often like complicated fruit compositions, but FERRE offers simplicity through complexity. The fruit notes do not degrade through the development, nor do they overtake the flowers, both of which are tendencies that I find problematic in fruit-rich perfumes. The more I wear FERRE edp, the more I like it, so this will definitely become a full-bottle relationship soon! Merci Pierre!

Stunning creation. A truly modern French perfume. It is so sophisticated, intelligent, and full of character. I have never smelled anything like it. It is fruity in the beginning, a little spicy, and then dries down to this marvelous woody, resinous, fruity, and slightly powdery base. The notes are mixed so well it is truly hard to discern one from another. I absolutely love it! It reminds me of museum parties. Or the prestigious Ivy League club soirées. Well educated, well dressed people, gathering to debate the latest trending topics. The description given by Fragrantica is perfect, I can not add more. It is extremely versatile, but not at all for casual every day wear. I will keep it in my collection as long as I can. As for seasons, this is an all rounder. It smells so expensive, and makes me feel like someone’s very rich highly educated aunt. Unique and stunning

I found a partial tester bottle of this beauty for literally peanuts money, so I decided to quickly check the notes to make sure is not a complete fail. Girls, this is HEAVEN. It it a LOVE, not a even a LIKE. The reviewer below, churinl, made me decide to go for it when she mentioned the opening she associated with certain italian fragrances and I agree with that completely. This is a classy, feminine, elegant, soft flower/ powdery scent. I do not get any masculine vibe to it, however, I see how this could be worn by a more grown up audience (30+), not because is dated or old fashioned, but I see it requiring a certain ''put togetherness'' to it. No melon on me, so it gets a plus point for that! More in the vibe of older Gucci style in my opinion. Absolutely lovely.

Finally after 12 years we meet again with Ferre edp.I missed it ,i missed it a lot!!!!I found one single tester bottle in a hidden perfumerie shop downtown, full of discountinued gems.Now i know where i will spend all my money!Ferre is a love!It is not fruity at all,it is very creamy,powdery little bit dry,little bit aldehydic,it is just a dream!Nothing on the market nowdays is similar to it.Although it is not potent and power bomb fragrance and you would think is not long-lasting,actually is like a cloud around you all day .Very feminine,the way a lady should smell. Very similar to Iris Poudre,but i prefer this one 10000000 times more

This is a beautiful big floral on me. I don't get any fruit at all, which is fine with me. I find lots of similarity with Iris Poudre, but this is less sharp, rounder and more buttery. That being said, I like the IP much more as I love the sharp almost metallic note in it. I have them both and wear this one when I want more of a gentle floral. I don't get tons of iris in Ferre, more of a bouquet of all the flowers. It's a classic, very warm and with a sense of kindness if that makes sense. It's lovely.

This was my first real perfume love. I found an almost empty bottle in my closet and when I sprayed the elixir on my skin, I was craving for more and more and mooore! Two days after, again I am a proud owner of a full big bottle. It's not only an iris, it's a flowery-musky love. By the way, I own Iris poudre too. Yes, somehow they are similar, but at the same time they are completely different. The point is that I love them both. I just can not choose.

I can see just a little similarity with Iris Poudre at the start and as others have said the aldehydes are not present. This has a fruity element. I love it. It's half way between Iris Poudre and Parfum de Therese! It's very well blended. The fruit is low key which I like. A touch of peppery freesia and creaminess from the musk. It is a touch classic but not starchy. It's a new love. My only sadness is it does not have decent longevity on me.

The fragrance of my youth. I never found something more feminine, sensual and elegant in any fragrance I had after. Is everything I want from a fragrance. The melon and pineapple are prominent but combined with freesia, iris and a hint of sandalwood in the end it makes this just perfect for a dating if you want to be remembered. Absolutely not any masculine vibe or unisex here, I have a repulsion for unisex fragrances.

How old is a vintage formula? Mine is from March 22nd, 2006 and for me it's unissex all the way, and very classy and sober, trés chic indeed. I don't get much of the fruits, which I think is a good thing for me, but iris and orris galore. Ferre makes me feel important and distant as important people always seem to be, but with a kind heart right there for someone to discover. Great fragrance. At a bargain price.

Just got a huge 100 ml bottle of this treasure.. I had it before, 30 ml's, used it up and wanted to get a break. It has been over a year without this beauty and I missed it so much that I had to buy it again. It is amazing. Sweet and powdery yet not sugary.. Flowers, milky sweetness.. Classy, aristocratical, grown up, a true lady perfume. Love it! Glad to have this jem in my shrinking perfume collection.

Very similar with Iris Poudre by Frederic Malle. I was wearing Ferre when I was in university and I love it. I have a sample of Iris Poudre and I found them similar. Only Iris Poudre has much more powdery and masculen character in my opion. Ferre more fruity and fresh than Iris Poudre but longevity is very good as well as. I love both them but I prefer Ferre because of the price.

It's tipically a four season parfume but works good in 10-25 degrees. Very feminin, elegant iris scent. I can imagine this with formal clothes, for parties or for evenings. A real classic beauty- IMO better than Iris Poudre what I find too unisex. It has a little fruity vibe (but I can't detect melon or pinapple just fruits). With the musk it is adorable woman parfume. LOVE!!!

By princip I like only heavy ,not light fragrances.,but this is an exception.It is very very very nice and i like it a lot.It reminds me of Prada infusion d`iris.-the same citrusy beggining and powdery dry down,but it is more long lasting than Prada.Very elegant and clean smell.The only one light frag that i like very much and wear with pleasure

Never quite liked the melon in fragrances such as Escape from Calvin Klein, but I love it in this freesia – lily of the valley – jasmin – vanilla combo which later on reveals the wholeness of the iris flower surrounded by sandalwood and amber, almost like a soft chyphre. To me it's stunning.

I really love this perfume ... pretty, clean, soapy and powdery.A wonderful scent .... The main player here is iris, which l adore.. This perfume l want to make it my Signature the problem it's very difficult to find .

this is absolutely gorgeous and I don't need to wear anything else. I have IP too but I like this better; it's less powdery and the florals are just a little bit more prominent.

I am so relieved! This was a blind buy (as is most of my collection) as I have been looking for iris perfumes, and I was worried about the melon and pineapple notes, which I don't really care for. At first, I smell sweet and subtly spicy amber. There is an opening that I often associate with certain Italian perfumes, especially Fendi and Ferre. "Where's the iris?", I asked myself, as it seems some people don't register it very clearly. I didn't have to wait long before a rich orris and iris show up. I would prefer it if this was slightly less sweet, and the sweetness does subside after an hour. I am left with a delicate iris supported by creamy sandalwood. I don't detect much musk, but this is my first wearing - a foolish spring day. I have never tried Iris Poudre, and my favorite iris is still Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile, but this is a nice fragrance that has decent longevity and soft projection. I get lovely whiffs of iris (and a touch of ylang) as I move about. I really like this one!

Ferre is very classy and sheer scent.. It is very sheer beautiful scent with light aldehydes that give misty quality... It is floral perfume that starts from fruits – very suitable and elegant – not just any fruit salad, it feels like fruits make iris feel suitable and light not metallic note .. but then after several minutes it starts to settle for warm, little sweet and rich floral... but so delicate and elegant that you just have transparent aroma around yourself – iris aroma with some other flowers but iris is the main aroma. I just cannot stop sniffing my wrist! I would say it is like... Fidji of XXI century... Distinctive bottle, beautiful shiny perfume... Lots of perfume critics compare it to Iris Poudre by F.Malle, that it is much more wearable and very similar smelling. L.Turin gave 4 starts to Ferre and 3 stars for Iris Poudre stating that Ferre is new Iris Poudre – more polished by Bourdon.

This scent is a sophisticated fruity floral, which is a good thing as it is wearable for any occasion. I agree with Kastehelmi below, that no notes stick out enough for a 'fix', especially of Iris. Somehow the scent is slightly sharper than I wanted as I expected the iris to lend it more powder. It's a very sheer and feminine scent which stays close to the skin. I will wear and keep this 'fume but I would have liked the initial sweetness to stick around longer, and for it to be more 'opaque' as an EDP. Beautiful bottle! The drydown 5 hours later is still noticeable and is really soft and beautiful.

Before my acquaintance with Ferre, I wasn't really interested in florals but this scent made me realize how incredibly beautiful and serene a well-blended floral scent can be. The opening however made me scary, it's a really thick, sirupy fruit composition resembling a traditional winter dessert with stewed fruit. But once the fruit notes are gone, a wonderful, elegant and long-lasting floral remains. My bottle is empty now after having used it at all sorts of occasions, day and night.

This does resemble Iris Poudre to me. I had Iris Poudre, which I liked, but it gave me and my husband a headache. The opening of Ferre is lightly sweet and fruity and lacks the powdery aldehydes (the headacge inducer) of IP. The drydown is extremely similar to the drydown of IP: creamy and lotion-y-like; a luxurious body cream smell. Seems like perfumer Pierre Bourdon combined elements of both his Worth Coutesan and his Iris Poudre as I get definite references to both in Ferre. Nice!

I adore it! Elegant, feminine and easy to wear! Blends very well with my body chemistry. I love most Ferre scents (as well as his clothes too). Suitable for everyday wear and for all ages, IMHO, a 'happy' and uplifting scent. Only disadvantage: it doesn't last very long. Reminds me of Il Bacio by Borgese which I adore too, Il bacio is more sparkling and a little more intensive and more feminine (slightly provocative), this one is fresher. Ah!Italian perfumes!

This is a classic for a reason! Ferre Eau de Parfum is so elegant and sophisticated. The iris really shines through and gives it a powdery, almost makeup-y vibe that I love. It's perfect for special occasions or when you want to feel extra put together.

I bought this perfume as was wanting to try a floral type, but as this was not too floral i did like it. I wouldn't wear it a lot, and haven't bought it again as wasn't one that i would class as a real favorite.

This perfume is very elegant and suitable for day wearing.Better for mature women.

FERRE eau de parfume Gianfranco Ferre for women=INDIVIDUEL Mont Blanc for men

I was so excited to try this as I wanted to compare it against Iris Poudre, also created by Pierre Bourdon. This and IP had been on my wish list of fragrances to try for a long time now. I've since purchased a bottle of IP and thanks to my friend, Churinl, sending me a sample, I'm able to compare this against that. While this is somewhat different than IP, I find the style of Pierre Bourdon very apparent in both fragrances. Here he goes into a different direction of an iris fragrance, being sweeter, richer, and not as airy and light. His use and choice of fruit, an abundance of florals, and warm base notes makes this much more grounded than IP too. Compared to IP it is a little perfumy, which gives it a more vintage feel. Surprising since this came out several years after IP. It also lacks the aldehydes that are in IP, yet I find that fragrance more modern than this. Eventually it becomes a soft, lightly powdery iris perfume though not as light as IP. It's hard to pick out all the fruits and flowers individually and I can only attribute that to Bourdon's masterful blending. But it smells to me like a medley of fruit and flowers as if I am smelling a bowl of fruit next to a vase of flowers conjuring up images of a still life by a Dutch Master. One of the weird things for me was that as it was wearing on at times it made me think of Love Chloe and I don't understand that association as the note profiles are nothing alike. But there is something here that brought that fragrance to mind for me which I found strange. Silage is nice and surrounding, and longevity okay as I could sense it even after many hours of wear. That is the same way IP now wears on me too (after I learned to not go lightly with that scent). Overall, while I'm glad I got to try this, and really enjoyed wearing it, I'm also relieved I don't love it as it is now discontinued, and way overpriced.

I had it and soon I became really disappointed with it. At the time I was wearing, I was riding to work with my neighbor who used to wear Prada - and this poor scent was literally chocked to death by that woman's fragrance, regardless of how much I was pouring on myself. It was rendered IRRELEVANT, COMPLETELY SPEECHLESS, INEXISTENT. I never got any compliments wearing it and I ended up feeling like I was not even wearing anything. "Close to skin" and "discreet" is one thing; but completely lifeless is another. I am a brunette with dry skin so it could be that my body chemistry needs much stronger perfumes. It might work on a Scandinavian nymph or something ethereal like that...I don't know. In time, I discovered that unless I join with serious attention-getters like Samsara, no one will notice a thing. Those with dry/fragrance-eating skin or a heavier body chemistry should stay away from this anorexic scent.

A very elegant, sophisticated lady-like scent (rich lady, not an old lady). Some people think Ferre Edp is a copy to F Malle Iris Poudre, I don't think so at all. Irish Poudre is dark, unsweet, almost male'ish on my skin. Ferre is sparkling, fresh and woman'ish. Not sweet but elegant and the sense of newly showered follows me for many hours. Very nice flowernotes wellblended with Amber, Vanilla and Musk in base. A winner. En väldigt elegant, sofistikerad dam-lik doft (rik dam, inte gammal dam). Några tycker att Ferre EdP liknar F Malle Iris Poudre, jag håller inte med alls. Iris Poudre är mörk,osöt och nästan manlig på min hud. Ferre är flörtig, fräsch och kvinnlig. inga direkt söta doftnoter men elegant och med en känsla av nyduschad som följer mig i många timmar. Otroligt fina blomnoter blandas väl med Amber, Vanilj och Musk i basen. En vinnare!

Dreadful. Possibly the worst blind buy I have ever made. An overwhelmingly synthetic blast of screeching, nondescript floral mush doesn't quite cover the overdose of the harsh methyl ionones that make up the majority of this fragrance. After a terribly long opening, the fragrance begins to settle into a slightly less horrible version of the same thing. Vague fruity notes clash with what is becoming a generic hissing modern floriental. After about an hour, it finally improves to a point where it becomes bearable. It's almost undetectable at this point, but I think I can just barely smell a little bit of iris peeking out of the harsh ambery synthetic iris base. I gave this away less than 20 minutes after I opened the package. I would not recommend this to any fans of iris fragrances.

Ugh, the melon always comes out so aquatic on me, and this is no exception (curse my chemistry!). Other than that unpleasantry, this is a very subtle, subdued, but not particularly refined scent - just a quiet, watered-down, non-desrcript fruity floral (doesn't feel like an EDP at all). It's missing the richness & powder to be refined, and the complexity & originality to be classic. A good office scent that won't offend and will allow you to blend in with the crowd.

A wonderful scent - both for day and night/party. Soft, warm, a bit sexy and very feminine I think. A scent that lasts for many hours.

Not for me! It ended up as an air freshener in the bathroom.

If you buy Ferre to get a duplicate of Iris Poudre, then chances are you ́ll be disappointed. I do not find them to be siblings. Maybe a first-cousin or something. That said, I personally prefer Ferre to Iris Poudre. Iris Poudre is, on my skin anyway, very ladylike but dry, aloof and austere. Ferre is a fine lady too; but more likeable, womanly, and with laughter in her eyes. The fruity notes marries the flowers sooo well, they do wondrous things in this composition. It ́s so versatile too; there is no occasion when I would hesitate to put on Ferre. Casual, business, or romantic; she can handle them all with the greatest of finesse. Om du köper Ferre i tanken att få en billigare variant av Iris Poudre, så är risken att du blir besviken. Jag tycker inte att de har syskontycke. Möjligen mer som kusiner då. Personligen föredrar jag Ferre framför Iris Poudre. På min hud i vart fall känns Iris Poudre som en "fin dam", men också en lite avståndstagande sådan. Känslan blir lite torr och kylig på något sätt. Ferre är också en riktig dam; men hon är bra mycket lättare att tycka om, kvinnligare, och med ett skratt lurandes i ögonvrån. Jag är inte något fan av Floral Fruity genren, och det är verkligen inte något sådant vi pratar om här: hos Ferre gifter frukterna ihop sig på ett fantastiskt sätt med blommorna. Många dofter skulle jag bara kunna tänka mig i vissa särskilda situationer, men Ferre tycker jag passar i alla sammanhang, vare sig till ett par sköna jeans, till arbetet, eller romantiska stunder.

Wow. I got this perfume in the spring and wore it on and off during summer but it is wonderful winter perfume. I applied it today it is 55F and rainy in New York and I cannot even begin to tell you how gorgeous this perfume is. It is bright and sparkling. It has this "wetness" to it which I recently find is very important for sweet and powdery perfumes. It is sweet, very very sweet and powdery. It flows and plays and constantly changes like a play where characters take center stage one after the other but not single one upstages the others. It is modern and classy. It has something about it that reminds me of expensive smell on very chick lady way back in my childhood, may be it is the wetness and powder. It is for women for sure no man can wear this. It is so feminine and gorgeous! Many say it is similar to Iris Podre well, now I have to try that one I simply have to. Ferre EDP has a lot of character. It is very unique and I think it will suit a blond girl/woman. Don't laugh but I found out that some perfumes are better suited for blonds and brunnetes. Look at Tom Ford he makes perfumes for blondes. I am honey blond and it fits perfectly. I am sure all kinds of women can pull this off I am just saying blonds watch out.

I could go on for ages but will make it short two-part review Part I. It is NOT similar with melancholic and refined Iris Poudre, that one of my favourite irises and its is not about an iris as such at all. Part II. Actual description. Loud, tutti-frutti, almost sickly-musky-sweet opening of sugared melon with pineapple, that I want to forget and skip as soon as possible After 45 minutes – there is an orris root, but ROSY-iris-root, as a whole experience – it is messy powdery and loud smell of woman's cosmetic bag, where broken lipsticks mixed with multicoloured eye-and lip-pencils, the powder is over the place as well...Sigh....Thank goodness I bought only mini...No money saving here, I must go for original Iris Poudre after all. It could have been better experience if not those comparisons with Iris Poudre and expectations of iris, while this one is fruity-yellow-floral.

This perfume made me smile when I opened the bottle (I love perfumes that do that). The burst of melon fruits and bergamot in the beginning is a very apt description for this - but it is also quite flowery. I must say that Ferre smells completely different on my skin to on paper (although it might be *my* skin). That fruity phase lasts forever on my skin, whereas on paper it goes straight to the iris. On paper it smells more sophisticated and refined, and on skin it smells like a grown up version of Ralph, by Ralph Lauren. Again, it might be my skin, because the melons kind of mutate into a green apple smell (the predominant note in Ralph). I once loved Ralph, but now it seems too young, and prolonged use brings on nausea - so Ferre might be a good alternative. My skin chemistry may be turning it weird - but I like the different smell on my skin!

I was dismayed by the difference between the creamy cloud of delicious flowers I smell from my miniature of this and the screechy floral mess I smell from the full sized bottle that I purchased based on my enjoyment of the miniature. I went back to confirm that they are the same thinking maybe this big bottle is an edt, as edt tends to be less creamy and delicious and more sharp cold and high pitched. Well, it turns out that the difference is not the concentration but the formulation i.e. this has been reformulated (ruined)!I have confirmed this by finally acquiring some full sized older stock which still smells lovely as did the miniature. The newer juice is also different color- straw vs honey/amber in color.

Smelling Ferré is like visualizing imaginary pale purple ribbons trailing from your wrists as you carry this scent into the world. It finds the common angle of iris, woods, berries, aldehydes, musks. It shows a textbook evolution with the tight yet extravagant range of its topnotes moving to a compressed woody-floral drydown with a surprising resemblance of construction, if not scent, to the drydown of Patou's 1000. Throughout the evolution from top to base, Ferré continues to suggest its purple hue, but because of its tight focus feels like a stripe rather than a large swath of color. For those who love the pretty-boy aspect of Dior Homme, Ferré is one assured step further in that direction.

Sweet and powdery, but sheer-and at least not sharp.It maintains some propriety in the form of delicacy and friendliness-- Very wearable, with indistinct (blended) florals-no lovers of iris, violet, rose, ylang ylang, etc. will get their fix from Ferre EDP, but those who hate any of these notes shouldn't be disturbed, since this doesn't smell like any of the components of the bouquet. The pineapple on top sticks out especially-but the melon cleans it up. This not a typical floral fruity, but it's not so much a floral to my nose either....Not the fragrance of a goddess or royalty or a historical figure...or you get the point. But nice!

Sweet (not cloyingly sweet, but sophisticated), powdery iris. A softspoken fragrance for occasions when you want to smell elegant without making any statement or fuss about it. Perfect feminine office/daytime scent. Very good composition, and high quality raw materials. As my fragrance wardrobe mainly consists of rather dramatic powerhouse perfumes (Coco, Samsara, Kenzo Jungle L'Elephant etc), this was to me a much needed complement for days when discrete is the only possible choice. However, not anonymous or bland - it will convey varm, soft whispers of iris to the persons standing next to you.

To me this is almost a classic, simply because of the powdery scent, yet, unlike any other powdery scent, this is not overpowerly powdery. I couldn't detect any pineapple let alone the melon scent, but what certain is, this fragrance is so subtle, it gives the image of a woman of a higher status, demure, poised, and respected. Many would say this is a cheaper substitute to Frederic Malle Iris Poudre. I don't think so. This really is a great fragrance. Well, no doubt this is cheaper than FMIP, but the smell is not. This smells expensive! I'm looking forward to own my second bottle.

I acquired a vintage bottle. The first hour or so feels a bit muddled but once what I'm guessing is the iris, rice, and sandalwood notes emerge this is really good! The amber softens and sweetens it up a little, but these notes are the stars of the drydown, and they smell natural enough to make it a "keeper" for me. There is a bit of fruitiness that lasts quite a while, and it blends with the florals, but I consider the drydown to be unisex, and the strength and longevity are very good. I haven't tried Iris Poudre so I can't compare it to this one.

This is a really lovely fragrance. As an iris lover, I was hooked from the first sniff. I need a bottle of this! This is what I would call a "proper French perfume." Lovely, soft, floral and very sophistcated. It doesn't need to shout, a whisper of its beauty is enough. Can't believe I didn't know about this one before. Thanks to a wonderful swap partner I have discovered a real gem. And no wonder it smells great since it is by the same nose behind Malle's Iris Poudre, another beauty.

Yikes! Didn't know there was a reformulation (but why be surprised—everything great seems to be getting reworked!); many thanks for the heads-up. I absolutely adore this perfume. and keep a small bottle in my purse for an emergency (sitting next to someone eating raw onions, or very sweaty... my hair and clothes sadly absorb all odors). Nothing compares to Ferre, it's pure magic heaven on me, verging toward the best kind of delirium.

Quite simply one of the most beautiful and elegant perfumes out there. I have owned for many years and I sprayed on last night. I do like to challenge my nose and really try to pull apart the notes so that I say I can read a perfume. In this case I don't care. It is love no matter the potion. It is like an enchanting, sophisticated piece of classical music that just soothes the spirit. A must have for any perfume collector.
