Gianfranco Ferre

For me, very early 90’s. I remember my first trip to Spain in 1991. This was left embedded in my brain. Many years later, after buying a vintage bottle did I know. The memory is always there every time I smell it! Other that happy memories, Ferre is a languid floral, buttery and rich while simultaneously airy. There’s a certain ‘Fidji’ green and floral airiness that screams warm spring days. Bright colors. Carefree. But there’s also a rich ylang/tuberose/gardenia core that screams warm afternoons, strolls and a late dinner at outdoor settings. Ferre is rich and somehow very distinct. I don’t sense a lot of connection to other perfumes of the era because Ferre smells unique. At least to me. It’s bold and animalic, but the floral richness is always in charge. It smells big, elegant and somehow very put together. There’s no big wolf animalicness like in many others (Ysatis I’m looking at you, you hot babe!!) I adore, but I can live with that as a break from heavy civet is sometimes welcome. Ferre screams, to me, of leisurely days, a new decade ahead, and the prospect of infinite happiness. While real life ain’t that, the glory of this perfume emanating from skin for hours feels just like it. A beautiful big floral, bridging the gap between an 80’s bomb and a 90’s lighter floral. But more stuck in the 80’s thankfully!! Huge sillage and longevity. This, from a late 80’s bottle.

28, april 2011 Oh my! I am sooo in love with this one! Remember when i was younger i found it too heavy but now since i learned to appreciate the real masterpieces i am backing up this gem! This should be named "flowerbomb" instead of Viktor&Rolf ́s fragrance!(they are not similar in any way, i just suggest the name for it) Ultimatly sexy and wild thanks to musk and civet this one is a very complex fragrance with ENOURMOUS staying power for an EDT version (the first release was by Diana da Silva parfums, not Ferre parfums). So many flowers in one flacon i guess i have never met before yet. And they are really nice, not a chaotic mix of them! The hyacint with lilly-of-valley in top notes and orchid with rose in middle notes are so classy combined that i just cannot resist it. Fantastic tuberose blends so amazingly here with orchid so it doesn ́t turn into somthing super-sweet and intoxicating. BRAVO!!! Warning! This is a floral bomb for colder days, not recommended to use it in warmer days since you might get a headache because of the intensity of this fabulous fragrance. If someone knows, then it smells quite similar to Jillian Jill "Touche finale" parfum (not in database yet). Definitly a must have!! Such a shame that all recent Ferre fragrances are not reaching this standart level that they used to be.

This has been one of my all-time favorites since the 1980s. Unfortunately, my chemistry has changed with age, and it is one of many fragrances which now induces severe migraines. I can only wear specific brands of vintage pure extrait/parfum, and some with only natural ingredients. PG (propylene glycol) seems to be an offender, as are synthetics. I have been searching for decades for something similar to try; either very vintage extraits or a natural version. I have even considered having something formulated or making it myself, from natural oils. I have several vintage bottles of GF GF for women, which I sometimes dab on fabric, so I can get a whiff, every now and again, of this fabulous fragrance. Gianfranco Ferre Gianfranco Ferre for women and Must de Cartier vintage parfum are two of my top favorites of all-time. I never tire of them.

Hello Fragrantica community. Have been wearing this fragrance for almost all of my adult life. There is nothing like it. Love the complexity and mix of white flowers, citrus, light powder and soft amber. All was subtle. I have been complimented so many times. My previous scent was Albert Nipon... I seem to have a thing for fragrances that disappear. Desperately still looking for what my next scent will be. The « reminds me of fragrances » listed are hard to find. Only tried Amarige from Givenchy : not for me, the scent is nowhere close to Gianfranco Ferre EDT. Still wearing it from the last bottle I found on the web. I bought Hermes-Jardin de Monsieur Li : it is different. Just ok for me. Not a wow. Open to suggestions. P.S. I stay far away from strong - even medium - sweet vanilla notes.

Some perfumes are just: BETTER! -And, so is this! I bought a bottle, 50ml/1.6oz, of this holy water back in 1995, at the perfumeria at Kløverhuset in Bergen, Norway, the bottle was ever so elegant, and the scent so very intoxicating good, l thought l never could get enough of it... And, than this perfume too left Bergen city, and, what a pitty... But now, some days ago, l got my hands on a tiny miniatyr-bottle, and, the right smell is there! So, l use some tiny drops of it early in the mornings, drinking my coffee from beans and having a little bite of chocolate, praising the new day, and praying for Peace on Earth, there is enough room for all of us... and, for moore beautiful perfumes to ENJOY! BETTER FERRE 12/10, and HAPPY 1st of MAY to all of us!!!

Perfect, happy, sunny Easter perfume. I got a sample from a nice ebayer. Looking at the notes, I really shouldn't like this at all.: narcissus, ylang, hyacinth are all featured prominently, and not the slightest bit of oakmoss (but the poor sad cat is there, at least). Somehow all those flowers manage to be just happy. fresh and sunny, not the least bit shrieky. The most beautiful tuberose I've encountered in perfume, not the slightest bit of chewing gum, just rich smoothness. I don't know if it's still produced, but was lucky enough to get a full 100 ml pre-barcode in a swap, smells just as lovely as the sample.

It's been years since I've worn this - but it's on its way to me once again. It's a simple, classy and understated fragrance that is also sensual - though not brazenly so. (I attribute the sensuality to Ms. Ylang Ylang and Madame Jasmine flirting with Sultan Sandalwood). I was surprised to see all of the notes present, because it reads so clearly and purposefully. It's the only fragrance I've owned that has prompted complete strangers to stop me and ask me what I'm wearing. It's hard to find now but when I see it I pounce. Hopefully, I can make it a staple in my perfume pantry.

I got a vintage mini with eBay purchase a while ago and finally tried it. Immediately I fell in love with it! It is so classy, elegant and sophisticated that I could not help myself and bought a full bottle (also vintage, due to reformulation). It is hard to believe that this is inexpensive fragrance because it smells like a very expensive one! I can tell it is floral but unable to pick a single note from it and I love this! Highly recommend to fragranticans who love floral scents!

One of my favorite perfumes and one of the most elegant. To me, the tuberose is very well blended with the rest of the notes. It's sweet, but not in the way the new 'sweet' perfumes smell. I guess the sweetness comes from the flowers as opposed to a fruity sweetness. It's so beautiful from the time it is sprayed ... no harshness about it. Everyday I put on a different perfume for work ... so far, this is the favorite.

After seeing its notes Im really suprised. Lots of white flowers in this one, and normal;ly I really dislike white flowers in a scent coz they always makes me nauseous. But not this perfume I love it very mutch. For me its a sweet floral perfume. Almost sugary strawberry but strawberry isnt listed in its notes. I think its the orchid thats dominant on my skin. actually a white flower scent wich I like

If you love Amarige de Givenchy then you'll love this. My mom wears both and I love them. Theyre both very similar yet different in certain ways. I get gardenia in both but this one dosent have gardenia but amarige does. Its a shame they dont make this anymore. Ill have to have my mom stock up on this.

Well, I'm mad about this perfume, I loved it so very much when I bought it back in the 80ts, and I still can smell the aura of it in my nose, I want it so very much, must grab the first airplane to Indonesia ;)

i wear this from time to time. original, neat, mature but not old. a real perfume. great longevity.

Gianfranco Ferre Wow, this smells like green spicy lilies, I love it! It’s along the lines of perfumes like Parfums Del Rae Amoureuse, which I dearly miss. I smell a touch of very naturalistic greenish but also very creamy-floral gardenia in it too a la Kai. This smells so RICH, not just like money-rich but I mean the actual essence feels and smells rich, like it’s made up the highest quality most concentrated essences, and it is in fact very oily which points to this being actually true. They really don’t (often) make ‘em like this anymore! Gorgeous. If you love fleshy, realistic, spicy in a natural floral way as part of the floral essence-as opposed to a separate distinct added spicy note, verdant lilies, you will LOVE this. I have yet to try Penhaligon’s Lily Spice which is one of my lily unicorns, and I don’t own a bottle of Amoureuse (yet!) which is so far my HG lily scent, I also have Illuminum Trumpet Flower which is, well, a trumpet flower/datura scent, but it also smells similar to a spicy fleshy verdant lily hence worth mentioning here, but anyway all this is to say that Gianfranco Ferre has now joined the ranks of my ultimate realistic lily scents, even though technically according to the notes listed here, this is a tuberose perfume. I get gardenia for sure but not so tuberose, but by far what I smell the most of is LILY. And this one is much more affordable than the others! Lily lovers, you MUST try this! Gardenia lovers too, especially if you gravitate towards lush but greenish gardenias like Kai. If you love Kai this is also very worth trying as a more elegant, sensual, evening version. I love Kai but I love this more.

If I had tested GIANFRANCO FERRE blind, I would have guessed that it came from the house of Caron. In fact, the opening reminds me somewhat of PARFUM SACRE. There is a rich balminess which in the case of GF probably derives from a big dose of benzoin conjoined with the orris root, clove, civet, amber, and musk. I love the texture of this edt, which seems to me closer to pure perfume. It is very dense and waxy. Although the composition seems in some ways classic, it also seems pretty unique. It's definitely not oriental in the currently popular way, with sweet vanilla, patchouli, etc. Nor is this a chypre. I'd categorize GIANFRANCO FERRE as sui generis. Especially striking for me is that this is a rare case of a perfume with a notable clove note which does not ruin the composition for me. Here, somehow clove works with the civet and the moss. Both evernia prunastri and evernia furfuracea are listed among the ingredients. Definitely worth trying by those who appreciate the aesthetic of the perfumes of the house of Caron. I suspect that the reviewers who are describing this creation as a sweet fruity-floral perfume are sniffing another one of the perfumes of this house, which confusingly uses nearly the same name for something like four of their offerings.

My review of this fragrance is after having it for several months. I don't write reviews based on my first impression anymore as sometimes they turn out to be misleading. Who would think that such an innocent looking bottle with an adorable crystal hanging on its neck would contain such lush and complex fragrance. Absolutely gorgeous floral with prominent jasmine, tuberose, coriandre and hiacynth in the foreground.There is something in the composition that makes it very bright and refreshing, almost aldehydic. Very well blended into a smooth composition: nothing is clashing, nothing jumps out at you. I do agree with Sherapop about its Caron-like quality, although it reminds me a lot of Lady Caron but with more massive projection and more freshness rather than creaminess. I don't find it old fashioned at all, as I was not familiar with it in the past. To my nose it is as modern as can be but in a luxurious and sophisticated ladylike way.Very long lasting too. A stunner!

A well-balanced tuberose centered fragrance. I've tried it before and at that time I got the impression of a sheer fragrance. This time however, my impression is much more heavy. It opens up sweet, almost juicy but also balsamic and peppery. The civet is not very pronounced and mingels well with the sweet notes of tuberose, ylang ylang and other non-descriptive flowers. In general it is very well behaved and quite floriental in its style. The drydown is woodier and spicier and much dryer than the opening, but it does also has a soapy smell, perhaps from the coriander? I like it, especially as it doesn't dry down as dirty as many other fragrances from that time. It will not be a purchase though since it is a bit too spicy for my taste. In all it is a very classy fragrance, and as most of them are, also slightly retro smelling.

This is a retro 80's fragrance, it's a well blended floral. A little brash, a little loud, but not nearly as bad as say Giorgio. I wouldn't wear it nowadays, but it was good for its time. It's definitely not a shy scent, but it was never headache-inducing for me, which many heavy scents can do. I find Angel more obnoxious than this.

I love the gardenia part in this perfume. But it's quite soft and weak. A skin scent mostly. Unfortunate because the perfume itself is classy, cosy and warm at least if you like white flowers. Therefore a like not love for the perfume performance.

Mostly getting tuberose out of this one, to be honest. A loud, buttery tuberose. Don't hate it, not crazy about it.

i got a vintage sample in a lot on ebay. i think i am getting mostly tuberose, lily and orange in the beginning? maybe some orchid. it smells like a slightly sweet fruity floral but it's hard to truly pinpoint the notes as they blend together well. i don't seem to get any of the deeper notes or a lot of the florals. maybe mine has dissipated some due to its age (?)

Oh wow! I remember this one quite distinctly! It was the very first perfume i have ever owned! Well actually, when i was about 9 years old, my Mum received a gift-set of miniatures and that was the only one she didn't like... so it was passed down to me... I remember feeling so proud of myself to be owning a "real perfume." I felt so sophisticated whenever i dabbed it on my skin. I really cherished it for quite some time and tried not to use too much of it. I'd imagine affluent women, dressed extravagantly (80s style), while wearing this to exclusive parties, while sipping champagne from crystal glasses. As i recall, at the time, i found this scent quite mysterious and different, and i really did like it. Several years later, while showing it off to one of my friends, it occurred to me that actually, it was too heavy. Maybe the juice got spoiled somehow, but in the end, i found this one to be reeking quite badly and an enormous headache inducer. I'd conclude that to a child who grew up in the 80s, exposed to the crazy, over the top, pompous fashion, this one might have seemed quite wonderful at first. Then i quickly realized this perfume is almost like a bad joke about the glitzy, grandiose 80s fashion/lifestyle that was taken a "tad" too seriously.

I dislike this perfume very much. But my beloved mother in law gave it to me for my 30th birthday and seems to have gone to a lot of trouble to get it for me. I have not worn it. I would really like to get rid of it in a trade or something! This is just not me and I don't like it at all. It feels like my grandma's old lady perfumes that only sat on her dresser, never to be used, except my me when I was playing. Yuck! I guess it's a personal thing. I just don't get it. It gives me a headache. I have not returned it because I didn't think anyone carried it anymore. Does anyone know? It is brand new, even with the little diamond necklace thing.

Had it and hated it. Of course, it was not appropriate for me cause I was only 16 when I got it from a suitor who totally missed a chance with me after that. I bet it was his mother's and he took it as an emergency for my birthday party. Couldn't stand it and even my mother rejected its smell. It ended up in a garaje sell. Sorry. Too old and too strong, those are my memories of it.

Ferre.1.7 edt spray (vintage) Giafranco Ferré became Stylistic Director of Christian Dior in Paris in 1989, when he was chosen by owner Bernard Arnault to replace Marc Bohan. In 1996, it was announced that Ferré would end his engagement with Dior with the Spring 1997 collection for the label After his success at Dior, Ferre created his own brand. The perfume was an opulant stunner much in the spirit of COCO but more floral. I remember as a young 12 year old over at a friends house I saw her mothers Ferre bottle on her desk. I took a whiff and it was one of the most beautiful thing I had ever smelled. A more floral Opium or COCO. The hallway in the house were pictures of her mom on foreign magazine covers and italian Vogue and runway shots of a very thin blonde woman. She worked for Ferre as a model. Beautiful woman and her house was stunning -dripping in waterford crystal, nagel portraits and swarovski animals. To a 12 year old, very chic. Ferre EDT opens up very spicy (coriander) bergamot, light ylang and hyacinth. The hyacinth doesnt have a bitter edge in it like it can in other fragrances. The tuberose and neroli is tucked under neath it so they dont have a huge presence but well blended. In the heart the honeysuckle and orange come together to make a sweet orange/clemintine smell while the orris and the carnation gives it some oriental spice. The jonquil and rose add richness and interest. There is a lot going on in this fragrance like most 80s fragrances, but this is very smooth, understated and classy. The drydown of resins and woods with a touch of civet to set off the florals bring this oriental to the ground. Its not a dated big 80s scent and well worth checking out for a classy, more floral COCO type of oriental. Just beautiful.

I just scored a 1.7 oz EDT of this classic charmer. I purchased a mini bottle on a friend's recommendation a while back and loved it. I am so happy that the full bottle I bought is true to the scent and not spoiled. One thing I love about it is that it is distinctive and subtly powerful without being at all irritating right after the initial application. (This is unfortunately not true of many other discontinued scents from the 80s.) It is sweet without being cloying, there is a depth to it that grounds the sweetness of the varied white floral bouquet. Classy, not brassy. And this is not some old favorite of mine; I never had experienced this scent before trying the mini, so I think I can call myself an objective critic. It is opposite to the current candy-sweet perfume de jour celebrity type scents, and is not overly feminine. I am very happy to have found this one.

May 20, 2017 I just purchased it today from an old perfume store for a friend who also love to collect fragrances. Unfortunetly the store only have 1, if only they have more, I would also love to have 1. Indonesia really is a place where you should go for old time (hidden gem) fragrances, I bought this for only around USD 10. For an old school fragrance lover, I really looove the scent of the white floral in it, the scent that cannot be found in nowadays white floral scent fragrances. It does have kinda old school nuance, it have the softness of the white floral but it is intense. so it can be good and calmimg like a spa scent, it also can be bad if you spray it too much and smells like white florals in the funerals. A really well crafted white floral scent. I can smell the jasmine right away, followed by tuberose all other good fresh floral scent. Just lovely

Gianfranco Ferre EDT is a soft oriental floral, really smooth and delicately lingering close to my skin. It is pretty feminine, neither too obvious nor overbearing, though. In fact I find it a bit similar to Gloria Vanderbilt because of the distinct tuberose, ylang-ylang, carnation and rose flowery composition grounded on smooth amber and musk. GF resembles GV but it is less powerful, more refined and seems better blended. GF exudes the 1980s atmosphere and for sentimal reasons it draws me in a lot. Recommended use for office in cooler seasons, but unfortunately it does not last long enough for the whole day on me. Apply sparingly as it is indeed strong on the floral side and although it should not be obnoxious to others, too many sprays may induce some dizziness or a light headache.

I was reading reviews and found this perfume after going down the rabbit hole. I remember everyone used that expression when I first joined in 2018. Anyway I was able to snag a vintage one with the dark juice and it’s a really well blended floral oriental. Not potent or loud like some from the early 80’s. I guess it’s a fall fragrance and will wait until the weather chills down here in FLA to wear it. I bought the spray and the mini dabber and they smell the same. I read that it is the civet that makes this perfume smooth smelling. Creeps me out somewhat but I’m glad to know that animal cruelty awareness in the beauty industry is no secret anymore. Tom Ford, Jo Malone, Procter & Gamble perfumes, Chanel, etc.

The EDT of this is much cleaner and brighter than I expected. I get a huge floral hit in the opening where the fleshiness of tuberose and ylang are countered by lighter floral notes of daffodil, hyacinth and honeysuckle. On me the heart and base develop subtly where I was hoping for more depth and warmth. I don't get much spice, carnation or civet so it remains very clean and light. All in all not at all dated, just a perfectly refined cream and gold floral for a sunny day.

What to tell about this marvelous fragrance? This represents a must for floral lovers. Cheerful, round, and happy fragrance, with tuberose and daffodil well blended and sweet without having vanilla or gourmand notes in it. I have the real sensation to wear sugared flowers and it reminds me a bit lipstick smell . I have a 30 ml, unfortunately, the only one found in a vintage shop. Never wore anything like that. Enjoy it if you are so lucky to put you hands on a bottle of it.

My ex used to buy this for me from Harrods, the only place we could find it in the UK at the time. It was the first perfume that I ever really wore regularly & it was because he chose for me to wear it. When our relationship ended, I put a full bottle of it in a charity bag with a load of other things, as you do! I wonder who might have ended up with it & if they knew its true value...... I hope they enjoyed it.

I just got it today. Well, despite so many notes declared there,I can recognise some hint to carnation, which is rare and good. As for longevity- I wouldn't say it long lasting, that expected from "old school" type of perfumes, it smell lightly on a skin,however the notes there is quite heavy but lingering fast.It is good for collectables, probably,for some people with superior sence of smell, then me...

To be honest I do not remember this scent, I put it on my list for testing :) but when I look at the composition on pictures above it seems very very rich scent with complex pyramid. I like to smell/test both male and female perfumes its real spiritual feeling and this scent looks like real treasure :)

It's a real treasure.It's a classic feminine blend of perfume.A complex pyramide with unique outcome :) It's a sunny and glorious perfume.It is wearable any time and everywhere.I can try hard to find something against it but i can't.It's perfect!

@Marivictory ... make sure you get vintage, from the 1980s then, because it appears to have been reformulated. I don't see a peach note and it was always ALL about the peach. This was a real stunner in its day. One of my favourite vintages.

Velvety spring floral on me, with sandalwood musk base notes that keep it creamy and smooth. Beautiful sweet and tart tuberose. Very rich and lovely without the sharp mothball notes I usually experience with white flowers. Lovely

I don't know if my bottle has gone bad beyond the realm of all badness or.... Is this supposed to smell like daisies ? From the bottle it's straight up WHISKEY , but on my skin it's all light, soft, subtly earthy daisy chains.

This is the best summer feminine jasmine floral slightly oriental perfum that I can think of. I love this. Want a full bottle of it. Review based on the vintage mini
