Pontaccio 21

the review is for the EDC version, with the clear bottle. pontacco 21 was the address of the gianfranco ferre hq in milan, before it was selled to kiton. so we are talking about something very important for this house. classified as woody-chypre, it is a fresh-woody-flowery fragrance, the notes i detect more are neroli, lime,maybe citron, cardamom,cypress, rose, sage, patchuli...personally i dont find any leather and the final blend is a bit synthetic but in an high quality way, it doesnt smell cheap, absolutely not. it smells super clean with the quality of an old-school parfume. for me it is basically a fresh fragrance and in the most of times fresh-citrusy fragrances are very easygoing but in this case there is the most serious fresh cologne i ever tried. if u wear good life by davidoff u smile, with pontaccio 21 no joke. it is the scent for someone like a lawler, a judge,a director, someone very important with responsabilities. pontaccio 21 gives to me a strange picture: it reminds me an old elegant cinema-theater, freshly cleaned with purple curtains and uncomfortable woody armchairs. i know it may sounds depressive but for me it is a poetic memory. if i have to image someone who can wear this scent i think someone very serious with a severe look, like orson wells or sergio leone. overall, this is an high quality scent but not for everyone, better for mature crowd and for spring and summer. the strong opening can disturb someone but the drydown is very clean a and fresh, with pleasant floral notes.the performance is just good, it starts strong but after 30-40 min became softer. it's quite unique, very hard to compare with something else. it reminds me a little bit versace l'homme, which is more wearable and versatile(i think the versace one is better than p21). it's only my humble opinion so fell free to disagree. grazie per la lettura. scent:8 longevity:7,5 sillage:7,5 versatility:7 bottle:7 uniqueness:8,5 compliment factor-6 my vote:8 in one word: conservative

Pontaccio 21, whose name refers to the location of Gianfranco Ferre's atelier in Milan, is a classy gentleman's fragrance, very aromatic, ias my first impression is of botanical, herbal notes - presumably due to the Rosemary and Sage. An elegant, predominantly aromatic, fragrance unlike anything else I’m familiar with, that smells very “natural”. Niche even. Longevity is good and it projects well for the first couple of hours. Italian perfumery has a long and celebrated history and Pontaccio 21 is a worthy heir to that legacy - a rich blend of florals, aromatics, resin and musk, whose sophistication accentuates the finest aspects of those ingredients. I heartily agree with Apulian that this could be worn by a judge or a lawyer, however I think "refined" is a better descriptor than "conservative" - Old Spice is conservative. Pontaccio 21 is the epitome of understated classy elegance. Stylish and supremely sophisticated - Pontaccio 21 conjures the image of a gentleman of class and distinction who’s not trying to impress because he doesn’t need to. This is what the Ancient Roman concept of “dignitas” smells like. Pontaccio 21 isn’t a hairy-chested desperado pick-up cologne - it doesn’t say “Hey, baby”, it’s infinitely more courteous - the olfactory equivalent of a genteel nod, a bow and a doffing of the hat. As well as dignitas, this suggests serenity, wisdom and mystery. It feels like a potion or an elixir - Gandalf or a Dumbledore would probably wear Pontaccio 21. Wearing Pontaccio today reminds me how much I enjoy it. This is a REALLY classy gentleman's fragrance - could easily be worn by anyone of any age or crotch configuration and works for formal as well as casual occasions. The dry down has a tantalising botanical muskiness.

Revisited Pontaccio 21 this evening for the first time in ages and felt the need to record my impressions because I still find myself bewitched by the sensory delights of this mystical potion. The overture is fresh and even effervescent, lime and mandarin creating a citrus aspect that feels familiar yet novel, like a variation on a traditional theme, with cardamom and an aromatic, somewhat herbal element. From that point onwards the composition evolves in a style reminiscent of classic Italian perfumery with a kaleidoscopic effect: different notes coming to the fore one after another like actors in an ensemble stepping into the spotlight to the rapturous applause of the audience (me). My nose is not adequately attuned, nor is my lexicon adequately sophisticated, to translate what I am experiencing into words but Pontaccio 21 performs a kind of dance of seven veils - citrus, aromatic, a succession of floral notes, then jasmine cedes the limelight to an ever so slightly camphoraceous cypress, before the resinous, musky warmth of the ultimate stage, which stars patchouli, suede and myrrh as well as other things I cannot name. On reflection I find this elixir to be a timeless beauty, a stylish creation that smells refined, elegant and supremely classy. It's a shame that this beauty never received the same attention as its iconic sibling, Gianfranco Ferre for Man.

My first review was on the edc version(clear bottle). The edt is better, less pungent and harsh. Pontaccio 21 edt is a great scent, still serious and conservative( at least in my opinion...) But very rounded and refined with its old-fashioned style. This is not something for the boys, Pontaccio 21 is for mature men with a lot of personality. If you wear it u dont care about compliments. It smells high quality with the blend of Rosemary,lime, cypress, sage and suede. It is also very unique, i cant find a similar fragrance. Pontaccio 21 is not mass appealing but im quite sure that a fragrance lover with the right taste can fall in love with this edt. This scent was made by the Diana de silva group, u cant go wrong! Precedentemente ho recensito la versione edc. La versione edt è migliore, meno pungente e più sofisticata. È un profumo dal sapore retrò e un po' serioso, dallo sguardo severo. Molto raffinato, Pontaccio 21 non è per tutti ma secondo me gli amanti navigati dei profumi apprezzeranno la sua unicità e il blend di alta qualità. I have never smelt Kenzie 10, a lot reviews have it as a dirty oily leathery aroma which might have a sex appeal to it? When I first tried Gianfranco Ferre Pontaccio 2, I thought that this fragrance had a wierd or strange aroma. After the frag settles it starts to take on a warm leathery tone with rose note which helps to gell the notes effectively together. Myrrh also gives it that much need boost which gives this juice depth. Finally rosemary, sage and juniper berries giving it a real verbal appeal. Longevity and Silage are both very high lasting well past 8hrs. Final thoughts, I never thought that I would consider this fragrance. As I said before, purfumery's are currently using more synthetic materials to duplicate the same aroma. I just wish that these fragrance would still be available in the market. If you have this frag you know what I'm talking about. An amazing GEM of a fragrance.

A bitter opening on skin, leathery and tannic: cardamom rules, but suavely. Soon it opens up and flowers, settling down to a dry, elegant and discreet bouquet. It sits down near my skin just like a purring kitten, ready to enthrall in a complicate spell the ones who get too near. I found this perfume by chance, and its bittersweet complexity has caught me in a trap.

I'll try to keep this review short and simple. This is a classic Chypre with modern nuances: it mantains the necessary elements to be considered as one but adding other edges; citruses (orange, lime) all the way trough, a flowery heart relying mostly on rose and white flowers, some green woods (cypress) and a musky-balsamic-patchouli base (and I'd add labdanum and moss also to the mix). The blending is masterfully done; there are no sharp edges, the present bitterness is contrasted with some sweetness from the myrrh and the patchouli, the moss is also in such small proportion so it doesn't come out as 'dated' but mature instead. If you don't get a clear image of this one, think of a 90's edition of VC&A Pour Homme and/or Oscar Pour Lui. Este es un Chypre clásico con matices modernos: mantiene los elementos necesarios para ser considerado como uno de ellos pero añadiendo otros matices; cítricos (naranja, lima) de principio a fin, un corazón floral que se basa principalmente en rosas y flores blancas, algunas maderas verdes (ciprés) y una base almizclada-balsámica-pachulí (y yo añadiría ládano y musgo también al conjunto). La mezcla está magistralmente realizada; no hay bordes filosos, la amargura presente se contrasta con la dulzura de la mirra y el pachulí, el musgo también se encuentra en una proporción tan pequeña que el perfume no aparece como "anticuado" sino como maduro. Si no se tiene una imagen clara de éste líquido, piensen en una edición de los 90 de VC&A Pour Homme y/o Oscar Pour Lui. Seguro una de las mejores compras a ciegas que hice. 10/10

An elegegant scent which, as mentioned below, reminds at first of Aramis, but soon develops into a more citric direction. The similarity to Aramis, however, makes this one more suitable for mature men. Although it's not as heavy as some classic fragrances, it reminds one too much of the old times to be worn by younger gents. Therefore, if you are over 50 and can spot it somewhere, you should give it a try. ***

Extremely underrated. It's impressive the quality and the balance. For aficionados only.

The citrusy element stayed a long time (seems to be mostly orange). Other than that, it's smooth, smells natural, but really doesn't do anything for me. I'd buy it for say $10/50 ml (I only have a sample now) but I don't detect anything about it (dab sampling) that would lead me to think I "need" a bottle. I didn't get much leather, as others did, but for citrus and leather with some smoothness (especially if you think there's a note clash in Aramis), Clint by Avon is quite good and can still be found at reasonable prices (sometimes) on ebay.

You're not buying this for the bottle. It's pretty rough with the sticker over the bottle to emulate a leather look Otherwise, this scent is really great to wear and smell. I enjoy the dry down on this. The lime in the opening is very lovely; reminds me of what Guerlain did with their implementation of Lime in L'eau Boisée Pretty happy with the blind buy. Big ups to Ramsey and Rich Mitch for turning me onto this scent

I love this one, it smells fresh and dry at the same time. The flower and citrus elements are so balanced, it could be a feminine fragrance but there is this powerful duo of coffee and sandalwood that gives it an edgy masculine feel. I don't understand why coffee is not listed on the notes, because it's so real and well done. The same goes for the lime and all the ingredients as well. Get it before it disappears.

Nice scent and similar to aramis by aramis but hard to find it ...
